today in Shit That Happened While I Was Busy Writing This Shit—

"The Left Notches Another Win With This Secret Weapon: Old-Fashioned Organizing"

https://www.nytimes.com/2026/08/19/us/politics/florida-primary-progressives-upset.html?smid=nytcore-android-share

"State Representative Angie Nixon scored a stunning upset on Tuesday in Florida’s Democratic Senate primary. Her victory will test the strength of a democratic socialist in a red state."

Alex and Rachael Vindman are friends of mine, so I'm recusing myself from this discussion. but it seems important, so have at it, commenters

Wendy The Druid 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🌈's avatar

Jeff, let's try to victory lap the blue wave shit that happened.

A little light never hurt any of us right?

Wyoming — fucking Wyoming, the reddest dirt in this whole country — told the Sharpie cartographer to eat shit and buried his handpicked governor pick. Florida shitcanned Cory Mills, a man hauling a House Ethics probe, a DOJ probe, and a restraining order like carry-on luggage. Then the chickenshit endorsed him in February and quietly left him off his own August list. And Angie Nixon beat nine million dollars with nine hundred grand. That branding iron's a wet goddamn sticker. Now peel it off.

Joanne's avatar

Thanks for Sharpie cartographer!

devourerofpancakes's avatar

Is it that stunning? Vindman had money but he has not held office before. Experience still matters to rank and file democrats, IMO. And honestly I don't understand the wing of the party that keeps running from full vocal support for very popular policies.

Kandarohe's avatar

I saw a stat on The Left Hook yesterday, that 47% of Democrats don't think the party is progressive enough, 44% of them think the party is just progressive enough, and 8% think the party is too progressive. Schumer, Jeffries, the DNC, and every corporate Democrat out there (most of them) are playing only to the 8%. WHY??

rlritt's avatar

I disagree. People seem to forget that tbe Democrats are in the minority in all 3 branches of government.

Here is what they have done

Senate Democrats have effectively blocked the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act) by withholding the votes needed to reach the 60-vote threshold required to advance typical legislation.

Democrats regularly block Republican legislation in Congress using parliamentary tools like the filibuster,j procedural votes, and united opposition. Because major legislation in the Senate generally requires 60 votes to overcome a filibuster, minority or split-party leverage allows Democrats to stop bills they oppose.

Blocked The Defense Authorization Bills

Democrats have used hardball procedural blocks on security and renewal laws—such as FISA provisions—to contest executive branch appointments and policies.

Gisele Dubson's avatar

I like Vindman, but I thought Senator would be a stretch.

Lisa Dekker's avatar

See? You put someone who talks about what people really need - like healthcare, affordable groceries, free cable TV with Happy Days re-runs, and you prove that many of Florida’s geezers will get out of the recliner and VOTE!

Susan K.'s avatar

Lisa - I appreciate your point, but please think before you express negative comments about old people. Some of us are actually smart, well-informed, and insulted by the assumption that we watch stupid TV.

Lisa Dekker's avatar

Susan, you’re right. And, I AM a geezer. But you have to admit that some voters ?! In Florida have not been making the best choices for awhile. And, when the right candidate with good organizing came along they made a better choice.

Judy Luchsinger's avatar

I'm fairly sure when she said geezers, she meant those people who watch propaganda and have no thinking ability, not that all of us old people are geezers. It doesn't really have anything to do with age to be an old geezer.

HI2thDoc's avatar

She said "many", not all.

Susan K.'s avatar

OK, thought-provoking reply …

Irascible Ink's avatar

Thank you, Doc, from another geezer who gets it. If we could post pics, this would be a good place for the 'Lighten Up Francis' meme.

CL Tee's avatar

Same. 78 years old and actually well-educated, smart and informed. Prefer to be referred to as an older adult.

Joe Witkowski's avatar

If the Dems can’t beat that Repugnican box of rocks Byron Donald’s in the governor’s race (sorry R.E.M.) it’s the end of the world as we know it.

The Francesca Hong results explained, and it's worde than we thought:

https://www.nytimes.com/2026/08/18/polls/median-strategies-polls-bass-california-wisconsin.html?smid=url-share

"Fake Polls in Wisconsin and California Were Part of a ‘Social Experiment’"

Median Strategies revealed that recent polls from the group were intended to expose how easily false results can be spread.

Ugh, where is FiveThirtyEoght when you need them? This would have easily been exposed in their “Good use of polling” podcast segment.

Alex would not denounce or acknowledge the genocide in Gaza.

Which was Blue most of my life...smh

Joe Bacon's avatar

Grandma Bacon used to say that folks would tell her that the US was tilted and all the loose nuts and bolts rolled into California...until Reagan got in and shifted the tilt to Texas.

I guess the tilt changed again and those loose nuts and bolts now roll into Florida...

Susan B's avatar

Bummed - Alex should have won

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

It assures a Republican victory where there might have been a chance for an upset.

Purobi Phillips's avatar

Great job crystal balling, future talking.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Doesn't require any genius. From POLITICO:

(Sabato’s Crystal Ball shifted the contest from “Likely R” to “Safe R” after Nixon’s win.)

Mark Slattery's avatar

Those whining about Ossoff are the same ones who claim they're not implying anything by using Abdul El-Sayed's full name

DJ Headthrob's avatar

Not to mention Barack HUSSEIN Obama.

Ann Panda's avatar

I just came on to say that. In my town, there is a photographer who has on his website pictures of all the presidents that have visited during campaign stops. For everyone but Obama, he lists first and last name. For Obama, the pages are titled "Barack Hussein Obama." I emailed and asked why he included a middle name for O and not for anyone else. No answer. But I know the answer!!!!

Judy Luchsinger's avatar

Thank you for calling out the embedded racism in the photographer's website.

rlritt's avatar

They dont realize that doing this makes people used to hearing and then dont think about it anymore. Besides lots of people have much weird middle names.

Mr Mild - BlueVotingBastard💙's avatar

These are the same chuds who went after John Podesta for his Risotto recipe.

The same group that actively worked to destroy Monica Lewinsky over a consensual relationship. Meanwhile letting garden gnome Gnewt Gingrich get away with an affair he was conducting.

rlritt's avatar

Theee has always been a double standard. The Democrats always fall for it and get caught. The Republicans do the same and give the Democrats the middle finger.

Victoria Wilson's avatar

Yeah the same ones who like it when Obama is referred to as” Barrack Hussein Obama”

HI2thDoc's avatar

Megyn Kelly, why do you still bray

Your idiocy suffuses what you say

You sucked so badly

That NBC gladly

Paid you $30 mill just to go away

Susan Niemann's avatar

HA! She so vile!

Susitrav's avatar

Remind Megyn about what trump said to Access Hollywood! 2008 hot mic that should have ENDED this PEDOFELON LOSER!

Joe Witkowski's avatar

Is Megyn Kelly Roman Catholic?

Why, is the Pope American?

What is Megyn Kelly’s primary interest in the Roman Catholic faith?

Why, marriage annulments of course.

Megyn Kelly is a lifelong Roman Catholic. She was raised in an Irish-Catholic family and has frequently spoken about her faith, as well as her experiences and frustrations with certain church processes, such as the marital annulment system.

Maria 🇮🇪's avatar

That’s Brilliant Doc

Lauren Smith's avatar

Geez...I can barely read this one. Insane. Troubling. At a level that can't be ignored.

OK...gotta go contribute to Ossoff. Listened to his fiery speech in Atlanta. What a champ. Totally spot on. Work for the good Ossoff, we're behind you. AND Beside you. Fired Up!

Jennifer Welch, chatting with Steve Schmidt the other day, quoted her mom: “The louder the Christian, the bigger the secret”. Frauds so often reveal themselves. In the case at hand, Repugnicans reveal their thoughts, fantasies, and methods.

Kandarohe's avatar

Agree. You can be 100% sure that whatever today's Republicans are yelling and screaming about and accusing somebody else of doing, they are doing full tilt themselves.

Let's go to bed and have fun-dee!

Eww! A small mushroom dick

I'm gonna be sick!

NOBODY LIKES YOU, NO WONDEE!"

Wait, what?

This is some sort of Arrested Development sketch!

DJ Headthrob's avatar

Has anyone given serious thought that Miss. Natalie may be auditioning for Wife #4? Look at earlier photos. She actually dyed her hair to look more like Ivanka. The more we learn about this bizarre administration the more it seems like a MAGA-themed Bosch illustration--the Garden of Unearthly Delights.

Susan Niemann's avatar

Ew. She's psychotic.

Marc R Hapke's avatar

Then she will fit right in in Trumplandia.

devourerofpancakes's avatar

To me it sounds like hero worship.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

And extreme masochism mixed with passive aggression. The Secret Service clearly sensed the threat -- if Shitler actually banned her from his court, she would pose a risk of harm to herself or others.

A seat in the Duma, like Maria Buttina got when she returned to Moscow after laundering Russian campaign funds to the GOP through the NRA?

Joanne Rossmassler Fritz's avatar

I thought I read somewhere that she’s a cancer survivor and credits Donny with saving her life. Or did I dream that? 🤣

Joyce's avatar

That's her story. Demento had signed whatever that allowed for experimental treatments; allegedly Nurse Natty benefited.

If she's not lying through her teeth as usual.

john augustine's avatar

makes sense in the GOP healthcare for me but not for thee world

Joanne Rossmassler Fritz's avatar

Oh, I don’t believe a word she says. She’s obsessed. But thanks. I was just googling it. That cancer claim got her enough “fame” to lead to a job at One America “News”.

serenity's avatar

Trump signed the Right to Try Act in 2018 which allowed terminally ill patients access to experimental treatments that had passed Phase I of testing but had not been FDA approved. I think that's what she means when he saved her life.

David M Marko's avatar

If Pumpkinhead is still on this side of the grass in 2028 you can bet Melanoma has an out clause in their arrangement. She will be hightailing it to Paris before the next President is sworn in. Eva Braun ... er ... Natalie will happily jump in the bunker with Shilter.

rlritt's avatar

I think that's what Melania has been hoping for. I wouldnt be surprised if she introduced her to Trump.

Peter Moore's avatar

Accuse trump of sexual impropriety? The outrage! The gall! The fundamental obviousness of it all!

rlritt's avatar

Fortunately, old man Trump is looking at sexual impropriety in the rear view mirror.

GOOD!! This weird ass shit has gone on long enough, let these magats twist in the wind and try and defend this.

Joe Bacon's avatar

Just waiting for Trump's personal Pulpit Pimp Paula White to chime in on this...oh wait she's silent about this?...Well let's ask Franky Graham Cracker...uh oh...he's silent too!

HI2thDoc's avatar

Third time for this one:

I truly despise Paula White

I give her my unbridled spite

She's a charlatan fake

Trying so hard to make

All the blood money in sight

Susan Niemann's avatar

Excellent. 👍👍

george campbell's avatar

Pulpit Pimp . Exactly . I've heard -by accident -some of the shit she has put out there and it doesn't even make sense . Word salad .

devourerofpancakes's avatar

I think the American people deserve to know how much she is getting paid. Did she pass a security clearance?

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

The notion of national security is so quaint.

HI2thDoc's avatar

This is the "in- and un-“ regime, as in national insecurity, national unintelligence, Dept. of Injustice, etc., ad nauseum

Kate's avatar

Exactly—these are the questions dems need to pivot to, NOW.

Merrill's avatar

The MAGA 3 Stooges brouhaha over Natalie is just more evidence of the DEAD GOP. the Grand Old Party used to have serious but misguided leaders. Today, their knee jerk support for a conniving, delusional psychopath is the party's epitaph.

PEACE, LOVE, RESIST's avatar

I’m just wondering what they think Osoff should apologize for? Innuendo? How? If they’re going to bitch about misogyny they should go back to 2024 and read all the posts on Kamala. I think SHE deserves an apology. And I’m sorry diaper/printer girl had bone cancer but does that mean she can do no wrong or never be crazy enough to get called out? I read that she accompanies trump at night in his private quarters. And where is his wife? Is he still married???

Neal Stiffelman's avatar

A few people are realizing that these clowns are not invulnerable. And the clowns are panicking. Like, immediately panicking. That tells a lot.

devourerofpancakes's avatar

Jesse Watters, of all people, admitted that Trump says terrible things about people all the time! What is happening? Although "I don’t think he’s very upset about the comment." doesn't seem quite accurate since Trump unloaded on the CNN reporter who asked him simply if he had a response.

HI2thDoc's avatar

The 0.1% of Watters's character that isn't POS leaked through somehow. Will wonders never cease!

Dave Drell's avatar

Maybe his momma slapped him and told him to STFU??

I think someone needs to check and to see if the Found Object had been temporarily replaced by a more realistic and better puppet. Perhaps AI.

HI2thDoc's avatar

Nuh. Not at Fox

Stephanie Lajeskie's avatar

But did Natalie climb into the catering cart with Dear Leader?

Joanne's avatar

She did! It was her, Walt Nauta, and Dan Scavino that were in the cart with Trump.

Jeff Tiedrich's avatar

and Piss-Drunk Pete

Joyce's avatar

But......not the very marginal Secretary of State. #4 in the line of succession. #6 got to ride in the catering cart.

serenity's avatar

Hey, pete actually walked up the stairs and didn't ride in the cart. I guess he was supposed to show that it was a lesser flight, all things normal.

Joe Bacon's avatar

Bet she had a can of Lysol spray handy to mask all of Daddy's farting in that cart!

HI2thDoc's avatar

To me in order to spend so much time close to him means she has lost her olfactory sense.

Mizz Natalie is quite a find

I wonder what's in her mind

In order to adore

Who most others abhor

Can't she smell and is she blind?

Joe Witkowski's avatar

Hopefully that cart was scrapped. No longer food appropriate or sanitary enough

Teresa G's avatar

What I said on another post.

Surprisingly it has not been said much. First thing I thought of when I read he was in that vehicle

Natalia Lincoln's avatar

Mask it? When she could bask in it?

Betsy L's avatar

I want to remind Megyn Kelly that Jon Ossoff didn't say stuff that will ruin Natalie Harp's image forever. Natalie Harp did that all on her own, trailing Trump all over the place, sleeping in a Bedminster locker room, jumping into a Secret Service SUV trunk, leaving him notes about her feelings for Trump all over the place, and following him everywhere with the suck-up printer. She's not being subtle about any of it. If her reputation is ruined forever, it's all on her.

Joyce's avatar

It's wholly the performative howler monkeys that ruined Nurse Natty's image, with all of their posts about what Ossoff DIDN'T actually say: the howlers are the ones who have come up with all the slanderous comments.

Dave Drell's avatar

She’s campaigning to be #4 dumb blonde wife. Once he croaks she can rake in millions.

Betsy L's avatar

Hmmm, maybe, but I think Melanoma's determined to stick with it till the end.

DuduLovesBubu's avatar

Hopefully Nat and Daddy will be a frequent cold open on SNL this fall.

Angie Longenecker's avatar

On another note, did anyone see the WH OO, where tRUMP was giving an accommodation to a 13 yo BOY who saved another child in the ocean near Santa Cruz, CA.

This is the event where tPLUMP attacked the CNN correspondent to be “quiet” and that she was from “fake news”. Then he turned to the 13 yo boy and asked him if he (tRUMP) wasn’t right? Throwing a 13 yo hero under the bus for his nasty comment!! What a complete ass!

Dave Drell's avatar

He throws everyone under the bus… he’ll eventually throw the bus under the bus!

Leu2500's avatar

wasn't he 16?

devourerofpancakes's avatar

Thanks, I didn't know what the event was. I thought it was a regular presser.
