We have housing crisis. For many people getting a home is unaffordable, or borderline unaffordable. Trump just raisde prices on lumber and cement from Canada. Large American corporation will match the new higher Canadian prices, as that will be more profitable. When supply goes down, and demand is steady, prices go up. So demand has to go down to lower prices. That translates into people building less, fewer homeowners renovating, ergo fewer jobs in the construction industry and more unemployment.
Have any of the idiots who defend capitalism and also tariffs read Adam Smith or David Riccardo? Do they have a clue that one of the pillars of capitalist theory is the concept of comparative advantage? Of course not. It is all part of the general degradation of the US economy back towards mercantilism and governance towards monarchy.
I would love for anyone in the administration to provide the sum total of tariffs collected, and show how any of that money put into the US treasury has directly helped any individual Americans struggling to pay the increased prices generated by the tariffs.
