Biden has a lot on the road ahead. My dad went through tx for a less aggressive form - the testosterone killer really did a number on him and he's never quite recovered from that. My maternal grandfather died of this type of cancer - granted, that was 35 years ago - but he was 79 when he was diagnosed and died within 6 months.

Thankfully, thanks to RESEARCH, Pres Biden will have a much better chance. It's horrible of me to say, but I wish Trump would have go through this. Maybe he wouldn't be so quick to quash research if it affected him personally.

Pardon me but I have to explode. With the trump regime imploding, the only way corp media can save him is by making it about Biden. Joe Biden aged appreciably in office. But that is because he busted his ass running himself ragged trying and largely succeeding in addressing crisis after crisis after crisis. All the while suffering the fear of a father who went to hell and back to save his remaining beloved son from a horrible addition, only to see the maga cult of cruelty doing everything they could to put his son in prison for decades. And hurting while his son and wife and baby had to sneak out in the middle of the night to move elsewhere after being maliciously doxed. Joe Biden busted his ass for Jake Fucking Tapper and his family and their progeny like he did for all of us. But that is irrelevant because Jake Tapper wants the spotlight. Jake Tapper is incapable of shame or guilt. But if there is a circle in hell where one is made to feel shame and guilt for eternity, that is where the FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT belongs. This is exactly on target. Tapper's pulling nearly the same shit as the 'tell all' books about Donald v.1--Bolton, for instance: telling us after the fact how awful Donnie Demento's 1st term was didn't do us much good, since none of the profiteers let us know about the exteent of the shit at the time it was happening. Tapper waits until Biden is out of office and there's absolutely no chance he's running again to write and publish his book: to what point right now, when the country is in mortal danger? My suspicion is that Tapper's motive is exactly what's happening now--every single news story about Biden's diagnosis includes a lengthy discussion of the book's claims: Tapper has set it up perfectly so that, while Donnie Demento tears apart the US, Biden's legacy is tarnished, even erased: everyone can chatter about how "mentally and physically unfit for office" Biden is (again--ignoring the fact he's not in office and will not be). I can't even imagine how delighted Tapper is to have learned of President Biden's diagnosis, so he can push his book sales and his agenda--with the cooperation of every other MSM outlet. He needs his face slapped so hard it should send him into the middle of next week.

Per my internet search: “ The use of "doctor" to denote someone with a PhD or doctorate stems from the Latin word "docere," which means "to teach" or "a scholar". Historically, the term "doctor" was associated with those licensed to teach at universities, a license called "licentia docendi". This title was initially reserved for those in the Church who taught and interpreted the Bible, and later extended to academics who held the highest level of academic achievement, the doctorate”.

Expand full comment
longtimebirdwatcher's avatar

Um, according to the British interpretation, a doctor is a professional person, not a member of the upper class who has furthered his education. Harvard likes (d?) to follow the British standard. Ph.D. stands for Doctor of Philosophy. My father proudly stood by Mr. (Master) which indicated he did not (!) work for a living... My father taught at Rutgers and Berkeley, and he wanted to be addressed and Mr., or in a pinch, Professor. Dr., never. Since my degree is from Berkeley in Classics, I never dreamed of calling my professors Dr. Many of them were English, anyway, so Mr. was perfectly acceptable in the Sixties and Seventies. In my family, Dr. was a deflation/inflation of title, trying to impress ignorant people. Just saying...

Expand full comment
Celine's avatar

In American universities, it is routine in academic settings to refer to people with earned doctorates as Doctor. Some professors are fine being addressed as professor, others as doctor, and others by their first name. Different universities and different departments within them are more or less formal depending on their backgrounds and history. There's nothing rigid about it, but it certainly isn't used as a bragging point to impress ignorant people.

No one with an academic doctorate is hoping they will be mistaken for a medical doctor and certainly would never pretend to be one. British practices are irrelevant to American ones.

Also, in the US, you don't have to be upper class to further your education. (?) Even middle and working class people can climb the ladder of academe as far as they desire and are able.

Dr. Biden has never pretended at all that she has anything other than an earned academic doctorate, she is proud of it, and she has a right to use the title.

In Canada, the use of Doctor is attached to people who’ve earned a PhD, D.Phil or a doctorate. I worked for 30+ years in an organization akin to your Science Foundation and when researchers were invited from other countries to sit on our peer review committees, they were addressed as Dr. I never encountered anyone who insisted that they be called anything else but the term Dr., even in retirement.

I have friends who’ve earned a PhD, D.Phil or doctorate from either the US or the UK and they are addressed as Dr. in a formal setting. They are never referred to by Mr. Ms. or Mrs.

People no longer understand that usage of "of": government "of" the people means that the people are the ones being governed ("by" the people: the people are also the ones doing the governing; and "for" the people: the people are the ones in whose interest the governing is done). What we have is government of all the rest of us, by the grievance-babies, for the grievance-babies: it is being done to all of us, by them, for their own interests only.

Trump’s rage tweets at 1am are the political equivalent of throwing mashed potatoes at the wall and calling it governance. Springsteen calls him a tyrant, so now Bruce is part of a deep state cabal funded by Kamala and Beyoncé? Sure, Donny. And Elvis is hiding in Hunter’s laptop.

This isn’t “madman theory.” It’s Grievance Goblin cosplay.

Meanwhile, his treasury guy says “uncertainty” is a strategy. That’s not leadership—it’s economic terrorism in a MAGA hat.

And the media speculating on the “timing” of Biden’s cancer? Hell isn’t hot enough for that take.

Bruce sings truth. Trump screams into the void. One is an artist. The other is a tantrum with subpoenas.

Stay grounded. Stay loud.

If there's anyone who knows about "CORRUPT & UNLAWFUL ways to capitalize on a broken system," it is the Orange Mad King. As usual, his entire riff was another projection about the deepest abyss of his dark soul.

Ludwig’s corpse is resting easier tonight. The “Mad King” crown has passed. Too arcane a reference? Mebbe.
