today in Shit That Happened While I Was Writing This Shit:

this just in from the NY Times:

"Are Trump’s Actions Unprecedented? We Asked Historians (Again)."

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/12/22/upshot/trump-presidential-history-survey.html

short answer: YES, OF FUCKING COURSE THEY'RE UNPRECEDENTED

shut the fuck up, New York Times

Kathleen Weber's avatar

Just one mistake, Uncle Jeff! The world's MOST PATRIOTIC BALD EAGLE would have gone for the First Felon's beady little eyes!

Ole Anderson's avatar

This remains my all time favorite clip of the orange shit stain. It is a graphic demonstration of the Cowardice that defines him and fills the core of his soul.

If he even has one.

Joyce's avatar

Sweet Nutcracker, RatATat Tate pasted, the Patriotic Eagle--the only video that would shoot to the top would be Major the German shepherd turned loose in the Oval Bordello: we'd find out, on the spot, what speed Donnie Demento is capable of, if truly motivated.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

The media always stupidly bombards us with year-in-retrospect images, as if we want to be tortured twice! But I'd relish a segment titled The Year in Jeff's gifs.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

You ALL know this really happened, right? I don't know who - but someone was doing a 'segment' on him and HE wanted to show that eagle as if it would denote his (fake-ass) 'patriotism' when those of us who knew, were fully aware he didn't give ONE SHIT about this Country. A true symbol of him then (and now) would be a screenshot of the Studio 54 logo with him standing in the doorway snorting cocaine. EVERYBODY KNEW!

Kathleen Weber's avatar

Run, run, faster, faster!!! Everyone doubted him, but I guess Major was actually training for a mission!

DeStenWell's avatar

I would like to see this reposted as much or more than Pete Kegseth’s skateboard-nuts fail! Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Maria 🇮🇪's avatar

He Doesn’t have a Soul Ole,nor Any kinda human emotion. Totally and Utterly Heartless.

Teri Gelini's avatar

I am sure there is no soul since there is no heart!

MaryTR's avatar

Which of course he doesn't.

Jean Jacoby's avatar

Absolutely. Which says it all about the whole Trumpian, MAGA macho culture. You know, shooting deer with high-powered rifles with fancy scopes at 100 yards and missing, or wounding the animal and then being too lazy to go find it, because that would require exercise and maybe bushwacking through thick grass for 30 minutes.

Leslie Black's avatar

THE MOST PATRIOTIC BALD EAGLE didn’t finish bitch slapping the First Felon into HELL!

Jill Palethorpe's avatar

Only because it was chained.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

That's not a 'gif', Kathleen, if that's what you're thinking? It really happened! I saw the original video. HE wanted them to film him with a real, honest-to-goodness AMURRICAN bald eagle on his fucking desk - then the stoopid fuck (after being told NOT to get any closer to this eagle on its perch (you can see its tether AND the microphone at the top left), reaches his DUMBFUCK HAND underneath - WTF was he NOT thinking? That look on his stoopid face has been MY absolute JOY for years, now. I think THIS should be shown to every. single. one. of. our young enlisted military who believe the AI'd version phonied up to make him look like a real 'military guy' in uniform. THEY should be made aware of just how 'pretend strong' he actually is, and what a fucking chicken-shit COWARD! (not to mention his having his daddy pay for a podiatrist to fake bonespurs giving him FIVE deferments while other decent young men answered their Country's call despite being terrified. My husband was one of them: VERY young, VERY sure he wouldn't make it back home but went anyway because that is what one did. He made friends, there. One of them was his wingman as he drove what became his truck in a convoy. The truck immediately behind them on a muddy road was blown up with no survivors.) I still have the photos he took of it and his time there - but didn't see them until years later (after we'd met). I still wonder whose names from that blown-up truck are on 'the wall'.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

Kathleen: ALSO meant to add...'or AI'.

Bikracer's avatar

My favorite is still ‘The Nutcracker, sweet’!

Elizabeth Ellis's avatar

Or his beady little balls🤣

DJ Headthrob's avatar

Or his mushroom dick and Yeti pubes.

Karen Rockwell's avatar

I'm betting Eagley from Peacemaker would have nailed him.

Linda Weide's avatar

Somehow it seems that Fascism experts like Ruth Ben-Ghiat are saying do not normalize Trump, yet the media does not listen to fascism experts it listens to corporate owners who all want to make a buck off of Trump while buddying up to him as well. Yeech! Thanks for reminding me again why I swore off these forms of media and still write complaints to the independent media I do support when I feel they have messed up.

Linda McCaughey's avatar

Bingo! The answer is always greed.

P123Sunny's avatar

Literally J.F.C.

P123Sunny's avatar

Great topic btw :/ Painful receipts and all

Larry Bushard's avatar

Are Dump’s actions unprecedented? Fuck no. There are very few members of the military left that stormed the beaches on D-Day to battle the German Dump, namely Adolf Hitler. Marcos sold access in the PI via tariffs and embezzled $10 billion from his countrymen. Dump is now ahead of that piker. All the big businesses of the 1930s cooperated with Hitler. Look at the parade of shitweasels in the Oval Office buying access to this orange fuckwitz! We refuse to recognize evil, in fact, we normalize it every day. Doesn’t anyone see the resemblance between today’s ICE thugs and the Gestapo of the 1930s. Wake. The. Fuck. Up!

Ole Anderson's avatar

Amen, Larry.

It is positively infuriating!

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

WE do, Larry - but every. single. magat. fuckwit I interact with elsewhere REFUSES to accept that their orange HERO has the remotest connection to fascism (that's YOU, tjhey cry) or to Adolph, no matter how painstakingly it might be laid out for their perusal. I can only come to the conclusion that they truly are dumbfucks like their presiDUNCE. They claim that he's never been racist, either. It's SMH time every time.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

They may be unprecedented *for a U.S. president* but they didn't come out of nowhere either. The degeneration of the Republican Party has been going on for decades. The end of the Fairness Doctrine, the deterioration of mainstream media, and the Citizens United decision sure didn't help.

Kay-El's avatar

So the first round of answers didn’t meet whatever “normalizing” criteria they were looking for? 🙄

Cheryl from Maryland's avatar

A typical asshole move. Asking the same question again and again, hoping for either a different answer or a mistake that can be exploited. Akin to forum shopping -- e.g., ask Dad in the hopes of a different answer than Mom.

Joe Bacon's avatar

Nothing will stop Pinchy Sulzberger and his Presstitute Posse from endlessly kissing Trump's ass.

Cheri Collins's avatar

Presstitue - love it!

Anna Bolique's avatar

I didn't need the fucking New York Times to tell me that water is wet. JHFC

Joyce's avatar

NYT: But is water, in fact, wet? Pundits question Biden's and Democrats' assertions.

Robert Eckert's avatar

One of the wettest we've ever seen from the standpoint of water

P123Sunny's avatar

Not nearly as wet as it ‘should have been’ under Biden, ppl are saying…

Joyce's avatar

The NYT went to a diner in BumFuck, Iowa, where the three regulars all agreed that the water when Obama and Biden over-regulated it was not actually wet. Once the female Mexican illegals the Democrat party put in charge were fired and sent to Neptune, the water became much wetter. Democrats, in the opinion of the NYT editorial board, should focus far more on this issue by reaching out to voters who are feeling disenfranchised by unwet water.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

Yup. Those danged wimmen. Always doing things they were never made for. Gotta keep them in line and doing what their PURPOSE IS, by gawd.

BC's avatar

We have the best water. In the history of the world, no one has had better water. People tell me all the time how great our water is... On and on and on ad nauseum

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

Even Stallone said so! (Oops, he actually said he wouldn't wash his socks in 'trump water' meant for drinking in wee bottles with that stupid name slapped on them and sold at the golf motel...likely right out of the toilets, but who's counting)? It's his NAME that matters. Stallone's of course, 'cos he's a STAR!

Unity In Defiance's avatar

I’d say unprecedented for our current democracy yes — but over the course of time? No, absolutely not.

This is all a VERY predictable arc when looking at it from a Birds Eye view. Even Greek tragedies feature it over and over again.

Right now, we find ourselves in the “nemesis” phase — activated by both gross hubris and overreach on several fronts. The nemesis phase is the downfall.

This regime is not immune. And process and oversight are an accelerant.

Take comfort in that. It sucks to live through, but these overinflated clowns are speed-running their own downfall.

For anyone doubting it, read my piece “Dumbfellas” I deep dive into it there.

Lady Emsworth's avatar

There are a lot of similarities between America today and the end of the Roman Empire.

Steve Kelly's avatar

America today = Rome 465AD.

Gently, Jack Jones's avatar

True - I consider that daily. I do keep in mind that the Roman Empire took quite a long time to “end”, which it did in a series of fits and starts. Same with the British Empire.

Robert Eckert's avatar

It took a thousand years for Europe's living standards to return to the same level.

Ole Anderson's avatar

Their over reaching incompetence is the only thing that sustains me.

I am just thoroughly amazed that Fat Boy or one of his minions hasn’t got their tit caught in the wringer already given the level of their ignorance.

Hubris is the word of the year for 2026. May it finally lead to the downfall of this entire gang of thieves, grifters and scofflaws.

T L Mills's avatar

That's because most of the media which provides speedy titwringing for erring Dems with obvious pleasure, seems v-e-r-y s-l-o-w to rev up the same energy for visiting similar wringing on Repubbie tits.

Runfastandwin's avatar

I hope so. in the 3500 year sweep of history this always ends badly.

Denise's avatar

Thank you for smacking the hands of all these weak a$$ fools and speaking loud that we are about looking for folks with SPINES to be in Congress next go round.

Marc Panaye's avatar

Alternatively: "Does shit smell and taste bad? We'll find out!"

Ron Gartner's avatar

The word "unprecedented" no longer has any meaning when it comes to Trump

Cheri Collins's avatar

I looked at the headline in your post, and loudly said “Oh, for fuck’s sake!” Didn’t even need to read it.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

Me too - BUT couldn't wait to. Everything Jeff writes hits me similarly. HOW on EARTH does he come up with this? For me, somebody vile had written something REALLY awful about Rob Reiner 'deserving' his awful murder and I lost it right there - ranting in writing for a LONG passage about how could ANYONE, even a magat worshiper of that orange pig think and write something so downright DISGUSTING! She'd bought into frump's description of Rob as 'failing' and 'losing his career'. It's so beyond my ken how gullible and downright stupid they are. It's HOW the worthless scribblers still manage to sell their shit..

Ellen McKenzie's avatar

I have a subscription to the NYT for the recipes. Otherwise, I hate their fucking guts.

Gina's avatar

haha, me too...and I don't even cook...but there's something about reading recipes and looking at the pictures (a kind of porn?)

Ellen McKenzie's avatar

I think it is food porn. You got that right.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

Simply for entering the 'Food Network's part of this year's entry of the big HGTV's home giveaway FIRST - a really nice house plus a vehicle, btw, for which I usually enter through HGTV THEN Food Network, they sent me a FREE subscription to their Food Network Magazine which had a LOT of really nice recipes. I hardly cook much anymore (been living on Chinese chicken/rice or chicken/noodle soups during this bout of flu or whatever it is I've had) for the last few weeks (Dr's. orders) while feeling much too ill to cook anything other than heating up leftovers in the microwave. One is offered a subscription of course but you might be interested in entering the competition (they won't solicit you unless you specify). In fact I find it rather annoying having to enter my name, address and info each year. BTW - the issue they sent me was the October/November 'big' issue full of scrumptious (if I felt better) potato, sweet potato, stuffing and all kinds of sides and dessert recipes. YUM (at some point I WILL make some of them).

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

Oops: I MEANT to add that I used to do the NYTimes crossword puzzle but stopped some time ago when they became overly pretentious.

Debbie Mitchell's avatar

One quick correction. July 18, 2025. 😢

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

here's a hot take from Chris Cilizza that I ended up not using in today' post.

https://x.com/ChrisCillizza/status/2004968160873578511

"What if Bari Weiss was totally within good journalism standards to want to get a fresh and on-topic comment from the Administration"

shut up, Chris

Susan Niemann's avatar

Why does anyone even read or listen to Chris Cilizza...

I always wanna call him Chris Cialis. 🥸

Bob Bowden's avatar

Chris Cliteasa. It’s Sunday, the day to take a rest from worries about a boss looking over your shoulder

Declan's avatar

Chris spends ALL his days trying to explain/sanewash what MAGA thinks/does.. Its part of his shtick to be a 'moderate'. He will be one of the guys that will warn Democrats to not 'overreach', to maintain the center (which is now Dems 20 yrd line), to choose a milquetoast presidential candidate to appeal to, ya know, white conservatives who haven't voted for a Dem in like 50 f*cking years. His sidekick Todd is same (as you know)

Linda McCaughey's avatar

Sorry--"moderate" is a chickenshit adjective used by fence-straddlers who don't want to end up on anyone's shit list when things get real.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

As American institutions, policies, consumer protections, and social norms are rapidly being rolled back into the 19th century, MSM has made it their mission to vilify progressives as extremists -- but never branding MAGATs as such. Joe Manchin, whose single purpose was to disable the Democratic Party, got away with being labelled a "centrist" his entire career.

Declan's avatar

Good observations Sharon. Dominating media is an authoritarian maneuver so they CAN label opponents.as extremists. And woeful Dems don't defend themselves...they just act like.MAGA.lite..nThe brain damage occurred during St..Reagan years.

T L Mills's avatar

So has Susie "Concerned" Collins. And we are getting damned sick of it.

Leigh Hamilton's avatar

It's absolute arrogance, Chris' comment: "You see, I'm so far above all of you - all of you down there in the fray - that I can see 'the truth' from my intellectual, opinionated tower. It's only those of us who *don't take sides* that see clearly."

They are the most obnoxious people on the planet, and I avoid them successfully. Never invite them to parties.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

I just told him to 'fuck off, fuck off, fuck OFF'. Maybe that'll penetrate 'something' especially since he has absolutely NO idea who I am? lolol

Joe Bacon's avatar

We can always count on world class Presstitution from Cillizza!

Kay-El's avatar

That “on topic” comment wouldn’t just be another big fat lie, now would it? 🤔

Diana Hembree's avatar

Also the producers asked government agencies over and over for a comment, and none of them replied. The preposterous idea that you "have" to get a comment from the government to release a piece means the government can kill any story simply by not replying.

Diana Hembree's avatar

PS A hat tip to Journal of the Plague Years and others who shared the 60 Minutes segment on CECOT after it was broadcast in Canada. You can find it here: https://journaloftheplagueyears.substack.com/

Stephen Schiff's avatar

May I offer a correction to your response? Shut the fuck up, Chris.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

I did too - quite a few times in the same post (on his twitter page) BEFORE seeing this post of yours which you wrote long before mine. Apologies, but then, one cannot have too many 'fuck offs' to such a capitulator, can one?

Denise's avatar

“Nah B.” (See what I did there?) She was not being a real journalist. She was being the stooge they hired.

Denise Donaldson's avatar

Cilizza is pushing the assumption that it's no big deal for a top manager to apply standards from a previous position to a totally different new position. "Oopsie! I didn't realize timeframes are shorter in TV. I'll get it right next time." If it was just sheer incompetence, it would still be unacceptable. As it is, we can all see that she was sucking up to the orange blob, and Cilizza is the next-level apologist. Gag me!

Fran's avatar

He’s a certified jerk. There was a time when I respected Klein, Douthat, and Taibbi, but I tend to avoid jackasses once they kick.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

Well, since I just saw this now...9:30 P.M. on Sunday night, I just did it for you! Told him to fuck straight off SEVERAL times! ON his twitter page (never 'x'). Aah, now I'm beginning to feel a tad better. I just might be getting over this horrid flu after all. We don't expect you to carry ALL the water for us, Jeff. WE need to step in every so often and open our damn MOUTHS when we hear something so fuckingly sycophantically DUMB.

MattSMaine's avatar

Thanks, as always, Jeff. I feel that the “mass death” part doesn’t get enough attention. From the obvious (cessation of USAID support) to the past (shining just a light up our asses for Covid) to the future (environmental rollbacks, vaccine policy), he has a lot of blood on his hands.

J Glaspie's avatar

Me thinks he does not enjoy the day unless he's murdered someone.

Theresa Palmer's avatar

That’s true. He does have a lot of blood on his hands.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

He LOVES the idea of 'blood on his hands'. It helps satisfy his lifelong blood-lust mummy and daddy put a stop to when he deeply and desperately wanted to murder his younger brother they DARED give birth to when they already had such a delightful child as HIM as their youngest son. THIS is how psychotic he is and just how far back it goes.

Theresa Palmer's avatar

I knew he threw rocks at the neighbor’s children but I hadn’t heard that he tried to murder his brother!

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

Sorry, MY flight of fancy - given that he IS such a psychopath...but it's been noted that he UNRELENTINGLY harassed and tormented his then 5yr old brother when HE was 7, so to me (also unrelentingly abused by my then 3-years older sister when I was a toddler all the way up through when I left home at 19), I don't doubt that he HATED, was deeply jealous and resentful of his brother for simply being born (as my sister was of me) and wanted him dead. Why else could he not enjoy him as a playmate/sibling and 'torment' him nonstop? BECAUSE of his behaviour the rest of the family were so fucking fed up with, is when his then older brother dumped an entire dish of mashed potatoes ON his head, instead of putting them on the dinner table, to gales of laughter from everyone in the family. He, the orange fuckwit (although I imagine he was less orange then), was 'humiliated' and has borne a grudge ever since. That was one of Mary Trump's recountings. But just imagine that.

Declan's avatar

Inflicting death on groups has the effect on MAGA base of normalizing it....which is the purpose when they seek to eradicate Democrats. No guilt. No mercy.

Betsy L's avatar

Somebody (Stalin maybe?) said "One death is a tragedy. A million deaths are a statistic."

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Charlie Chaplin in "Monsieur Verdoux": “One murder makes a villain…millions a hero. Numbers sanctify my good friend.”

https://www.charliechaplin.com/en/articles/244-Speech-from-Monsieur-Verdoux

Ole Anderson's avatar

He Is setting the stage by his inflammatory rhetoric.

Democrats will soon be fair game.

I’m waiting to see what the ICE Nazis will be doing on Election Day, 2026.

Poll watching in some manner, no doubt.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

I've gotten it on good authority that 'next' will be those who were naturalized within their own lifetimes, even those who imagine being white will keep them safe. EVEN magats. According to vance's wishes, one will have to 'prove' one's grandparents' 'American citizenship' going back to their generation or even further - which of course leaves me and even my Combat Vet husband out. Just imagine how many of US lifelong Democrats brought here by our parents and Naturalized along with them (as was my husband) who won't be 'acceptable' despite him voting republican for a great part of his life (until Obama). THEN they'll get to regular Democrats who didn't 'vote' the 'right' way.

Declan's avatar

Even Hitler supposedly had Jewish blood 3 generations back. Of course that was kept quiet as it was...'inconvenient'

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

Yup - shades of goebbels/miller. Self-hating because he was so horrid, other kids made fun of him losing his hair at such an early age SO he had to attack those HE saw as 'the lowest of the low' - janitors, etc. Literally being so obscene as to run for Class President on the premise that the janitors are there to 'pick up our garbage, so why should WE do it'? THIS as he THREW his garbage on the floor FOR the janitors to pick up, much to the chagrin of the decent kids and the enjoyment of the other monstrous ones like him. He figured out how to get the attention he craved - just like frump. He's been a vile piece of shit for his entire life - and is now telling orange POS wat to do. What could possibly go wrong with frump wanting him as his 'new Roy Cohn'? Ach du lieber.

Janet's avatar

That started early on when Trump started labeling immigrants as “vermin” - straight from the Nazi script.

Mike Hammer's avatar

The sane-washing has literally driven us insane. We need to unfuck this shit up.. cancel what you don’t need, like legacy media.

Leigh Hamilton's avatar

I cancelled well over a year ago. I couldn't tolerate what they did to Clinton and then went bat-shit crazy when they started doing it AGAIN to Harris.

Susan Niemann's avatar

His dementia is so bad, it wont surprise any of us if he takes out his dick out and pisses on the floor. He's a fucking loon. I have completely given up on all legacy media. I watch no network news. They have all stabbed America in the back. Independent journalism is the only avenue for any sort of accuracy. And even then, read from several sources.

Or fuck it all and move to Lisbon. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Mingo's avatar

I canceled my subscription to Time Magazine, AZ Republic, no longer watch legacy local or national news. I stick to several independent media sources. I put my money where my mouth is and it's not into big corporation's pocket if I can help it. I'm still boycotting Amazon, Target, Walmart and Home Depot They are the problem by enabling this corrupt, cruel regime.

HI2thDoc's avatar

When I saw his assface on the cover of TIME, that was it.

Mingo's avatar

I had that subscription since 1989. Their loss.

Charles Austin's avatar

Barking ass mad! As I've said before, NOBODY runs me off my turf!!

David Skoglund's avatar

OMG Susan! “takes his dick out and pisses on the floor….” 😄😂😂

arne link's avatar

His dick is reportedly very small. He would be pissing on his shoes. Let that thought sustain you through the rest of your day.

Susan Niemann's avatar

Thanks Arne! 😂😂 It shall! HAHA!

Kathy H's avatar

Lol, good call. Unfortunately, he pisses on himself then punishes us for it, all while saying it's something HE gets to be proud of.

Diane J's avatar

I thought he misses on his shoes and blames the Democrats.

Mary Beth Gapinski's avatar

He pisses on his shoes, gets some on his hands and doesn’t wash them.

Dr J's Sanity Space's avatar

Arne: I experience huge schadenfreude whenever this is mentioned about the a$$hole, but I also feel for those decent guys who might have a tiny dick..What to do if you were born with one? Not everyone turns pathological ...

Hollie Rood's avatar

Yeah but for those guy, size doesn’t matter. They’re not embarrassed or narcissistic and know what to do with it

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

Was just going to say this. It isn't the 'equipment' but how you use it. N'est-ce-pas? For the FUCKWIT presiDUNCE he has no fucking idea! Yet assumes he's 'king of the world' and no doubt has already looked into having a fake one sewed on. Hopefully by Dr. Oz, LOLOL

Pam Humphrey's avatar

Chris Hierholzer's avatar

More likely on someone else's shoes.

Steve in SoCal's avatar

And you know that folks with dementia are libel to say and do anything as the disease progresses. 😂😂😂

David Skoglund's avatar

New name for “Susan Speaks “;

“He took his dick out and pissed on the floor”.

Pam Humphrey's avatar

That should attract new subscribers.

Susan Niemann's avatar

😂 Maybe not the kind I want, though! HAHAH!

Susan Niemann's avatar

😂😂😂 OK. If you think that can increase subscribers, I'll try anything!

Mary Beth Horsington's avatar

How I would love for the camera to catch him doing that… of course, the press would find a way to normalize it. “He accidentally reached into the wrong pocket …”

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

that's from Jeff - she's adding to it in inimitable style. Brilliantly. And yes, he'd piss all over his shoes (and down his leg) since first he'd have to find it - lost in the huge diaper he wears, pretending it's a codpiece, lol. I might have stolen THAT line from Billy Connolly.

Chris Hierholzer's avatar

If I hear or read a story 3 times I'm inclined to believe it but the way things are going I'm getting suspicious of my fact checking...

Maribeth Ackerman's avatar

We all know that moment is coming, I've been speculating on how the MSM will attempt to "normalize" it at just Trump being Trump.

Chris Hierholzer's avatar

MSM is already trying.....

Tracey Johnson's avatar

You know his magats would then be whipping theirs out in solidarity. Just like the diaper wearing and ear bandages.

Susan Niemann's avatar

Sadly I think you’re right. Geeze America! Get a clue.

Linda A's avatar

2026: gloves off, elbows up. Yesterday was week 43 of our protests in ruby red Shenandoah County Virginia. We also do a weekly signs of fascism protest.

Tess's avatar

Kudos to the Eagle attacking! Your takedown of the media is perfect Jeff! I hope all of us continue to boycott the “tv news” and stick to news from independent news reporters on substack!

Diane J's avatar

It's the fact that it's a bald eagle, the symbol of the US, attacking him that makes it so good. That bird was a warning to fight against him and his fascist party, too bad so many didn't take the hint.

arne link's avatar

In fairness to the voters, they did elect Kamala. There was quantifiable interference in the voting process and the counting. Putin and Musk did their job and they continue to reap their rewards for doing the dictator a solid.

Pam Humphrey's avatar

And, they’re getting away with it.

Lauralite's avatar

Corporate cowardice! Bill Clinton should have known better than to destroy the rules on media ownership. Those regulations were in place to prevent exactly what we have now, which is the vast majority of media is owned by a very small number of entities. The rest is in the realm of flat earthers and anti-vaxxers.

Declan's avatar

Clinton was a f*cking neoliberal. He pushed right wing policies that haunt us to this day. The Crime Bill that old fool Biden wore like a crown has been weaponized by the right for decades. I was a big fan of his but realize now what he did.

Lauralite's avatar

Accurate. My son is a statistician with a doctorate in criminal justice. He says we're not tough on crime, we're stupid on crime. And he's not very liberal.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

That fits. Those 'not very liberal' think we should 'EXECUTE' teenagers who are only suspected of crimes in Central Park based on their youthfulness and skin colour, or haven't you ever heard of frump taking out full page ads calling for the execution of the so-called 'Central Park Five' EVEN AFTER they were released, paid MILLIONS years after they were imprisoned by NY - based primarily on morons like HIM and a very prejudiced police force at the time? One has since become a congressman from Harlem: Yusuf Salaam. The victim in question lived through her attack fortunately and with no remembrance, but frump DID NOT CARE! He wanted these black and Latino youths KILLED anyway, despite there being ZERO evidence against them. WHEN DNA evidence against the REAL perpetrator was found AND he confessed years later AND admitted he committed that grievous act alone (frump claimed the boys MUST have been 'in on it' with him), they were, of course, released. NO huge headlines from the 'right' side of the aisle. Those who're 'not very liberal'! The rest of us knew FULL WELL how young black and latino men were so easily railroaded into false confessions OR threatened & coerced before the system was forced to stop their racial profiling.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

Sorry, when you call MY President Joseph R. Biden in THIS safe space (formerly MY President Barack Obama's active VP) an 'old fool' you've lost me as a compatriot. There's ONE 'old fool' we're dealing with, and he's a peculiar shade of orange spackled-on makeup! HE's our problem, not the decent and good man who gave us the Pact Act, the CHIPS Act, walked the UNION LINE with those protesting their jobs going fuckity-bye because of frump and did everything possible for VETERANS! Some of us who are married to, parents of or children of veterans who suffered injuries - or in Joe's case, having a son he believes his brain cancer was caused by BURN PITS HAPPEN to APPRECIATE HIM for those things, AND for putting his head down and working his ass off to try to right the wrongs and the awful mess HE inherited from the fuckwit Preznit (as Jeff calls him)!

Declan's avatar

Im sorry...you are correct

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

If this is meant for me, thank you.

Mwfeiger's avatar

In "Network", actor Beatty gives the speech to the rogue newsman, how the news is 'owned' and that there's no democracy but...[names all the biggest corporations]...and foreign countries we are in debt to. It's not new, it just is.

Ole Anderson's avatar

Watched it last night. A remarkably prescient film!

Written, acted and directed to perfection

The Clintons and their neo-liberal ilk were the beginning of the true downfall of the Democratic Party. I have despised them since their rise. And as classy, etc. that Obama and Biden were, they continued that direction, ignoring the trends in the party membership that led to Bernie Sanders threatening the Democratic establishment. Both decent men, but far too moderate. I can understand why Obama practiced restraint-Biden had no excuse.

Shalone's avatar

You are 100% correct, the media needs to take much responsibility for the horror we have in charge. I quit the NYT having been a subscriber for decades. I don't think I will ever trust them again.

Susan Niemann's avatar

Same here...and WaPo. I dont need that kind of BS in my life.

David Skoglund's avatar

When Jen Rubin left wapo that was it for me.

Susan Niemann's avatar

Yup! She's awesome. I'm glad she came to Substack.

Lauralite's avatar

Thanks!! I didn't know she is on Substack.

2Cats2Furious's avatar

Instead of Rubin, WaPo now has an “Editorial Board” churning out right-wing AI slop at an unprecedented pace.

It was still a good paper during Trump 1.0, when Marty Baron was EIC. now is trash.

Cheri Collins's avatar

Yep, I dropped both.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Larry Ellison, Oracle founder and major stakeholder in Paramount Global, which owns CBS, is another Trump-loving snake whose billions set him on a cloud with the other corporate gods. Bari Weiss, who has crushed CBS News credibility and public trust like rotten fruit, is his vapid tool.

Betsy L's avatar

But - but - Bari says she wants to restore integrity to the media! SMH.

Maribeth Ackerman's avatar

The thing is, NYT and WaPo have real reporters, with real sources. They have both been breaking real (and devastating) stories about the current regime. The editorials and opinions are easily ignored, but real news matters.

Harold Miller's avatar

As good and decent citizens, we must continue to be outraged by the horrors being visited upon our Nation. When we cease to be outraged this evil will be normalized, and Democracy will end. VOTE! PROTEST! DONATE TO THE; ACLU, THE SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER,

DEMOCRACY DOCKET SUPPORT JEFF AND OTHERS WHO OPPOSE THIS EVIL.

AND ABOVE ALL; STAY IN THE FIGHT AND REMAIN OUTRAGED!

Susan Niemann's avatar

AGREE! Ive been a card carrying member of the ACLU for years.

Joe Bacon's avatar

The problem I have with the ACLU is their full support of Citizens United which got us into this mess. They insist that unlimited spending on campaigns is free speech.

David Skoglund's avatar

That is a blind spot for sure, but they are still an important part of this fight.

arne link's avatar

I never tire of the clip where Drumpf runs from the eagle. I think it's better than the nut-smasher. Otherwise, more bad news in a miserable world. I hope we can right our ship eventually.

Lisa K. Obrien's avatar

His face in that clip always cracks me up.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

THIS! Hubby kept focusing on the Eagle, but then I asked him to PLEASE look at frump's face - then played it a few times until he 'got it'. It's HILARIOUS, that look of abject terror! It SO NEEDS to be shown to every single member of our military. Their 'commander in chief', lolol. More like their cadet bone spurs, so dubbed by Tammy Duckworth, the real hero.

Paula Dean's avatar

I agree! I just love watching tRump's face!

arne link's avatar

He looks terrified and probably had to change his diaper after that encounter. I love it so much.

Karen Hall's avatar

I’m surprised the bald eagle didn’t try to nest in what appears to be drump’s hair (or some kind of straw/hay combo woven with maybe some other synthetic substance applied with glue). 🪹🦅😂

Hollie Rood's avatar

That’s as close to the real tRUMP we’ll ever see. A bigly unfiltered, cowardly, scared POS

Ole Anderson's avatar

It’s the Best!

Not that all of us intelligent folk would not have been startled and alarmed by a serious predator such as an Eagle, the abject cringing fear demonstrated by Fat Donnie gives us a clear glimpse into the cowardice at his core.

My favorite trump clip ever!

John Schwarzkopf's avatar

"Democrats need to extend the olive branch — y’know, in the spirit of healing and unity and all."

Democrats need to find the biggest fucking olive branch they can and use it to beat the shit out of every republinazi they see.

Linda Fulcher's avatar

But with that mediocrity Ken Martin leading them they won't do shit and will allow the fascists to get away with everything, again. I find it interesting that Trump has not threatened Garland yet - after all, why would he? Garland was a right-wing stooge.

WRITE! I have several times. People say, of they wont pay attention. But we have to try. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I write, I call, I email. Constantly. I'm fortunate in that I live in a blue state and have two Democratic senators.

Cindy Watter's avatar

So do I and they voted for the crypto bill. Yes, the price of living in California, aka Techlandia. Grrr.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

No, Garland was not. He was mistaken in bending over backwards not to politicize the DOJ, but don't assume everyone you disagree with is the enemy.

Robert Eckert's avatar

He was acting like a judge, when his role was that of prosecutor. He did not do his job.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

I don't disagree. That doesn't make him a "rightwing stooge."

Lise Buranen's avatar

Books and covers and all that... but still, just to look at Ken Martin does not stir my radical blood. He even *looks* like someone who doesn't want to offend anyone.

Virgin Monk Boy's avatar

What’s maddening here isn’t just that the press got it wrong, it’s how eagerly they kept inventing bedtime stories for adults who were already wide awake and alarmed. The wishcasting wasn’t innocence, it was a reflex, a need to believe that calm language and calls for restraint would somehow summon a conscience where none had shown up before. Watching the same pundits recycle the fantasy that normalization would civilize a narcissist feels less like analysis and more like amnesia.

And every time Democrats are told to be gentle, to heal, to move on, what’s really being protected is the comfort of institutions that don’t want to reckon with how badly they failed. Normalizing fascism isn’t neutrality, it’s participation, and pretending otherwise hasn’t spared anyone the consequences. At some point, refusing to say that out loud stops being prudence and starts being complicity.

Paula Dean's avatar

You nailed it, Monk Boy.

Linda Fulcher's avatar

And active collusion.

Lise Buranen's avatar

Yes -- seems none of them has ever had to live with a narcissist.

Ole Anderson's avatar

That point was reached a long time ago.

Was listening to a couple of seasoned pundits… they had a problem w/ the “I’ve Had It” podcast OKC ladies ‘venturing into politics’… Why? They know as much as anyone(!) They vote. THEY ARE F’n CONCERNED. They are everyday ppl that NEED TO BE HEARD. Afraid they might be ‘inaccurate’???

Some of these guys that trashed Biden (bandwagon!) are slowly backing off. F this SHIT… Too many ivies not enough everyday ppl in the discourse imo.

Diane J's avatar

Very well said. It's time that these pundits get their heads out of their a**es and knock off with automatically discounting women.

P123Sunny's avatar

And then they run around w/hair on fire afterwards asking ‘how did we lose WHITE WOMEN’??? How about listening to them.

(Also: Manufactured Consent is a helluva drug, punditry… careful out there, y’all 🫤)

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

I've lectured a couple of times at rightwing Hillsdale College (on movies). The last time I was there I was interviewed for the student paper and asked if movie stars should get involved in politics. My reply was: why not? They're citizens, just like anyone else. Clint Eastwood speaks out too. What's wrong with that?

P123Sunny's avatar

Each of us count as one vote. Whether you are ‘informed’ or not… Those Oklahoma ladies also serve as messengers for a certain part of the electorate who might connect w/them = more engagement.

I mean does JRogan have any formal political training in his background? Or did he just start thinking out loud… just asking questions

Neal Stiffelman's avatar

We all know what must be done and we know it won’t be easy, or pretty, and we know the lying bullshit that will flow from the media and WE DO NOT FUCKING CARE. WE GONNA DO WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE.

Brad Yazell's avatar

Cancelling my NYT and WaPo subs last year was the best investment I could have made. Never again.

Joanne Rossmassler Fritz's avatar

I canceled them both last year too. I get all my news now from independent journalists and The Guardian.

Ole Anderson's avatar

I don’t trust Politico any longer. The Guardian has remained clear eyed and steadfast, fortunately.
