ok, yesterday's post had an error in the title:

"demented golfer visits disaster area, spews lies and make it all about himself"

it should have been "makes." I didn't catch it when I wrote it, Ms. Spouse didn't catch it when she proofread it, and not one reader pointed it out. seven hours went by before I finally noticed it, and corrected it.

we should all sit in the corner and think about what we did

DonP's avatar

I'll tell you what we did Jeff. We read the title, stumbled for a second over "make", and said to ourselves, "makes. Spellcheck missed that.".

And we didn't mention it because we're tryna be polite as hell with someone we enjoy reading and aren't a bunch of MAGAts or Megyn Kelly's melting down over a simple spelling error. 😊

Kathleen Weber's avatar

Jeff, I don't think anyone here is worrying about the typo. Just so you don't misspell the most important word in your vocabulary (we all know what it is), because then we'll have worry that you're losing it.

Elizabeth's avatar

Has anyone caught the error megan kelly made in her tweet? What a twat.

Marty's avatar

It was a sacrifice.

MzNicky in East Jesus, TN's avatar

I noticed it but I was too polite to point it out.

Okay not really. I’m the most anal-retentive former copyeditor ever, and I didn’t notice it.

Kathleen Weber's avatar

Maybe we were so desperate to get to the content we sped-read the title at a million words per minute.

Tess's avatar

Damn! Are you gonna send me to the principal’s office!!!!!🀣🀣

Cynthia Turner's avatar

I was the principal. No need. Actually, students came for good work! For 30+ years, my mantra was to do the right thing when no one was looking. Donnie must have missed good public school education where lying had consequences!

Thanks for doing such an important job. That takes heart.

I am a professional realtime transcript editor and I miss stuff all the time and later I'm the only one that catches some of them. I'm in the corner a lot thinking about this. I've decided to embrace my imperfections, mainly cause there are so many of them.

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

Same here Mary, with the exception of being a copy editor!!

Hannah's avatar

I was a professional writer. I always read my stuff out loud and still missed mistakes.

Kay-El's avatar

Nah, we all makes mistalks and types here, I’m not gonna criticise.

Marcie's avatar

I worked in printing and publishing for 40 years, mostly for Colleges and Universities. I was called for a late night press check (common in those times). The pressman were laughing while I looked at the huge signature (8 pages/8 pages). They turned it upside down and I was horrified. They said you gonna let that fly? One page had a reversed out block heading that was supposed to say "Catch the Spirit", got all the way to press and it said "Catch the Spurt!" Small Christian college, I pulled it to fix. Nobody proofs headlines and captions well, we had some doozies.

PTW's avatar

I see what you did there...😘

TCinLA's avatar

We were being polite Jeff. Every one of us folks who make our livings putting words in documents has been there and done that. You're lucky you're doing it digitally. A good friend and fellow author came up with The Tillman Rule: "No matter how many times a manuscript is proofread, the worst and most embarrassing typo will only be found the day after publication." When it happens in a book, it's frickin' forever.

Alicia Norman's avatar

Thank you. Most exasperating is when you make an error and someone pipes in, "Aren't you a writer?" "Yes, a writer--not an editor--there's a reason why EDs were created!" LOL

KL Pierce's avatar

All writers on Substack have typos. It must be difficult to edit posts without deleting it all and starting over. I’m not the grammar police though I used to play one in a classroom. πŸ˜‚

If the meaning is clear, I don’t call people out.

KL Pierce's avatar

Here’s another issue with today’s column since you’re asking.

β€œit takes a special kind of self-entitled [what?] to stand up…”

Munchygut's avatar

I didn't read it like it needed a what. The way I read it could be this: It takes a special kind of self-entitled. To stand up in front of an audience...

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

Ah Tom give the guy a break watching Vance’s confabulation offense was rather hard on any cogent person!!

My favorite part was when TimW finally got angry. You could see his face and when steam was up to pressure, he didn’t bother to hide it. This is the guy we love.

arne link's avatar

I was afraid that the palpable anger would rile him up and cause mistakes. It didn't happen. He controlled himself like an adult. I love Tim.

Susan P Thatcher's avatar

Kimmy's avatar

That’s a rather entertaining yet spot on reason for his poise πŸ˜‚

T L Mills's avatar

Actually, I think the anger made him better--he lost his nervousness and started to swing at the (lying) pitches.

Patricia Williamson's avatar

House Inhabitant on Sub stack is saying that American Women fell in love with Vance last night. If you want to fall in love with someone who lies their ass off, you're going to be sorry.

T L Mills's avatar

Oh, GROSS. I can not agree with that. Maybe a few MAGA women did so, but I very much doubt most women will forget that what Vance really wants is a complete and total National abortion ban, a ban on IVF and Vance would "sympathetic" to the idea of a "Menstrual police" monitoring travel for women. He would probably like to see women discouraged from developing a career during their prime child-bearing years; he thinks older women should be nanas and helping take care of the grandkids; Vance clearly wants to see second class citizenship for women--abrogate the right to vote, to hold property, to have credit.

Perhaps there are some women who would like that but I can't think of too many.

Teri's avatar

You can be Antonio Bandaras, drop dead handsome, charming ... but "the truth will out". Vance says "women should stay in violent marriages". That's BEFORE the Reproductive Freedom issue. 1000 percent HARD NO on CouchCovetor.

Vance was well-coached, but his attitude towards women was on display when he couldn't help man-splaining to the female moderators that they were supposed to allow him to lie...and he kept speaking over them, and ignoring them until they cut his mic.

From what I saw on Shitter last night...I wasn't the only female who was screaming at the TV and ready to lunge at JD's smug shit-eating face if only I could reach it!!!

OMG! I forgot about Lesdogggg! I stayed on Xitter with mute button in hand for TV because I was a wreck when I saw that Walz was nervous because he didn’t think he was good at debating! Mr. Slickity-Slick just lied and lied and then lied some more.

I love LJ on TikTok, too. She keeps saying that we gotta take this shit seriously…and I keep thinking…who the fuck isn’t taking this shit seriously! (Since I can’t sleep any more)

Well done that you saw her ranting on Instagram Live! Sorry I missed it!

un poco loco's avatar

oh, I'm so sorry I missed this! she's one of the few I know of who can out-mother-fucker me, but she's also a LOT funnier than I am!

Susan Niemann's avatar

Good point...I've only seen the excerpts as I missed the whole damned thing. (I was with my mentor for dinner and at 81, she always comes first!) But from what I've seen Vance predictably came off a it too slick and I thought, condescending.

Jayme Wolworth's avatar

It was disappointing the when the "plans for the economy" came up that the Trump plan would add $4 trillion more to the debt than the Harris plan - it got brushed away by more posturing and never brought up again. I'm not sure many people caught on in that brief moment and I hope the Harris campaign does more ads about it.

Walz could (should) have pointed out to JD just what the responsibilities of the VP are as well. Marcus - The kid Jacob Soboroff interviewed after was brilliant.

Also, what the fuck? Headaches? "Forts"????? He talks like a 3rd grader. This could make another brilliant campaign ad. JC

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

I believe Tim has heard and seen enough shit being slung, he could have easily thrown truthful light on Vance darkness, however, the give him enough rope plan was enough to suffice Jayne!!

Rick Calegari's avatar

Absolutely no comparison between these two. One is very sincere, honest, compassionate and wants to do what's best for our country. The other like his running mate is a heartless, lying SOB who could give two shits about what's best for America and the free world. We saw the stark contrast last night folks and the demonized sofa molester showed us why he isn't worthy of being a VP let alone a senator.

Deb Martina's avatar

This is totally the guy we love.

MzNicky in East Jesus, TN's avatar

Yes! And showing anger over the constant barrage of insufferable, dangerous lies isn’t a weakness, or loss of emotional control, or whatever. It’s the totally normal response to these constant waves of outrageous, bold-faced lying.

Tess's avatar

β€œCOMMIT A JOURNALISM”…..bingo and about effing time!

Nancy Potter's avatar

I was pleasantly surprised to see the WaPo call it like it was in its headline this morning. I haven't checked to see how the New York Times went about sanewashing the same appearance. But I also saw that Trump has pulled out of a 60 Minutes interview with Scott Pelley. Hmmm.

Charles Austin's avatar

Because his handlers know that he would totally melt down.

Nancy Potter's avatar

OK, after I wrote this, I had to check the NYT to see how they handled it. They don't seem to have mentioned Trump's appearance at all. Kind of like when Fox doesn't post news they know their readers won't like.

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

The ignoble poltroon pulled out of a tough interview… that’s surprising Nancy!!

Hollie Rood's avatar

Yup. That was brilliantπŸ€“!

Ann Anderson's avatar

Vance is a slick motherfuckerβ€”so slick that he slipped and faceplanted in his own crap. First time was letting the moderators (and the audience) know that he expected a pass for lying. Second was his damning non-answer. Vance floated like a butterfly for an hour and and half. Walz was more flat-footed, but he landed a knock-out punch at the end. Major kudos to the Harris campaign for their agility. That's a good 30-second spot done right away.

bruce somers's avatar

Who knew the real villain of Jan 6th was the 'Kamala Censorship'!! What a jackass...

Ann Anderson's avatar

Right? They're even cringeing about that one on Fox.

Kathy H's avatar

Yes. To me, surprisingly slick with his pretending to play nice. What was with him mirroring Walz in using "Look"...IDK, I'm not a pathology expert. But you are exactly right, motherfucker wiped out in his own slimey shit. Intelligence & Integrity for the win!

Teri's avatar

Agree! Yes, Tim was nervous (who wouldn't be?!). But he hit almost every single Kamala policy position at least once! And the kill shot re "2020 election" -- sweet!

Kay-El's avatar

Justa Dickhead Vance looked pretty snake oily. Not only would I never shake his hand, I wouldn’t buy a used couch from him either.

Susan P Thatcher's avatar

He is a used car salesman trying to pass off a rusty old wreck as new off the line

bruce somers's avatar

I'd like JD to explain to me what the hell is 'A Catholic hospital has freedom of conscious to deny care to women',excuse freakin' me JD?? Oh!! Is that the made up thing where you wave your magic wand and declare 'I'm a Christian' so you can do whatever the fuck you want, including let women bleed to death in the parking lot?? Because women should know about these 'Catholic Hospitals' that will let them die because of THEIR religious beliefs, hopefully they at least have a sign at the entrance saying 'Non-Believers Not Welcome'.

Munchygut's avatar

I don't believe that religious institutions should ever be able to run hospitals. They will always apply their religious convictions over the needs of the patients.

bruce somers's avatar

Yep,that's 'American Taliban' stuff there. I saw a documentary about a Syrian ISIS fighter once,he was wounded,a woman doctor showed up to treat him,he refused to be treated by a woman, her response; 'Then die already' Perfect.

Mary Hall's avatar

Truth. Additionally, I don't think anyone should profit from another's pain and suffering.

Hannah's avatar

Mary, you should be in charge of fixing our healthcare system.

bruce somers's avatar

Seems 'Hypocratic Oath' overrules made-up Bible dogma in some places.

T L Mills's avatar

Jimmy Don V. really does seem to think he has a magic wand that he waves when he "disagrees" with a LEGAL PROCESS, and therefore afterwards, he can declare the results ILLEGAL. Interesting concept of an idea.

MNCathi's avatar

Catholic hospitals won't do vasectomies either, not that those are life saving.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

They can be. For the woman partner in these times.

DR Darke's avatar

Jayme Wolworth's avatar

Kathy H's avatar

How laughable was it that he extended that there was a possibility of regaining trust? Further insult to our intelligence that he can just change his damn lies again & we're going to fall for it. Who & the hell does he think he is? He isn't that damn good looking, he isn't charming, & he sure the hell isn't smart. He's repulsive.

Kay-El's avatar

The chance is diddly/squat

Susan P Thatcher's avatar

That's a sentiment I'm seeing echoed all around.

PTW's avatar

He fooled that pregnant "undecided voter" in the CNN focus group.

Fastball Fredo's avatar

Hi Jeff, viewing the debate last night I came away with the same conclusions as yourself. I’m so very tired of the lies, tired of the bullying, tired of the arrogance, tired of the entitlement of Trump- Vance. As explained in the book Contagion by Bandy Lee, all of us can see that the attributes described above are the rule, rather than exception in the GOP. These folks just don’t care and certainly their cult members do not care as they want a strong man, dictator to tell them what to do… these folks do not embrace Democracy, do not view the federal government as legitimate. My fear today is the same as early January 2021 β€œfight like hell” rhetoric is again upon us with β€œday of violence”… this is not the time to turn away folks, its time to put the pedal to the metal friends…we all know what the other side wants. Best to All.

Stephen Brady's avatar

Actually, they want a strongman dictator to tell β€˜those people’ what to do.

Teri's avatar

Let maga follow turd off the edge of The Grand Canyon like lemmings. The Rapture/no taxes for life world will appear 1/2 way down.

Mingo's avatar

Fredo, just curious how your MAGA golf buddies, especially the retired MD will spin the lies about Chump saving the Affordable Care Act in a bipartisan way. You should ask them how their 401K's are doing currently, because according to JD Werewolf the economy was so great under Chump.

Fastball Fredo's avatar

Good Morning Mingo… as to your questions… the retired Doc says the ACA is the worst scam in health care. You assume that these folks would give credit to the Biden administration for taming inflation, investing in new technologies, stimulating our economy, soft landing after the disastrous Trump years..you would be incorrect. Matter of fact in Phoenix a Taiwan company is building a multi billion dollar chip factory, lots of good paying jobs.. well I was asked why the American taxpayer should subsidize this factory? I countered by stating… why should the American taxpayer subsidize Elon Musk since he claims he’s a multi billionaire.. Shut that shit down..end of discussion with that MAGA.

Mingo's avatar

Oy Vey! It's a good thing the retired doc is retired. He doesn't have much empathy or compassion. Makes me wonder what kind of doc he was when working. I'm a licensed allied health care professional for 40 years and remember the pre-ACA days and comforting patients in the hospital wondering how they would pay for their hospitalization and the medications needed to ensure they stay healthy and avoid re-admittance. Your buddies are truly broken and damaged.

Fastball Fredo's avatar

Mingo, the retired doc practiced in LA for over 40 years as a urologist, a urologist to the porn industry. He was born and raised in NYC and went to Rutgers.. very opinionated to say the least. When discussing CALI, he’s like a bitter divorce husband.. He made his $$$ in CALI and now disses it.. Don’t get him started about Black or Hispanic folks…

Mingo's avatar

The porn industry. I was not expecting that 😳.

Teri's avatar

Aha. That explains his maga support. Does he know P25 is not porn friendly?

Hannah's avatar

I have never bothered to watch her. I assume she's a Fox news person? Don't really care.

Eileen's avatar

What a train wreck. Megan is what we girlfriends would call a bitch.

HI2thDoc's avatar

The idea of the VP not certifying the election results is simple and clear with no option to deviate. Even Dan Quayle understood that and told Pence so.

Teri's avatar

It bothers me that Pence even thought to call Quayle, of all people. IIRC, yesterday's docs show Pence also contacted the highly respected retired. Judge Luttig.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

And everyone knew he was too stupid to be president.

Mark Slattery's avatar

So we should just focus on the future when it comes to Jan 6, but focus on the past regarding Afghanistan, high inflation, etc. Thanks for setting the rules, jd.

Robert Eckert's avatar

The future he was looking forward to was January 2029, when he hopes to be the VP and gets to ignore the fact that he was beaten like a rusty drum and simply declare himself the winner.

Darrell Smith's avatar

Donald Trump has never once sided with America. End of story.

bruce somers's avatar

The idiotic comments about headaches after Iran attacked the US base in 2020 should have been a big story, but even back then, the fucking MSM gave him a pass.

Kimmy's avatar

I think that needs to be more widely used to any military or military adjacent Trump supporters. Everyone has heard the β€œsuckers and losers” comment so that’s starting to lose steam, but TBIs = headaches = lack of care is a big deal.

Mary Virginia Hughes's avatar

One thing that means everything -- 58% of Independents claim Walz won. So we know the two parties are leveled up and nobody new much to get there, but Independents. That is not a draw. Vance is disgusting, always will be. No matter how much he "plays nice," there's something deeply wrong with him. I'd be afraid to be married to that guy. And all the good he did, the ads are already out from the Harris side, he will not say Trump lost in 2020. And it's being mentioned around that Trump is not happy with Vance this morning for, just can't help laughing about this, it looked like Vance was campaigning in 2028, for himself as president.

Vickie Berry's avatar

Bingo! Your comment is right on…he is setting himself up for 2028. Again, only in it for himself.

Good luck with that.

Mary Virginia Hughes's avatar

"Undecided voters"??? They are just not following the news at all. Really, the choices couldn't be more clear. Read a damn newspaper! OK, I was one of those uninformed when I was in my 20s and 30s, but come on! (At least I did vote for Carter!!)

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Agree 100%. Who cares what a panel of attention-seeking "Undecideds" says -- four weeks before the election? Yes, they should be renamed the "Willfully Uninformed." F--k those guys.

bruce somers's avatar

MSNBC had a 'poll' 2 hours after the debate,(of course they did), just a 'poll', didn't say who or where, didn't say how many, but they claimed 'no one has moved' because of the debate, pretty sure they're just making shit up.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

I'm sick of the corporate media staging public reaction to events for effect. Manufacturing "wins" and "loses" on debates, as well as wars and natural disasters.

Jayme Wolworth's avatar

A major television network having to agree not to hold someone accountable for saying something inaccurate during a nationally televised political debate within an election year is a pivot I personally never thought we'd see in my lifetime, but here we are.

"What is this bulls**t?" covers it nicely. I honestly have no idea what the hell is happening here anymore..The media is just off the rails. Good thing I've already sent back my mail in ballot, wherein I voted for Harris/Walz and blue all the way down. Hope most other Americans do the same.
