Thank you for this. Child sexual abuse is more rampant than has ever been acknowledged. With DNA analysis today, we are finding out just how many incest cases there are. Society has long denied the sexual predators among us and completely disbelieved women and men when they came forward with their allegations. Will opening the Epstein files turn the corner to supporting survivors instead of their predators? I sure hope so.
I hope so too, but we really needs to be looking at these religious institutions with tax exempt status who cover for and perpetrate heinous sexual acts against people in their congregations.
I agree with you. For too long, sexual predators in churches haven't been brought to justice. That said, the sexual abuse of children, teens, and adults is far more widespread than just in the churches. One would think that with all the press about Epstein and Maxwell, society (men) would try to root out the predators among themselves. I mean, look at how rapist athletes are protected at colleges and how women are shunned, belittled, and shamed. All so the star athlete can continue winning games. Justice Kavanaugh, anyone? He wasn't an athlete, but he did prey on women. Men in the Senate doubted the survivors' accusations, and now we have two sexual predators on the Court (Thomas and Kavanaugh). We need to believe survivors so the predators can be held accountable and serve lengthy jail sentences.

Elizabeth, I agree with you. I myself am a victim of a pedophile from when I was 5. My best friend was a year older and her father sexually molested me as a child until my parents found out. My father sent someone to scare her family and they moved and next time I went there they were gone. They had moved and she was no longer in my school. I even knew where her father worked because he took us to his office and we used those Dixie cups to drink water from a cooler there that we thought was cool. Of course I missed her, but she has been mostly forgotten in my life. So has he and her mom whose depravity I generally do not think about. Epstein has of course been bringing up all of these memories in my mind. I really had forgotten, even when looking up these articles, until someone recommended that I read Viriginia Giuffre's books.

Patrick, A former friend spend a lot of her life with predators living in their house preying on her parents, who were "God fearing" Iowans, after their son was snatched from a Boy Scout camping trip. Society has long denied the sexual predators among us and completely disbelieved women and men when they came forward with their allegations. Will opening the Epstein files turn the corner to supporting survivors instead of their predators? I sure hope so.

I agree with you. For too long, sexual predators in churches haven't been brought to justice. That said, the sexual abuse of children, teens, and adults is far more widespread than just in the churches. One would think that with all the press about Epstein and Maxwell, society (men) would try to root out the predators among themselves. I mean, look at how rapist athletes are protected at colleges and how women are shunned, belittled, and shamed. All so the star athlete can continue winning games. Justice Kavanaugh, anyone? He wasn't an athlete, but he did prey on women. Men in the Senate doubted the survivors' accusations, and now we have two sexual predators on the Court (Thomas and Kavanaugh). We need to believe survivors so the predators can be held accountable and serve lengthy jail sentences.

Elizabeth, I agree with you. I myself am a victim of a pedophile from when I was 5. My best friend was a year older and her father sexually molested me as a child until my parents found out. My father sent someone to scare her family and they moved and next time I went there they were gone. They had moved and she was no longer in my school. I even knew where her father worked because he took us to his office and we used those Dixie cups to drink water from a cooler there that we thought was cool. Of course I missed her, but she has been mostly forgotten in my life. So has he and her mom whose depravity I generally do not think about. Epstein has of course been bringing up all of these memories in my mind. I really had forgotten, even when looking up these articles, until someone recommended that I read Viriginia Giuffre's books.

Patrick, A former friend spend a lot of her life with predators living in their house preying on her parents, who were "God fearing" Iowans, after their son was snatched from a Boy Scout camping trip. Actually, he and 2 other boys disappeared before the group actually left on the trip when they were all gathered together waiting to leave. They were never found, but so called psychics would contact her parents and then move in with them, and took over the room she shared with her sister and they had to move to the basement.

The first election I remember vividly was Kennedy's and I remember ALL the Democratic primary candidates because I wrote a little song about them in grade school: "Kennedy and Symington are eating cranberries. Johnson! Humphrey! Stevenson! Eating cranberries!!!" (What was that about? This campaign "issue" back in the halcyon days of 1959 was about whether a cranberry bog had been contaminated with a chemical and the candidates were trying to prove they were safe. Truman was POTUS when I was born. I liked Ike and he was elected in 1952. I didn't like his VP, a brash young Senator from California named Dick Nixon. I have Margaret Truman's book on her father. I remember everything.

I loved when, departing the plane, one of the guys stopped and saluted Obama. Brought me to tears.

The audio was even better... when one of the vets recognized Obama's voice, you could hear this "What???" in the background. A beautiful, meaningful thing for the President to do. If we could do away with the two-term restriction, I know who I'd vote for.
If Dumpy can get away with running for a third term in 2028, then so should Pres. Obama.
I miss the professionalism class and decency of Obama. But at least the felon is in the Epstein emails.

Megan, I have been too! And you are so right ... you have to practice every day. I'ver been using the 10 minute Spanish app and Babel. I've memorized a few phrases that help me along (via Google Translate) especially: Estoy aprendiendo espanol. I am learning Spanish. They nod their head and seem to appreciate that I'm trying!
Let rent an apartment in Santander together. I'm going there to check it out. I adore Spain. A non lucrative Visa for one year should tell me if it could be my forever home. The vibe, the people, the history, the art...not to mention the food. I'm in love. 😍

Huh? That’s not what I said.
These are more of the dividends of Murc's Law...even people who are retired Presidents like Obama act (and are responsible to) as actual human beings. And of course, those of us who protested Iraq War 2.0 always remember what "Support the Troops" really means. It just means that they're the shield these fascists hide behind when they wanna crack some skulls of people who oppose their resource-grabbing wars.
And it's not even limited to the politicians; trash organizations like the NFL do this same thing and it makes me sick given how little the NFL cares about the safety of its players. Just to help shield them from some criticism by wrapping themselves in the flag.
