The thing is, NYT and WaPo have real reporters, with real sources. They have both been breaking real (and devastating) stories about the current regime. The editorials and opinions are easily ignored, but real news matters.

The problem I have with the ACLU is their full support of Citizens United which got us into this mess. They insist that unlimited spending on campaigns is free speech.
That is a blind spot for sure, but they are still an important part of this fight.

I canceled them both last year too. I get all my news now from independent journalists and The Guardian.

I've lectured a couple of times at rightwing Hillsdale College (on movies). The last time I was there I was interviewed for the student paper and asked if movie stars should get involved in politics. My reply was: why not? They're citizens, just like anyone else. Clint Eastwood speaks out too. What's wrong with that?
Each of us count as one vote. Whether you are ‘informed’ or not… Those Oklahoma ladies also serve as messengers for a certain part of the electorate who might connect w/them = more engagement.
