Will someone PLEASE tell us why a felon is not able to enlist in the military, but a convicted felon with 34 charges, can be commander in chief “over” all the branches of the military??

Expand full comment

That right there is some real mind blowing shit. His felony convictions would preclude him from many positions but if you're once again running for Commander in Thief, what the hell, it's perfectly ok. For a heartless, demented, disrespectful asshole who constantly treats the military like garbage and bitches about paying for a brutally murdered soldier's funeral, one hopes that more top brass like General Kelly will speak out about how dangerous and insane a second term would be.

James Olmsted's avatar

Because there are no laws to prevent a felon from being commander in chief. If there were laws there would likely be no prosecutors to enforce them. If prosecutors sought to enforce them a trial judge would have to rule that the laws should be enforced and specifiy how. If the judge ruled to enforce the laws the ruling would be appealed. And appealed again until it reached the Supreme Court. Today's Supreme Court is a fully owned subsidiary of Donald Trump-MAGA-GOP. The Supreme Court would strike down the ruling of the trial judge. Isn't that the way things have been going since Trump came on the scene? If Democrats are able to take the White House and Congress shouldn't this be one of the first things they fix? And get rid of Merrick Garland while doing so? I would love for any lawyers out there to tell me I am wrong.

Are there ANY laws against having a criminal who has paid their dues, or not, take office? Is this all state by state, no Federal? Does this all come down to the founders not imagining such a negative scenario so they didn’t include it in the constitution? I’m way over the tips of my skis then it comes to details on such things. But I’m gobsmacked that such issues weren’t, nor haven’t, been considered. Founders were creating a government here to free themselves from tyranny there. Merrick Garland will do nothing. He's a right-wing stooge, and Biden was played for a fool and really fucked up appointing him. I just hope that the 11th Circuit slaps her down on her dismissal and boots her off the case at last. This is utterly corrupt and ridiculous.

Expand full comment

She's been slapped down and basically called an idiot by the court above her, who rejected two of her 🐂 appeals. I don't know if that upper court is hearing Jack Smith's appeal of her throwing out the classified docs case over top secret docs at golf-a-lago. I seem to recall (?) legal experts say if the 3rd appeal goes against her, she may also be removed from the case.

Of course, if Trump loses, eliminating any chance of getting rewarded for her loyalty, she may start acting like a real judge.

She's stupid and ignorant, and absolutely incapable of acting like a "real judge". She is grossly unqualified for the bench, including even a municipal court. The sooner she's booted off this case the better.

And I'm freaking tired of hearing & seeing people heap adulations on Elon Musk for founding Tesla. No, you morons. Elon Musk was not the founder of Tesla! Nor did he invent the electric car. That would be the engineers Martin Eberhard & Marc Tarpenning, who founded Tesla in 2003.

After Musk sold PalPay to EBay, he bought lots of Tesla stock, ultimately becoming its largest shareholder. In 2008 he took over as its CEO. End of story.

un poco loco's avatar

Musk did not really buy out Eberhard and Tarpenning -- he got himself embedded in the company by investing in it, then pushed the them out of the company a few years after, in part by coming up with allegations that were probably completely fabricated. Not only did he not found Tesla, he didn't come up with the idea of making electric cars more desirable by also making them luxury/sports cars. Eberhard & Tarpenning were actual tech geniuses; Musk just plays one on Xitter. He did come up with the Cybertruck, though, which should probably tell you all you need to know. Unsafe at any speed.

And since Musk got his hands on the company, he's been driving it into the ground (or maybe just into 18-wheelers the car can't see when it's driving itself.) He fired a bunch of workers (reportedly 10% of them) at random, Idk, maybe 2-3 years ago? and this year he announced a round of actual layoffs -- 10% of the company's workforce. Exactly the kind of stuff he did at Xitter.

Elno likes to play the billionaire tech genius, but he does not appear to be that much of a genius. Part of his reputation, at least early on, was his "genius" in creating a computer game when he was 12 and selling it to a magazine -- except it never actually worked until someone came along recently and rewrote it. (I'm guessing his emerald-mine-owner dad had something to do with its purchase in the first place.)

I think they did do that. Every time the little weasel opens his mouth it’s a brown shit storm everywhere. Maybe not every one of Trump’s acolytes is stupid. Maybe they can actually see that shitstorm phenom and, because he’s not “thicker than mud” Trump, they can tell him what to do—and he’ll do it.

Fuck Politico. Has Peter Thiele taken it over? Lousy media. Politico has sucked for years. ProPublica is the best. The Guardian isn't so bad. But that's it. I'm surprised Russian Times isn't quoted more often. Actually, Ron Johnson is very fond of RT. He's a paid Russian asset. He has to stay informed. 🫡

Finding a trusted news site isn’t easy Walter, especially when 5 corporations own and control everything we read, hear or watch on the TV… I’m amazed that the majority of people get their news from social media sites, namely Facebook! Trusting Zuckerberg to fact check anything is laughable, knowing he owns the largest data-mining site in the world! Personally I read a number of sites daily, once even felt RT was a decent source. Fact requires one hell of a lot of research, I no longer have the time, nor trust. Having worked for a long list of defense contractors for many years, I believe little of what I hear, those days have certainly jaded my belief’s!!

That's the beauty of a movement like MAGA. The leader can be all those things Jeff said, ignorant, blithering stupidity, advancing dementia, malevolent, crooked, predatory, but his follower love these qualities. He can openly admire and emulate Hitler and his zombies either are ignorant of Hitler's evil or they actually embrace it. Damn alarming to have this cancer in America

Doc, I still can’t wrap my old brain around this. How is it possible that so many Americans are so misinformed (rhetorical question)? If Kamala doesn’t win in a landslide, I’ll be shocked.

Think of how many people you know who knew who Eminem was yesterday on stage with Elissa Slotkin, and how few of them knew who she is. Or how many people know who's been on Dancing with the Has-Beens, but can't name their own state's senators. Or who just "know" the Democrats will take their guns away, despite the fact that Democrats have been in power for the past four years, and for 8 years before the horror show that was the felon's regime, and nobody's gun has been seized.

They aren't "misinformed," they're deliberately not-informed. They don't want to think about anything deeply. They haven't got the brain power to understand how much politics affects their lives. If they did, they'd be horrified.

My neighbor and friend has never voted in his life 72 years old and hasn’t a clue of the shit that’s happening all around him ! I’ve asked him many times why so uninterested in who is making the rules that you have to follow in your life! He has never been able to give me a reasonable explanation. At best I get a shrug and A….it doesn’t affect me ! WTF….. is this as prevalent as I suspect it to be ? If so it explains a lot of our present day insanity ! This guy doesn’t give a shit or even know who’s running for the Presidency unless he’s told ! Fucking amazing!

I won’t be shocked or surprised if he wins. I’ll be mad as hell and sad to the bone. There would be no Trump if there were no followers. And to follow him one must be an ignoramus or … and I believe this is the highest majority of his people … RESENTFUL.

That’s the common denominator across all the groups that follow him. Knowledgeable as well as ignorant. Employed or not. Rich as well as poor. Black, all POC and women who should know better. They resent some thing or many things. They believe they are victimized by others. Or are ashamed they didn’t reach some height they thought they could.

He is an idea. An avatar possessing what they perceive as being able to put “the man” in his place. He is perceived as being able to tell everyone other than their ilk to go piss off. And he does that. He delivers.

It’s discouraging that his followers cannot see the damage (constitutionally, politically, intellectually, emotionally, functionally, attitudinally, spiritually) he has done. Or worse, they can’t see his capacity and how that would affect our future if he should get elected.

To date, it appears that at least 47% of our neighbors are not smart enough nor emotionally secure enough to understand. This is what is shocking.

Most of the people who were old enough to remember WWII are mostly dead. That's my parents generation. Boomers don't remember it because they weren't born yet. I notice though, when I'm in Europe, especially Eastern Europe, that the horror stories of the Nazis and Communists are still fresh in their minds. The draft here ended in '73. No one since then has been to war unless they volunteered to enlist. To many, these events are only told in history books. How many Americans have traveled to Europe? We are not a well rounded education wise country. Some people have never been out of their state.

We boomers weren’t born yet, but I was born shortly thereafter in 1948. We were familiar with it all and felt emotionally attached to it because of our parents’ involvement. We grew up with it in school. We had memorials, stories, photos. Deaths. Aftermath trauma. No, we weren’t there, but nor can we cannot be described as “not remembering”. Most of us were very connected to it all, and it added a layer to our lives having to do with respect for it all.
