programming note: towards the bottom of yesterday's post, I reposted a "Trump vs Musk" meme that was two people having a fistfight. if I'd looked closely enough, I would have seen that the photo was of a man punching out a woman. ugh. just fucking ugh. I'm mortified that this had to be pointed out to me, and I've deleted the photo. sorry, everyone!

Your apology is a thousand times more sincere than Joni Ernst’s. If you were a Republican you would’ve blamed your eagle-eyed readers of being woke virus infected libtards.

HI2thDoc's avatar

But the woke virus must be a hoax, because COVID is.

Pere Ubu's avatar

MAGA is eagerly working as we speak to see if ivermectin will, indeed, cure woke mind virus

HI2thDoc's avatar

At the very least those folks will be de-wormed

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

According to my bestie, who has an old high school friend that lives in MAGAland Tenn. they are taking it to ward off cancer, now. She said Oh? That's interesting. (she no longer attempts to try and explain reality to them.)

P123Sunny's avatar

But ‘libs were owned’ in the filming of that apology… still priceless apparently 🙄

This is how an adult handles a mistake, no matter how inadvertent. The sewer clowns would double down on it.

I actually thought it was 2 women fighting! Though, I guess, violence is never the way to go. But part of me would like, no love, to see trumpy & musky go at it! Think it’d be more slap fight than anything!?

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

two women is what I thought, too. still, a dumb choice to use that pic

LindaSRW's avatar

Well, we all make mistakes. We're not perfect like the Orange POS.

Thank you for your apology.

Jeff, I respect vividly your laurels and your self-awareness.

I covered KKKaroline today, in our morning edition post.

https://thistleandmoss.com/p/kkkaroline-leavitt-blowjob-queen

(My self awareness says, I did not perhaps title the post all that well).

cablecargal's avatar

Fantastic read!

I knew nothing about KKKaroline except that she oozed hatred and condescension. Her face is so punchable.

DR Darke's avatar

It's nasty but fair, given Donald Trump ONLY considers women worthwhile based on how much he wants to fuck them, so the women who work for him play up to that.

The women in Trump's orbit don't DESERVE anything that resembles the fair return you'd give any other woman, because they've made their bed, and now must sleep in it....

Some years back when Ann Coulter said something so hypocritical and disgusting that I and a friend of my then-wife mocked it, she got angry at both of us for "insulting women!". We both pointed out it's not a woman, it's Ann Coulter, who slaps women every chance she gets, and who deserves to be slapped back when she's caught out in sleazy behavior.

I feel the same way about Karoline Leavitt, Pam Bondi, Marjorie Taylor Green, and every OTHER Leggy Blonde Republican.

Stranger Than Friction's avatar

OK, but hear me out. We can mock these women, without rape jokes (which are NEVER funny guys), and without commenting on their appearance (something I'm trying to remind myself to do every time) BECAUSE THEY SUPPORT SUCH HEINOUS POLICIES AND POSITIONS OF A WANNA-BE DICTATORSHIP. Mock these people for their speech and actions, because it's like shooting shellfish in a barrel.

DR Darke's avatar

Most people don't give a shit about "supporting heinous policies and positions of a wannabe dictator" because—it doesn't affect them personally. They're White, and they're not out there protesting—what have they got to worry about? They're Good Germans, every last one of them.

Trump's turning the country into a Fascist dictatorship right in front of us—but what's REALLY important to you is that we not make fun of gender traitors like Karoline Leavitt, Pam Bondi, Marjorie Taylor Green and Ann Coulter?

No wonder Liberalism is a joke in this country.... 😮‍💨

Stranger Than Friction's avatar

Ooo, I hit a nerve. No one here at Wonkette is defending those horrible people. All the females here at Wonkette are asking for is, cut the misogyny shit. Don’t care where that is aimed, it’s misogyny. Go after them for what they do and what they say, what they represent and support, just as we should if they were male. Yes, everyone with working eyes can see what they look like, but it is irrelevant where fighting fascism is concerned. Mock them for their deeds. It’s easy to attack people for their looks. It’s cheap, easy entertainment. And no, liberalism is not a joke in this country. If it is to you, why are you here at Wonkette?

DR Darke's avatar

Speaking of "hitting a nerve"—you know, the Right uses projection so much it's become pretty easy to spot these days. 🧐

::If it is to you, why are you here at Wonkette?::

I'm not, I'm on Jeff Tiedrich's Substack—what are YOU doing here? I mean, yes, I know what you're doing here, but this isn't Wonkette I'm reading it on or responding to.

The point I was trying to make was that you knee-jerk think that I'm being "misogynistic" when I say, "It's okay to use the same weapons we use on men on women, when those women only fight dirty themselves":

Do you object to us mocking Trump's "small hands"—which is a euphemism for saying Trump's such a Fascist because he has a tiny dick?

Or saying that Stephen Miller Himmler-like behavior is the result of his being cuckolded by Elon Musk—because Miller's such as shrimpy, unattractive man?

Or laughing at Pete Hegseth's alcoholism, and how it's made him impotent, which is why he's so hung up on being performatively macho?

We say this about men in Trump's orbit ALL the time, and I have yet to hear you, or anybody else, say, "How DARE you suggest Trump has a teeny weenie?!?" I mean, maybe you do—but I'm not reading this on Wonkette.

Stranger Than Friction's avatar

Sorry, wrong substack. The message still stands. If you think liberalism is a joke why are you here (at Jeff's substack)?

A.J. Madison's avatar

Jeff mentions that we're in the stupidest possible timeline. While the GQP has its share of dolts, I'm sure many of them are pretend idiots, or will plead willful ignorance, because to understand what is happening would mean that you like violence towards women, or would blow your alibi on ripping off your constituents in service of giant corporations that are raping the earth.

Is pretending to be stupid any different that actually being stupid? Guess it depends on how much richer a GQP office holder is than when sworn in for the first term. Considering Marge 3 Toes is $220 Million richer, I'm thinking she's got brains enough to cash in bigly. AFAIC, its an act, and she just relies on saying the most idiotic, unedited bullshit, which is classic MAGA politics, behind closed doors its clear she's screaming show me the money.

Marlene Lerner-Bigley (CA)'s avatar

Have you ever made a mistake, Marycat? Many of us have mental illness in our families. Mistakes by us are constantly made. Jeff had the temerity to admit to his. The picture wasn’t meant to trigger a rabid response. The problem I had with it was that it featured two Black people which was a big mistake. I am certain that Jeff is banging his head against the wall for using it. He removed it which is better than the Repubs impeaching TRUMP twice!

HI2thDoc's avatar

In my experience Jeff is apologetic when he unintentionally insults someone not deserving of his ridicule.

This "This Week in Stupid" was great all the way through, Jeff. Thank you for existing and writing!

Walt Svirsky's avatar

Now we have a playbook. When the phony ICE agents abduct somebody, immediately march en masse to the home of the nearest MAGAT-in-Charge and demand their release. We know it works, make it so.

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

well, we know it works in New York State, anyway. but you're right, the tactic needs to be tried everywhere

Phil Burns's avatar

It was tried in Chicago recently but nothing happened yet.

arne link's avatar

When they did it recently in a San Diego restaurant people poured out of neighboring buildings immediately. The gestapo was only able to get four guys and the rest were let go. This stupid policy of disappearing people from their work is going to hit restaurants really hard. Everyone knows who's working back in the kitchen and it ain't Magats.

Phil Burns's avatar

It happened here recently. Cops did nothing and why the fuck does ICE have 'Police' on their uniforms...THEY'RE NOT COPS!!!

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

No but they might be criminals, if the article I read saying the republicans voted to hire the insurrectionists as ICE is true.

Phil Burns's avatar

I saw an article on facebook where the gop blocked a bill prohibiting J6ers from being in politics or working for the government but orange hitler pardoned them so it doesn't matter.

Walt Svirsky's avatar

Phil, all of that fake “Police” gear is being sold by Jeff Bezos on Amazon.

Patricia Williamson's avatar

Some protests against ICE in Southern California have turned violent; throwing things at ICE and being arrested. This worries me. I know they are angry, but being destructive will cause Trump to react in a bad way.

Walt Svirsky's avatar

Patricia, I don’t doubt what you say is true. How else will we stop them, though? I hope we are not talking Borg and “resistance is futile.”

They will not stop. The law will be ignored (i.e. the Supremes last 9-0 vote) and people will continue to be sent to camps, or worse.

We must resist.

Robert Eckert's avatar

National Guard on the street now, first time the Guard has been federalized against the will of the state governor since 1965 Alabama

Denise Donaldson's avatar

Loved that that pushback happened in San Diego, arne. The video I saw was priceless, especially the guy following the ICE thugs, shouting, "Fucking cowards!"

Wendymae's avatar

Now they're using teargas, flash bang grenades, pepper spray and arrests. (LA yesterday)

Phil Burns's avatar

That's fucking bullshit!!! Were the protestors armed or getting violent? Probably not...ICE and the dog killer are pushing their limits!!!

Wendymae's avatar

No and they also arrested (after sending to the hospital with a head injury) the head of California's SEIU, David Huerta. ICE did a full on military style raid.

Phil Burns's avatar

I saw that on our local news. ICE is out of control and must be stopped!!! HOMAN AND GNOME CAN PISS OFF!!!

longtimebirdwatcher's avatar

Phil, in my life, you can be walking down the street, carrying your school books and notebooks, all along with no one else in sight, and a police car will pull up beside you with a pepper sprayer in the back window, and they pepper sprayed me. It took three hours before my face stopped being bright red, not to mention the irritation the pepper spray caused. February 1969. It's one thing when you're 18, another thing when you're 75, which I am now, and why I think old people shouldn't go to demonstrations.

Phil Burns's avatar

I'm sorry that happened to you but I can't just sit back and watch.

Denise Donaldson's avatar

In San Diego, they said they used flashbangs to "keep the crowds back." In the video I saw, the crowds weren't pushing in, even before the thugs launched the grenades.

Wendymae's avatar

That's what it looks like in LA now too. Miller is calling it an insurrection and FF is sending in 2000 troops. JFC.

Denise Donaldson's avatar

Just saw that. "JFC" is right!

Rick Calegari's avatar

Those thugs will eventually show up everywhere.

Phil Burns's avatar

They were here last week and they were here in January but didn't take anyone. I think some of those idiots are wannabe thugs...like the militia morons that dress up like real soldiers only they wear unofficial BDUs...like these guys do.

Walt Svirsky's avatar

Who did they picket, Phil?

Walt Svirsky's avatar

Thanks for the link. You know, one of these days cops are going to have to make a decision. Are we supporting the fascists, or the citizens of America? Police standing around “keeping the peace” while people are disappeared by phony ICE agents ain’t gonna cut it.

Dave Drell's avatar

Mayor Johnson (Chicago) needs to communicate to the police- tell these ICE NOT IN OUR TOWN- and don’t let them grab people off the city streets. even if they threaten the police with “Federal Jurusdiction “ crap. hold that line solid

Phil Burns's avatar

Feds have priority unfortunately. They do need to do something than let Noem's gestapo get away with that bullshit. Did you know there's a commercial with her telling immigrants to register then leave and they can return another time?

Lorraine Parish's avatar

it is big time in Los Angeles today

Mombeka's avatar

There was another video of some people in a neighborhood forcing the ICE agents away from their neighbors by surrounding the neighbors in a protective circle and screaming SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! at the ICE agents until the backed off and left. We all need to step up and protect our neighbors who are at risk.

Diane Rose Halstead's avatar

That was in San Diego I think. It was awesome!

Declan's avatar

California's are stepping up! Another reason to love Cali. And if D denies Cali their funding grants, Cali should NOT send tax dollars to DC.....for 50 years the blue Dem states have been funding the TAKER states....Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas and many others. it's BULLSHIT.

arne link's avatar

It was. That's what we have to do.

longtimebirdwatcher's avatar

Actually, people in San Diego swarmed out of a restaurant where ICE was attempting to arrest workers, pointing their fingers and loudly chanting "Shame, Shame!" They kept backing up the ICErs and finally the ICErs broke and got into their trucks and drove away. California does it right! Point your fingers and shout "Shame, Shame!"

arne link's avatar

That reaction made me so proud. Good people everywhere must push back hard. Meanwhile, our Governor seems to be going to the dark side.

Susan P Thatcher's avatar

Every immigration lawyer in the US should be working to get these people on a legal footing.

Mombeka's avatar

I know of an immigration attorney in his eighties right here in Hawaii who goes to work every day and won’t think of retiring because of the fascist take over of the United States government. There’s plenty of folks out there working for next to nothing to help immigrants. The rest of us need to recognize and support their efforts.

Terri Nighswonger's avatar

We have a Livermore man abducted by ICE this week. Whose house would we visit? We are all Dems. That is why this abduction is so crazy. Has a family, son in high school, works at Wente Winery, where my husband and I worked …. Doesn’t make sense

arne link's avatar

Don't you just love the irony? These people who supposedly live on welfare and food stamps have full-time jobs for thirty or more years? Wow.

Lisa's avatar

Yep and all the "illegals" getting accused of bilking our system and getting rounded up at their place of EMPLOYMENT for god's sake. The irony, it hurts.

Walt Svirsky's avatar

Yeah, I think there are going to be situations like yours, Terri. Where do we go? Who do we picket? But, when we do have a target, let’s get after it.

The horror of having protestors show up at your fucking LAKE HOUSE!

Rick Calegari's avatar

It was reported this morning that ICE was at the Vons market in our old neighborhood in Thousand Oaks. My wife and I went over there to check it out and fortunately, there was no sign of those brownshirt shitweasels. There were several people sitting in lawn chairs in various spots around the parking but one person said they didn't show up. Could've been a nasty rumor that someone started on social media but it's still way too close to home.

shee-rah's avatar

Now we have proof positive of the reason why the Republicans have been attacking the educational system all these years-voters are dumb as fuck, and now we have a regime where a requirement to write an essay of loyalty to an anti-American, anti-democracy domestic terrorist group is being required.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Another nugget in this week's stupidity lineup is Trump's hiring of 22-year-old professional intern Thomas Fugate to run the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Center at DHS. The latest zero quals puppet groomed by the Heritage Foundation, where he's got daddies.

Fat lot of good it did to stop Sherman). Those who scream states' rights are like teenagers screaming "You're not the boss of me," and demanding the car keys and an allowance, no questions asked.

Why aren’t there age limits for serving in congress? How about the presidency? There are 7 congressmen born in the 40s. Grassley was born in 33! 65 is our de facto retirement age. Why the hell are these ancient artifacts still in congress!?

Jeanne Leduc's avatar

Because their stupid ass constituents don't bother to pay attention, they go in the booth, look at the ballot:"oh I've heard that name before" , fill in the circle.

Pere Ubu's avatar

Same way Tacoführer is staffing the (mis) Administration.

Betsy L's avatar

Because having experienced politicians in office is, more often than not, a good thing. Yes, Grassley's old, but so is Nancy Pelosi. Yet she's venerated by Dems and Grassley's condemned by them. Vice-versa by Republicans. I agree that he's an idiot, but putting age limits on public service is short-sighted. We need politicians who are experienced.

My husband's 66, retired army officer, works as a contractor advising the Special Operations Command on weapons of mass destruction and counter-IED training. Nobody's said a word to him about retiring because his knowledge is so valuable, and very few people in the US have his experience. He loves what he does, and has no plans to retire. It's the same with politicians.

Dave Drell's avatar

But he’s 66 Grassley is 92-

Pelosi & experience or not, 90 should be the limit.

Gina's avatar

normally nature has 90 as some kind of upper limit (eek, I'm 89), but congress is some kind of bariatric chamber or something and its denizens live forever

Kristy Kanen's avatar

I'm 73 & I'm just fine, mentally, thank you 🤔

Lisa's avatar

I’m not just talking about Grassley. 66 is not old. I’m 71 and could likely do better than Bobblehead or Sporkfoot. 90 is too old. Schumer is 74 and the most he can do is write a strongly worded letter! Experience sometimes brings complacency. To become president you have to be 35. Maybe 80 is too old to be in congress.

Robert Eckert's avatar

Pelosi is another one who should move on.

Declan's avatar

Grassley is rolling in money as he gets a healthy salary as a Senator....and the best health care on the planet.
