So are a lot of other people. We need to recognize that we have a LOT of heroes and stop denigrating our own because they're not perfect/doing the impossible. My own congresswoman (Shontel Brown) is kicking ass these days and not only speaking out as strongly as AOC, but working on legislation to push back as well as doing amazing work as far as providing hands-on help to constituents. And sorry to contradict some people, but Hakeem Jeffries is doing a good job, even if he's not fulfilling the fantasies some have of leadership turning over tables and throttling their opponents physically.

I had high hopes for Jeffries, but he basically put the final nail in the coffin this week when he decided to put out a statement praising Eric Adams for his leadership as mayor of NYC, while still refusing to endorse the ACTUAL DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE for mayor, Zohran Mamdani. Instead, he teased that he would endorse someone before the election next month.

Sorry - not sorry - but that is some absolute bullshit. I would maybe still have a modicum of respect left for Jeffries if he hadn’t said anything at all.

Go ahead and endorse sex pest Andrew Cuomo. I don’t fucking care.

Respecfully disagree with Hakeem's leadership, or lack thereof. Leader's lead. Hakeem is metaphorically hiding under his desk. His talking tour is performative nonsense. He had multiple opportunities to give the House Repubs bloody noses and have them not pass some of their BS bills, but he didn't crack the whip on the dem caucus. He should be screaming about the horrendous detrimental effects of GQP legislation FROM THE HOUSE CHAMBER. Not doing spouting policy ideas on the road. Cowardly, like much of the Dem caucus, and I'm not impressed. Hakeem is also clueless about his own district. He doesn't know the difference between Rent Controlled & Rent Stabilized. Someone go kick Hakeem in the ass, wake him up, before he finds himself in a Boxcar headed for Montana.

Expand full comment
Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

You don't understand what his job is or the reality of vote counting in the house, the #1 job of a party leader, not "screaming." Have you even noticed that the Democratic caucus votes in unison and the GOP one doesn't? And how are they "cowardly" by voting in unison against GOP proposals, which unfortunately the GOP has the votes to ram through? I get that we're all frustrated but we are often asking him (and the Democrats in general) to do things he doesn't have the votes to do. We should've turned out last November.

I have to say that I read Project 2025 with my book club so what is happening is laid out there, not every detail but a lot of them, and the jist of what they want to do, which is turn this into a White Supremacist Christian Nationalist theocracy.

Expand full comment

Look up New Apostolitic Reformation (NAR). Heavy ties to Dominionism, The Heritage Foundation. Russell Vought is one of the key architects of P2025. Hegseth is an NAR member as is Vought, Mike Johnson, MTG, Ted Cruz, Linda McMahon and other big names. Take a look at their 7 Mountains Mandate (or 7 Mountains of Culture) and see the inroads they've made. It will keep you up all night.

Expand full comment
Linda Weide's avatar

After hearing Hegseth, who has a 1950s Christian Nationalist mentality around women, we should be calling for the military to boycott their jobs unless Hegseth reinstates the people that have been fired. Or, do they want to quickly hire a million loyalists to protect our country.

Ruth Ben-Ghiat, an important expert on fascism, said that Trump is planning on removing the US from a position of being a global power and making it a regional power, leaving Europe to Putin (who I hope crush him), and Asia to Xi. The three will divide up the Arctic, and I don't know who will divide up Africa. Trump just pulled UA aid out, and Xi has his roads and bridges hooks into African countries, and Russia does too with its military, meanwhile thieving from these countries just like Putin does from his own people.

So they world is supposed to be divided up by 3 thieves. Meanwhile, we are looking at a potential nuclear weapons proliferation. Nukes are the only edge Putin has at this point over Europe, and France has nukes too.

Expand full comment
Eileen's avatar

I agree with a minor difference in the military boycott ask. The generals should demand that Pete Hegseth be removed from office immediately and signal to the Senate that only someone with accomplished military leadership experience can take his place.

Hegseth invited hundreds of powerful thinkers to watch him flail. As a group, the top brass witnessed a moron insult them and the America people. Waste thousands of tax payers' money on a show because he misses his FOX Weekend camera spots.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. I don't know what Hegseth unintentionally put in motion, but he just dug his own grave.

Alot of people, including the influencers said this big generals & admirals meeting was a prelude to some huge military operation. If it was, there should be some sort of mention of the op. Instead, it looked & sounded like Kegseth being Kegseth, a prancing, preening fool propping up his own ego. Donnie wasn't even going to come until some media fool mentioned it to him. Hey! Lamestream Media, don't give Dipshit clues about what's going on. He Doesn't Know! Ask afterwards. Donnie can't plan 24 hours in advance, so he clearly wasn't thinking about a major op. So I'm stepping back the ledge, only one step, but clearly neither the Secretary of War Crimes nor DumbDonnie don't have some massive civilian round up planned, yet.

Anastasia, I hope you do not have something against good looking women. It reminds me of how Blondes could not be taken seriously because they were considered pretty and empty headed.

AOC has been speaking out all along since before she took office. That is why she won. She took on an issue that my senator Dick Durbin would not even though I asked him to which was to start to impeach the SCOTUS members who most warranted it.

It is sexist for you to say that her looks detract from her message, which has been consistent. She went on the road with Bernie, she has a podcast, she has been speaking out since day one and Trump threatened her, and she continued to speak out. I think that deserves admiration, not attacks.

As long as she keeps saying what she says, I don't give a hoot why she gets more "attention" than others. ANY ATTENTION to what is happening in our current political nightmare, is TERRIFIC!

Expand full comment

She does not get outsized attention because she is physically as well as mentally attractive, nor does Bernie for the same reasons, but because they have something to say which has been consistent. She is a Social Democrat and part of the Six pack who have all been courageously speaking out. Why should we not listen to her? She has some understandings of people and politics that we would do well to learn from. People in her community who voted for Trump also voted for her? Why? Because they trust her message, like they trusted his, but he was lying to them and she was not.

I'm the same. His voice drives me crazy but even reading transcripts makes my eyeballs roll back in my head. And then I get beyond furious that the media spent 3 weeks last year acting as if President Biden's non-existent "cognitive decline" (he is slower snd sometimes gropes for words, in part because of his stuttering, but there are few signs of "cognitive decline") was the worst threat to our country but I have seen almost nothing written about how every time Trump opens his mouth a stream of disjointed incoherence pours out.

I'm surprised Kegswith didn't bound out in camo with one of those hunting hats with the earflaps, cradling an AR-15. Cosplaying creep.

The sad thing is that most of the people in that room would still vote for trump if given another chance.

Absolutely. The military and cops aren't known to vote for Dems. And with Fox playing on every military base, what do you expect?

Enlisted military tend to skew Republican, but military officers tend to vote Democrat. It is true that in every military base gym that has TVs, Fox is playing - at least, in my experience.

I don't know why that is permitted. Can't base commanders ban Fox from the lineup? Though I suppose now with the internet they can just watch it on their phones. But still- the fact that taxpayers have to pay for propaganda that is in our worst intersts is just sick.

JFC what a preposterous ass Hegseth is. Strolling up and down the stage and gesturing with his hands like a coked-up Shopping Network shill. Pausing for applause that never comes. Enunciating “F. A. F. O.” like he’s a teenager on TikTok. I almost felt embarrassed for the douchebag.

[OFFTOPIC] MzNicky, do you mind if I ask whereabouts in East Doom-Ass? Just idle curiosity--I myself spent some years there--Bristol, Johnson City, Jonesboro.

That’s the area I’m from (Kingsport). I’ve been in Knoxville for decades. You might appreciate then that this deep in the Bible Belt, esp. up here in eastern Tennessee, there’s at least one church on every street corner. My homegirls and I refer to this whole area as East Jesus. It’s really more of a state of mind. 😇

During the silence at Quantico, the regime equivalent of the first term’s staff grownups appeared, hundreds of them, redolent of real-world expertise. They, and the courts, and us, loosen the grip of MAGA fascism.

Tip of the hat to Judge William G Young, whose scathing appraisal of Metamucilini’s trampling of the constitution gives hope that the judicial system remains a check on this tilted power

Particularly love how Judge Young took the anonymous threat he received and addressed it as a simple request for the real truth! Let's hear it for smart judges!

Guess the brass aren't ready to serve as Frump's junta and generalissimos. Since the Meeting of 800 was a surprise even to Shitler, who crashed it like a wedding reception at Mar-a-Lago, I have to think Pete was priming for Vance, Vought, Thiel, and the rest of the Heritage Foundation traitors in preparation for the succession.
