"Murkowski Says She Will Oppose Blanche’s Nomination for Attorney General"

https://www.nytimes.com/live/2026/08/07/us/trump-news?smid=nytcore-android-share

well, that's going to make it that much harder for the president's personal ambulance chaser to be confirmed for AG. even that traitorous fuck Fetterman says he's a no vote

Linda Weide's avatar

What Lisa says and what Lisa does are not always the same thing. She is reliably unreliable.

steve robertshaw's avatar

As is the word of Fetterman!

Leu2500's avatar

Murkowski has voted NO on some key issues. for ex, she was one of the NO votes on killing the ACA in the felon's 1st term. Collins saying she'll also vote NO tells you everything about how much she's sweating reelection.

HI2thDoc's avatar

I wonder what Collins would do if she weren't up this year

Bonnie Boyce's avatar

Collins would express grave concern then vote for him anyway.

Steve in SoCal's avatar

They have enough "yes" votes, so she was permitted to vote "no" to try to keep her seat

T L Mills's avatar

Yeah...it's also the first time EVER that I have heard her beg for money in one of her personal ads for re-election. The ads generated by her PAC (Pine Tree Results) are truly nasty mud-slinging masterpieces of filth. Oh yeah, she's concerned for reals, this go 'round.

P123Sunny's avatar

I n t e r e s t I n g

Diana's avatar

Exactly, Maine is my home state and Collins is wicked scared about her upcoming reelection- back in the day she had great mentors with Olympia Snow and the rest of the Republicans up there that kept her straight- now…. I wouldn’t trust her at all! The old timers up North might still be voting for her… I hope she loses- but that’s me‼️

T L Mills's avatar

you are not alone!!! I was hoping and praying she'd lose the last time--right after she voted to let Kanvanaugh out of committee, but Sarah Gideon jusst didn't have the chops or the brilliant ads starring Bill Green (I still haven't forgiven him for those)

P123Sunny's avatar

LM used to be a reliable hero

Susan Niemann's avatar

I'm keeping my fingers crossed on this. 🤞

Marian Vitale's avatar

She might be as well. 😉

Susan Niemann's avatar

Right...she's very two faced.

It’s Lucy with the football, again

Jane in NC's avatar

IF she holds up her end, big IF, the Blanche nomination comes down on the rounded, slumped shoulders of Bill Cassidy. Holy crap.

Eileen's avatar

I just called Senator Cassidy‘s office and spoke to someone. Bombarded them. Keep their phones ringing. 202-224-5824

John Newsom's avatar

Cassidy has just said he’ll support Blanche’s confirmation

Jane in NC's avatar

Christ on a bike! People who do the right thing when it costs them are heroes. What do we call people who won't do the right thing when it costs them NOTHING? Coward doesn't seem enough.

T L Mills's avatar

As with Susie Collins, as well. I don't trust any of them. Their "word" is meaningless.

Wendy The Druid 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🌈's avatar

Look, Uncle Jeff, We are winning, and the ass crack of the GOP is showing because of it.

So here's a take (pointing at the GOP) you flop-sweating electability-whispering shitweasels: Abdul El-Sayed torched the establishment's pick. Jaelynn Scott — Black, trans — took eighty-seven goddamn percent. Joanna Whaley, a hospice chaplain, is one November from being Michigan's first trans legislator. Sharice Davids: eighty-three. Emily Randall won by thirty-five points.

Yet meanwhile Republicans spent the week in a full ass-covering scrum over Max Miller and a withheld stuffed bunny, while Mike Johnson valiantly declared "I will tell Max what I tell everyone."

riveting stuff, GOP Fuckwads out there. I hate you all.

https://thistleandmoss.com/p/what-survives-the-morning-democrat-socialists-are-winning-the-ass-crack-of-the-gop-is-showing

Joyce's avatar

Holy Brother Johnson telling Max "No Bunny For You!" Miller what he tells everyone? Meaning, "I don't know, I didn't hear, I haven't read, I saw nothing, I live under a rocky overhang on an asteroid"?

Martha Howell's avatar

I suggest Mr. Tiedrich offer a second award, this time to the journalist who answers that Sgt. Schultz cos player with, "So how does this make you qualified to hold your position? Shouldn't you know what's going on? Doesn't your staff keep you inforned?"

HI2thDoc's avatar

Does that ass crack belong to Two Names Mullin? He is a plumber, after all

Tess's avatar

Great post also Wendy!!

Fran Fried's avatar

Wow ... this is the first I'm hearing about Jaelynn Scott. Even MS Now hasn't mentioned here (at least when I've been watching). What's up with that? 😊🏳️‍⚧️🇺🇸

rlritt's avatar

Sorry cant agree about El-sayed. He won by less than 1%, but that was caused by a rift in the Democratic party. And sadly all the polls say he loses to Rogers. Polling shows Stevens (4 time state representative) would have beat Rogers because she is well known and has a great record.

I wouldnt be surprised if a bunch of Republicans crossed the line and voted for him. Why, when winning the Congress is a slam dunk, is the Democratic party splitting into 2 parties? Are Republicans funding the Dem Socialists?

Wendy The Druid 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🌈's avatar

RLritt. I find your engagement taxing at best. no, I find it downright fucking frustrating. Who's side are you actually on? I mean, in previous comments you were pretty transphobic to me (and I'm a Trans woman, I should know what that sounds like). So I dont really get where you are coming from or what result you THINK should happen. You talk like a Conservative shill in sheep's clothing, just a tad.

rlritt's avatar

When have I ever said anything about trans people? And what does being Trans have to do with this discussion?

And I have never voted Republican. I'm just a solid Democrat no matter what. For Pete's sake, I worked on Obama's campaign!

rlritt's avatar

I want the Democrats to win.

Why are we splitting the Party? The polls showed Stevens sailing though in a match up against the Republican Rogers. Now its a toss up. The Democrats have held that seat for several terms. Now they may lose it.

Wendy, tell me truth why is the Democratic Party suddenly split in two? Why did they have to run two candidates when Stevens, with her experience would have sailed thru? Since you are journalists, use you investigative skills to find who is giving the Democrat Socialists so much money. I bet if you dig you find out its Musk et al. This has his prints all over it.

Joyce's avatar

Well, it's a pretty discouraging outlook, that Mamdani, Ocasio-Cortez, Sanders, et al, are on the take from the Republican Party. Sounds as if there's no point in voting at all, because it's all fixed for the Republicans then.

rlritt's avatar

I dont think Bernie and AoL or Mandami get money from the Republicans because they ran as Democrats. They did not run as Democratic Socialists. They ran against

In what scenario do the Democrats win if they divide the Party?

NEAL O'CONNOR's avatar

These are Social Democrats, not Democratic Socialists. Republicans are scared to death! There are many viewpoints held by many people in this big Democratic tent! It is not a party that is splitting, but rather expanding after years of Republican abuse.

Caroline (PDX)'s avatar

Enough with the El Sayed and Democratic Socialist bashing. Splitting the party? No, it's the 'centrist' democrats, refusing to see or admit to the reality that they are just as much a part of the problem as Maga at this point. Get out of the way and let this country have a chance at a future for all. Do you also have a problem with Mandami?

SethTriggs's avatar

Republicans say lots of things. I want to see what happens when it's time to vote.

Mike Hammer's avatar

We can always count on republicans to do the wrong thing, especially when they know it’s the wrong thing.

rlritt's avatar

It looks like we can count on the Democrats shooting themselves in the foot.....again.

NEAL O'CONNOR's avatar

Shaddup! The Democrats will win big in November! You can read the polls!

rlritt's avatar

Not if we spit the Party. It should be all Democrats all down the line. Why is there another party called the Democratic socialists? That is playing right into Trump's hands as he calls the Democrats Communists. And yes I know the difference, but 10's of millions of voters do not.

Joyce's avatar

So--which Democrats are committed to voting 'yes' on Blanche? I hadn't heard about that, as the news has been focusing on the GQP members who may/may not.

rlritt's avatar

Democrats have unanimously voted against the nomination of Todd Blanche for Attorney General.

Mike Hammer's avatar

Sounds like The Onion.

NEAL O'CONNOR's avatar

Fetterman said that he would not vote to confirm Blanche.

Joyce's avatar

They always pretend they're going to oppose and then promptly vote in favor. And any that seem as if they might not be lying are hastily brought in for a "private meeting," during which, apparently, they are reminded of criminal activity they've been involved with and assured Dear Leader will not pardon them if they cross him.

Punkette's avatar

We need one more Repub to vote no — Cassidy’s on the hot seat but does he have the guts? I doubt it. 🙄

2Cats2Furious's avatar

Cassidy is a yes, unfortunately.

HI2thDoc's avatar

Any time Fetterman is NOT a traitorous fuck is a celebration

Cindi Lynch's avatar

The real question is what Cassidy will do. He's got nothing (obvious) to lose, so will he have the courage to vote No? (And how fucked up is it that voting against the confirmation of a blatantly corrupt toadie requires courage?!)

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Cassidy just said he'll vote for Blanche. How he can justify that we'll never know because the media won't ask. Flush them all out.

HI2thDoc's avatar

When the supposed two holdouts voted to advance Blanche's nom out of committee, it was a definite el foldo, but actually not surprising from the party of sycophantic shitbags.

This will be among the infamous dates

Susan Keefer's avatar

This happened! Trump backed Tennessee shithead, Andy Ogles loses his primary!! 🥳

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c79grd2prnro

rlritt's avatar

I heard Susan (scared of losing her seat) Collins will also vote against him. Unless Trump assures her and pinky swears that Blanche won't do anything shady or underhanded to help his one client Trump.

T L Mills's avatar

Susie ain't over bright, but I don't think she's stupid enough to believe Dump--but I wouldn't hold my breath, either. She's NEVER been brave nor much of a leader--she's always been a follower.

Marian Vitale's avatar

She and Susie can cast these performative "no" votes because they know a spineless moron like Bill Cassidy will roll over. And he just did.

Joe D's avatar

So with Cassidy a yes, Republicans have exactly the number needed to avoid pissing off the orange creep, but two of them get to pretend to be all righteous and ethical, including the one afraid she's going to lose her election. Excuse me while I engage in some projectile vomiting.

Hilary M's avatar

Well here comes Cassidy to fuck it all up AGAIN. Will wonders never cease

Michael Fredericks's avatar

We'll see how they vote when the rubber hits the road.

Vee Cross's avatar

I think Murkowski and Fetterman say this sh*t just to psyche people out. Nothing they say or do should be taken past face value. I used to be more fair-minded, but people like them have pushed many of us past the point of no return when it comes to their word or pledges.

2Cats2Furious's avatar

Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter. If all Democrats plus Murkowski and Collins vote no, that’s 49 no votes. With McConnell abstaining/dead, Blanche still gets confirmed 50-49.

The only hope was if Cassidy also voted no, but he says he’s a (reluctant?) yes. Fuck him.

Just y’all wait until Blanche starts filing cases under the Comstock Act to prohibit the mailing of medication abortion pills, including to states where abortion is legal. It’s coming.

Lynn Van Haren's avatar

They have the votes of slimy, spineless Republicans to confirm him, especially if that traitor, Fetterman, votes with them

NEAL O'CONNOR's avatar

Fetterman said he will oppose Blanche's confirmation.

P123Sunny's avatar

Sad that it’s such a TOUGH DECISION for such a deliberative body who is supposed to uphold the Constitution at the end of the day… sad & uninspiring :/

(But I’m sure it’ll pass ‘by the slimmest’ of margins)..🤬

this is one of those posts where I'm checking my notifications every three minutes to make sure that Mitch McConnell hasn't released a video right while I'm in the middle of writing about how he won't release a video

Miselle's avatar

OH heaven's sake, don't hold your breath on that one! And if they do, methinks it might be another one of the weird AI one--maybe toddler legs will be growing out of Mitch's crotch.

And the MAGA will have NO PROBLEMO with it.

T L Mills's avatar

Hey...those extra fingers and extra toddler legs growing out out of his hip are just a side effect of all those meds they hadda give him to resuscitate the near corpse, dontcha know.

Linda Weide's avatar

Last weekend my uncle had a heart attack, while in the hospital for a fall at a mall. He was brain dead before they noticed. That meant my aunt took him off life support and he is no longer alive. So, while I am still somewhat in shock over this, I can still see how Mitch McConnell could be brain dead too. It did not take long for that to happen. If he is, it does not matter where they put him, it just matters whether or not he opted for do not resuscitate.

Thank you, Michelle. My family is all in Chicago right now, except for me, because I cannot fly that far for health reasons. So, it is not real. I have been reflecting on what a good person he was. He isnt going to Jeff.

There are numerous videos on tiktok of people going in and out of his house.

We all know he's dead. Just accept it.

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

I've come to the conclusion that he's not dead — yet. that would be too hard to hide for two months, I'm thinking. but clearly he's not functional and he's not going to get better

Wendy The Druid 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🌈's avatar

Jeff, I think its a hes on life support, and that means technically alive, but not "functional". Agree?

Joyce's avatar

In the immortal words of Severus Snape: "I see no difference."

counterlife's avatar

I agree. It could be he does not require life support and can breathe on his own, but a stroke or heart attack caused severe brain damage and he is unable to speak or think in any normal way. An 84 year old vegetable?

Susan Marleau Whelan's avatar

I'm waiting for a reporter, or anyone at this point, to go to the McConnell house and ask to see Mitch and personally speak to him. Seeing in person is the only way to believe that he is still excisiting on this earth. At least physically. That's if that is where they are actually keeping him.

Linda Weide's avatar

Wasn't the governor supposed to do that?

Most of the non-gubmint salary money was hers anyway. Her pops gifted the crappy couple "between $5 million and $25 million" in 2009. Add to that the huge earnings they've chiseled from us, what with his decades in Congress and her being in the cabinet twice.

Brad Yazell's avatar

I've driven past that store in Tennessee. Just south of Knoxville I believe. I always wondered what kind of idiot would set that up. Now I guess the idiot is broke. Probably killed by tariffs on the cheap chinese shit they imported. Oh well.

Speaking of Tennessee, I see Andy Ogles lost his primary yesterday. Another Trump lackey bites the dust!

That news about Andy was a real bright spot!

HI2thDoc's avatar

Shucks. That's a great sexual harassment name, like what ol' Chuckie Edwards did to his staffers.

Lynn Van Haren's avatar

Andy Ogles had to be one of the dumbest members of Congress. Good riddance! TN voters, why do you saddle us with these dumb asses?

The way you started off reminded me of something that happened about 36 years ago. I was living in Texas & watching the afternoon news, & the weatherman said, “No rain is expected today”. Mind you, I was sitting in my living room by the window. I turned my head & glanced out the window & said, “Hmm, obviously someone hasn’t stepped outside today!” It was pouring!!

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

why am I unsurprised to hear this

Tonya Browning's avatar

Because it’s Texas & they suck!!

Doug Wright's avatar

twas a time I'd take umbrage to that quip, but as a native texan...I agree. Cruz, Cornyn and Abbott have allowed the heartbreaking destruction in Big Bend Natl Park for the useless "border barricade." I just cant anymore.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

I just rewatched the "Raise Hell: The Life and Times of Molly Ivins" documentary on Netflix (miss her so much) who told us weekly how much and how bad the Texas legislature sucked. And also the NY Times which forced her out for her candor and refusal to do the "two sides to every politician and that's OK" stories.

T L Mills's avatar

A local paper here in Maine used to print her columns regularly and I always read every one...plus I got all of her books (mostly collections of her columns, but some new stuff, too. I LOVED her columns on Reagan and G.H.W. Bush and his difficulties with the English language. (although nothing like the word hashes and soups that Donny makes) Yeah, I really miss her, too.

2Cats2Furious's avatar

Ooh, adding to my watch list!

Thank you Jeff.

A quick glance at the news aggregator this morning shows an array of winning. First, the "imminent deal" that was supposed to be done on Monday, er -Tuesday, -so close -Wednesday, in the war not war now has Iran in control of Hormuz and U.S. and Israel ships banned.

Russia is considering a provocation of NATO since WarCrimes Secretary Hegseth has used all of our missiles in a losing effort in the Middle East, and in striking fishing vessels and murdering fishermen in the Caribbean. The economy is starting to lose jobs (although the measurement has to come from a source other than an official government source since the pedo criminal elect has replaced anyone who might respond with facts or evidence-based information. And Goebbels is directing the criminal elect to sign new, illegal EO's -which will be another waste of time and resources (other than to distract us from the Epstein-Trump-Maxwell files. Susan Collins is teasing us on the Todd Blanche confirmation by stating she is "bothered" by his continuing to break the law in not releasing the pedo-files. And the lawless, abusive ICE now says will release body cam footage when we feel like it so G.F.Y.

Happy Friday (and thank you for the Claudia memories and sharing -sending hugs with appreciation for you Jeff).

HI2thDoc's avatar

Secretary of Machismo and Killing has made America much less safe by stupidly depleting our arsenal. And then blaming Joe Biden. Commensurately, the idiocracy has gutted State and wrecked the intel apparatus and completely alienated any and all longtime allies, so any terroristas out there may be getting ideers.

rlritt's avatar

Joe Biden. He left over a year ago? How is this his fault?

rlritt's avatar

I read a headline somewhere that Trump reamed out Hegseth. Is that true?

George A. Polisner's avatar

I would be surprised. The pedo criminal elect only goes after those who attempt to hold him accountable for his corruption, crimes, and incompetence.

T L Mills's avatar

Well, he gets pretty testy when one of his minions fails in their duty to do exactly what he wants regardless of whether it's legal or will result in their disbarment, since he doesn't give a rat's arse about anybody but himself. I mean, he thinks his kneeling lickspittles SHOULD fall on their swords if he requires it.

“On the advice of my doctors, I’ll maintain an intensive regimen of physical therapy from home during the state work period, and I’ll continue to engage with my staff and colleagues on important Senate business,” Mitch McConnell’s aides quoted him as saying.

OK, cool. But, hey - can't you spare 2 minutes of your intense exercise time to show THE WORLD that you're still alive?

rlritt's avatar

Can't he get a TV crew in to tape his interview?

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

We now have the technology to video record flies fucking at 200 yards. And yet zero footage of Mitch being wheeled back into his house.

Fastball Fredo's avatar

Jeff, a bit of local news from AZ.. Turns out Treasury Secretary Bissent, Speaker Johnson and a AZ congressman were in Casa Grande the other day touting how strong the economy is..
