today in Shit That Happened While I Was Busy Writing This Shit—
CNN's gotten their grubby mitts on a draft of that secret peace thingie with Iran, and lo and behold, it doesn't say shit about Iran forking over its uranium
We will never leave the Straits of Schrödinger. All because he was upset a Black man made a competent deal. Anything Black people created or achieved, must be destroyed, must be hidden...the bigots who voted for him wish for that.
I'm thinking about all the people who were invited but didn't show up for the stupid UFC cage match on the orange menace's birthday. Tomorrow is the grand opening of the Obama Presidential Library. Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Bono and The Edge from U2, Christina Aguilera, John Legend, Common, Marc Anthony, are all appearing. The trump presidential library will be gold and tacky and cold and probably almost always empty. Obama has created a real community center with the library. A Chicago Public Library branch, a museum, a playground, and I heard a basketball court. It will be a giant draw.
NO NO NO! Just FALSE! No, the Obama Presidential Center campus—including the Chicago Public Library branch, playgrounds, gardens, and athletic facilities—is free and open to everyone with no ticket required. An admission fee is only charged for the four-floor Museum, and the Obama Foundation offers free and discounted Museum admission to low-income visitors and service members.
Just the museum has an admission fee; have to pay for the upkeep and operations costs. It only costs a nickel more than Reagan's library and a penny more than Nixon's.
But it's free for Illinois residents on Tuesdays, discounted for Illinois residents always, and free for low-income folks.
The library branch is free; it's Chicago Public Library, which we didn't have a branch of down this way (I live a couple of blocks from the center; the Blackstone branch is more toward Kenwood than Woodlawn). There's a forum where there will be events, and the community can book space. The basketball court and fitness center is free to the public. And there's a community garden on the roof of the Forum.
There *are* some feelings in the community about why he chose Jackson Park rather than Harold Washington Park several blocks west, which really could have used the development. But Obama wanted to have the center near the lake.
You have a good point. It is in a poor neighborhood and there is an admission fee. Free admission on Tuesdays.
If I were running things I'd scale the admission fee to zip code with a cap at what the current charge is.
I do think it will be a boon to the area but unfortunately has also drawn real estate investors who bought properties on speculation that property values would increase.
I can understand a small admission fee, and thanks to DumbDumbDon trashing the economy, I'd advocate for some kind of discount for those on a budget, like described above. When the Kennedy Library opened, people were so fond of the former President, they wanted something, anything of his, so they were stealing electrical outlet covers in the floor. I actually thought it kinda tacky/low class, but the behavior speaks to how much the public did love JFK.
I actually hope that thanks to grift/greed/avarice that Donnie's Library is never built. Plans for it, excuses for it being delayed, but remains a hole in the ground for all eternity.
Yep, he made the war happen, by coaching bibi the butcher what to say to get trump in his war. Fucking rapture-mad bastards should never be allowed in politics.
We are still calling people Black who have any Black ancestors. Obama had a white mother and African father. He was raised largely by white grandparents. We could as logically call him white as Black. My point is that we are still obsessed with categorizing people based on pigmentation. Do we label someone having one Irish great-grandparent and seven non-Irish great-grandparents an Irish person?
I got it this morning which would have been in the middle of the night from an American lawyer friend here in Germany. Al Arabiya English obtains 14-point draft of US-Iran Memorandum of Understanding https://share.google/87dkkqTqQ6cTypc5o
It worries me for Ukraine, that Iran will now be able to help Russia in ways they were not able to before. The US is just F--ked in this deal! The deal that Obama, Russia, China, Germany, Japan, the UK signed onto before which was actually a deal, not just a roll over and capitulate to Iran. Bibi is furious is what everyone is reporting. In fact, Malcolm Nance says that in the past 3 weeks Trump has dropped 46 points in popularity in Israel, with 23 of them happening this week.
He bombed the shit out of Iranian school girls because Bibi threatened to release his copy of the Epstein Files. You just know that Epstein sold a copy to the the Israelis.
Watch the machinery; it is the same goddamn grift every time. The would-be strongman with the matchbook starts a war in February, calls killing the supreme leader regime change, then watches the son take the same throne — and now, deal in hand, insists I never cared about regime change. The sheer ratfuckery of it. The MOU commits Iran to never building a bomb but punts the actual nuclear specifics — the enriched-uranium stockpile, the verification — into 60 more days. Markets bumped on cheaper oil through a reopened Strait of Hormuz, 20 percent of the world's crude, and the bet from this carnival-barker-in-chief is plain as piss: voters care about the pump, not the fine print on uranium. He is probably right. That is the bleakest part.
There are limitations on the U.S. military. Has Kegsbreath seen this?
From point 4: "The United States also undertakes to withdraw its forces from the surrounding areas within 30 days after the final agreement." What constitutes "surrounding areas?"
From point 9: "Iran will maintain the status quo on its nuclear program, and the United States will not impose new sanctions on Iran or strengthen its forces in the region."
Good one Mark! A twofer. Who would have known what happens when water lay stagnant? That’s a difficult scienceie thing that needs to be figured out by someone who knows that a b comes after m in dumb…oh…never mind.
I was in Qatar on a 20-minute layover about a hundred years ago and I was not even tempted to walk to Iran. Likewise I was in California and had no desire to walk to Santa Catalina Island. Just lazy I guess.
Nope, he probably paid someone to take the class… as I always maintain…. That boy ain’t got no class, he never attended classes.. he knows everything cause some uncle was a professor at MIT…. allegedly..
If You turn the Gulf water into wine, Hegseth, Patel, Pirro, and all the other souses in this regime of drunkards (let's not forget racist Hokit) will be eager to go for a dip and sip
The joy and happiness surrounding the opening of the beautiful Obama Presidential Center might just cause the orange pumpkin head to explode 🤯 or implode. Either will work
The big Opening Ceremony is actually tomorrow, June 18 - they're setting up the remote viewing area for the concert/ceremony out on the Midway and they've created some havoc with street closures around that area. My bus to work is completely borked, so I'm working from home the rest of this week.
There's going to be a sort of street festival at the Center for the opening from Juneteenth to Sunday. I'll probably drop by on Sunday, once the crowds have thinned out a bit.
He can only fail, the question is just how. And he's not installed as President to help America...he's here to remake America in the image of the 77 million + bigots; a place where minorities are oppressed, tortured and removed.
So it follows that when he goes onto the world stage he projects the WORST of America. Protected by Murc's Law, and the deference other nations feel so that they don't get invaded, he's free to be a legendarily awful and embarrassing person. And he'll be free to loot the treasury as he omnishambles all over the world, leaving skin and bronzer residue everywhere he goes.
He's here, the very most of all, to stay out of jail and to make tens of billions of dollars off of taxpayers. The ones who support him are the KKK types who want minorities to be oppressed, tortured and removed. He goes along with it because he doesn't give a damn, so long as his two goals are met. A big-time racist, indeed, but that's his 3rd priority.
If Bibi tried to get Obama to bomb Iran, than he tried to get Trump to bomb Iran during his first term. But there were still grown ups around to say no. What we have is not just a failure on Trump's part. It's a failure of the entire administration AND our military leaders. All of them need to be banished from holding power forever.
I just keep coming back to “The Mouse that Roared.” Only, this time the lion started it all. Toothless Lion.
As for Israel keeping the war going. There’s a very simple solution. The US stops sending them aid in ANY form. Most importantly, they get not a single penny more from us. Period.
I'm afraid it's too simple and too obvious that it's the way to do it. They want it all to be complicated. That way they can fool themselves into thinking we don't understand what's actually happening.
Good luck with a congress bought and paid for by AIPAC. This is one reason no other regime in the US was dumb (with a b) enough to fall for Netanyahu's BS. My partner said the day he heard about the Iran bombing that Netanyahu will never let him leave. What would it take for Trump to get the congress to stop intelligence aid and arms shipments, or at least put strict conditions, on Israel's unlimited benefits from the American taxpayers? Bernie Sanders has been trying again and again- no dice with this congress. And he, like I, am Jewish, so they can't call anti-semitism.
Personally, I loved how Macron finally had enough of Grandpa banging on about his very special boy UFC fight night and told him, 'This isn't the octagon, Donald.' Delivered with a very French smile and a knife between the ribs Donnie won't notice for days.
As always, I'm really just here for another dose of The Daily Claudia. What a beautiful life you two had, Jeff. 🥰
Trump's vocabulary is getting noticeably smaller. He didn't have much before but now the only words he has are "strong" and "hard". He doesn't even use them properly in context, but they are the only descriptors he remembers. His brain is truly gone. I pray that his body will soon follow.
Weeellllllll, considering his repressed proclivities (see his choice of birthday entertainment--men wearing nothing but tight satin panties), I'm not surprised these are the only words he can remember.......Calling Dr. Freud!
Trump is a horrifying embarrassment, and thank you for the excellent summary of just how disgustingly incompetent he is, as always. But I’m here to say that the Daily Claudia photos are especially lovely.
So, the $300 BILLION isn't coming from US (supposedly) it's from a consortium of "Gulf States" but the story is that we will still be "underwriting and/or guaranteeing" this fund. WTF WTF WTF
DonOld has just cost the Gulf States or US $300 billion for his war of choice. We are still on the hook for the weapons replacement and infrastructure destruction in the Gulf though so it will still be costing US tens of billions on the back end. Thanks MAGA, you dumbfucks.
I still stand by what I previously said, Netanyahu has Trump by The Epsteins and this won't be so easy.
It's a great reminder that as long as they get tax cut extensions, write off their private jets, and hoard their assets offshore, billionaires will continue to spend a tiny percentage of their extracted wealth on electing corrupt, incompetent, pedo-sociopaths.
In fact, my latest, "The Architecture of Pie" attempts to explain it and it is piping hot and right out of the oven.
I said it at the time and still believe that 100 years from now when historians look back at the downfall of the American Empire they are going to point to the Reagan administration. Deregulation destroyed the middle class in this country and accelerated the wealth gap. The upper class convinced the middle class that the bottom class was the problem and all too many bought into the fallacy. Don't mind the man behind the curtain.
Thank you David -and fully agree. Just as the democracy-destroying “Project 2025” is a blueprint for the abuse of power now, the Lewis Powell memo of August 1971, became the framework for Reagan to begin the democracy wrecking ball slamming against our institutions and paving the way for now.
And turned corporations into people, and destroyed the value of the media by destroying the Fairness Doctrine. He was only elected because he was viewed by far too many as a movie star (B-rated), just like the maggots elected trump because they liked his TV show.
While Trump was dazed and confused in the Swiss Alps and no one wrote about it, what they did also did not write about in most of the US press was the demonstration against the G7 that members of Indivisible Abroad were in.
I was invited to attend as well, but I had family obligations that prevented me from attending. However, the reporting made the Black Bloc sound like it ran the show, when most people were peacefully protesting. Meanwhile the police committed violations of Swiss law by unsafely enclosing peaceful protesters in an area all night. It helps to have someone on the group reporting that you trust.
This was shared about the protest from one of our Indivisible Abroad Members.
"Recap of the night of June 14–15!
Following the protest, a kettling operation was set up around 9 p.m.; police cordoned off a large area, trapping protesters and bystanders. Those trapped in the cordon had no access to restrooms, food, or basic medical care (several cases of psychological and physical distress were reported to us).
The police then released people one by one, checking their IDs, searching them, taking their photos, and sometimes taking them to the police station. The kettling ended at 6:30 a.m. (not 3:30 a.m. as stated in an RTS article), and the last people are currently leaving the police station around 8:30 a.m. Several cases of police violence have also been reported to us, whether or not related to the kettling.
Thank you to the solidarity network for taking care of our comrades, both around the roundup and upon leaving the station ♡♡♡
REMINDER: If you have photos or videos of police violence, please send them to antirep-ge@riseup.net—they are important evidence. If you receive criminal summonses or other legal documents, contact us at 078 344 53 39 (until Monday evening) or at antirep-ge@riseup.net.
And if you are in the canton of Vaud, you can also contact Antirep Vaud: antirep_vd@riseup.net"
Then another member of IA said,
"As an activist and a Swiss (dual) citizen, this reporting is deeply alarming to me."
More info from first IA member,
"Among the over 30'000 peaceful people were about 600 black block people.
They disrupted the rally with violence/car burnings and then hide in the middle of the peaceful people.
That's why a lot of peaceful people had to be checked before being released."
Another IA member who participated in the protests and organized accommodations for people from elsewhere who wanted to attend said,
"If ever, this was the justification that was given. But I believe it will be challenged as it’s quite ridiculous. Most of the people kept in the kettle overnight (ten hours, without food after a long day, water after several hours, and no bathrooms) were the main organizers and the safety team, as well as random people and tourists who were in the park next to the demonstration. The entire safety team (in our yellow vests, clearly not in black with our faces covered) was held overnight too. It’s quite anti-protest and I’m sure we’ll be seeing what comes of it. If ever, I was eventually let go just before 6am. They said they wanted to check our id and photograph us to compare against footage they had of damages but there’s no way it should have taken that long for the couple hundred of us. More likely it was punitive and to discourage protest."
Concerned dual citizen replied.
"It doesn’t sound good. I have forwarded the information to a friend who was a federal judge in Switzerland and with a special function connected with terrorists. I am curious about her take."
"https://www.instagram.com/reel/DZo4V3rtoNZ/?igsh=MTRwbWM3bDRjam01dg== When one of the main organizers who was also taken to the police station instead of being released like the rest of us spoke on tv about it, the spokesperson for the police was asked his response to the whole story and his only comment was that he didn’t really believe we were all so cold since it was a June night. But I can tell you we were dressed for midday June and we were freezing :)"
and
"As he points out, even the police said there was minimal damage ‘considering the amount of black blocs’. But most people who were there say 600 seems pretty over estimated."
The activist with the Judge friend responded.
"So the friend I checked with who has considerable expertise with the Swiss justice system says that the police in Geneva probably acted inappropriately and that there will be considerable consequences."
Let us hope there are considerable consequences. My city in Bremen, Germany just is in the process of updating protesting laws, which many cities have already done since the 1953 laws were made. Our city is pretty liberal already, but it is made clear that we may wear masks, have scarves and sunglasses with us. We have a right to assemble peacefully.
The discussion of the Black Block is that they often commit violence. That was evident here too, but was reported more than the peaceful protesting.
Here is the AP video of the demonstration and you can see the Black Block. People dressed in black clothing and masks. These people might be infiltrators. You never know. Usually assumed to belong to the Far-Left.

Man, I wish I could be there!! So many worthwhile Americans in one place, and with serious talent! Chicagoans are the lucky ones tomorrow!
In a poor neighborhood. With an admission fee or so I read.
NO NO NO!

That’s why Trump is so mad. He knows he sucks. He’s dumpy, stupid, and has a wife who hates him. His kids cower before him.
Obama is intelligent, handsome, has a wife who loves and respects him, and beautiful, intelligent daughters. He’s also very cool.
I thought the grand opening was on Juneteenth (June 19)?
It opens to the general public on Juneteenth but the ribbon cutting is tomorrow. At least, that's what I heard on the radio this morning.
Obama was such a great President. I miss him (and Michelle) every day. In my lifetime, only Jimmy Carter could match him in intelligence and ethics.
Tired of the bad press he got as well
And Graham going on about how the Straight will be re-opened like it was closed before DonOld took a blow torch to the Middle East. JFC
Lindsey Graham has a lot of innocent people's blood on his hands. He'd do well to sit down and shut up.

Gaslights his voters ‘just fine’ apparently…
Oh and that smart (overqualified) lady had an annoying laugh too
In wingnuttia that translates to "a genuine laugh", because those are not allowed in their patriarchal world of madness.

Epstein and his father-in-law and Ghislaine's two sisters all worked directly with and for the Israeli government. They were all spies.

The Obama Presidential Center opens this week on June 19th (Juneteenth, btw). I’m sure that’s pissing off the country’s biggest bigot. 😁
The entertainment lineup is absolutely top class. Vanilla Ice was apparently unavailable.
I didn’t realize it was opening on the Holiday that was June 19th- hell we still honor the 19th in this house - and MLK too!

8647 before he destroys the world
Thank you Jeff.

Reagan, more than any other singular event, was the beginning of the end of what America could have, and should have, been.
There was a glimmer of hope before that, but it has been a straight march to fascism for most of the time since.
And turned corporations into people, and destroyed the value of the media by destroying the Fairness Doctrine. He was only elected because he was viewed by far too many as a movie star (B-rated), just like the maggots elected trump because they liked his TV show.
A corrupt pervert with proclivities so bent
The worst America has ever sent
To every world leader meeting
Shows our global stature is fleeting
An unmitigated national embarrassment
He embarrasses more than all embarrassers have ever embarrassed!
He embarrasses very strongly!
Reply was,
"In case anyone understands French, a journalist was in with us: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DZlO4bnsr_T/?igsh=ZmluaGphODlnNTh6"
and
"And his coverage once he was let out: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DZmjV_AM9qY/?igsh=ZzRrOGRnN2s0N3Z3"
and
"https://www.instagram.com/reel/DZo4V3rtoNZ/?igsh=MTRwbWM3bDRjam01dg== When one of the main organizers who was also taken to the police station instead of being released like the rest of us spoke on tv about it, the spokesperson for the police was asked his response to the whole story and his only comment was that he didn’t really believe we were all so cold since it was a June night.
