Real world experience: I'm a white male. I have literally proven through research on at least two separate occasions that I was passed over for a job because the employers wanted to hire a female POC. These were candidates who had no work experience in a position I had worked in for a different company for over a decade, performing precisely the same duties as the position called for. It was blatant. I don't oppose DEI initiatives, but there's no question they've at times been used as an excuse to discriminate against white people. That fact may make some people reading this uncomfortable, but it doesn't make it any less real.
I have to admit, as a white woman I have been passed over for jobs so black women could get them. But in most cases I feel that if those women can improve their lives with better salaries, we're all better off.
