But I agree with the punditry. He's gone over the top. Oh sure, the worst of the worst of the worst of MAGA loves it. Everyone else, knows this is 100% certified, grade AAA fascism. Moreover, having grown up during the height of the cold war, and our running dog war mongers (guess which party) kept putting us on the brink of nuclear armageddon, Ron Reagan especially, despite the arms reduction treaties he negotiated with a weakened Soviet Premier, this BS really fucking scares me. According to Thom Hartmann, there's a new USPS rule about postmarks. Mail pieces are now marked when they're processed, NOT when they're received. There could be a lag of a day or so. Meaning that more mail-in ballots can now technically be tossed for being late. Mail ballots way early!

I live in Oregon. You can mail your ballot, use a drop box, or take it right to the Elections Board. The point is, the County (which is the political entity which oversees elections in our state) has a paper record of your vote. Your ballot, which is certified by your signature, is kept under lock and key. Counting votes is done by mechanical means under human supervision. This is the most secure way to certify (and recertify, if necessary) an election.

Do you really think entrusting your ballot to proprietary systems and machines designed by engineers and AI, constantly updated, (usually because of bugs and glitches), after being sent over other proprietary systems (apps and whatever devices you use to send email) is a better idea? Do you think Elon Musk, et al., aren’t out there trying like hell to hack electronic voting systems? Please think again about this.

Expand full comment
Elizabeth Schulz's avatar

Musk et al have already been fucking with the machines: frump blurted it out about the 2024 election. I, for one, vote IN person and walk MY ballot to the machine (which I know is watched over carefully BY Democratic volunteers - the republicans are on the other side of the room where they still direct my husband since he's still registered as one, lol - mostly so he can keep an eye on them. The sole thing he cannot do is vote in a primary, which he's willing to sacrifice AND be inundated with all of the magat garbage. He doesn't mind, he doesn't read mail OR email). But it's a way of keeping track of 'them' and the volunteers in our area are straight shooters. Then again, our entire area are good people for the most part. What the issue is, are those citizens living Overseas or those with dual citizenship who have no choice BUT to mail their ballot, as well as our military members whose ballots I'M sure get fucked with IF they know the member's leanings..

We are talking about living in another country where you cannot drop box and you can only mail. My daughter and I mailed ours together last election. It cost 7€ to send it and hers was recorded as received 10 days after mine. Now the German postal system has slowed down and they let us all know things will take longer. Fortunately we request to get our ballots by email, so the only snail mail used is to mail it back. Many countries are not having a very reliable mail system. I envy people who live in states where they can email in their ballots. We get notified when our board of elections receives the ballots.

It's a damn shame, but that's what 77 million Americans were satisfied with so long as this pricktator could smash the minorities they hate. Absent any *admissible* evidence that he was falsely elected (especially with the people crowing post-election day that they successfully 'punished' Kamala Harris), I have no reason to believe they didn't want it.

A mobster is fine as long as this mobster is hurting people. That's the power of sadopopulism.

There is a chance for a semblance of a check though: a Democratic impeachment+removal-sized majority in the United States Congress. So check your registration and check it often...especially if you live in an unreconstructed state-based regime of terror.

Yep. We know that for the last two elections, at least, there have been all kinds of GOP dirty tricks. Last time, there was the question of Elon's hacker posse having altered voting software codes, as evidenced by various anomalies in results. And AFAIK, nothing has been done about any of it. Greg Palast has sounded the alarm repeatedly, and Mark Elias has worked tirelessly on the legal front, but I don't think changes have been made.

Who the fork is responsible for taking care of this stuff? The state Democrats could get computer programmers to research this. Musk's monkeys arent the only people who know their way a software glitch.

Expand full comment
Denise Donaldson's avatar

Per my reading, only the candidate in question (Harris) can ask for an audit/recount. The DNC might have researched after the fact, but if they did, they ain't sayin' nothin'.

I'm sure states could do forensic analyses, if they had the will and the funds. But if there was a program inserted that would lie dormant until time to tabulate the votes, and afterward it self-deleted, it would be hard to trace. It might be too late to try to do anything after the fact, anyway.

Democrats are always playing with fucking nothing. Many are reluctant to condemn Trump's invasion because they might appear weak against a sitting war president. How could they appear any weaker? Any opposition from them now is on proceduralist grounds, i.e., only Congress has the power to authorize war. GOP is saying this isn't a war, it's a judicial move, like Noriega's extradition. Republicans are adept at having it all ways.

THANK YOU!

It’s so annoying when people come up with Debbie Downer comments when you’re trying to be positive about fighting back. “Oh, he won’t let us vote in the midterms!” I had that response yesterday to a note, and I replied, “Then we need to get a militia together.” Their whole attitude is “Gee, I guess we just lay down and die now.”

I, for one, don't have a lay-down-and-die attitude. But neither do I think free and fair midterms are going to "just happen." The GOP cheated bigly last time. And if Fuckwit invokes the Insurrection Act, as he's mentioned more than once, what's to be done? Your idea of a militia might be the only answer. The point is, seeing clear danger ahead is not being a downer; it's being realistic.

It's annoying to me when people just automatically assume there will be free and fair midterms, and the Dems will win the House, and then the reconstruction can begin. It's not a done deal, by any means. Greg Palast and Mark Elias need an army behind them, and pretending it's not so puts us further in the hole. IMO.

Expand full comment
Denise Donaldson's avatar

I read something earlier about having hope but still not being optimistic. That pretty much sums up the way I feel. I don't think anything can be assumed or taken for granted. Other than that Rump and his minions will continue to lie and grift, of course.

Expand full comment
Yarnartist's avatar

You don’t think they’ll be watching Elon like hawks this time?

Expand full comment
Denise Donaldson's avatar

Um, no, I don't. I see at least a couple dozen, "Just wait 'til the midterms. Then we'll fix 'em!" posts every day or two. I think many (most?) Dems are just blind to what went down last time.

Besides, how would anyone know what Elon is up to? He wouldn't personally touch anything. He has resources everywhere. He could place a call from anywhere and get it done. The entire point of being a black hat is making it as difficult as possible for anyone else to find a trail. His DOGE boys have likely backdoor-ed everything they touched, as just one example.

Despite all the anomalies in 2024 (e.g., Rump winning every single swing state), the Dems caved before all the votes were even counted. Harris refused to ask for audits. Palast warned over and over that there was hijacking going on, and no one listened. Do I think anything will change this year? Nope. Absent some major upheaval, the Rs will still be in charge on Election Day. Think they'll call out any shenanigans if Rs win? Think the DNC will grow a spine? Nope.

Sorry---very long answer to very short question.

Expand full comment
Yarnartist's avatar

I hope you’re wrong. Musk and Krasnov actually talked about Musk rigging the election before the 2024 election, and a few people noticed, but it wasn’t until after the fact when people started actually looking at what happened that they sat up and said “Day-um! They really ARE that evil!” They can’t overturn the 2024 results now because Congress already certified Krasnov as president. But GOING FORWARD, in 2026, we can take back Congress. And if, as someone suggested to me recently, they send ICE to stop people from voting, I think that might very well be the start of a civil war. Which is probably what Krasnov wants, so Krusty Gnome can have her goons try to un-alive us all. Anything to avoid releasing the Epstein files.
