"Fulton County prosecutors ask for emergency seal of evidence after video leak in election subversion case." Fani Willis is calling the leak "witness intimidation."

I might've anticipated reading stories like this in SPY but fuck... Seriously, has there ever been such a collection of whacky crackerjack stories in a single day? Don't answer.

SCOTUS: "We don't need no oversight!"

Everyone else: "Oversight the fuck out of them!"

SCOTUS: "NOPE! We decide who gets oversight."

Well, folks, I'd say the US is safe forever. I see no possible way that having the people who decide and enforce the rules do whatever they want for whoever they want could possibly play out poorly for anyone involved.

We can all sleep like babies tonight. America is safe forever.

Fluent sarcasm, my favorite language, which is, of course, why I have a commenter's subscription here. I love being among my people.

Morgan OCailleigh's avatar

Makes the day much easier to get through, doesn't it. At this point, if we all get locked up together I'd be willing to smuggle in liquor and weed ....

Susan Niemann's avatar

Then I wanna sit next to you. 👍😂

Lorraine Parish's avatar

i'll drive up some mushrooms from Mexico.

Openly Fae's avatar

Why do we have to be locked up together for you to smuggle us some liquor and weed? Do you need an excuse? ;)

un poco loco's avatar

That is an excellent point.

Morgan OCailleigh's avatar

We don't technically... and no I dont.

Ok, I'll have a party and you're all invited!!🎶🍫🥃🍻🍷🍸🥂🧋🌮🍟 🎉🎈

Alicia Norman's avatar

I don't imbibe or drink but if you bring chocolate and pom drinks I will follow you anywheres!

Lena Fontaine's avatar

I'll bring one of those giant tubs of cheese balls.

Okay I’m getting my immunotherapy right now and all I have playing in my head is ‘one toke over the line, sweet Jesus...’and I’m ready to dance! Thanks Morgan, Bedhead, EN. Everyone!

Theresa Palmer's avatar

Teagarden and Van Winkle. That's an old one.

Wendy's avatar

Save me the seat on your other side. While I've never spent a night in the pokey, your offer has a certain appeal. 😂

Morgan's avatar

I like how you think there Morgan!!

Morgan OCailleigh's avatar

I'm just trying to make the best of this, it's so fucking depressing at times. 😉

Morgan's avatar

A drink and a toke.. works for me .. the orange dumpster fire and his sycophants exhaust me.

CAM from 🇨🇦's avatar

If you were in Canada, you wouldn’t have to smuggle either. 😆

Morgan OCailleigh's avatar

Well, I live in New Mexico where both are legal. Smuggling would only be required some some states or if we were all locked up in some concentration camp designed by Stephen Miller.

CAM from 🇨🇦's avatar

That’s my problem even as a Canuck- Stephen Miller is the architect and conductor of this whole sordid affair.

Alicia Norman's avatar

Follow this man, and thank me later.

Would an amendment to the Constitution work? The framers didn’t envision a SCOTUS being bought and paid for; so, why not try through the ballot box? I realize it would prove to be an uphill battle; however, it would be worth it to hold the justices of SCOTUS to reasonable limits on their behavior like the supreme bullshit activity recently uncovered.

Rick Calegari's avatar

The ethics gap in today's SCOTUS is as wide as we've ever seen it. You've got the two biggest offenders in Thomas and Alito who could give a shit about how many gifts they received let alone disclose them. Then you have Kagan who wouldn't take a package from friends that included lox, bagels and chocolate since she felt it was wrong. Justices like Kagan deserve recognition for stand up ethical behavior instead of shams like Thomas and Alito who continue to make a mockery of the highest court in the land.

steve robertshaw's avatar

Clarence Thomas - Bush the Elder's 30(+) -year gift to America from a 1-term president.

Sköll's avatar

An abortion of Justice that determines the fate of abortion and justice.

Bob Bowden's avatar

How would an (R) state representative justify a vote against a Constitutional amendment mandating a full disclosure of gifts with value exceeding $1,000 in Constant 2024 Dollars to a lifetime-appointed Justice from any individual or corporate entity in a single year, with a stipulation that larger gifts must be returned to sender unless its acceptance approved by a 2/3 vote of Congress?

J.R.'s avatar

This is the uphill of the aforementioned battle :-)

Theresa Palmer's avatar

One wonders.. "I don't want to expect ethical conduct in the highest court so I'm voting against it?"

Openly Fae's avatar

Legally? Not sure. Practically? Probably not...? I mean the majority of this group clearly wants to conduct itself without outside interference of any kind (as completely trustworthy folks always insist on) and as such I feel it's only natural to assume they'd continue to resist any restraint that isn't absolutely forced on them.

Some iterations of the SCOTUS might have reacted differently but this group clearly thinks highly of itself.

un poco loco's avatar

Well, to hear them tell it, they *were* divinely chosen and appointed to the bench. This bunch almost makes me miss Scalia.

Alicia Norman's avatar

As Trump continues to flagrantly thumb his nose at the law, I can't help but wonder how many loopholes in the constitution and the law remain unregarded and unsewn for so long. Now we see the ramifications of such laziness.

Susan Niemann's avatar

🤣🤣🤣🤣 I feel so much better now!

Cassandra Here's avatar

I’ve had it in for Clarence Thomas ever since Anita Hill; it’s good to feel vindicated over and over and over again. If they’d written a stronger code of ethics, they would have had to do something about him. What they did, in fact, was build a fence around Thomas.

Openly Fae's avatar

"He's our favourite little rapist!"

Monnina's avatar

In my book this makes everyone supporting these actions knowingly, complicit in Thomas’ (et el) crimes.

Runfastandwin's avatar

this reminds me that we have never found out which cop it was that allowed a pickup truck full of lumber to drive onto the mall and unload the lumber and also which cop stood by and allowed two carpenters (as a former carpenter I can tell you it's a two man job) to build a gallows. near as I can tell the question has never even been broached.

Sköll's avatar

The thing is, they didn't get Pence. They came within seconds of grabbing him, though. Then that gallows would be Exhibit A in Trump's trial.

Runfastandwin;

The mainstream media has enabled this crap! They are complicit. Bored with that!

That has GOT to be the funniest picture of a man and his beard ever! It looks like they just met. Tim Scott should have a t-shirt that reads, "I ran for President and all I got was a beard."

Kimberly Montgomery (CA)'s avatar

Sunny message?! Really?

Tim Scott was afraid of being outed as the closeted man he is. I don't care if he's gay or Bi or whatever, but he knew it was only a matter of time before investigation into his personal life would have Republicans turning on him. Better to back out now.

Wonder how he will explain it when he and his surprise Canadian girlfriend aren't ever seen again in public. 🤔

Sköll's avatar

Ya, Gaetz just outed one of his own, a couple days back.

Susan Niemann's avatar

I hope they yank Jennas law license cause she shouldn't be working anywhere but a Cracker Barrel... even then... These people are so damned delusional to have thought that the entire scheme was even possible. Where is their sense of right and wrong? And, maybe it's good that Trump went full Hitler because MAYBE (hoping) people will start to see what he really is. I can only dream. 🙄

🌷IntheHalloftheMtnKing's avatar

Yes her own sense of right and wrong. SMH.

He knew he couldn't and yet she was like I'll run with it.

Ok so TFG see himself as some spray-tan Hitler. And the growing list of newly contrite would-be democracy snuffers THAT WE KNOW ABOUT proves the guy can’t do anything alone. So who is behind the scenes helping him plan the detainment camps, enemy imprisonments, and miscellaneous fascist fuckery behind the Just Wait til ‘25 POTUS 2.0 roadmap? Besides Ginny Thomas & ashtray personified Steve Bannon? These speeches are way too specific for the addle-brained diaperload to come up with all the details himself.

Steve B's avatar

Stephen Miller. It's ALL Stephen Miller, the Trump administration's Jewish Nazi. Miller wrote Trump's "American Carnage" speech. I can hear his rhetoric a mile away. NO ONE writes that bullshit like him. He is possessed by racist, xenophobic, demons.

Samantha M's avatar

Wow! Once I had kid I had to stop pretending my sedition club was going to overthrow democracy and get a real job. I suppose Thomas’s master bought him a mobile home too.

Steve B's avatar

I felt so sorry for that child when she (?) was born. Can you imagine? Not even mom is all there, let alone Slenderman.

Samantha M's avatar

He’s way more evil than anyone Stephen King ever imagined. Because he’s real. 😬

Karen Livolsi's avatar

Ashtray personified Steve Bannon. That’s a good one. Not even a glass ashtray, one of those contraptions they put in outdoor smoking areas. The smelly 3 foot ostrich looking one’s with a big loogie for feet.

Charlie Austin's avatar

He looks like he lives under a bridge.

RV maxima's avatar

Totally. I imagine him sleeping on a park bench with a newspaper pillow and a Pete's Blanket in a bottle gin.

Charlie Austin's avatar

Stephen Miller has his fingerprints all over this.

RV maxima's avatar

And The Heritage Foundation for funding. You can find project 2025 on their website I believe.

SeekingReason's avatar

Samantha, I always say this too. Trump is addle-brained. He couldn’t make his own strategy to get to his bathroom. He is merely the puppet reading the script. You are spot in with this.

But Cheney isn’t a fan ... not that I’m a fan of anyone named Cheney but he actually made some anti-Trump noise before his daughter got primaried. My money is on Ginny Thomas. She and her smug husband are certain the rules don’t apply to them. It’s gonna take more than a toothless bs code of ethics to bring their wrongdoings to light.

Roberts is having a real "pay no attention to the man behind the screen" moment. Did he really think we'd buy this shit? Seriously?

Apparently, absolute power, aside from corrupting absolutely, also makes you dumber than a box of rocks.

Morgan OCailleigh's avatar

Let's not insult rocks. I have a lovely collection of rocks .

How about a bag of shit. We could put one at each of their front doors and set it on 🔥. Childish perhaps but what the hell...

Steve B's avatar

As a gay man, I couldn't be more disgusted with Tim Scott (or Lindsey Graham, for that matter) if I tried. It's 2023, either come out or don't, but don't parade out some woman who likely made $500 to do so and try to pass her off as your girlfriend. How childish and revolting. And all so he can continue to be a token in the Republican Party! "Look! We have a Black friend!"

Just all kinds of UGH!

Lorraine Parish's avatar

I was a huge fan of Tim Scott and his sunny message. My favorite sunny message of his was the one where he promised to bring us back to the good old days, when girls bled out from DIY abortions. If only DeSantis could be next...

Cassandra Here's avatar

If this is all they can come up with as an ethics code, how can we trust this bunch of judges to write good decisions? Do they not see the humor in that? [bTW: I’m still Gaye Nickles, I had to change my name because of some ugly folks commenting on another substack. Thanks, you all are the best.
