Jesse Watters, who has a show on Fox, who is one of the dumbest motherfuckers you will ever see, said big whup. We've all texted the wrong person. My note to him:

Dear Mr. Watters,

I listened with great interest to your comments about the texts sent to the editor of the Atlantic. Yes, indeed, we have all sent texts to the wrong person - but not texts that contained

CLASSIFIED INFORMATION that could have endangered our military servicemen.

I sometimes think about how dumb you are, how remarkable it is that someone as obviously challenged as you could have a TV show. Then I think about the people who watch you and think you have something valuable to say.

You, your viewers and Fox are the reason we can't have nice things. You're the reason we are not safe.

Have a great day. Read a book if you're able.

Meanwhile, I attended a meeting of European activists online this evening, and they were talking about the US as if it is a country that used to exist. And, part of that was that they hardly mentioned it except to say no one would be looking at the US again as a model of something to strive. There was also a worry that Trump and Russia are promoting right wingers and Musk is funding them and giving them a platform to spread their disinformation.

In a law firm, accidentally including an opposing attorney in an e-mail to a client is an all-hands-on-deck damage control event, where people do worry about their continued employment. Texting attack plans to a journalist on an unsecure app? For these guys, no big deal.

Expand full comment
Anne Whitney's avatar

I worked in law yrs ago in Boston and remember when two attys were discussing a case on the train and were overheard by someone client-adjacent. There was a very thorough combing through staff to discuss the matter and stern words issued for all employees to remember they aren't always in private space and everything client or firm related was confidential. With cell phones I think people don't even realize anymore what private space means or that they are blabbing about their hemorrhoids in public.

Douglas, approx 3 years ago, Rachel Maddow reported that her team had been given a hot tip on an unreported story. Following protocol, they attempted to verify facts in order to report it out. No one else had reported it, not

a whisper. Days passed. Rachel & staff moved heaven and Earth, but they simply could not verify enough to meet reporting standards.

Weeks passed after the unverified story was shelved.

Rachel later reported to her viewers, especially other news outlets, that it was a fake news tip. Rachel called out the "anonamous sender", saying bad actors had attempted to discredit her when she ran with the fake "hot tip". She clearly warned other news outlets be aware, as she believed this was an attempt to discredit her show.

The people who work closely with him who can manipulate him are the key staffers (Miller in particular) carefully put in place to watch him and only give him instructions that they can cleverly convince him are his ideas to execute.

Right now, he's bothering the economy, issuing EO's that may affect 2026 elections, distracting the public - while they are playing war games on their mobile devices using an app that they think is easier to access than the ones under FEDRAMP that are so not user-friendly and definitely uncool.

I don't think Republicans understand how lucky they were that it was Jeffrey Goldberg who was accidentally included, instead of a reporter who would have jumped on the texts and shared them with the world right away. Goldberg, after figuring out that the texts really were from members of the Dumpy administration, kept quiet, watched as events unfolded, and even when he did reveal that he'd been included, didn't say anything that would have revealed specifics about military units or means of intelligence collection. I think he was a hero, revealing incompetence in Dumpy's cabinet. I'm sure Republicans are concentrating on how this beenefits Goldberg's career. And it is a scoop. Totally agree, Betsy. But that won't stop Pam Bondi from "investigating" JG and prosecuting him as hard as the courts allow her to.

In the "Donny knows nothing" clip, it's pretty interested to see how affectless President Twaddles' expression is: a complete shut-down of cognition. Apparently he engages only when his brainstem is firing in grievance/anger/hostility/self-promotion mode, and even then in a way that is borderline incoherent at best.

It's a remarkably degenerate and stunted form of "thought", on top of his rampant behavioral disorders. No psych exam would ever clear this man for a real job, let alone an executive position. Has there ever been made a better case for invoking the 25th Amendment?
