"Senate Committee Votes to Hold Fauci in Contempt of Congress"

https://www.nytimes.com/live/2026/08/06/us/trump-news-fauci?smid=nytcore-android-share

performative nonsense assholes. this is what they fixate on, when Donny's own nominees won't answer the question 'who won the 2020 election'

Wendy The Druid 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🌈's avatar

Meanwhile elsewhere, Jeff,

Donald Trump gets on Truth Social at midnight to announce that the reports about our munitions stockpile are completely false, and also that the leakers who leaked these completely false reports are "being hunted down" and will be seeking "long term jail sentences."

Let that sit with for a second. You cannot hunt down the leakers of a thing that never happened. There is no federal statute against the unauthorized disclosure of fiction. This shriveled orange gasbag confirmed the entire story in the same breath he denied it, because it was midnight and every adult on the comms payroll had gone home and nobody was left to wrestle the phone out of his tiny hands.

So meanwhile: CNN says we've burned through nearly 80% of the THAAD interceptors and half the Patriots. Reuters says "virtually all" of ATACMS and PrSM. the Payne Institute counted 11,300 munitions in sixteen days.

Fuck them.

https://thistleandmoss.com/p/what-survives-the-morning-like-oj-simpson-trump-is-going-to-find-the-real-leakers

Bill Corbett's avatar

Lawrence O'Donnell had Mark Hertling (Army LG) on last night and the numbers he gave for the cost of those weapons was staggering. Get you wallets out folks.

Norma's avatar

Saw that piece. The cost of these weapons is mind blowing 🤯

Bill Corbett's avatar

Yes, it is and what's really a mind fuck is we have wasted all these expensive weapons because Trump listened to BiBi and then told P Keg-stand to shoot away, and all they had to do is keep the JCPOA in place and not one of those weapons would have had to been used. So, all this turmoil and acting tough is reaching deeply into everyone's pockets across the globe and especially us.

Tess's avatar

Disgusting what happened in Louisiana… Your quote on “ordinary courtesy”…this should happen every damn day!

rlritt's avatar

There was a survey and the United States has roughly 120 to 121 civilian-owned firearms for every 100 residents. This rate far exceeds every other Western nation. For comparison, Western countries with high relative ownership like Canada have about 35 guns per 100 people, and Switzerland has about 28 per 100 people. We live is dumbest place in the world and we are armed. Fuck!

Marlene Lerner-Bigley (CA)'s avatar

I feel very sick now. We are our own worst enemy.

Joyce's avatar

Well, Putin would like it very much if the US could be totally disarmed. That makes Vlad's plans a helluva lot easier. Thanks, Agent Krasnow.

rlritt's avatar

They probably dont tell him the truth about anything. They tell him 2 seconds before he speaks to the press to say one sentence and then he goes off on some word salad that the press ignores.

Kay-El's avatar

I suggest the Senate Committee hold themselves in contempt for the contemptible way they spoke to Dr. Fauci

HI2thDoc's avatar

Dr. Fauci's a great scientist

Who rethugs have repeatedly dissed

Holding him in contempt

Is another taint-licking attempt

To keep Fat Fuck from being pissed

Richard's avatar

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Frosty McGillicuddy's avatar

Ewwwww, funny but gross!!!

Cheri Collins's avatar

Yes! For they are contemptable!

rlritt's avatar

This is so they don't have to actually govern.

Carol Blankenship's avatar

We can not move forward in this country with Trump and the Republicans . It’s always back to 2020. What morons.

Joyce's avatar

1620 if you're a woman and Smarmy Alito has any say in the matter.

Mary Brock's avatar

So you do not have the right to remain silent.

Stephanie Lajeskie's avatar

Only if your name is Trump.

Terri Nighswonger's avatar

This will be on my marching sign. Luv it!!!! 😘👍🥳

SethTriggs's avatar

Huh. You can get a Contempt of Congress for pleading the 5th, huh?

Yeah this was a predetermined outcome. This is what the unreconstructed party is elected for, they're here to hurt Americans, not actually legislate.

2Cats2Furious's avatar

And if Fauci hadn’t taken the Fifth, they would have scrutinized every word he uttered to try and claim that he perjured himself.

Not to mention that he has already testified to Congress about this topic dozens of times. The only “new” information were Fauci’s diary entries, which speak for themselves.

These fuckers need to leave Fauci alone.

HI2thDoc's avatar

This is just another example of the party of predator protectors crapping on the Constitution. What does the Fifth Amendment actually exist for, FFS?

SethTriggs's avatar

He's going to need a Norm Eisen or some other great constitutional lawyer to advocate for him. Because this is bullshit.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

This is WHY his lawyers advised him to take the 5th.

Marlene Lerner-Bigley (CA)'s avatar

Yep, that’s the plan per their guide and manual, Project 2025.

Stephanie Lajeskie's avatar

This is absolutely sickening. What they’re doing to this man is beyond unconscionable. And now I see anti-vaxxers taking victory laps all over social media. The damage these Trump sycophants are doing to this country will take generations to reverse.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Sadly, one of my best friends, who is NOT a MAGA, is one of those. Because she has complex medical conditions that probably DID give her complications from the vaccine, she believes there is a vast number of people — millions — who suffered from myocarditis and other "vaccine injuries." She was gloating about their persecution of Fauci and saying he was a mass criminal. I have to change the topic after simply saying I have gotten all my vaccines and suffered nothing except one I was a little tired for half a day after getting. I sympathize with my friend because she does have real, relatively unique, issues, but I have to keep reminding her that not everyone has her issues.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Most of the early dead from COVID had pre-existing conditions -- the same with cryptosporidium. People of all ages. And then it was coming for us all. The persecution of Dr. Fauci has me nauseated with contempt for these morons. I'm sorry any of them survived the pandemic.

Stephanie Lajeskie's avatar

Many of them survived the pandemic because of those who were vaccinated.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Who's next on these assholes' re-write-factual-history list? Jonas Salk for inventing the polio vaccine? People forget that many of the MAGA anti-vaxxers were begging to be given the vaccine on their deathbeds.

Kim Steeves's avatar

And when will we know for sure how many of these idiots ARE vaxxed, just like dear leader?

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Not entirely true. A lot of early casualties were due to unsafe, repeated exposure: the so-called "essential" workers who had to work in public. It was why the community I grew up in had such a high death rate early in the pandemic. It's now lower middle class Black with lots of people who work as grocery clerks and health care aides. Once the vaccine came out, the death rates plummeted there and all over Chicago, while they soared in downstate Illinois (the term "downstate" refers to everything outside the Chicago metro area) which is heavily MAGA and where people refused the vaccine. Too bad! Chicago metro, with 80% of the state's population, already easily outvotes them.

Miselle's avatar

Do those "complex medical conditions" have cognitive impacts?

Asking for a friend.

rlritt's avatar

Maybe we should have thought about the evolutionary benefit of not insisting people get vaccinated for Covid. Let the anti government deniers stay vaccine free. See how that works for them. And for us.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

I loved how that worked in Illinois. Early on some rural idiots insisted COVID was just a "Chicago problem" (hint of racism there?) so they shouldn't have to shut down their bars. Once the vaccine came out, death rates in Chicago plunged and eventually the highest toll by percentage was in red rural Illinois.

rlritt's avatar

I grew up on the North Side, but moved years ago to Southern California. The vaccine distribution was excellent. Very organized and free. I did get Covid on a trip to Las Vegas, but it was very mild and I spent almost all my time sitting in isolation on my deck while reading.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

I grew up in South Shore, which was very hard hit early on. It's not ultra-poor but it does have a lot of nursing homes and social services facilities, which spread Covid widely.

Margaret Carreiro's avatar

The Inquisition has arrived, only it's not a Monty Python script.

Stephen Brady's avatar

So which Government account do you suppose he charged his new rug to? You know he never pays for anything out of his own pocket if he can use OPM...

Tom Halstead's avatar

This Congress is clearly contemptible; they should give Dr, Fauci an award.

Abby From Maine's avatar

Remind me again how many times the orange magat pled the 5th!

P123Sunny's avatar

- run out that clock (so there’s no time to deal with the serious stuff)

- completely downplay everything questionable thing Rs are doing / have done

- connect NO dots

Cheryl from Maryland's avatar

If I were the Secretary of Defense, 1) I'd say nothing re the said reports on munitions stockpiles, 2) consider this an opportunity to up production of drones, 3) be pissed that the US is at odds with Ukraine, as they are the leaders in innovative drone production, so I want their expertise. But no, the reports will be denied, yet the GOP will want to up the DOD budget AGAIN.

bruce somers's avatar

Most people on the planet now have contempt of Congress,I'm phoning Rand Paul's neighbor for advice.

rlritt's avatar

I pulled this off a right wing website:

"Right-wing strategies to divide the Democratic Party typically involve amplifying existing ideological friction between progressives and moderates, focusing on wedge issues like foreign policy, crime, and economic approaches to strain the party's multi-coalitional base."

rlritt's avatar

But the Democrats could win every election as long as they stay united and form a solid block against fascism. But the Democrats thinks it best if we split the Democratic Party. I bet it was Steve Miller who came up with the idea of funding the Democratic Socialists. (who I agree with, but not to the extent that I want the Republicans to win.)

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

"Democrats" don't think that is best: the media does. They are totally in love with their "Democrats in disarray" narrative.

rlritt's avatar

If thats true then why did the Democrats split the Michigan senate primary. Polls show Haley Stevens winning the senate race against Mike Rogers the Republucan by 8 points. But El Sayed got lots of money to run against her and got the nomination. Polls show him losing to the Republican by by 5 pnts.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

It was a unique race, and both other candidates endorsed El-Sayed immediately meaning there his no intra-party "division." Unfortunately, El-Sayed has glaring pockets of weakness and it remains to be seen whether he can acquire enough Black and Jewish voters to win the general. I'm dubious, and think we should focus on more winnable races such as Sherrod Brown's in Ohio or even Talarico's in Texas.

Janet Friel's avatar

Where is Mitch McConnell?

Frank's avatar
2hEdited

Hell? Heaven? In a rehab center? Who cares? If he isn’t in the Capitol, he can’t cast a vote. He can’t be temporarily replaced with a Democrat by the Governor, only a Republican can take his place.

So the Republicans are short a vote and their margin has narrowed. That’s a net gain. Let’s leave well enough alone.

Stephanie Lajeskie's avatar

When you’re taking a multiple choice exam, they always tell you to narrow it down by eliminating the most unlikely answer. So I’m gonna strike out Heaven as one of the possibilities.

Derek Smith's avatar

Satan didn't want the competition, so where's Moscow Mitch?

Miselle's avatar

⬆️😮🎯🎯🎯‼️‼️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

rlritt's avatar

I've been saying that all along and getting yelled at for supporting Beshear. They think he isnt replacing McConnel with a Democrat because he is afraid. Where do come up with stupid ideas?

HI2thDoc's avatar

Did the Turtle Man go bye-bye

To that Great Shell in the Sky

Or as some wags allege

He is still just a veg

Either one is a big GOP lie

Terri Nighswonger's avatar

Yes where is the little fucker? I bet once convenient for their little plans, “Mitch has died peacefully in his sleep.”

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

he died doing what he loved: nothing

HI2thDoc's avatar

Obstructing the proper workings of government. He loved that and did it with aplomb and without remorse. Fuck him

Marlene Lerner-Bigley (CA)'s avatar

But he’s still getting a paycheck! Elaine is laughing all the way to the bank.

Joyce's avatar

She must wonder why she didn't think of this years ago. Melania's taking notes.......

Chris Hierholzer's avatar

Mitch is in freezer mode and trumps hair reminded me of Captain Kangaroo and his hair which was real. Long live 5th Avenue candy bars!

Suessl's avatar

Trump's Fallen souffle hair has been replaced by Muffin Top hair.

Bill Corbett's avatar

If he's dead, it certainly wasn't peaceful. He probably had something to do with Lindsey's passing too. Trump should think about that.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Who cares? As long as he's missing, they are down a vote.

Susan Niemann's avatar

I was going to ask the same thing!

john augustine's avatar

Either/or, soon he'll be singing with the Choir Infernal

He must be getting freezer burn by now as he's long past his expiration date.

In 2022, Trump pleaded the Fifth more than 450 times during a civil fraud investigation, but sure..let’s attack the doctor who was awarded a Presidential Commendation by Trump himself for his efforts during COVID. Release the rest of the Epstein files.

P123Sunny's avatar

(one more time):

IN 2022, tRUMP PLEADED THE FIFTH MORE THAN 450 TIMES DURING A CIVIL FRAUD INVESTIGATION.

*MORE THAN 450 TIMES*

dems could hammer this or nah…

P123Sunny's avatar

And another thing…

“Every time tRump asks a reporter “Who are you with?” Reporters need to answer “The United States of America. Who are you with sir?”.

😑🇺🇸

rlritt's avatar

But Trump can do no wrong. Does Fauci have the nerve to think that he deserves the same leeway?

Ann Anderson's avatar

Wig-gate (forgive me) is the story du jour and the first thing I thought was "I hope Jeff has seen this." Makeup, wigs, heels, purple satin shirts - the alpha males are struttin.

rlritt's avatar

I hope they didnt harm the the dog to get that hair.

Let's see...giving money to the people by taking it from corporations? Isn't that Socialistic Communism?

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

either that, or Communistic Socialism

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

His plan undoubtedly kills Medicaid and probably Medicare. It's a way to 600% deregulate the health care industry, so insurers can go back to denying claims based on pre-existing conditions, bilking customers, selling shit insurance policies that offer no coverage. It gets government out of healthcare and puts corrupt corporations like United Healthcare in charge.

Susan Niemann's avatar

"I named it the one big "

WHAT? 😂😂😂

The hair...lots of columns about that today. I hope they bury him in it.

Looks like Whiskey Pete is in trouble...we have no more missiles with which to defend this "great nation." He shot his wad and lied to the felon about it. Too busy doing personal testosterone checks. 😆 You cant make this shit up.
