You look at dementia centers, the better of them are well aware of the nocturnal sundowning that takes place in late-stage patients, and they design around it instead of fighting it. I read about one facility that’s basically a looping night-walk: a wide corridor in a circle, with way stations every few yards where residents can pause in settings their brains still recognize. There’s a 1950s-style diner nook that always has two tiny pancakes and coffee, a TV room permanently tuned to late TCM and old variety shows, a “front porch” with fake twilight and crickets on a loop, even a little newsstand with yesterday’s papers.

The idea is not to drag them back into our clock, but to give shape and comfort to theirs: let them walk, pause, remember for a second who they were, then keep orbiting until their bodies finally agree to rest.

Anyone who has dealt with a parent of grandparent with dementia sees this for what it is. Complicating this is the fact Trump is and always was a truly horrible person with severe narcissistic personality disorders that may include ASPD (common with serial killers, war criminals, and CEOS) and surround him with complete complicity, and here we are.

I've posted this on other forums, and the content has been misunderstood and thus I"ve been chastised for it, SOOOO....let me start by saying I absolutely DO not like tRump, at all. PERIOD.

That being said, AS A HUMAN BEING, I feel badly that another human can so obviously be in cognitive decline and truly (imho) have absolutely ZERO persons who love them enough to care for them. I firmly believe that not a single one of his KIDS, current or former WIVES, or any single person at Mar-a-Lago, in the Cabinet, or in MAGAland loves him---he is all just a conduit for money and/or power.

IF anyone loved him, they'd have him in a residential community where there was low stressors, a constant routine, AND (since he seems to be developing the aphasia that my late Alzheimer's impacted brother had) in speech therapy to try to maintain what he has left.

People told me he is reaping what he sowed. Yup, I agree. My point is when looking at him abstractedly, I find it sad to be THAT alone in the world. In an ideal world, nobody would be that alone, yet also in my ideal world, a "Trump" would never exist.

I've seen dementia up close in both sides of our family. What is coming isn't going to be very dignified at all--and if his family loved him, they'd not let his decline be on full view to the world. IF not happening already, a hallmark of EVERY family member that has had cognitive decline has been incontinence of bladder (first) and then bowel (in the middle/late stages).

J Hardy Carroll's avatar

If this is hell, it is not hell enough. The man has caused immense suffering to an ever-widening circle, starting with his family and school mates and growing to include the entire world. Is he at fault? Certainly, but the true blame rests with the enablers who use the screen of his apeshit tyranny to achieve their own sadistic ends (and enrich themselves). The Democrats are also complicit. They have an enormous amount of power, but their corporate masters enjoy this chaos and are getting richer and more powerful. The rotten, corrupt system is at fault, and we’re still so smitten with the Myth of America we won’t address it.

Miselle's avatar

J Hardy, I'd visit my brother and have to sit in my car sobbing before I was able to drive home. He became very fearful of the staff, and so would fight being bathed. When he was about a year from dying, the aphasia took over and his frustration at trying to communicate his thoughts, or understand what was being said to him was horrible. I don't know if he gave up or the aphasia took over so at the end, his vocabulary was limited to a few single words. He had a haunted look in his eyes that I didn't know how to bridge the abyss to reach him. The last half dozen visits--he had forgotten who I was--I'd simply sit holding his hand and gently massaging it, as I could see him visibly relax, and he'd fall asleep.

I think this is what is coming for him, but who will attempt to calm him?

I don't know what punishment would be enough for tRump--I'd like to see him rot in prison and his grifting family reduced to poverty.

I'm not quite as bitter as you seem to be (and you might have good reason to be so) but I am hoping that we will flip the government and real change which will benefit "we the people" and not the billionaires, will come. It will take time.

J Hardy Carroll's avatar

Thanks. I am sorry you had to experience that sort of suffering. It is a cruel affliction for a family to witness. I am not so much bitter as I am angry. I want to not only flip the government, but remake it so it serves the common people. Laws that apply to wealthy as well as poor. Address the wrongs of the past and remake this so the actions match the oratory. The system has failed the people by functioning exactly as the Federalist slaveowners designed it to function.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Mercy to the criminal is cruelty to society in this case.

Miselle's avatar

I agree, Sharon. My point in all this is it is a shame that a human could exist without a single person who truly loves him--not this cult worship. I have no sympathy for Trump the man.

Nancy Potter's avatar

Sometimes, mercy to a person who doesn't deserve it, and has been cruel his whole life, isn't about him, it's about us. I think he knows that everybody around him now, including his kids, is only using him. If he has cognition left, yes, prison. If he's deeper in dementia, he can go to a memory care, and we'll see how many people, even his kids, will bother to visit him.

Evelyn Freitas's avatar

If that is true, then we had better take a long look in the mirror at how much we have become like that which we abhor.

john augustine's avatar

if the entire current system doesn't change and just goes back to status quo, I'm afraid there will be more trumps vomited up in future

Gail (Chicago)'s avatar

I personally feel like we, and the whole world, are witnessing his "punishment" in real time. He has chosen a life centralized around greed, pursuit of power over others, misogyny, racism, bigotry etc... He is weakness personified. He is every bad choice any of us have every made, personified. We are watching the devolution of a person who chooses all of that destructiveness. If he were sitting in a prison cell, we wouldn't be able to see it.

Miselle's avatar

You do have a point there.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Please, what is this "enormous amount of power" the Democrats have which they are declining to use? And don't say "impeachment" unless you explain how they get to 67 votes to convict in THIS Senate.

Cat Cafe's avatar

Yes, thank you. People keep blaming the Democrats, but THEY HAVE NO POWER at the moment. It's ridiculous.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

I could not agree more. Saying stuff like that is kneecapping ourselves. I see great Democrats standing up and speaking out every day. When we retake the House (and hopefully the Senate) these heroes WILL fight for us. But we make that less likely when we tell people how useless Democrats are for not doing things they currently have no power to do.

Linda Weide's avatar

Irascible Ink's avatar

Because they voted for the bigot king and moved on with their lives. I keep saying this because I have MAGA fam and friends. They Do. Not. Watch. his derranged Oval Bordello clown shows. They Do. Not. See. the fucktastically idiotic congressional inquiries. They Do. Not. Watch. his official primetime pre-empting grievance monologues.

The rallies are over. They have no bandwidth to stay tuned. He's hating on non-white people and that's enough. Everything else is just blah blah blah.

john augustine's avatar

I too have friends/relatives that live with eyes wide shut

J Hardy Carroll's avatar

Not harsh enough for this asshole. But at least we don't need to worry for his loved ones because he hasn't any.

Miselle's avatar

⬆️🎯🎯

However, I would like to see all this corruptly attained wealth of the Trump family to be removed.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

No, the Democrats do NOT "have an enormous amount of power" and the people who say this are grabbing their coattails and trying to pull them back into even less power. We cannot retake ANY power if we become a circular firing squad. I get the frustration, but our own side shouldn't be the target (especially when we degrade our most effective people and lavish praise on bright shiny objects on our side. I won't name names but it happens constantly.)

Dave the Spot-on Moron's avatar

It had to be locked out of a cabinet meeting because it wouldn’t stop ranting about a U.S. plane being shot down in Iran. Apparently it went on for hours and would not shut the fuck up. It is losing control of its impulses (what little control it had). One of these episodes is going to be in full view of the world. Frankly, I’m looking forward to that moment. Speaking of losing bowel control, its Oval Office thing with Joe Rogan last week was cut short with security suddenly rushing everyone out while it just sat there like an idiot. Apparently, it shit itself. Again. It hasn’t had bowel control for years, according to Noel Casler who produced its stupid game show. It’s from decades of cocaine and stimulant abuse. orange anus face is a very unwell thing.

Miselle's avatar

Dave, based on family history, I can expect to see him spontaneously remove all clothing and walk in public areas fully nude; forget how to use cutlery and make every food a finger food; on the rare occasion of using the bathroom smear feces on the wall and about the toilet; start to steal from others and hoard objects in odd places. (he's probably doing that last onealready....)

You exemplify what I HATE about this administration: the cruelty of MAGA to anyone they consider "other" makes me so angry! I am angry that they make me really, really have intolerance towards Republicans, and I DO NOT want to allow them to strip my humanity from me!! Referring to Trump as "it" is certainly your right--and I bet many people agree with you!--but again, as much as I dislike him and hate what he is doing to the world, I will fight the urge to become what they are. II would not be surprised if many in his orbit think of him as an "It" and if you deal by calling him "it" and it helps you, so be it. As for me, I honestly look for the Big, Beautiful Obituary first each morning.

I hate also how he has degraded the position AND the office of the POTUS (I think the gold geegaws are a sign.)

Sue P's avatar

I would not call anyone an "it" but I have stopped capitalizing trump for years now. Others deserve that as well, but I decided he is the worst of the worst and does not deserve the respect that capitalizing a name implies to me.

Miselle's avatar

I've had that thought that since he likes to constantly refer to Obama by using his full name, emphasis on the middle one, perhaps people should start using the REAL surname: Drumpf

Dave the Spot-on Moron's avatar

I won’t use its name. It has earned my hatred for what it’s done to my country, to my fellow citizens, to people I would otherwise like and respect. The “it” thing is new for me. I previously only referred to it by monikers like “orange anus mouth” or “butthole mouth.” It deserves no respect of any kind. “Hate” has become a very loaded word. Hating others for the color of their skin or their heritage or any number of other traits they have no control over is not the same as hating an individual for specific harmful acts they have committed. Raping a child (or an adult) reduces a person to subhuman status, in my opinion.

cablecargal's avatar

If I have to mention him, I use his real name, Drumpf. Will never call that arsehole 'President'; never!

Claudia Montague Wheatley's avatar

"and hoard objects in odd places. (he's probably doing that last onealready....)"

Linda Weide's avatar

I get it. I have a mom with dementia and I keep saying Trump probably is not cognitively capable of reading the laws let alone the constitution.

It is why we need to article 25 him, not just keep hiding the laptop and his phone, and the red button.

Miselle's avatar

Agreed about the 25th.

I'm sorry for you and your mom, Linda. My late sister in law suffered from THREE different cancers over nearly 3 decades and fought them all, but each one reduced her further and further to the point it was will only that simple will to live that kept her going. Her daughter told me that between the suffering from cancer, or the decline of dementia, the dementia was harder to watch.

J Hardy Carroll's avatar

The bar for the 25th is too high. It won't happen. But impeachment and removal certainly can. Another constitutional crisis for us! Yay!

Maybe at some point we'll realize that the foundational document isn't gospel so much as a series of compromises that allowed slave-owners to keep their property while adhering to the freedom rhetoric.

He was placed in assisted living when he was in moderate stages. He received P/T and speech therapy. (I sat outside and listened. It was painful. They handed him a fork and asked the name, and he couldn't bring it up. I can still hear the anguish in his voice telling them "I KNOW what it's used for, I just can't remember what it's called!"

Then COVID hit, and the care stopped, and he couldn't understand what was going on. I really can't write anymore about that. Year from hell for the entire world, and Trump the jerk helped make it worse. So, again, no love lost between me and Trump.

Ellen H's avatar

ADP (auditory processing disorder) is something I am unfamiliar with and I was unaware that it was suggested that Trump had it. I may have seen it in the past but glibly read past it because I didn’t know what it meant. Thanks J Hardy for bringing that up.

Trump has so many serious mental disorders that it’s hard to keep track of them. He moves from one disorder to the next with such speed that it’s hard to keep from getting vertigo; and, sometimes, he combines two or more of them at once making one’s head spin uncontrollably. And while you’re trying to digest what just happened he races off to the next clusterfuck of a spectacle.

It’s like his lies — he fires them off in such rapid succession that by the time you fact check the first one he had spit out four more.

He’s like “Pigpen” only the cloud that follows him is cloud of confusion and disinformation spiced with false certainty and (I am told) with an aroma of ass music.

He should be put in a cage in a traveling circus with a sign saying “Modern World Biological Oddity”

That would be more accurate than “President of the United States”.

As an alternative, I suppose, his title could be “Donald j Trump, placeholder”

HI2thDoc's avatar

I have changed my opinion of Cohen. I bought his book, Disloyal, and he seemed genuinely contrite about all the shit he did for drumpf, but now I wonder if he wasn't faking it for money. And surely he must know things about the Epstein trafficking ring. Subpoena his ass

myhoopbabies's avatar

I agree. He's actually a good writer and I used to read his stuff once in a while, but I can't get past his complicity in so much of Trump's hideous behavior. You know he knows where the bodies are buried and he probably dug the holes. Subpoena his ass, indeed.

Miselle's avatar

You know what, Doc--that thought seems to be behind his fight with the MidasTouch network.

This is my honest opinion--I don't think he knew about Epstein, and this is why I think it: Cohen was an underling tool for Trump. Cohen wasn't rich (he had to take a loan, I believe, to pay off Stormy) and had no particular reason for Trump to include him in the elites. Just a mudsill to him. I have this feeling that Trump thought he was better than Cohen, so he wasn't worthy. Cohen appears to truly despise Trump and I think if he had goods on him, he'd be dumping.

I don't blame him for writing the book, as I don't know how he would have made a living for himself. Who would hire him? The stink of Trump on him can't be washed off, and MAGA sure wouldn't hire him. He does have his podcasts which I enjoy because I think he has a better take on him than most of the pundits out there, having observed him for about 15 years.

Then I saw another beast come up out of the earth; it had two horns like a lamb’s but spoke like a dragon.

12

It wielded all the authority of the first beast in its sight and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose mortal wound had been healed.

13

It performed great signs, even making fire come down from heaven to earth in the sight of everyone.h

14

It deceived the inhabitants of the earth with the signs it was allowed to perform in the sight of the first beast, telling them to make an image for the beast who had been wounded by the sword and revived.

15

It was then permitted to breathe life into the beast’s image, so that the beast’s image could speak and [could] have anyone who did not worship it put to death.i

16

It forced all the people, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to be given a stamped image on their right hands or their foreheads,j

17

so that no one could buy or sell except one who had the stamped image of the beast’s name or the number that stood for its name.

18

* k Wisdom is needed here; one who understands can calculate the number of the beast, for it is a number that stands for a person. His number is six hundred and sixty-six.

Thanks for the pot reference. Reminds me of a favorite saying of mine. Four guys getting drunk will start a fight. Four guys getting high will start a band.

So, we don't think you can tell

Heaven from hell

Unneeded pain

Bold fact from lies

In your rotted brain

We don't think you can tell

Did they get you to trade

Your bone spurs for gold

Kindness and love

For a heart so cold

How we wish, how we wish you weren't here

We're just a screwed up world violently hurled

By your hate and fear

It's the same old shit year after year

Wish you weren't here

Awesome, Jeff. Well-summed.

Speaking of shitting, Trump’s whole persona is late-stage bodily-failure authoritarian chic. A sweaty, rambling, barely coherent old man rage-typing deranged TruthSocial posts that are treated by the mainstream press as something between a Supreme Court ruling and Papal Bull.

This morning we learned of Kash's TWO public urination arrests "when he was younger." Trump would see this as JV-level public tinkling when he clearly expects the full MAGA blowout of pants-shitting in public like a real man of history, preferably into a monogrammed adult diaper with an eagle on it (available at the MAGA store for only 39.95)

If you’re on Team Retribution and your big flex is public urination, that’s not exactly the stuff of strongman myth. You’re basically the Proud Boys’ junior-varsity hydration issue.

It fits. Trump’s whole aesthetic has always been about escalation: from “I barely know the guy” to “I only hired the best people” to “that never happened” in three sentences, so you know somewhere in his withered brain he’s thinking, “Why are my guys just peeing in public when they could be soiling themselves for the cause?”

His lieutenants aspire to full trouser catastrophe. Shitting is where True Policy is born!

Maybe a return to MAGA diaper era: of rallies where people showed up in giant diapers and “Baby Trump” cosplay to own the libs and somehow also own their own dignity.

In that context, Kash’s little puddle feels off-brand; if you’re not willing to go full Depends Patriot, are you even committed to the movement.

Wait a few days for Hannity segment earnestly explaining how Real Men don’t take bathroom breaks because that’s what communists do.

Wait, the old fatburg has to go to the correspondents' dinner, doesn't he? What's he doing in Florida? Is he going to show up or what?

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

he didn't go to Motel-a-Lago yesterday, he was at some Republican retreat.

because I'm a Responsible Journalist And Everything™, once of the first things I do every morning is check Donny's official schedule.

I appreciate your being on top of this. I couldnt do it.

Lois Henry's avatar

His official schedule looks like he spends 80% of his time commuting.

barb's avatar

probably sleeping the whole time while commuting given that he's up all night spewing nonsensical, delusional messages on UNtruth Soc(iopathic)ial.

Jayme Wolworth's avatar

But he has his Meme Coin Gala at Mar-a-lardo tonight, no? He's the "headliner' ffs

rlritt's avatar

Can you believe that?!? He is selling gold coins with his face on it and asking for money. Isn't there some law against president's profiting from a scam while in office?

HI2thDoc's avatar

There's the Emoluments clause with the Constitution, which he treats like TP anyhow

rlritt's avatar

He just doesnt think laws apply and everybody just shrugs because owns the court.

This is how broken I am: I can't laugh at the idiot maga-verse anymore, the best I can do is cringe. This past week has been PTSD inducing. I no longer open my emails with any hope of 'good news'. It's not Jeff's fault! His posts are still the highpoint of my mornings. It's just that I wake up early these days, so by the time Jeff's posts drop I've already seen the horrors of the day and I'm too depressed to laugh at anything.

I go on news fasts if it gets too overwhelming (and it gets too overwhelming a lot). Spend that time outdoors instead. You won't miss anything earth shattering in the news and you'll get a dose of vitamin D. Also, hugging dogs really helps my mental health. And gazing at beautiful art. Or shitty art. Just something that isn't around the clock doom and gloom. ❤️
