oh god, 1,992 words — and I didn't even use half the clips I could have

Susan Niemann's avatar

All I can say is thank you for every single word...do we ever need it. 🤦‍♀️

Linda Weide's avatar

Agreed. Also particular thanks for the clip of AOC. She is who we should be listening to, not Hegseth and not Trump.

arne link's avatar

I love AOC. She is real deal.

Joyce's avatar

And--she speaks in coherent sentences! Love it when she and Jasmine Crockett just lay it on the line.

arne link's avatar

They are both female warriors. The military could take a lesson from them.

Linda Weide's avatar

It seems like the military leadership kept their mouths shut and since this was just step one or two of whatever is planned we have to wait and see.

Release the Epstein Files! Apparently Mike Johnson does not want to swear in Adelita Grijalva from Arizona because she can force the Epstein Files to be released. She should be suing so should her state.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/mike-johnson-refuses-swear-dem-194401227.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAALa3XVuBBxeDDAhbtTNQQmHtKv4IPNOTGrIr4AELiWz9mZZKHfr1IRNJDW-_pmJEwf8BjonzHMMbEi-mPPy4MCmqJ0NxCm76hpd5asg9y4AO7ulVpAhPykSEzmfHAd51kwjy3iqL254wlenEBX0zTpe3VLjwFFmJpCpGcrXCE93t

I have been reading that there is behind the scenes pressure on Mike Johnson. We shall see. We should be asking for his removal.

CAM from 🇨🇦's avatar

They’re also really smart. The whole lot of Secretaries as well as the idiot in chief would do well to emulate their thought processes and speaking style.

Fatarae's avatar

I love them both so much!!!

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

So are a lot of other people. We need to recognize that we have a LOT of heroes and stop denigrating our own because they're not perfect/doing the impossible. My own congresswoman (Shontel Brown) is kicking ass these days and not only speaking out as strongly as AOC, but working on legislation to push back as well as doing amazing work as far as providing hands-on help to constituents. And sorry to contradict some people, but Hakeem Jeffries is doing a good job, even if he's not fulfilling the fantasies some have of leadership turning over tables and throttling their opponents physically.

LINDA ADAMS's avatar

And a shoutout to my congressman, Maxwell Frost, who is fighting the good fight. I am thankful for him as a counter to my two useless senators.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Maxwell Frost is excellent, a true fighter. Not as pretty as AOC but just as effective.

arne link's avatar

Even though it's inconvenient, I'm so glad that he and Schumer let the Republicons shut down our government. I was afraid that they would TACO, but they didn't.

2Cats2Furious's avatar

I had high hopes for Jeffries, but he basically put the final nail in the coffin this week when he decided to put out a statement praising Eric Adams for his leadership as mayor of NYC, while still refusing to endorse the ACTUAL DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE for mayor, Zohran Mamdani. Instead, he teased that he would endorse someone before the election next month.

Sorry - not sorry - but that is some absolute bullshit. I would maybe still have a modicum of respect left for Jeffries if he hadn’t said anything at all.

Go ahead and endorse sex pest Andrew Cuomo. I don’t fucking care.

arne link's avatar

That seemed strange to me. Adams is a criminal, right? Why won't the Dems endorse Mamdani? He's obviously going to win. I don't get that, either.

CA Productions/Carol Ann's avatar

A.J. Madison's avatar

Respecfully disagree with Hakeem's leadership, or lack thereof. Leader's lead. Hakeem is metaphorically hiding under his desk. His talking tour is performative nonsense. He had multiple opportunities to give the House Repubs bloody noses and have them not pass some of their BS bills, but he didn't crack the whip on the dem caucus. He should be screaming about the horrendous detrimental effects of GQP legislation FROM THE HOUSE CHAMBER. Not doing spouting policy ideas on the road. Cowardly, like much of the Dem caucus, and I'm not impressed. Hakeem is also clueless about his own district. He doesn't know the difference between Rent Controlled & Rent Stabilized. Someone go kick Hakeem in the ass, wake him up, before he finds himself in a Boxcar headed for Montana.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

You don't understand what his job is or the reality of vote counting in the house, the #1 job of a party leader, not "screaming." Have you even noticed that the Democratic caucus votes in unison and the GOP one doesn't? And how are they "cowardly" by voting in unison against GOP proposals, which unfortunately the GOP has the votes to ram through? I get that we're all frustrated but we are often asking him (and the Democrats in general) to do things he doesn't have the votes to do. We should've turned out last November.

CA Productions/Carol Ann's avatar

Remember his marathon speech....blah, blah, blah. Accomplished nothing.

I completely agree about Congresswoman Brown. She provides invaluable resources for her constituents, and she fights for them, too.

My congressman is Mike Levin. He's young and energetic and stands up for the people against Trump and his mob.

KathyInCali's avatar

I think ppl initially thought she was another Boebert or MTG.. Especially Repubs. Boy were they wrong! It’s apples and oranges all the way. We were very lucky when she came on board! Talk about getting your money’s worth! She’s done/does more than the average representative has done during their entire career.

Leigh Hamilton's avatar

Also to Harris and Clinton. They told us so. Everything they said would happen happened.

It almost makes you think no one listens to women.

Linda Weide's avatar

I have to say that I read Project 2025 with my book club so what is happening is laid out there, not every detail but a lot of them, and the jist of what they want to do, which is turn this into a White Supremacist Christian Nationalist theocracy.

Leigh Hamilton's avatar

Look up New Apostolitic Reformation (NAR). Heavy ties to Dominionism, The Heritage Foundation. Russell Vought is one of the key architects of P2025. Hegseth is an NAR member as is Vought, Mike Johnson, MTG, Ted Cruz, Linda McMahon and other big names. Take a look at their 7 Mountains Mandate (or 7 Mountains of Culture) and see the inroads they've made. It will keep you up all night.

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

Adroitly pointed out Linda, I certainly don’t fit the narrative, of P2025, but white…being a left leaning anarchist, who despises this country’s cruelty, injustice and inhumanity! Stay safe, and away from the insanity that has its jackboot on our throats!

Linda Weide's avatar

After hearing Hegseth, who has a 1950s Christian Nationalist mentality around women, we should be calling for the military to boycott their jobs unless Hegseth reinstates the people that have been fired. Or, do they want to quickly hire a million loyalists to protect our country.

Ruth Ben-Ghiat, an important expert on fascism, said that Trump is planning on removing the US from a position of being a global power and making it a regional power, leaving Europe to Putin (who I hope crush him), and Asia to Xi. The three will divide up the Arctic, and I don't know who will divide up Africa. Trump just pulled UA aid out, and Xi has his roads and bridges hooks into African countries, and Russia does too with its military, meanwhile thieving from these countries just like Putin does from his own people.

So they world is supposed to be divided up by 3 thieves. Meanwhile, we are looking at a potential nuclear weapons proliferation. Nukes are the only edge Putin has at this point over Europe, and France has nukes too.

Eileen's avatar

I agree with a minor difference in the military boycott ask. The generals should demand that Pete Hegseth be removed from office immediately and signal to the Senate that only someone with accomplished military leadership experience can take his place.

Hegseth invited hundreds of powerful thinkers to watch him flail. As a group, the top brass witnessed a moron insult them and the America people. Waste thousands of tax payers' money on a show because he misses his FOX Weekend camera spots.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. I don't know what Hegseth unintentionally put in motion, but he just dug his own grave.

No kings October 18th. Make your sign now.

A.J. Madison's avatar

Alot of people, including the influencers said this big generals & admirals meeting was a prelude to some huge military operation. If it was, there should be some sort of mention of the op. Instead, it looked & sounded like Kegseth being Kegseth, a prancing, preening fool propping up his own ego. Donnie wasn't even going to come until some media fool mentioned it to him. Hey! Lamestream Media, don't give Dipshit clues about what's going on. He Doesn't Know! Ask afterwards. Donnie can't plan 24 hours in advance, so he clearly wasn't thinking about a major op. So I'm stepping back the ledge, only one step, but clearly neither the Secretary of War Crimes nor DumbDonnie don't have some massive civilian round up planned, yet.

Linda Weide's avatar

Yes. I am worried about the rank and file though. It sounds like they are going to hire a bunch of White Supremacist militia types and they have already signaled that they don't need to listen to their bosses. Here is Ruth Ben Ghiat's piece from yesterday.

https://open.substack.com/pub/lucid/p/a-holistic-plan-for-an-authoritarian?r=f0qfn&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false

Sounds like this is a piece but they will keep hammering at it until they have what they want and SCOTUS will let them. Who can stop them?

Linda Weide's avatar

Eileen, here is what Ruth Ben-Ghiat, noted fascism expert has to say about it. She has been predicting things and explaining why and they have been coming to fruition, so I take what she has to say seriously.

https://open.substack.com/pub/lucid/p/a-holistic-plan-for-an-authoritarian?r=f0qfn&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false

CA Productions/Carol Ann's avatar

Ruth Ben-Ghiat is an expert in her field.

Eileen's avatar

Cassandra is rolling her eyes right now.

Leigh Hamilton's avatar

She certainly is. We're all Cassandras in a way. Sorta makes me proud - and angry.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Actually, that part kind of spoiled it for me: AOC saying a bunch of stuff everyone has been saying but she's SOOOO pretty so she matters more.

PlasticFish's avatar

I think this might say more about you than what it says about AOC (or JT, even).

Linda Weide's avatar

Anastasia, I hope you do not have something against good looking women. It reminds me of how Blondes could not be taken seriously because they were considered pretty and empty headed.

AOC has been speaking out all along since before she took office. That is why she won. She took on an issue that my senator Dick Durbin would not even though I asked him to which was to start to impeach the SCOTUS members who most warranted it.

It is sexist for you to say that her looks detract from her message, which has been consistent. She went on the road with Bernie, she has a podcast, she has been speaking out since day one and Trump threatened her, and she continued to speak out. I think that deserves admiration, not attacks.

kdsherpa's avatar

do you mean "people listen more often"?

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Yes but not because she is more compelling or insightful than everyone else. Not that she isn't sometimes compelling and/or insightful, but the outsized attention she gets over other equally insightful/compelling public figures is for other reasons.

kdsherpa's avatar

As long as she keeps saying what she says, I don't give a hoot why she gets more "attention" than others. ANY ATTENTION to what is happening in our current political nightmare, is TERRIFIC!

Linda Weide's avatar

She does not get outsized attention because she is physically as well as mentally attractive, nor does Bernie for the same reasons, but because they have something to say which has been consistent. She is a Social Democrat and part of the Six pack who have all been courageously speaking out. Why should we not listen to her? She has some understandings of people and politics that we would do well to learn from. People in her community who voted for Trump also voted for her? Why? Because they trust her message, like they trusted his, but he was lying to them and she was not.

Joyce's avatar

"Outsized attention"? Where??? And how has it been established that any coverage of her is due simply to her looks? It actually tends to catch my attention when she does get coverage--not because I find her pretty, but because I find that she is often NOT interviewed on the grounds that she is too radical, so it stands out when she is finally given an opportunity.

Linda Weide's avatar

Anastasia, you are picking on the wrong woman. There are plenty in the MAGA party to choose from. How about listening to this bright woman instead. You cannot see her so it should not distract from Ruth Ben-Ghiat, noted fascism expert has to say about it. She has been predicting things and explaining why and they have been coming to fruition, so I take what she has to say seriously.

Dave Drell's avatar

Not one of those military robots can stand up to Hesgeth? Not one?

Joyce's avatar

As I understand it, the active military is not supposed to make political comments in public. Hence the silence in the room.....It's also the reason there was a stir when Demento held the rally for which military attendees were pre-screened, so that only Trumpets would be there and cheer him on.

Doc Blase''s avatar

No active duty are allowed to attend political rallies in uniform. That's the first thing, as it was violated by the enlisted personnel in that one disgraceful Dumpty-dump session.

Secondly, when in uniform, the UCMJ requires neutrality; of course the ranking officers behaved themselves and stayed mostly silent and professional during the whatever-the-fuck-that-was.

PlasticFish's avatar

And get themselves fired for their trouble, right.

A. It's not the number of words, as long as the words serve the purpose. In that respect you're close to fucking perfect.

B. von Schlieffen's maxim (Great accomplishments, little display. More substance than appearance) guided the general staff of one of the greatest armies the world has ever seen, until it was destroyed by a megalomaniac. Our so-called leaders are on track to do likewise by behaving precisely oppositely.

C. When I was in the Service, it was widely known that one could reach the grade of O4 (Major/LCDR) by fogging a mirror, but to make O5 required something more. At the time, one was up for O5 after 6 or 7 years, so it appears that Hogsbreath wasn't able to make the cut. Full disclosure: I got out after one tour as a LTJG. Made LT while on inactive reserve.

Jeff, Golf With MAGAS was very uneventful yesterday, it almost seemed they were attempting to avoid any maga discussion, or Donald discussion however I did bring up the crazy talk in front of our elite military officers, the talk of invading our cities, harassment of our citizens, the stationing of federal troops in our cities, the implied threat to roll up on Black people. I explained you rolling up on any Brown person, now as predicted rolling up on Black peoples, will eventually roll up on the LGBTQ community and more to come… All stayed silent, even a fellow whose daughter married another woman.. These guys just cannot admit they were wrong to back a dictator… Sweet…. Best to All

Fredo, their silence is shame. You're right that they will not admit they made a mistake. Yesterday's dog and pony show at Quantico was a window into the madness of Donnie and Petey that has been ignored by the information bubble they inhabit. As the saying goes, denial is not a river in Egypt.

Here's my question - how many Senators and Congressman got phone calls from generals, admirals, senior noncoms, or just plain military vets who are demanding that they do something about these two fuckwits before they start WWIII?

Melinda Morrell's avatar

I wrote one of my senators about Trump yesterday. Told him this guy is seriously threatening the safety and security of us all and recommended he talk with Speaker Johnson and others to 25th Amendment Trump. Not that it will do any good because he's a Republican sh*tbird, but you got to keep trying. One day, I hope we will get through to these guys that Trump is losing his power and to not be afraid of MAGAs because they are in the minority.

Robert Eckert's avatar

Speaker Johnson and the Congress have no power under the 25th Amendment That is up to Shady Vance and a majority of the Cabinet (yeah, the people who get to vote are Marco Sippycup, Scott Pissant, Pete Kegbreath, Pam Blondi, Doug Hamburgum, Howard Nutlick, Bobby Brainworms, Linda McMoron, Sean Duffer, Crusty Gnome, and a few whose names I don't know). The House could try impeaching again, but we've seen how that goes.

Melinda Morrell's avatar

You are correct! I guess I was thinking about what congressional leadership did by visiting Nixon in the WH to tell him he was going to be impeached and convicted if he didn't resign. Vance is too much of a coward to try to invoke the 25th Amendment. Guess it is up to Dems to take back the House, and possibly the Senate, and rid ourselves of the Orange Scourge. Perhaps Ma Nature will beat them to it.

Doc Blase''s avatar

I'm going to steal "Shady Vance".

On the other hand, there is a part of me that is happy they put the whole thing on display for the world to see. If the meeting had been secret, it could have been spun. How can you spin the president doing 10 minutes on walking down stairs to a room full of Generals?

Maybe this will get through to the people who voted for the price of eggs.

telling them that we should revisit or think about (or something about) "battleships"......

longtimebirdwatcher's avatar

The republicans couldn't save money if you paid them.

James Vander Poel's avatar

You probably noticed that the Congress critters will keep getting paid, even as government employees go on unpaid furlough. What is wrong with this picture.

PEACE, LOVE, RESIST's avatar

That needs to be changed. Congress needs the same healthcare, 401Ks, time off, and lay offs as the government employees they impose their bullshit on. If they had our measly pay and benefits, they’d quit.

longtimebirdwatcher's avatar

Especially 401Ks.

J.R.'s avatar

Yep, I knew that and it needs to change. Particularly since the Repubs in the House never showed up.

PEACE, LOVE, RESIST's avatar

Waste fraud and abuse. Disgusting!

They don’t care how much it costs- why bring that up? They just know the military has deep and deeper pockets

Sharon Senkiew's avatar

I read somewhere that the Pentagon has to use every penny of their budget money or they won’t get the same amount next year. And yesterday was the last day of the fiscal year. That kind of makes sense even though it was stupid.

PlasticFish's avatar

It's similar to budgeting in many other large organisations--use it, or lose it!

My fervent wish is that the generals et al will Just Say No and take a page out of the Praetorian Guard Handbook.

Butch's avatar

I was thinking of the same "malicious compliance" that the troops displayed during Trump's parade - the brass won't openly rebel but they'll slow things down and mess things up.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Not just the brass but the National Guardsmen. Most of the news videos show morbidly obese ICE assholes pursuing and arresting immigrants, not actual soldiers. Even some local police are investigating ICE agents for abuse. I'm mudlarking for shards of hope.

Joyce's avatar

I wonder if Petey Kegseth was, in fact, talking about the portly ICE thugs--since Meal Team 6 shows up in their military cosplay outfits, he may have mistaken them for actual, legal professionals. Although their beating the shit out of crying women is a hint that they are just a pack of thugs.

By the way--why are they wearing camouflage on city streets? Is it to stand out vividly, since they're miles from anything the camo would normally be used for? I suppose it's part of their sick performance: "Look at us! We're pretending to be soldiers! Let's find some children to kick!"

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

They are very, very stupid people. This is what happens when optics overrides intelligence.

arne link's avatar

I loved that. It was a wonderful thing that the marching troops did. It gave me hope.

Charles Austin's avatar

My thoughts exactly!

Nice one, Jeff - I think we all need your particular voice, this particular week. And thank you for including AOC's voice, particularly this:

"Donald Trump is at record levels of unpopularity in his tenure. the Republican house is at record levels of unpopularity. they are underwater across the board and they know it. and that is causing them to double down in public. but it is backfiring."

This is fact, even if it doesn't feel like it. We must remain steady and not surrender in advance.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Lots of alternative news sources are sharing this info, which is why we should be subscribing to them and not to the Washington Post or The NY Times.

Ann Panda's avatar

I kind of wanted to hear him describing Obama using stairs, but I just can't bring myself to listen to his voice. So, thank you for the transliterated version.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

I'm the same. His voice drives me crazy but even reading transcripts makes my eyeballs roll back in my head. And then I get beyond furious that the media spent 3 weeks last year acting as if President Biden's non-existent "cognitive decline" (he is slower snd sometimes gropes for words, in part because of his stuttering, but there are few signs of "cognitive decline") was the worst threat to our country but I have seen almost nothing written about how every time Trump opens his mouth a stream of disjointed incoherence pours out.

Watch Colbert on YouTube play with that one😂

JFC what a preposterous ass Hegseth is. Strolling up and down the stage and gesturing with his hands like a coked-up Shopping Network shill. Pausing for applause that never comes. Enunciating “F. A. F. O.” like he’s a teenager on TikTok. I almost felt embarrassed for the douchebag.

Susan Niemann's avatar

A Shopping Network Shill. Perfect! 👏👏👏👏

Robert Eckert's avatar

He has no sense of embarrassment, so we have to be embarrassed for him.

PlasticFish's avatar

[OFFTOPIC] MzNicky, do you mind if I ask whereabouts in East Doom-Ass? Just idle curiosity--I myself spent some years there--Bristol, Johnson City, Jonesboro.

MzNicky in East Jesus, TN's avatar

That’s the area I’m from (Kingsport). I’ve been in Knoxville for decades. You might appreciate then that this deep in the Bible Belt, esp. up here in eastern Tennessee, there’s at least one church on every street corner. My homegirls and I refer to this whole area as East Jesus. It’s really more of a state of mind. 😇

Christine Zepka's avatar

He is, a jagoff in the truest sense!!

MzNicky in East Jesus, TN's avatar

Sorry, Jeff, but I will always read this description as “drunk-tank clown.”

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

one out of every time times I actually type it as "drunk-tank clown"

Gina's avatar

(maybe that's auto-correct)

Caroline (PDX)'s avatar

I did the same thing. My eye was drawn to the picture of the drunk right underneath!

Veronica Speedwell's avatar

I'm surprised Kegswith didn't bound out in camo with one of those hunting hats with the earflaps, cradling an AR-15. Cosplaying creep.

The sad thing is that most of the people in that room would still vote for trump if given another chance.

Deborah Hunter's avatar

Absolutely. The military and cops aren't known to vote for Dems. And with Fox playing on every military base, what do you expect?

Lisa K. Obrien's avatar

Enlisted military tend to skew Republican, but military officers tend to vote Democrat. It is true that in every military base gym that has TVs, Fox is playing - at least, in my experience.

Veronica Speedwell's avatar

I don't know why that is permitted. Can't base commanders ban Fox from the lineup? Though I suppose now with the internet they can just watch it on their phones. But still- the fact that taxpayers have to pay for propaganda that is in our worst intersts is just sick.

The image of Elmer Fudd went thru my mind as I read your description.

“it all starts with physical fitness and appearance. if the secretary of war can do regular hard PT, so can every member of our joint force. frankly, it’s tiring to look out at combat formations or really any formation and see fat troops."

First, we ALL saw the video, SecDrunk! You can't even do one regulation pull-up, overhand - you know, like the boy soldiers do - without trying to leg swim some momentum to get your weak chin over the bar! Second, as for fatties, have you MET the 'commander-in-chief'? You know, the guy who hasn't seen his own dick in decades except in a mirror?

My absolute favorite part of that WarFighterPallooza™️ was how psyched the audience was to hear it. A feather hitting the floor would have made more noise. The peen-shriveling silence was worth the price of admission.

MzNicky in East Jesus, TN's avatar

I also like the clip of Kegsbreath trying to flip up a skateboard with his foot, like any teenaged skater-boy can do in his sleep, and instead of catching it it smacks him in his nutsack.

Jane in NC's avatar

Welcome to the Resistance, Skateboard!

MzNicky in East Jesus, TN's avatar

😄 I showed this clip to my now-middle-aged son, who was one of those baggy-pantsed skater boys in the 90s, and he laughed himself silly.

Ole Anderson's avatar

That’s because he did it to himself a time or two, without question!

I just snorted, out loud, while taking my daily dose of sanity. aka, vodka!

The pull-up video is comedy gold. Although the skate board flip has its charms.
