Hegseth is also going to go down in toxic infamy I suspect. The fact that all the people under you hate you, and they are trained in killing people, is not a good sign for personal longevity.

Ullyot looks like he is going to get over on the Hegseth stuff. He is going to write a regular opinion column, which I am sure Hegseth gave him years worth of stuff, but at some point he is probably going to put those columns into a tell all book. Slant it towards the total loss of national security and even some of those White Nationalists masquerading as Christians, who Trump is counting on to he his militia, might get mad at both of them. However, idiots are unpredictable, even to themselves. Hegseth is very vulnerable. Putin is probably wriggling in delight over each and every vulnerability of this administration.

Now that we’re rimming the bottom of the toilet bowl, I can easily imagine an entire section in bookstores and libraries (taking a great leap here, and assuming both will still exist when this shitstorm finally ends) recounting/reporting on the rest of this septic iceberg. One of the problems with flooding the zone with shit is that it eventually heads the other way and floods your basement.

I once knew a nun who was also a lawyer. Strangely enough, she often represented women in divorce cases. She had one divorce case where her client was also my boss's client in a different matter. The client was killed in an accident that we all suspected was suicide. She pulled out of a parking lot into the path of a semi. At any rate, one time Sister Carol was talking to me and my boss and in reference to this woman's husband, she called him a son of a bitch. Having grown up Catholic (although by then I was out of that religion), I was shocked that a nun would swear like that. I suppose I shouldn't have been, but it was the same kind of shock I felt when I saw my 7th grade geography teacher crying when we got the news of John F. Kennedy's assassination. In my experience, grown ups didn't cry.

I thought of that too...but more seriously, on the occasion of the Pope's passing, I'd like to cite his extraordinary letter (February 10th 2025) to American bishops in reaction to our amateur theologian and supposedly Catholic Vice President's invocation of the concept of "ordo amoris" to defend the adminstration's deportation policies.

"An authentic rule of law is verified precisely in the dignified treatment that all people deserve, especially the poorest and most marginalized. The true common good is promoted when society and government, with creativity and strict respect for the rights of all — as I have affirmed on numerous occasions — welcomes, protects, promotes and integrates the most fragile, unprotected and vulnerable. This does not impede the development of a policy that regulates orderly and legal migration. However, this development cannot come about through the privilege of some and the sacrifice of others. What is built on the basis of force, and not on the truth about the equal dignity of every human being, begins badly and will end badly."

I'm glad JDV got a mouthful from the cardinals when he visited the Vatican yesterday, and that the Pope still had enough breath left in him to put his two cents worth in.

Here's some more of the story according to CNN:

"Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem fell victim to a thief while eating dinner at a downtown Washington, DC, restaurant Sunday night, the secretary confirmed Monday.

"Noem, who was asked about the theft at the White House Easter Egg Roll, acknowledged the incident and said the matter has not been resolved.

"The Secret Service, which provides security for Noem, reviewed security camera footage at the Capital Burger restaurant and saw an unknown white male wearing a medical mask steal her bag and leave the restaurant, a law enforcement source said.

"The thief got away with Noem’s driver’s license, medication, apartment keys, passport, DHS access badge, makeup bag, blank checks, and about $3,000 in cash.

"The Secret Service has launched an investigation to trace any use of Noem’s financial instruments, the person added.

"“Her entire family was in town including her children and grandchildren – she was using the withdrawal to treat her family to dinner, activities, and Easter gifts,” a DHS spokesperson said."

My take? Several things.

It's a VERY good thing that the handbag stealer was white, because if he had been Black, EVERY Black man in the DC area would be stopped, searched, maybe arrested. The whole Black part of town would be turned upside down in the attempt to recover the bag.

Was she high? Who leaves a bag with all this stuff in it unattended?

After all her antics for the last few weeks, she got what she deserved. Sometimes there is a bit of justice in this world. Too bad the Rolex wasn't in the bag too.

I think the surveillance state is all ok with this, and those are the people they are 'keepint on'. But what I wonder about is this deputizing of locals and ICE not being required to get a warrant first before picking people up off the street - it's like a license to profile and there's zero accountability. The border security question is real, they are holding foreign nationals with documentation because they don't like their travel arrangements? That's a problem. I feel like there should be some kind of angry Moms unit on each college campus wearing vests and with bullhorns to yell if they see something going down (like Ozturk), or a group of crossing guards walking people home, something like classes for college kids to know their rights and be able to step in to advocate or witness.
