I have to rant today. It's maddening that the current administration shut down NCAR, the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, CO, mothership of climate science. That happened last year -- Don the Con's retaliation on us after Tina Peters(R) was imprisoned for election interference. The building itself is an iconic landmark, sort of a modern castle in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. They even had art exhibits there. It's been lying fallow and untended. It was vandalized with swastikas over this past weekend. Concerned locals jumped right in and painted over it. The good news is that in June a federal court halted the plans to dismantle it, but only after Gov. Polis commuted Tina Peters' sentence and let her walk free.
My sister lives in Boulder. She worked for Greenpeace, and is losing her mind right now. How is Tina Peters more important than the entire city of Boulder??? We already know how this regime feels about the climate emergency. It's a priority of theirs to make sure the planet doesn't survive.

I have to rant today. It's maddening that the current administration shut down NCAR, the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, CO, mothership of climate science. That happened last year -- Don the Con's retaliation on us after Tina Peters(R) was imprisoned for election interference. The building itself is an iconic landmark, sort of a modern castle in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. They even had art exhibits there. It's been lying fallow and untended. It was vandalized with swastikas over this past weekend. Concerned locals jumped right in and painted over it. The good news is that in June a federal court halted the plans to dismantle it, but only after Gov. Polis commuted Tina Peters' sentence and let her walk free.
My sister lives in Boulder. She worked for Greenpeace, and is losing her mind right now. How is Tina Peters more important than the entire city of Boulder??? We already know how this regime feels about the climate emergency. It's a priority of theirs to make sure the planet doesn't survive.
I know people who worked at NCAR. It was a beautiful location and a beautiful building. Or course Trump had to try to wreck it.

The longer this goes on the more outrageous it is for the press to normalize this. I remember in the run-up to the 2024 election with the "eating the dogs" shit and the rambling magnet speeches, the unveiling of the EXACT FUCKING PLAN THEY IMPLEMENTED in Project 2025 (of which the SAVE act was a the keystone, because without that they will get thrown out) and media was all about yawns. It's a rotten terrible system. The cities around the world are planning for Day Zero when the water taps run dry, and the data centers are promising exactly 200 jobs (enough to generate interest but not enough to need to augment the school system) while fast-tracking the regulation and lying to get the things built. AI is not intelligent; an LLM merely predicts tokens, and the more garbage tokens there are the worse the results. It's yet another enshittified technology that had potential but was ruined by greed.
As we watch America slowly burn down, it's hard not to think we deserve our fate. The problem is that the people who are burning it will skate away. They'll have water. They'll have food. The rest of us? We're ancillary casualties who don't even get a mention.
We have the power, but we have to use it together. Doesn't seem we are capable of it.
