I am hearing people discuss martial law and no elections. I am discussing my husband not going into a government lab until he retires, hopefully soon. I see all government buildings as targets, and scientists particularly nuclear ones could be at risk. No sports stadiums, no concert halls, no airports (but I will probably be there anyway), no airplanes (though I have plans to fly to do transatlantic flying), and no going by Israeli or US consulates and embassies. There are probably a few more countries that will be added to the list.

When they talk about sleeper agents to be awakened so to speak, they are not including the people who will be radicalized by this action. Are we helped by Musk opening Starlink accounts for people in Iran, some people, not all. So which some? Troublemakers? I assume by doing this he is putting a big target on his head.

An Iranian cab driver who parks at a taxi stand near my house told me on Saturday that he was glad that the Mullahs are all gone. He also said, "who wants to live in a country run by religious men?" I know it is not me.

Expand full comment
Robert Eckert's avatar

"the Mullahs are all gone"??? That would make the news, I would think, if that happened.

Expand full comment
Linda Weide's avatar

Robert, my intel is an Iranian man who lives in Germany, that I say hi to each day. He parks his cab on my block. I am not claiming this is correct, I was trying to give his perception of the situation. I also know that he gets to listen to other news than we do since he knows Arabic. I do not.

Where would you be getting that information from reliably? I looked it up and all I found was a Yahoo News article on the Supreme Mullah being in hiding in a bunker. I know I had read the other day that the Ayatollah aka the top Mullah had gone to Qatar. All of that seems to be rumors.

I have no idea what is going on with the Mullahs, but this is the second Iranian I have heard from who lives abroad who wants all of the Mullahs gone. So, perhaps this is wishful thinking, but who is reporting much on the Mullahs? Most coverage is about Trump.

Expand full comment
Robert Eckert's avatar

If there were a new government we would hear about it. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. What we hear is that their Parliament voted to close the Straits of Hormuz and sent the bill to Ayatollah Khamenei for approval, that his foreign minister is in Russia and Medvedev (craziest of the Putinites) is saying Russia should send Iran some nukes, etc.

I am sure there are lots of Iranians who WISH the mullahs were all gone, but it certainly has not happened yet.

Thinking about it, IHnsHO, TACO Stupidday isn't going to order ground troops to Iran. He's going to order them to Los Angeles, and maybe somewhere on the east coast, like one of the NYC Burroughs. He'd much rather harass tax paying Dem registered voters than get soldiers killed in YA3WHH (Yet Another 3rd World Hell Hole).

Anyone check the MAGA approval rates of the TACO in Chief? Did he get the approval bump his tiny brain so desperate craves? Two weeks from now, we'll (the Lamestream media that is) have forgotten we were on the edge of Armageddon. So we moved some sand around in Iran (being deliberately ignorant here, like I was a Patriotic MAGA, since I have no clue what the real estate around Fordow looks like), Iran will have their centrifuges up and running in a week, if not now, and the hysterical chickens with their heads cut off will be wildly clucking from some other new illegal outrage committed by #47.

I was going to ask, What is it about Vance that is so particularly repellent? But I think I know. We know, from his education and his best-seller, that he's not a stupid person. So when he affects to sound intelligent, it's not, as it is with Trump, an obvious farce. So when he says, e.g., that previous presidents were "stupid," but (he implies) Trump is not, or he praises Trump's "instincts," we know that he knows that it's not only bullshit, but especially insulting to *our* intelligence.

Trump trying to sound smart is a buffoon. He says false things, we ascribe it to his boundless stupidity. But we at least assume he really believes them, to the extent that he really believes anything. On the other hand, when Vance says false things, it's not only a lie, but (as it were) a lie squared. He's not only saying things we know are false, but they're thing we know HE KNOWS are false, that he nonetheless believes (or pretends to believe) we'll accept. He insults, not only our sense of what's true versus false, but our more fundamental status as intelligent people, as opposed to MAGA morons.
