Sociopathy is not a term in psychology

Expand full comment
Denise Donaldson's avatar

As I understand it, it's part of or a common synonym for antisocial personality disorder, which is detailed in the DSM. According to my reading, the lines between that and psychopathy are blurred, but psychopathy is characterized by delusions. But IANAP.

Theresa Palmer's avatar

Sure it is. We use it all the time. A "conduct disorder" describes younger people with those traits. In adulthood we call it "sociopathy." Sociopaths are intelligent plotters; often good-looking people; manipulative, without a sense of guilt, without empathy for others. Transactional, as it benefits them, and with no thought as to whom it might injure.

I think that we can reasonably conclude that anyone who becomes extremely rich and powerful, is very likely a sociopath. It's a prequalification for the position. Sociopaths are generally troublesome to others, but not dangerous.

Problem is, that tRump is also a psychopath, and thus seeks that quality in all of his appointments, which makes them all dangerous.

Even if Trump were still in full possession of his faculties it wouldn't matter. Project 2025 was never Trump's personal agenda. The only part he cares about is the part where the President gets to do whatever he wants. Starting with when he first claimed to be a Christian he's pandered to the Christian Nationalist/White Supremacist movement in order to establish a solid base. They kiss his ass, and they can do whatever they want.

Not so sure he really should get credit for starting this mess. The Federalist Society hi-jacking of the Supreme Court was essentially a done deal if any Republican had won in 2016. He simply took advantage of the existing Republican infrastructure and they were more than happy to use him as a scapegoat. The Big Beautiful Bull is a good example. Obama also said that under Trump and the Republicans, every day is like Halloween but all tricks and no treats.

Ignorance has taken over America. Trump is just their poster boy. 100 years ago the Republicans killed America and Democrats had to bring it back around and were able to keep it alive for nearly 50 years. I have been here since Truman and the Republicans have been trying to run America into the ground all of my life.

I really think that Trump is going to retreat to the bunker under the former East Wing and start a nuclear war. Hopefully the bunker will be his tomb.

Well done Jeff. Captured the sick greedy spirit of this whole ruinous crowd of lap dogs.

On their behalf, I resent the insult to lapdogs. Our shih tzu is intelligent and loving, and the pug we had years ago was wicked smart. The people at Fuckwit's party? Not in the least.
