California GOP Rep Doug LaMalfa has died, shrinking the GOP majority in the House — and Donny Fuckbag managed to find a way to make it all about himself.

Jan, my book club was discussing Venezuela tonight and how Malcolm Nance says that Venezuela has not changed at all with this action of removing Maduro. One friend says that she sees Trump as turning Venezuela into a prison state for them to send everyone from immigrants and taking the oil.

The problem I see with that, Linda - is frump has NO CLUE how crude Venezuela's crude oil actually IS. He literally knows nothing about anything, including oil. It is SO crude - according to one of MS-Now's guests yesterday, it's akin to sludge (can't remember the exact word they used) and would take a HUGE amount of money and work to get it up to the 'refined' stage. I think even miller knows it's pretty worthless at this stage so it HAS to be something other than the oil, so your idea of the prison-state (enormous Country) makes far more sense to me.

MTJ will have even more time to give Trump MAGA hell now that she has retired. I read in Realtor.com that she is leading a tax revolt because Trump is not helping us with the taxes we pay and spending lots of money on unnecessary things like attacking Venezuela. My understanding of MAGA 2.0 is that they think Trump is a sell out and weak tea. I guess she is going to exploit that.

Meanwhile Malcolm Nance, US intelligence expert tells us Venezuela has not changed its leadership one IOTA.

https://youtu.be/izt6RvyItL0?si=HMGa4bH5y5CXDQij

Well, he concedes that it is not just 98.8 percent of what it was with Maduro gone. He also says taking out Maduro is not taking over Venezuela. He points out that the people could be arming up right now. I know what he means. I am totally against guns. It is a big reason why I left the US to spend most of my time in living in Germany, but, if Russia decides to attack us, I will be learning how to use a gun and getting one. In fact, we already made a plan to go live with relatives out on the countryside. There we are less likely to be bombed, but more likely to face soldiers. The Russians are big rapists. Men, women, children--they don't care who. You can ask the remaining people of Ukraine who have had Russians come through their villages.

Venezuelans are in shock right now because they were treated to the theater of Maduro's capture with bombings in their cities, while we merely got to see it on our screens. However, if they think they need to arm themselves from occupiers, it is likely they will do it. They may get help in that from Colombia. Cuba I would not trust. It is their leader that taught Maduro to use starvation to gain compliance with people.

Expand full comment
Patricia Grier's avatar

Good for MTG! maybe she'll redeem herself just one small iota....meanwhile it didn't take Malcolm Nance (although his view is appreciated) for some of us to realize that nothing's really changed in Venezuela. Because Maduro's VICE PRESIDENT was inaugurated! that's not a regime change. that's not a return of democracy--which the big fat orange faced man baby never said he was doing. All that is about it "hey, America, tell your oil guys they can come back to Venezuela. We won't arrest them or throw them out this time." That's all that is. Delcy Rodriguez is still the President of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela. That's not necessarily a democratic group.

Trump threw Machado under the bus because we all know how much he hates women and he isn't going to put a woman in power ANYWHERE in any part of the world if he can help it. His hatred for women is astounding. Machado's sucking up to him wasn't going to change a damn thing. Someone should have told her you can't charm a misogynist, no matter what. She could have given him her Nobel and he still would have thrown her under the bus.

as most of us have been saying, none of this is about returning Venezuela to a functioning democracy. It's not about drugs either. If it was about drugs, we'd have better drug treatment, not cuts to the ACA. No, this is about oil, and the oil companies. Not that we're going to see lower oil prices any time in the near future because it's going to take years to fix up the decayed infrastructure in Venezuela. While the decaying infrastructure here just continues to decay.

There is nothing in this Venezuela bullshit that will benefit the American People. Those who think it will lower gas prices are the same stupid f-cks that believed Trump would lower grocery prices on DAY ONE and then bring back manufacturing. They don't understand supply chains and they don't understand the time and money it takes to restore infrastructure. I doubt they even know what infrastructure is in the first place. This whole thing is just another "Mission Accomplished" disaster. We'll be lucky if we don't lose tens of thousands over there. No wonder recruitment is down.

The thing about these Epstein files - recent reports cite 1 million new documents. 1 million? Are you kidding me? Are there 1 million documents in the Library of Congress? I could perhaps believe 1 million words, after all there were only 587,000 words in War and Peace.

I know! The encyclopedia Britannica has only 30,000 pages. How many pages do we need anyway to see that Trump was indecent with 16 year olds? There are photos we have seen in print with girls. There is sworn testimony from the girls. Don't we believe them? Do we really need photos? Are we supposed to believe they were just there for a photo shoot?

Face it, neither Trump nor any of the others are going to be charged ever.

Conservatives and whatever they call their party now (Predator Protectors, Putin Permitters, American Fascists) are chronically mired in ideologically erroneous premises that never work out. Regime change intervention creates enormous instability and future problems on a long and large scale. Remember after Poppy Bush's coalition ejected Saddam from Kuwait but stopped short of invading Iraq, because of what General Powell called the Pottery Barn rule (If you break it, you buy it)? Ten years later Poppy's idiot son, manipulated by Darth Cheney and the neocons like Wolfowitz, Perle, Rumsfeld, Turd Blossom Rove, and even the now Sec of State Powell conveniently ignored that rule. The allure of petroleum and war profiteering was too prodigious to ignore, apparently. Lives and limbs of both Americans and Iraqis, hundreds of billions of dollars and years later, and what was gained for anyone besides the American companies that reaped all that money?

The architects of that unnecessary debacle should have been prosecuted and imprisoned.

It's never about any of that. Wars make money for a lot of people. They contribute millions to politicians. BIG TECH is already bribing politicians and Trump to go after the rare earth metals from Greenland. It sucks, but that's the world we live in.
