by the way, I have been taking notes for a possible Week in Stupid post tomorrow, but I don't know if I'll actually be up to writing one. I guess we'll find out

Veronica Speedwell's avatar

Jeff,

I hope you aren’t feeling obliged to write because of subscriptions. There is no one here who would begrudge you a long break.

If reporting and writing is therapeutic, go for it. If it’s not, don’t and don’t worry about us. You have given so much already. Do what will help you heal.

Ted Borys's avatar

Definitely agree! We're here for you, Jeff.

Thalia Pappas's avatar

Totally agree! Jeff do what you need and can do every day, week ,month and year to heal you. Grieving is not a linear process. Take time off whenever you need to.

Babette's avatar

This Yes, Jeff, take care of you first. My heart breaks for you!

And mine. Smiling through my tears. Or weeping through my smile. Thank you, Jeff, for the Prez Dumbfuck bash. We love you so much.

RZAngel's avatar

Total agreement❣️

Pamela Van Sickle's avatar

Couldn't say it better, Veronica. Jeff, you do what YOU need to do to live in your new and grieving reality. We will be right here for you.

Tom Halstead's avatar

What Veronica said.

Connie Hillyer's avatar

Exactly! Jeff, please take care of yourself.

Jodi Richard's avatar

Perfectly stated!

Susie's avatar

This. 💜💜💜

Emma Ray's avatar

So true, Veronica

Stephen Brady's avatar

You are going through one of the biggest and worst life stressors. Just do what you need to, to adjust and start to heal.

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

it's ok, writing is my self-care. it really is how I cope

SPW's avatar

Tomorrow, Valentine’s Day, will be the 4th year since the love of my life transitioned. It’s a tough road but those of us left behind walk it because we have to. One thought that has kept me together is this; “Nothing’s lost, only changed”. All you have to do this minute is just breathe-and write if that’s what getting through the day takes. Your many fans will wait for you Jeff. Take care.

Raven's avatar

I found the first two years the worst it’s been eight for me now and I still talk to him the kids think I’m slightly nuts but hey ho it’s how I’ve coped along with art I’ve survived. It’s not easy though

Poppy Celeste's avatar

Thank you for writing today, Jeff. I'm sending you lots of love and support from France. 🫂

Linda Weide's avatar

Yes. Lots of love and support from Germany too.

Pete Gorton's avatar

and Oz, downunder!

Rahab Mitchell's avatar

Jeff, as a writer, I know from what you speak! As a person who loves deeply, writing is an act of love both to yourself and the benefactors of such precious love! This magnificent exchange is the beauty of creativity, of passion and inspiration. It is a "gift", this life force, the very "breath we breathe". Be blessed, as you bless others.

Jennifer's avatar

I get it. When I went through a huge loss, I did *nine* book signings in that first year. It was too much but being with readers and working probably saved me. You have only to do what you feel is best for you. Don't worry about us. We'll all be here.

Leslie Goodman-Malamuth's avatar

My novelist friend Ruth lost her husband Don to Lewy Body Dementia. I am devoutly glad that you and Claudia were spared that. On February 4, Ruth and her FB readers celebrated the seventy-first anniversary of their first date. She was fifteen, Don was sixteen.

Kay-El's avatar

We all cope in our own way.

Whatever gets you through the night / It’s alright, it’s alright - John Lennon

Jayme Wolworth's avatar

I am sure that Claudia knew what you would need to do for your own preservation and would not mind at all. It's certainly not disrespectful to take care of yourself in your time of grief. Whatever it takes, everyone copes differently and we all miss you but we are here for the longhaul.

Cathy Rady's avatar

Jeff - your writing is also a valuable part of MY self-care. ❤️

Given the fact that Orange Wrecking Ball & his minions continue in their effort to destroy all that is good about our country . . . the good news/bad news is there won't be any lack of things that you can write about.

Best wishes

Barbara Ferrara's avatar

Jeff, I can’t really add anything unique to these comments, but to say you’re in my thoughts and I’m sure everyone understands that you have to heal sometimes, too. To me the saddest feeling of loss when a friend passes away (and for me it isn’t a “more-than-a” friend), is thinking about how actively engaged they were in the current shared struggles and will not be part of the celebration when it is overcome. Then I remember that they were part of me and I celebrate for both of us.

Denise Donaldson's avatar

What a comforting idea, Barbara! I'll keep that thought close.

Lynn Horsky's avatar

Reading your newsletter is a healthy dose of humor for me. It channels a range of fiery emotions to a laugh that can't be suppressed and the detachment that your prose gives goes down to the heart and into the core. So heal away man and honor your wife's love faith and knowledge in your unique abilities to communicate difficult situations into transcendent ones.

Marney's avatar

Jeff - an excellent and easy book of practical help in poetry form “Permission to Mourn” I wish I could bring you a copy with a shepherds pie.

Drink lots of water

Don’t forget to eat

Rest in a peaceful place

Know that Mrs Spouse is always with you ❤️

Elizabeth Ayer's avatar

Just adding my sincere condolences to all of those here. I was reading Claudia’s posts before I started reading yours. She is such an astute and intelligent writer! I will miss her voice.

We will all practice self care with you. For all its evils, social media is also a connection between people that can provide us with hope, strength, humanity, and love.

Stephen Brady's avatar

Then it could be part of your healing process!

harkaylun's avatar

Which may take time. Someone said that the grieving never ends, you just get better at living with it. Truer words were never spoken. Peace to you.

Lucy Conner's avatar

Yes, it doesn't "get better", it just gets different.

nkrempa's avatar

You do you, my friend. At your own pace, however you need, whatever you need. We're here for you. <3

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

It can be hard to know what you need at times like this, but whatever it is, lean into it. I haven't felt this sad for/about someone whose work I love to read since Eric Boehlert died.

myhoopbabies's avatar

I'm so sorry, Jeff. The sadness that life hands us when we're old, it's not quite fair is it? Don't stop talking to her, she's still there.

MmeRose's avatar

We are fortunate to have you, WHENEVER you are ready to return. Take good care of yourself.

Margaret MacKenzie's avatar

Grieving is an individual journey, changing from day to day, though it does not need to be a lonely one. Something that brings catharsis one day may bring totally different feelings the next. Follow your heart, Jeff. Claudia will be with you, so will we.

Michael J McGee's avatar

No rush, Jeff. We will all be here for you when you're ready..

Lisa M.'s avatar

I’ve thought of you a lot since Wednesday and prayed for comfort and healing for you, Jeff. Your community here loves you and will be here whenever you feel ready to write again. I’m glad writing is therapeutic for you. You give so much to all of us - especially laughs during these awful, fucked up times, which is therapeutic for us. We’re here for you too.

HI2thDoc's avatar

We'll be here whenever you are ready. Our best to you, Jeff.

Carol Jacobson's avatar

Don’t worry about entertaining us right now. Follow your own advice and take care of yourself. We will all still be here whenever you get back to it - unless of course that fucking orange asshole figures out how to get rid of us!

Chris Ortolano's avatar

You. Take. Your. TIME! Well will all still be here.

Deborah Wright's avatar

Just do what feels right for/to you. No pressure from your readers. You have had an unexpected and shocking loss so it’s understandable if your emotions are all over the place right now. We’re all here for you.

George in Atlanta's avatar

Do what you need to do. But do not feel obligated to do a double- or triple-week to catch up if you took off time. The volume accumulates hourly and would be crushing.

CBA's avatar

Take care of you! We'll survive.

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

meanwhile, feel free to bat around current events down here in the comments. how about that Mean Girl wannabe, Pam Bondi?

K Schaefers's avatar

Fuckin Bondi. I'm just so pissed that she is giving women a bad rap. Her ranting during that Congressional hearing just is going to open up the floodgates of "just another hysterical woman". No substance, no accountability, and should have been R-rated for all the Trump mushroom cock gobbling she did instead of answering questions.

The index cards of insults? What are we, 12?

Been seeing a lot of memes about women saying that they are bitches and they do not accept Bondi into the coven of bitches. I'm here for it.

Cindy Bender's avatar

she acted just like brett kavanaugh in his hearing prior to appointment...despicable behavior and totally unprofessional and unacceptable in any setting, much less a formal hearing

i live in florida and was one of the floridians so grateful when she got out of our state....but then t moved here....and we still have desantis....hopefully MAGA will fall apart and we can all live in a civilized respectable society where public servants serve all the public, and opposite work together for the good of the american people....

back in the 1990's I worked in organizational development. at that time, it was predicted that the workforce would have a majority of women and people of color...I welcomed and have looked forward to that balance...I just didnt realize the white rich dinosaurs would revolt so dramatically and terribly to avoid this

J Glaspie's avatar

Did you read where FL is considering renaming Palm Beach International Airport after the rump? I wrote my legislators and told them it's too much money to change the name, then change it back when he is impeached. What a disgrace and international embarrassment to have an airport named after the most famous pedophile in the world.

Charles Austin's avatar

Shitgibbon Field?😂😂

Charles Austin's avatar

Coming in on a dookie and a prayer!😂😂😂😂

Victoria Wilson's avatar

Little Donnie Fuckface International?

barb's avatar

Felon International.

Joan Eisenstodt's avatar

Yeah and we who are REAL Washingtonians call DCA that or “National” and never after the name of he who ignored AIDS and who broke the Controllers’ Union.

Grace-in-Space's avatar

So true about Kavenaugh. Although Bondi didn't break down in tears and declare "I like beer!" Maybe the only significant difference...

Brenda K's avatar

So it was true that Boof Kavenaugh was crying "White Woman Tears" at his confirmation hearing?! Jesus....

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Bondi is the Mean Girl Cheerleader from Hell, screaming for the losing team. The women Congressional reps shredded her, as did the men. Her performance was an audition for prison.

arne link's avatar

As we all know, she was performing for one person. That person will never quit her. She knows as much as Maxwell.

FTrump And FPutin Too's avatar

She is an insult to bitches and humanity everywhere. She doesn’t deserve the term “bitch”. Maybe DC for despicable c-nt, rhymes with blunt. Or DT, second word rhymes with “what” works for her, rump and every supporter of their kind. I’m trying, though, for a unisexual equivalent. Suggestions welcome!

FTrump And FPutin Too's avatar

This just popped in my head: rumplicker, applies universally.

Mingo's avatar

The word caterwauling came to mind.

Barb Z's avatar

A different c-word came to mine. And it’s a word I loathe.

HI2thDoc's avatar

My wife uses that word for her. And for KKKarolyin' Leavitt

jordan celso's avatar

How about KKK*nt? More appropriate maybe?

barb's avatar

Let's not forget Noem. I loathe the word too but there's a lot of stiff competition on a daily basis for who should be called it.

Mary Hall's avatar

You can't call her a "c-word;" she lacks warmth and depth.

Brenda K's avatar

Yes. As potty-mouthed as I can be, I don't think I have EVER used that word prior to the advent of this absolute nuclear dumpster fire of a regime.

Cheryl Seybert's avatar

Yes Ma’am!! I’m with you 💯💯!!

Susie's avatar

Yyyeeessssssss!!!!!!

P123Sunny's avatar

To your point - I have seen several male podcasters blast ppl for criticizing HER “BEHAVIOR” THAT THEY 100% ACCEPT FROM THE PREZ… so glad to see some guys seeing that and speaking out!

Mary's avatar

Exactly. What stood out was how much it seems shes been sharing the same air as TFG - to the point where she’s caught the contagion and it’s showing in speech patterning, non-sequiturs, rage & faulty logic.

P123Sunny's avatar

‘The Roy Cohn School of Charm’ continues to grow… :/

FTrump And FPutin Too's avatar

Great point! And all that aspire to emulate him including media are not leadership material, and should be relegated to the trash bin of shame.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

She would've been right at home with the soshies, as we called them, in my high school, the mean girls who formed secret sororities and had special tables at lunch and talked incessantly about how many cashmere sweaters they had and how their parents were letting them stay out of school the day of the fraternity "sing" to have their hair and nails done and how much hey spent on their prom dress and who they were blackballing. I'm old enough now to have hung with them at class reunions and even they laugh about it now because they grew up by the time they were 60, Pam Bondi's age. For someone who is 60, she lacks awareness, dignity and simply decency.

MmeRose's avatar

Can't you just see her passing around a "slam book" (what they called it in my HS), trying to think of the meanest comments.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Absolutely. And she'd be one of those mean girls in my high school mocking someone they don't like just within that person's earshot but pretending they don't see her.

insert_something_creative's avatar

I've seen people calling her binder a "burn book" like the one in the movie Mean Girls where they write the most awful shit they can about their classmates.

It's absolutely fitting.

Jax's avatar

WOW! Slam book! I haven't even HEARD that word since high school, some 49 years ago!

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

A "slam book" sounds like a high school training exercise for slander and libel, bullying smear campaigns that have transitioned to social media. And here we are with the worst society ever.

Jax's avatar

That's exactly what it was.

T L Mills's avatar

K Schaefers...PERFECTLY said, (ma'am or sir)! I have tears in my eyes (from laughing). Very well said!

CBA's avatar

A real bitch is intelligent enough come up with her own insults on the fly. I do not accept Botox Barbie into the canon of bitches.

Mary's avatar

Agreed. A REAL *bitch* commands respect along with the loathing.

This one hasn’t the wits to meet that bar

; D

Margaret MacKenzie's avatar

Cue the hearing video of Pammie’s angry ranting if Republicans ever use “But women are too emotional, unstable, and irrational to be in any leadership position” to justify their misogyny.

Heaven forbid that Kamala liked to laugh.

LindaSRW's avatar

You stated that perfectly! My thoughts exactly. Bondi should be in jail, along with her cohorts and her smelly boss, that huge Orange Diaper.

Christopher Flagg's avatar

Orange wannabe dictator in an orange prison jumpsuit, sounds like a perfect match to me.

Kathleen M Kendrick's avatar

Bondi reminds me of a bully-mean girl I grew up with.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

She reminds me of every bully/mean girl I went to high school with. But by the time they were 60, they all laughed at their stupid younger selves. Bondi is 60 and still acting like a teenager.

Carol JLH's avatar

True words, Anastasia! Most people, including their formerly catty selves, know it's a terrible idea to put a mean girl in charge of anything.

Margaret MacKenzie's avatar

And the cue cards she pulled out. It’s like the stupid playground bully being fed insults by his slightly smarter little toadie with a stage whisper.

djw's avatar

Yeah, but the difference is that you grew up.

Kelly Ann O'Brien's avatar

Bondi reminded me of Cruella Deville.

Denise Donaldson's avatar

Except Cruella is intelligent and has some wit, nasty as it is.

Linda McCaughey's avatar

Is there a better word than despicable?

Cyndi's avatar

Yeah, Trumpian.

Cheryl Seybert's avatar

I absolutely agree with everything you have said K. Schaefers!!

Nancy Gonzalez's avatar

She was a rabid, screaming shrew! What a performance for her audience of one!!

LINDA ADAMS's avatar

One of the best exchanges:

Rep. Balint (Vt): This is not a game, Secretary.

Bondi: I’m Attorney General.

Rep. Balint: My apologies; I couldn’t tell.

RZolu's avatar

Makes me proud to be from New England to see that comment! Thanks for making my Friday.

myhoopbabies's avatar

Ah, that made me so happy, I listened to it repeatedly yesterday! I especially the little beat Rep. Balint waited to make sure the Bondi Villain heard her. Pure poetry.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

She's a DEI hire! All of her interrogators went to better schools and have much higher quality resumes than Bondi.

HI2thDoc's avatar

His $25k payoff to her non-profit or whatever that was ensured her everlasting fealty. Cheap date, Pam. He pays more for adultery.

Kathy H's avatar

IMO, she should have invested in a few acting lessons seeing as she decided to entirely disregard any ethics education. It's unacceptable that she isn't doing the job, but it's insult on injury, these no-quality performances of bottom-rated sewer clowns. Felon47 isn't good with money.

HI2thDoc's avatar

The only thing I've seen that he is proficient at is lying. That's no hyperbole.

T L Mills's avatar

That's what I thought. Even Homan got $50,000. I'm thinking Stetson U. Law School must be desperately ashamed of awarding her a Juris Doctor.

Mary's avatar

That was one helluva 3rd degree BURN.

Delightful

Lisa Leonardi's avatar

My favorite retort also.

Claudia Classon's avatar

The BEST comeback ever.

Jane's avatar

That was a great response

HI2thDoc's avatar

Her two divorces and failed engagement are somewhat put into focus

Susan Niemann's avatar

She was married? TWICE? Who in their right mind would..... I bet they need therapy after that experience. 🤣

HI2thDoc's avatar

That's what I was talking about. Don't she seem like such a sweetheart to be around?

Susan Niemann's avatar

All of this has made me wonder how evil happens....how do people feel comfortable with themselves being so awful?

HI2thDoc's avatar

I'm no psychologist but these types seem to possess narcissistic traits, which encompass burning ambition for self-enrichment, power, wealth, and status, coupled with a lack of self-awareness. Needless to say, this symptom complex empowers a "stop at nothing" drive, meaning that kindness, empathy, morals, ethics, and even legality are not important.

Carol JLH's avatar

ha ha I feel a bit guilty about how funny that is but can't argue with the veracity of the thing.

Every stereotype women have fought to demolish is celebrated in their world.

Ann Anderson's avatar

Rabid is the word.

Lisa Leonardi's avatar

Perhaps we need to combine some of the better adjectives:

It was a rabid caterwaul.

Terry O''s avatar

Lock her up in a padded cell.

Nancy Vanden Houten's avatar

The picture of her refusing to look at, let alone apologize to, the standing Epstein survivors underscores what a total piece of shit she is. If Democrats at least take the House and don't impeach her (along with Kristi who fires someone for forgetting her blanket), well I don't know what to say.

Grace Kennedy's avatar

She used the “so there were 9 year olds raped and murdered - have you seen the Dow?” defense. Very effective. In gargoyleland.

Patris's avatar

That may have been the sub basement for me. What a twisted idiot.

Jane's avatar

I laughed at her, too -- "over 50,000... dollars?" She doesn't even know what the fucking Dow is.

Lisa Leonardi's avatar

A perfect line for a new movie about Dystopian America.

MmeRose's avatar

She couldn't be bothered to turn her head to look at the survivors, who showed extraordinary courage by even showing up. Obviously, she did not avoid their eyes because of any shame on her part, she's shameless and cruel.

IMO she should be sharing a cell with Ghislaine Maxwell. In a real prison.

Kathy H's avatar

Absolutely, these sick people have to be removed. What is worse, being violated or living your life being told that wasn't even a thing, that you haven't been worth acknowledging, let alone defending? The wounds of abuse never entirely heal & they never can without acknowledging the harm.

Janine Gwaltney's avatar

That photo will live on.

barb's avatar

Agreed. I thought that was the most reprehensible part of her whole charade. Imagine how much courage it must have taken for those women survivors just to show up.

Diane Donner-Engoron's avatar

Honestly, could she be any more of a bitch????? I was furious watching her trumpian bs!

Lisa Leonardi's avatar

She is truly a cunt to the Nth degree.

Marlene Cohen Adair's avatar

She really adds to the misogynistic view of women as shrews. Let’s kick her out of our gender

Diane Donner-Engoron's avatar

I was going to say the same thing! As a matter of fact we were throwing around that word while watching her! Great minds!

Celine's avatar

Cunts are warm and cozy. She is an ass boil.

jordan celso's avatar

That's spelled with KKK*nt!

Douglas Paul Truhlar's avatar

If we were in ‘witch burning’ it would be her turn.

Marian Vitale's avatar

The Onion headline was, "Pam Bondi Thought That Went Pretty Well." lol

Kate's avatar

Dog bless the Onion!

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Trump said Bondi was "fantastic," so mission accomplished. I wonder where she imagines she'll go after Old King Coal is gone.

She's that girl who would write nasty sh*t about herself on the bathroom stall and then tell the teacher that you did it.

Eva's avatar

She was the human embodiment of Trump tweets. Not as good as hearing Andy Serkis reading them in a Gollum voice, but more like Regina George reading them in a Regina George voice.

haughty pammy jo? -- painful to experience her in any way -- clearly the haughty act is strategy -- what's funny is the poor execution -- kinda like someone directed her to act like a haughty asshole -- and this is the moronic version she came up with -- i put her in the same drawer as Kimberly Gargoyle -- i can hear them banging around, screaming in there

There is a certain egregiously offensive word that applies to her perfectly. I won't repeat it, not even here, although I often precede it with "fucking goddamn".

Marc Panaye's avatar

Bondi? Well....... she's happy when the dow reaches 50.000.......

Bob's avatar

Chicky Mama's avatar

Nah…that implies she has depth and warmth 🥶🥶🥶

Mary's avatar

The vibe I got from that incredible performance was one of poorly masked panic.

Visibly teetering between weeping rage and shaking fits of incoherent plea bargaining.

A banshee circling - trapped in a well lit room and crumbling like a vampire in the sun.

Love that journey for her

Janine Gwaltney's avatar

I keep wondering why she looks so much like a little girl? She certainly acts like a child. That photo of her ignoring the victims will go down in history.

arne link's avatar

Because that's how Donnie likes 'em. He likes 'em young and blond, kinda like Ivanka used to be at twelve or 13.

I'd like to know whether it's true that Bondi was with Felon45-47 on Epstein's plane, sitting on the felon's lap. Can anyone verify that?

arne link's avatar

They do go way back as pals. She interacted with Epstein at the time.

Jane's avatar

Diane Donner-Engoron's avatar

Hi Jeff - I tried to send you a message yesterday but had some kind of glitch. I am so, so sorry for your loss. You need to take all the time you need as there is no timetable on grief. May Claudia's memory always be a blessing. Please take good care of yourself. We'll be here.

Marlene Cohen Adair's avatar

Could we have a fund in Claudia’s name to honor her and you as you direct funds to whatever good trouble seems timely. Bless her memory and you, a teacher and inspiration.

Diane Donner-Engoron's avatar

I love this idea. Anyone else?

barb's avatar

I also posted a similar idea, donations to charities/causes/organizations picked by Jeff but your idea of one fund may be even better.

JsuttraL's avatar

Pam Bondi is a vile human. That is all.

CBA's avatar

"Human" is a stretch.

George in Atlanta's avatar

I like science, but I'll make exceptions when conditions warrant. I see definite 'glitches' in her image as her human mask slips and her true reptilian form shows through. Look at those dead eyes, her soul left the building long ago.
