It was why the community I grew up in had such a high death rate early in the pandemic. It's now lower middle class Black with lots of people who work as grocery clerks and health care aides. Once the vaccine came out, the death rates plummeted there and all over Chicago, while they soared in downstate Illinois (the term "downstate" refers to everything outside the Chicago metro area) which is heavily MAGA and where people refused the vaccine.
