I really miss Joe Biden's presidency, when half my posts were about the endless series of rakes that clowns like Comer Fudd were stepping on.

these current events are just too fucking grim.

I miss everything about a president who acted like a world leader and who gave shit about humanity. Aside from the fact that electing this sociopath has led to the tragic loss of lives, jobs, healthcare, personal safety, peace of mind, decency, the rule of law and our freedom, it’s also just so fucking embarrassing. The world is watching as we burn everything down, and alienate everyone who matters. I hope they were also watching us out there in the streets this weekend, so they know we don’t all think this is okay.

What bothers me most is the manipulation of President Trump by Miller, Bondi and Theil and other people pushing project 2025 the blueprint for fascism. While he bumbles around infront of the cameras, they are working behind the scenes to dismantle our Democracy.

I think we all miss Joe Biden's presidency.

The last day of March: a president at 33%, a state criminalizing bathroom use, and the planet cooking the poor first.

Thought experiment: If Iran now attempts to assasinate tRump, would / could the world condemn it? Or, would a majority of reasonable people say well, tRump deliberately killed their leader first, so they were just trying to settle the score? A serious question.

NY Times Pitchbot on Bluesky this morning:

arne link's avatar

Yes, satire. And I completely get that you're unsure. The fact that it's hard to tell is exactly their point. The Times has some of the most ridiculous both-sides takes.

2Cats2Furious's avatar

NYT Pitchbot is a parody account, kind of like The Onion. It works as satire because Pitchbot is uncomfortably close to real NYT headlines.

Christianity is a hell of a drug.

Lisa Bieber's avatar

Whatever this shit is, it AIN'T Christianity!

arne link's avatar

Amen! I glad to see that the new Pope is doing his part to shame the war mongers and evil, hateful people.

2Cats2Furious's avatar

Pope Bob ain’t afraid to call ‘em out.

Lucius's avatar

It absolutely IS Christianity. Claiming that it somehow isn't is how we got here to begin with.

Christianity is not synonymous with good.

Christians have been doing this exact kind of shit in the name of Jesus for seventeen hundred years and God hasn't stopped them yet.

Lisa Bieber's avatar

Using religion to justify murder and thievery is an old trick. Doesn't mean folks are Christian. I'm pretty sure Jesus wouldn't recognize any of these bloodthirsty treason weasels.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

He'd recognize them as Pharisees and Judases, the ones who betrayed him to the Romans.

Lisa Bieber's avatar

I stand corrected!

Lucius's avatar

Accusing people of being a Pharisee is an antisemitic trope that's caused a lot of suffering. Please don't.

The bible's depiction of the Pharisees runs directly counter to actual firsthand accounts of the time. Which makes sense because it was written by a rival sect with an axe to grind.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Excuse me? There were no "Pharisees" who "betrayed him to the Romans." That lie from texts written much later is the basis for the calumny "the Jews killed Jesus." In fact, the Pharisees (i.e., the rabbis) had no power with Rome but when the Gospels were written they were the enemies of Christian leaders who were upset that the Jews were not joining their new religion.

I hope you wrote that out of ignorance and not malice.

Lucius's avatar

Evil people can be Christian. Christians can be evil people. There's no contradiction there and we need to stop insisting there is.

Fascism spread in this country through Christianity.

steve robertshaw's avatar

I got no dog in this show, I just want to point out that these SarahHuckleberrySanders types are self-labeling themselves as 'Christian' when of course in reality they don't comprehend the basic essence of Jesus' purported ideas.

Chris Hierholzer's avatar

Jodi Richard's avatar

Anne Murray's avatar

Did you see what the Pope said last week? - essentially this is absolutely not what Jesus said.

Bob Bowden's avatar

It’s a helluva label to slap onto a bottle of poisoned KoolAid. What’s inside is not Christianity

arne link's avatar

Who said "Religion is the opiate of the people?" Religion is the cause of most of the misery in our beautiful world. I hate fake Christians with the fire of a thousand suns.

Lucius's avatar

They're not fake Christians. They're perfectly real.

Evil people can be Christian and Christianity has never stopped anyone from being evil.

Christianity is the vector that fascism spread by. Failure to recognize that and curb Christianity's influence is how we got here to begin with.

Robert Eckert's avatar

But some Christians do resemble Jesus somewhat, and do their best to live up to what Jesus taught. Of course alongside those have always been people who are completely antichrist in the literal sense of going against everything he said, and call their fantasy figure "Jesus" nonetheless.

Lucius's avatar

Jesus wasn't a perfect example of goodness. Not if you actually read the Bible.

He flat out admits to lying in order to avoid “saving” people he doesn't like in Matt 13:10, for instance. He also says that anyone who doesn't reject their own family isn't welcome in his group. After all, he came not to bring peace, but a sword. So set father against something, brother against brother etc.

The last thing we need right now is toxic Jesus fandom. We need to strip away the centuries of propaganda and whitewashing of Christianity's history and reputation to be able to look at things as they are, not how we were raised to see them.

Robert Eckert's avatar

You are not looking at things as they are if that is how you read Matt. 13:10 where he explains that he speaks in analogies (not lies) to reach those who have understanding, but some people will simply never listen anyway no matter how plainly you speak.

"He also says that anyone who doesn't reject their own family isn't welcome in his group." What he says is that you should not put your kinship loyalties above everything else (like, say, Trump allowing his family to profiteer at the expense of the whole country), although he acknowledges that saying this is bound to cause divisiveness.

Gina's avatar

john augustine's avatar

There's no contradiction. Christianity is what Christians DO with it, not a synonym for good. Christian history is full of examples of genocide for Jesus.

Jack Carter's avatar

There are no worse type of extremism than the religious one. No way to even try to use reason as all is “God’s willing”. Punkt schluss. Deaf and blind puppet followers. In the name of God, massacres have been committed since the dawn of civilisations. Just fake christianism. Awful.

Lucius's avatar

It's not fake. Christians did it in the name of their god and their God didn't stop them.

rlritt's avatar

Surprisingly, for the first time I see Trump's approval going consistently and widely in the mid 30%. In spite of everything for his whole term it's always stayed at 40%. It was so frustrating that no matter what he said or did there were always the 4 out of 10 saps who still stuck with him.

Robert Eckert's avatar

The rest is just obvious: "who, when asked what they needed, she simply looked up at me with a sly smile on her face and said, more bombs, sir, and bigger bombs. we will happily oblige her.” ( it's straight out of middle school male fantasy land. Pete met a junior airman (he did say air MAN) he wants to fuck, but he had to make sure everyone understood he was talking about a woman, thus all the pronoun confusion, "they", "she", "her" following airMAN. we did the same about the time the orange mussolini started the war of choice....can I ask the source for the best high interest savings accounts? We also put a lot into CDs that were paying about 4%

2Cats2Furious's avatar

Bankrate.com has a roundup of the interest rates and terms for various types of accounts (checking, savings, CDs) at different financial institutions.

Megan Ross's avatar

I do the same. CD's are very competitive right now and I've taken full advantage of those rates. My high-interest savings accounts are with solvent, well established small banks, that have been in existence for over a hundred years, many of them on the East Coast. I don't really want to name the name of my banking institutions online though! Google is a great source for finding these financial institutions.

john augustine's avatar

thanks Megan....my current bank pays about 3/10s of a percent and the larger ones that have MM rates are running little over 3% so the CDs are much better now.....if the shit in middle east continues and causes inflation, I think the FED will raise interest rates

Robert Eckert's avatar

The value of the dollar may take a serious hit.

Martha Howell's avatar

No one alive remembers when the dollar wasn't the dominant currency. It's going to be a hard fall, especially because we lack the imagination and humility to anticipate it and brace for it.

True, but I feel more secure about my funds being in high interest rate savings accounts and CDs, in solvent, well established small banking institutions, than I do about the stock market.

2Cats2Furious's avatar

Yep. Rising inflation undercuts the value of those interest earnings, but as long as you control your expenses, you can manage.

But I’m risk-adverse that way. I’d rather deal with the dwindling value of the dollar, as opposed to the outright loss of those dollars.
