I chose not to mention in my post about Donny stopping his speech to aid a cultist in distress, but here's what I think about it: it was fucking STAGED. there's no way the Secret Service would have let Donny wander out of his plexiglass playpen unless they knew in advance it was going to happen

It really began with the Republicans who loathed FDR and the New Deal; it went on to Joe McCarthy, and then segued to Goldwater and Nixon. Reagan was a big leap along the way, and Trump is the inevitable result. Although John Adams took the country down the path with the Alien and Sedition Acts, of course our modern scum all take their inspiration from the Confederacy, the first proto-fascist government in American history.

I have thought this as well. The part of this which is really heinous is that the young man that fired the shots is dead , and that was an AR-15, not the most exact weapon in the world. Would they really do that? The rifle that was used to kill the young man was a sniper rifle, one shot was fired.

If it wasn't for that dead firefighter, the others who were wounded, and the dead kid, I would think that the whole thing was nothing more than stagecraft. The miraculously-fast healing ear, the tiny little wound (have you seen the size of the round fired by an AR-15?).

But 2 people are dead, 3 others were wounded, so it's hard to attribute this to mere sympathy-building stagecraft. Although that Fat Fuck cares nothing for collateral damage when it comes to his own ego.

Nothing he does at his rally besides speak is ever not staged. I will accept the shooting was real. People died and were wounded (although it's interesting how no-one's followed up with them). So, I accept that wasn't staged in total, but I won't accept that all that followed hasn't been completely staged.

Expand full comment
Deborah Hunter's avatar

Totally agree with you. Something about that shooting doesn't add up. Trump spends all his waking time eating, raging and thinking of ways to try and manipulate people. They put ads on Craig's List to get fake supporters at rallies. A crowd size of 100 suddenly is 100,000 people to hear Trump tell it. I know nothing about weapons to discuss what went on regarding the shooting, but I worked for years in the ER and the OR and it's the wound/injury part that just doesn't add up. And the deafening silence about any of it since. You never hear about the wife of the dead man anymore or the people that were wounded. MAGAs drag on a story for 10 years if they can and all of a sudden, crickets about the shooting within days after it happening? Hmmm. Smell a rat here.

Expand full comment
DonP's avatar

THAT'S exactly what bothers me, and not doubt so many others like you as well.

Why is there no followup, why isn't the media talking more about his "miraculous" healing? Why aren't they following up with those who were wounded? Why haven't we even seen a disclaimer that the ER docs who saw him won't discuss it, which is why no-one's gotten their story?

At this point of radio silence, I'm starting to wonder if the guy who died was actually shot, and didn't just conveniently die of a heart attack.

It's as if the shooting has become anecdotal and not a real event.

And I'm with you on the wound. I'm a combat vet and have seen what that size caliber bullet can do, and his utter lack of even a scab is beyond unbelievable.

From the walks-like-a-duck perspective, in a culture driven by screens, we are all fairly sophisticated viewers and know viscerally when something's staged as this appeared to be, in every aspect. Plus he's just not that good an actor.

In moments of more ethical journalism (e.g., Watergate, which should be thrown in WaPo's face at every opportunity), it would have been on a loop for a month, on all "sides," would never really die down, and it would feature centrally in the campaign. A subject about him doesn't die unless he says so.

Expand full comment
bruce somers's avatar

The fact that people really got hurt doesn't work for me that it wasn't staged,it just means Trump is willing to sacrifice anyone necessary for his MAGA cult, and his own lust to regain power at any cost.

Expand full comment
DonP's avatar

I certainly wouldn't argue with that.

What's curious to me is that, when Reagan was shot at there were stories for weeks afterward. And he was actually wounded! Same for Ford.

And there were followup stories on the shooters as well. Hell, there were stories about Hinkley finally being released, yet now, there isn't a single story about the shooter, the investigation, or anything else.

And maybe this is nothing more than the ultra short term attention span of the 24/7 media cycles. But it sure does feel like journalistic malpractice.

Why haven’t they reported any progress reports on the condition of the 2 other people who were shot & seriously injured? If the family refuses to speak to the press, then they could report that, such as “We have inquired about progress of the 2 rally attendees who were injured during the assasination attempt, but the family members declined to speak to us”

Expand full comment
Ethereal fairy Natalie's avatar

Baron is sadly, a white supremist fanboy, of all the worst people like the "Buttsniffer" guy, and Andrew Tate. Unless his mother intervened, and she is pretty horrible too, it was inevitable.

"Who is Ross, other than someone Barron Trump thinks is cool? Well, it’s hard to explain his career trajectory in a way that doesn’t sound completely unhinged, but essentially the 23-year-old rose to fame by playing video games such as NBA 2K on Twitch (he’s since been banned from that platform after consistently allowing hateful unmoderated content in the chat, and now streams on Kick, a less moderated and more rightwing-friendly alternative).

He then launched into a broader content creation strategy that involved him making a bunch of homophobic jokes and trolling celebrities. “A big part of Adin Ross’ whole persona is that he jokes about being gay in front of his celebrity guests and uploads videos of himself being ‘sus’ around them,” a 2021 Complex profile on Ross explains.

Part of Ross’s “sus” schtick involves … wait for it … making a big show of sniffing people’s recently vacated chairs. There are a bunch of videos of him sniffing chairs, but he’s most famous for a video where he gets a good whiff of Andrew Tate’s chair during a livestream after the guy leaves the room. This has resulted in certain people terming Ross the “butt-sniffer”.

Aligning yourself with someone who is famous for sniffing chairs in a sexually suggestive way is an interesting political strategy, especially when your nominee for vice-president is the butt of a number of jokes because of an online rumour about him once having sexual relations with a couch. Still, at least Trump and Vance, both of whom have a habit of putting their futon their mouth, are on the same page sofa.

To be fair, Ross, who has 1.36 million followers on Kick, is known for more than his weird jokes. He’s famous for hosting white supremacists such as Nick Fuentes on his show, for example."

Chris: Spot on. My husband and I have been overwhelmed by the perfect execution ofleadership, inspiration, diversity, and wholehearted joy we have witnessed during this convention. There is an embarrassment of riches with the kind of speakers and leaders the Democratic Party is able to assemble. I am grateful.

But like you, I am furious at the recklessness of CNN and any journalistic outlet, providing normalcy and credibility to the Trump campaign. A psycho is a psycho.

Let me paint a picture: Get any of those journalists alone and say if you had to let a man spend a weekend in a condo with your daughter, would it be Donald Trump or Tim Walz? They would pick Tim Walz every day of the week because he would never harm, offend a woman. They would have an awesome experience and Governor Walz probably teach a social studies class for the heck of it.

Now, of course, neither man would ever be alone for a weekend in a condo with someone’s daughter, but I am trying to demonstrate the visceral fear of and dislike toward Donald Trump. That is a shut this shit down right now reaction. And the reaction is telling. So why can’t you, Tapper, have the guts to call it out on news that this person is dangerous, not normal, and should be held to account every single day. That is why I share your rage.

I actually think most people know it’s a joke or a rumor, I’ve seen it explained as a rumor started by 1 woman posting it on X. Every time Stephen Colbert makes a joke about it, he always follows it by saying “It’s not true, it’s not true”

Hopefully the references to sofas will wear thin in a short time & there will be something real to use to make fun of JD about; such as that pic in the donut shop of his awful looking haircut. IMO that is way funnier.

It was a guy who started the rumor. I love it when we can mock someone for their real behavior—like Kristi Noem shooting her dog. A few days ago I had a long interaction with a young man who posted the rumor as fact, and when I informed him otherwise, he didn't give a damn. He said he was against practical jokes, but he didn't see any harm in making up someone else's sex life.

I am on the warpath against sexual smears. I think it's one of the worst qualities of our human nature that so many of us love to fantasize about what other people are doing behind their closed doors. It's the cheapest kind of propaganda, all almost all of us are so deeply fascinated by sex. In fact, I'm working on the biography of man about whom many sexual smears were written. Since I'm trying to really get to the truth, having to dig through all this title tattle is very depressing.

On July 15, 2024, shortly after Vance was announced as Donald Trump's running mate, a user with the handle @rickrudescalves falsely claimed that Vance's memoir, "Hillbilly Elegy," contained a depiction of Vance having intercourse with a couch¹⁴. After two weeks, the man who originated the couch rumor took it down from his ex account.
