I thought I could handle this post, all the crazy, that shit I’d been seeing and shaking my head at, all of the bitter insanity and loofah-scrubbed batshittery… and then you showed us President Obama visiting a Children’s Ward. And I lost it.

Thanks, Jeff, and may this year bring more light, more laughs, more love, more hope.

This is some good news today:

The Dummy Despot’s plan to build his massive, privately funded White House ballroom faces its first public scrutiny January 8 via a National Capital Planning Commission meeting.

There are also lawsuits happening against it as well.

Process is kryptonite for authoritarians. So this is a win.

Permian Extinction's avatar

My other Christmas wish is that he is forced to restore and rebuild it with the donated money. Any other fines, punishments or executions are just extra.

PEACE, LOVE, RESIST's avatar

I would LOVE IT if they made him remove those ridiculous plastic gold ornaments from the walls of the White House. And the hate plaques under the presidential portraits. At some point, there needs to be a line in the sand where presidents can’t deface historical walls or in the case of the east wing, demolish them.

Lynn Van Haren's avatar

Every other President knew that, just not the mad King

A.J. Madison's avatar

Yet again, we have an example of someone needed to tell the Mad Diaper-load King, Fuck No! Stop!

You can't just demolish the East Wing because it stands in the way of your grand ballroom. Get this into your tiny brain, there are architectural details that are way older than your flabby ass. You can still have your ballroom but you have to carefully dismantle the more than 100 year old history in the East Wing. There are doors, trim, windows, that need to be preserved.

But NOOOO! Morons and idiots said, "Yupper! Taking a back hoe to a building with a gazillion years of history." May none of them ever get work above flipping burgers in a McDonald's wanna-be.

PEACE, LOVE, RESIST's avatar

A lot of unspoken rules no one else had a problem with need to be made law so dictators have legal guardrails.

Robert Eckert's avatar

A lot of spoken rules were made law, and he disregarded those too.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

Maybe Trump is our "line in the sand"? Dear America: This is what happens when the Supreme Court majority is anti-democracy, the mainstream media are controlled by mega-corporations, campaign finance regulations are a joke, civics education is nonexistent or inadequate in many places, and too many white people can't accept that the Constitution applies to people of color. What are we going to do about it?

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

FIRST, begin with the premise that there is no 'maybe' about it. He WAS the line in the sand during his first horrid 'administration'. NOW that we're living under his wanna-be full-on Nazi REGIME, everything is on the table: We MUST go back to a 13 Supreme Court made up of a BALANCED group of THINKING HUMANS (like our minority 3) who work with each other to decide cases instead of a top-heavy UBER-conservative/easily-bought group of 6 to 3 who OWE their drunken-SA'er/Uber-religiousity/rich grifting/Ultra-racism TO the toddler in the White House. That's only for starters but will go a long way to beginning our road back to NORMALCY. (Thank you for your attention to this matter. EGS). ;)

Marlene Lerner-Bigley (CA)'s avatar

My Chrismanukkah wish is that he wanders off in the middle of the night, falls into the crevice of what used to be the East Wing, and disappear forever.

Peg's avatar

My wish for him is that he goes out like Elvis, sitting on his golden shitter, with a Big Mac stuck in his anus-shaped mouth.

Dave Drell's avatar

he almost walked off the roof!

Damn!

Marlene Lerner-Bigley (CA)'s avatar

Oh yeah, that’s right!

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

I do like that scenario, but can you imagine the conspiracy theories that would result??

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

Fuck 'em. They'll create conspiracy theories no matter what so who cares. It'll be the new 'ghost story' of the renewed East Wing which I'd love to see having videos playing to the touch (for visitors) of those wonderful First Ladies who visited Hospitals, worked with children, worked in gardens with kids, were hugged and greeted by kids from all around OUR Country as well as from poor Countries around the World. There'd be an abundance of film from the likes of Rosalyn, Hillary, Eleanor, Michelle, Jill, even Barbara. Perhaps a glimpse or two of someone named 'melanie'? under a huge hat which came halfway down her face with a very heavy accent talking AT kids somewhere. After a few years, no one would have the remotest idea who she was, but they'd assuredly recognize all of the other decent women.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

I LOVE Chrismanukkah AND the rest of your 'wish'. I like 'crevice' too - since lard-ass will undoubtedly be stuck long enough for the fuckwits to be unable to find OR rescue him though undoubtedly his screams will be heard for miles around, scaring even the birds. Sadly, no sharks in those crevices.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

I *love* this idea. Talk about poetic (and democratic, and economic) justice!

Elliot Blinder's avatar

Hope the Court makes him rebuild the old East Wing as it was. Maybe that'll give him something constructive to do for a change.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

To be REAL, he doesn't and hasn't built ANYTHING! Contractors and architects, REAL builders and designers have - all this grifter has ever done is slap his fake name on something once a Bank approved a LOAN he finagled AND which he never repaid OR ever paid those same architects, contractors, builders, designers, etc. NONE of those ideas by this self-described 'aesthetic person' were ever his. HE'S a gaudy, trashy moron from Queens, NY who copied his mommy's 'style'. Have any of you ever SEEN photos of her? It's HER huge SWOOP of a heavily-sprayed hairdo, awful clothes, fur coats and jewelry he apes. Her makeup looked as though it was spackled on by an undertaker and her hair - OMG, it looked welded into place. There was nothing remotely 'aesthetic' about her OR him. He's a lifelong mama's boy and cowardly bully (all bullies are cowards). The REAL story of what he is has still not been told. Underneath he is in constant panic in case someone/anyone let's it all slip. WHEN it comes out - just remember that you read it here on Jeff's substack.

celeste k.'s avatar

I lost it, too. But I'm not sure if it was just tears of joy, love and inspiration, or whether I just long for that love and goodness again in our government and in our country. Probably both.

Happiness in the New Year to all!

Dina's avatar

You just articulated exactly how I felt watching the clip of Obama. I miss him so much, and just seeing again what a great human being he is made me both happy and sad for what we've lost.

The little kid with the glasses who was so excited to see him and then appeared to be crying happy tears getting a hug from him...that's what really sent me.

Ole Anderson's avatar

Can I join all of you who teared up seeing President Obama and who miss him. I hope we have another real president like him very soon.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

The nasty comments beneath that post are saddening. So many miserable people, MAGAs who obviously have internalized Trump's own misery.

BDBoop's avatar

Oh no. Just enjoy the joy. Never read the comments. x

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

I read them AND commented because the first posts echo what WE feel here. Until the magats/bots caught on, there was nothing but pure joy and admiration for the man who brought US that same feeling. Trust me - he does that and the magats can't handle knowing they will NEVER FEEL IT from the orange rat bastid they've tied themselves to. That first glimpse of President Obama in a simple sweater with a silly Santa hat and that SMILE had already filled me full of joy - I knew what was to come would be even better. I KNEW frump's worshipers would be so jealous/envious they would have to be enraged by how good he made the folks in that Hospital feel, especially the kids. They worked so hard to bring him down for EIGHT FULL YEARS and even before, but couldn't. We STILL love that man. Think about that. It's glorious.

BDBoop's avatar

The way every single face lights up when they see him. <3

Dina's avatar

Seriously, that's what had me in tears—how happy people are when he walks in a room. If he ever gave me a hug they'd have to pry me away from him, ha ha!

BDBoop's avatar

You can tell. Both him and Biden give the best, heartfelt hugs.

Lois Henry's avatar

Don’t forget,he’s also really good looking!

Leslie Black's avatar

Definitely! When I first looked at the post, I thought it was a picture of young President Obama.

DJS's avatar

Me too! I realized it was the hat hiding his grey hair.

Frank Nuts's avatar

His beauty is from within. He could physically look like a troll and still be one of the most beautiful people you’ve ever seen

Lisa K. Obrien's avatar

Girl. Remember when he began singing ‘Amazing Grace’ and every woman lost it? He is just that charismatic in every way ❤️

Lois Henry's avatar

I lost it when he sang that sexy, “I’m…so-o in love with you”. My socks were sweaty.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

It wasn't only women! Every man there felt connected to him when he began that deeply respectful song, knowing his voice wasn't 'the best', so they could feel free to sing too. You are telling on YOUR-self Lisa, LOL. (Just teasing) ;)

Diane J's avatar

I know you have to be talking about Obama and not the walking ad for not eating Big Macs.

A.J. Madison's avatar

Haven't eaten a Big Mac in nearly 20 years. Once upon a time, McD's toasted both sides of the club section. Made for a crispy & savory sandwich, something special and a step above a mere hamburder. Instead, the corporate cheapskates have toasted only one side of the club section for decades, creating a soggy mess that makes for just another gooey burger that you don't dare eat with the wrapper removed. Ruined the Big Mac for me, and I spend my precious fast food dollars on meals & sandwiches far more deserving.

arne link's avatar

He just radiates good will. How we miss him.

Peaceful Mary T.'s avatar

OMG, so true! I'm 72 yrs old and drooling like a teenager! LOL!

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

Apart from that - it's his WARMTH and the pure joy he emanates. He's a purely good human being as is Michelle. They went through hell on earth from the magat cultists but had to keep 'stiff upper lips' while living in the White House (does anyone realize THAT is a big reason the uber-racist frump is trying to tear it ALL down?) They are fucking SAINTS for being able to withstand what their family was put through AND to still be who they are: decent, good, loving and deeply compassionate people who still manage to put others over themselves. Michelle's books grab you by the throat about what it was REALLY like. I pay so little attention to his looks, other than the joy and humanity I see emanating from his face. I LOVE them together and with their daughters, so while - yes, he IS a most attractive man, he's off-limits so I don't think along those lines. :) It's why I've always had good men married or not, as close friends, with or without their spouses.

SethTriggs's avatar

I wish we had that kind of thing back. Instead it's a daily airing of grievances from the dotard at the top.

I hope for happiness for you all!

Call me a dreamer!

SethTriggs's avatar

I love that song! Thank you for the sentiment.

Paula Dean's avatar

I'm still in tears.

BDBoop's avatar

Hugs. It's been quite the decade. Even when Biden was in office, even when we knew Kamala would win - we still had that ugly demon hanging over us all. Never shutting up. Always with the lies.

You probably needed a good cry. I know I did.

Dina's avatar

That was what made me feel so bad for Old Handsome Joe, his entire presidency was under that dark cloud of that fucking guy always bleating about something, jostling his way to the top of the news every damn day. All of Joe's good work often went unknown because of Fat Joffrey, who would then turn around and take credit for it. Herr Poopenführer can't stroke out fast enough for me.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

Here's hoping that works as an inoculation! But, since the U.S. is famous for its selective amnesia, it probably won't. I do wonder if the GOP will survive, and if it does, what will it look like. For the younger ones, we elders need to keep getting the word out! I keep remembering: WW2 ended only six years before I was born, but to me it might have been ancient history. My father, WW2 Army noncom vet (North Africa & Italy), never talked about it -- till we bonded over Joseph Heller's brilliant novel CATCH-22.

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

None of my family members ever talked about their service in WWII except the uncle who was stationed in Duluth Mn. The others either parachuted in, or landed on a bloody beach. You do have a point… bonding over Catch 22 is an amazing story altogether!

Hollie Rood's avatar

Aww thank you so much . I love this community and appreciate all the best wishes which have really helped especially as the tumor was successfully removed but it appears the cancer has spread by her kidney and arteries around it. The surgeon didn’t want to remove anything more in order not to cause damage, especially to the arteries. We’re now waiting to see just how far past the tumor it actually grew vs what they removed. It’s supposed to take 5-7 days for those margin results to come back, but I’m not sure bc of New Years coming up. 🙏for sooner rather than later. After the results come back, oncology will determine whether chemo or radiation is the best treatment.

Thank you again for your supportive words. Best wishes to you and yours for 2026. Lets hope it will be the year of #2547 🙂‍↔️

For the Righties, lack of empathy is a feature, not a bug. Yesterday there was a heartbreaking story in WAPO about a terrified immigrant family in New Orleans being hunted by ICE, when all they want to do in life is raise their kids to be good people. I often enjoy the comments in WAPO, but this story attracted the meanest, nastiest people ever. Not one shred of empathy. Yes, they must have a certain deadness inside. No wonder they adore Trump. He validates them.

David M Marko's avatar

The one thing I have always said is that Trump didn't create MAGAots. They were always there. He just enabled them to come out of the shadows and embrace their bigotry, racism and mysogyny.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

But they weren't in the shadows during Jim Crow, and in my teenage years (the 1960s) I watched them on TV as they screamed at Black children trying to go to school. Then they staged a big comeback during the Reagan years: the Republicans fed racist meat to "the base" while gutting unions and gifting the mega-rich with tax breaks. My worst fear at the moment is that many, many white USians will think this all started with Trump. Black USians know better.

We referred to that as 'trump derangement syndrome' but they confused the syndrome with those opposed to his most vile tendencies. WHEN he died and everything he'd touched with him, everything he'd ruined was removed from the People's White House and that venerable building was restored to its former historical glory. That must've been one helluva drug he dropped before he beat the shit out of Santa. I think he got into Donnie Demento's stash, 'cause that whole hallucination sounded straight out of Truth Social. All he was missing were the sharks and batteries.

“AI pics I had a blast designing with my kids.” What a nut job. Sad for the kids.

Susan Niemann's avatar

Seriously. What kind of decent parent does this? It’s a cult.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

EXACTLY what I thought - who the FUCK inflicts their hate onto their kids? Oh wait, I know.

Kay-El's avatar

Because the hate is what passes for humor. 🙄

Susan Niemann's avatar

I just can’t even…. 🤦‍♀️

Douglas Paul Truhlar's avatar

Kay, did you notice how the sun came out with just a few minutes of the beloved Prez Obama, people crying for happy, singing with joy solidly around the room? Dopey don couldn’t do that to this group or in any hospital certainly not his own maggots.

arne link's avatar

He could bring joy to a hospital room, if he were in there dying.

Back in the 80s, I had a friend (from NY) and we both knew the same irritating guy from IN... he would shake his head and say "They grow 'em strange in Indiana".

DJ Headthrob's avatar

Wow, there ain't enough diagnoses in the DSM to cover this guy. Most mental health professionals will tell you that the lack of a sense-of-humor is a sure sign of sociopathology. Not to mention ANY form of genuine self-awareness. The man is like Ebenezer Scrooge himself, left alone in the school during the Christmas recess. Let's add chronic Anhedonia to his list of maladies. What will continue to puzzle me until I join the Choir Everlasting is how ANYONE, Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu or Druid, could find ONE thing to admire (or even respect) about this man.

Bob's avatar

There will be a DSM supplement devoted to his pathology.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

We need a volume on the collective pathology of the raging sickos who boosted him into celebrity status, then into the highest public office in our nation.

Pam Humphrey's avatar

Can’t wait to see my senator, John Cornyn, try to cover his Dimwit Donald suck ups. The man’s so out of touch, he’s been running ads touting his “perfect” record “working” with Trump. He’s airing them on MSNBC, when Rachel Maddow is on! Looking forward to his reaction when Jasmine Crockett kicks his flabby butt in the ‘28 election.

We will be supporting JC from here in NJ. We absolutely love her energy and no nonsense attitude.

Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

'THEY' are using EVERY vile racist trope against her, including calling her 'ghetto' (an attorney who earned every bit of her way and who knows more about the law than his entire regime's 'cabinet' put together!) I love Jasmine and so hope the people in that district fight like hell for her!

Bob's avatar

Does seem they’re beyond the usual cult members. His advisers and Cabinet officers are just unethical opportunists, looking to make quick money.

DJ Headthrob's avatar

It's gonna fascinating watching them backtrack after he goes to his infernal reward.

Bob's avatar

Especially GOP members of Congress.

Mark Burnett has a LOT to answer for! He produced that uber-stupid apprentice show - then turned it into 'celebrity' apprentice AND KNEW the entire time that frump was incapacitated/incapable of doing anything other than blurting out 'you're fired' (all of this courtesy of one who was there and talked about the faked-up office because frump's real office was SO cheap and crappy, made up of rented, beat-up horrible furniture, awful smell and the 'wet-wipes' guy). Mark Burnett has held onto the tapes AND the out-takes AND those showing every single bit of the RACIST, BIGOTED and ANTI-SEMITIC spewing, the vile outbursts from frump YET has kept them under lock and key while refusing to allow them to see the light of day. Anyone have ANY guess why? I have no idea, unless by now he's been made a trillionaire?

DJ Headthrob's avatar

Hell, there will be an entire TEXTBOOK, if not branch of Abnormal Psychology.

James Stanley's avatar

That "do you have a boyfriend" was too realistic, I had to fact check it. That's how insane that freak is.

Joyce's avatar

I thought the initial reports of his phone calls with children were someone's mockery of him.....and then I found out it all really did happen. It was all mockery, but not the funny kind that comes from SNL, or Gavin Newsom, or Jeff: it was the mockery Demento's existence makes of the nation every time he draws a breath.

arne link's avatar

Is it actually true? Jeebus!

James Stanley's avatar

no, but after seeing the phone call videos of his inappropriate yammering about "clean coal" and "infiltrating santa", I thought he might've actually said this
