your hero of the day, by the way, is Curtis Fucking Sliwa, who when given the opportunity by a reporter to shit-talking Mamdani, instead took the high road.

https://www.threads.com/@thedatanerd13/post/DS-r5UbDTzS

Reporter: “Will you ask New Yorkers who voted for you to give Zohran Mamdani a chance?”

Sliwa: “Absolutely. He won a majority. He has a mandate. The Masters of the Universe, the billionaires, did everything they could to make sure he wasn’t the mayor. It didn’t work. He’s a great organizer.”

good for Curtis. he would have been one of the last people I would have expected to show grace in defeat, and I'm happy to have been wrong about that

HI2thDoc's avatar

In the Age of tRump, the right wing high road has been all but obliterated by a landslide of immature bullshit. Good for Sliwa for finding a way around it.

kathiallyson's avatar

Pardon me, but when was there ever a right-wing high road? Never in my recent memory.

HI2thDoc's avatar

In the 2008 presidential campaign, at one of his rallies, John McCain corrected an old woman who claimed Obama was a Muslim. He called Obama a decent man who he differed with on policy. I admired McCain greatly even though he was a conservative.

kathiallyson's avatar

Not terribly "recent," to quote myself 😄, but definitely a glimpse of the right wing's high road. I too am a person not generally fond of conservatives who did like and admire John McCain.

The Devil Kitty's avatar

McCain had his own issues, but I don't doubt his honor. Frankly, I feel like the last Republican to be more than a mud slinger died when he passed. No one expects anything better from MAGA, but I still feel trusting the "never Trumpers" is a bad idea. They helped pave the road Trump used with long policies lacking empathy, and none of them seem sorry about that. Let them help get the regime out- but don't vote them in.

2Cats2Furious's avatar

Sliwa certainly showed a hell of a lot more grace than Andrew Cuomo.

Between Mamdani, Brad Lander, and Sliwa, it sure seems like the leading candidates in the last NYC mayoral election HATE Cuomo. Lander (who cross-endorsed Mamdani in the Democratic primary) and Sliwa weren’t even upset that Mamdani beat them, as long as it meant Cuomo lost. That’s some next level hate, and I am here for it.

Joyce's avatar

Up until his taking the high road over Mamdani's being sworn in, the only positive about Sliwa was the burning hatred of Cuomo.

It's so, so difficult when someone awful scores not just one good point....but two. I guess it just proves that almost all human beings are complicated.*

*exceptions: Adolf Hitler, DJtRump: they're just piles of shit

HI2thDoc's avatar

Piles of shit are only good for raising maggots and MAGAts

I was very surprised to find out Cuomo was going to run again, after the goatfuck during Covid. But then, I was very surprised to find out Prez Dumfuck was going to run again, after the goatfuck of Jan. 6th. Go figure.

A.J. Madison's avatar

Dumpsterfire had a choice. Go to fucking jail, or run for president. He chose not to go to jail. Too bad, jail might extend his lifespan. Sure, he'd be stuck inside 4 walls, and could only play golf when permitted. Wait, isn't that what DumpsterFireFuckHead is doing now? Still, after this idiotic nightmare is over, we the people will erase him, every last bit of him, including his idiotic underground bunker & his grotesque ballroom. Which I'm betting won't even have walls up when he dies. My money on is dying in office. Haven't had one of those for awhile.

Susie in OH's avatar

And does he seriously think he can play golf securely after taking Maduro and his wife? I would never feel safe ever again down there. Seems a lot more risky.

A.J. Madison's avatar

DumpInPants thinks he will live forever. Okay, he's been thinking about his plea for admission before Saint Peter, so he knows the end is nigh. But he does think he's invulnerable with his secret service protection, and maybe he is, from domestic psychos. But as we learned with 9/11 if you're willing to die in an act of terrorism, there's only so much one can do. And pissing off some radical organized crime lords south of the border is asking for trouble.

The Devil Kitty's avatar

I can provide a third- he's apparently very devoted to cat rescue. Not getting on with humans, and adoring and being adored by cats really seems to indicate he would be better suited to a rescue than politics. (That's an opinion, of course.)

George in Atlanta's avatar

Ok, that's some news I can use. Makes total sense. Cats are excellent judges of character. Those of us of the rescue persuasion do usually find humans problematic at best and loathsome at worst. Most of us would make crap politicians, what with our Stage Three Tourettes, and all.

The Devil Kitty's avatar

I might be biased, but cat rescues are often far more useful than politicians.

George in Atlanta's avatar

No bias at all, objective fact. When the trappers bring us a momcat, preggers with 6 kittens, 7 lives are saved. Politicians get no results, they don't accomplish shit unless we force them to.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Grace and Cuomo are strangers. Cuomo is trash and easy to hate.

SeekingReason's avatar

I fully adore Mamdani for doing what is required to get on the road to recovery. Revoke the previous asswipe’s orders. We need a Dem who will do that the second they enter office. Second act…round up all pardoned J6ers..they’re seditionists and not qualified for pardons. Take all actions needed to reverse all the BS trump did. Then say what he did…show me the written word that says I can’t! And ignore THAT.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

I don't know what's involved in revoking pardons — it may not be possible — but maybe some of them can be recharged, especially on a state level.

Rosemary Orlandi's avatar

the j6ers are in ice , there will be plenty to charge them with.....

SeekingReason's avatar

Anastasia, I’m hoping the entire presidency can be revoked. Trump IS DEFINITELY a seditionist. It is illegal for him to take office. We need to find a way to make it null and void. Make news laws to do so if necessary. But our Constitution spells out that Seditionists are ineligible…so we should merely follow the law.

Excellent Linda, educating citizens about their rights concerning voting. Thanks!

Linda Weide's avatar

Celeste, Democrats Abroad and Indivisible Abroad are starting their GOTV right now. At dinner tonight we were discussing who has already sent off their vote from abroad ballot request. Several of us sent them off today. We need to sign up each year to do this. In addition, we are trying to inform US citizens who were born abroad that they have the right to vote, just as they are required to file US taxes.

Given that many European countries are changing their mailing service, and the US mail is considered untrustworthy under Trump, those of us who live in states that do not allow us to email our ballots are worried about our votes being counted. It has been under discussion for the past month in our chat groups.

The Devil Kitty's avatar

Some cat people like other humans, but um, apparently not him. He might do better with a rescue than in politics.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

I would never vote for him but he is a serious cat person.

The Devil Kitty's avatar

Linda Weide's avatar

Mamdani also showed grace in his acceptance speech towards the crooked Eric Adams who was there with his mother.

He now sees exactly how much his big orange pumpkin head buddy is DESPISED in New York so is quickly changing course. Is it 'grace' or a plan for his own political future? Time will tell. I won't be here for it - but many of you will be. Send me messages to let me know, is all I ask. :)

RFKJr. Naeglaria Fowleri or The Brain Eating Amoeba.

Triple that dose, Donnyboy!!!

AuntTeeFa's avatar

Mingo's avatar

Care to indulge in my own theory of what is going on with Don the Con's health that's on a downward trajectory. Maybe his doctors want to decrease the amount of aspirin he takes every day because it's interfering with other blood thinners he's on because he's had a stroke. Due his narcissism he's not following doctors orders because he thinks he's smarter than them. His CT scan of the abdomen may show the result of a GI bleed from all the aspirin he refused to quit taking. Therefore he's complicit in his own demise (oh joy). Add in maybe he's been popping antacids for heartburn/reflux because of the shitty diet he consumes everyday. Am I even in the ballpark?

Stephen Brady's avatar

I think his underlying problem is a progressive dementia on top of a baseline low IQ. Add to that his multiple toxic personality disorders and we have someone manifestly unqualified to hold the job of president.

Chet Brandt's avatar

One can only hope that your hypothesis holds up!

Marla's avatar

TBH, I had an abdominal U/S because I have cankles my own self. In an attempt to find the cause, I have been scanned from my neck (carotids) to my toes, including my abdomen. I had a bunch of other tests and procedures in an attempt to find a cause, but no go. I just have cankles.

I also take a full-strength aspirin daily, but then again, I have a genetic clotting disorder and am prone to DVT.

Come on, blood clot. Do your thing (not me, you know who).

Mingo's avatar

steve robertshaw's avatar

I agree 100% - please have him take more! It doesn't look like 325 mg daily has any more effect on hemorrhagic stroke occurrence than 81 mg/day does (recent study with 15,000 patients , courtesy of Google AI search). Slower blood clotting from the effects on platelet aggregation, of course, but not spontaneous bleeds in brain vessels.

Wendy The Druid 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🌈's avatar

Cardiologists often clarify that aspirin therapy is prescribed based on individual risk factors—age, blood pressure, existing conditions.

Teri Springer's avatar

Yes, but never 325mg/day of aspirin. Eliquis would be easier to control. I was on 81mg/day and just gently tapping the back of my hand against a door jam led to a lump of blood the size of a half golfball on the back of my hand. I finally had to wean off the daily ASA entirely because I was bruising too easily. At 325mg/day, it's amazing he hasn't had a hemorrhagic stroke.

Jeff, He is now overdosing daily on aspirin. If that isnt a sign he's afraid of cardiac shit, I dont know what is. I mean think about it, forced aspirin therapy?

Trump's pushing aspirin as a cardiovascular cure-all, ignoring decades of nuanced medical research that shows it helps some people and kills others through internal bleeding. We're talking about actual fucking bodies—your grandmother's stomach lining, your uncle's brain hemorrhage risk—being pawns in a political theater where "traditional medicine" means whatever Fox News said last Tuesday. The FDA's explicit guidelines? Complicated. Trump's take? "Everyone should take it." Medical professionals are already bracing for the ER visits from people who hear "aspirin" and start popping them like Tic Tacs.

There was a very interesting PBS Program about the Seminole Indians being forced Off of their land in Florida by white men (natch) And banished to the Everglades.

But, Native Americans instead of rotting and dying off as they had hoped, being Deeply attuned To earth and their surroundings found amazing uses for all of the nature around them.

Willow was especially useful to them not just for construction, but for the use of its bark for medicine. Years later, White man (of course) stole their secret And voilà, aspirin was “invented”

I’ve been asked that before. Safe ? No—willow bark converts to the same salicylic acid as aspirin. It still risks bleeding in your stomach through your bloodstream, even if absorbed differently.

Nice summary of the sucky week Wendy!

Mingo's avatar

Let DJT and the MAGA's bleed out. Get rid of millions of undesirables. We'll wind up paying for them because their ACA subsidies are gone, expired, by the feckless GOP. Yeah, we're back to uncompensated medical care to bankrupt health care entities.

Wendy, of course he always tells the truth meaning he probably takes more but it’s the speed that will age him and blood pressure cannot be good.

What really grinds is the way the press treated Biden compared to the egg shell dance with tRump. The unfortunate horror show during that debate notwithstanding, it felt as if the press was chomping at the bit to rage about every stammer, every stutter - something that Biden has done since childhood.

If the leaked document of all the feel good drugs the White House pharmacy was doling out during tRump 1.0 is any indication, they're probably loading tRump with all manner of stimulants and happy meds intravenously with an IV. Case in point - that Oval Office love fest with Mamdani. IMO - the prez was high as fuck. His mood has definitely been on a major roller coaster for some time now. He's old, he's very sick, and he is a massive POS. It's all so fucking stupid, and it continues to get worse. By the hour.

As always, thanks for getting us through 2025. 2026 is already shaping up to be possibly even more stupid and terrifying. The humor and analysis help so much with processing all this madness.

I'm still furious about the three weeks of saturation coverage about Biden's (nonexistent) "cognitive decline," when they have yet to devote 1/100th of the coverage to Trump's blatant cognitive decline. Sure, Biden was tired and out of sorts, and yes, he stutters. He made a completely coherent 15 minute speech to an LGBTQ group a few weeks ago and one rightwing outlet made a huge deal about how he stumbled over one word. But if there were a cognitive face-off between Biden and Trump, it's clear Biden would win bigly.

2Cats2Furious's avatar

Sadly, the press assumed correctly that Biden would never sue them over their shit, whereas they KNOW the Mad King is just itching to file another baseless defamation lawsuit.

Leu2500's avatar

They should be eager to do it. Truth is a defense to defamation. Ask for his medical records & see how fast he drops the lawsuit.

arne link's avatar

He practically gave Mamdani a French kiss. It was so weird. He was obviously high AF.

May his stool be as black as his soul.

Teri Springer's avatar

He has a soul? I thought he traded that to Satan years ago.

Clint Opine's avatar

He didn't actually have a soul to trade. He even ripped off Satan!

Sooz Hall's avatar

He *thinks* he did. Note how LDFF is now whimpering about how maybe possibly perhaps kinda sorta is heaven going to be one of his post death options??… Satan is laughing and laughing. Putin got moved up one level in Hell for bringing in LDFF and several of his crew. Provided of course that Satan keeps his promises…

Kristy Kanen's avatar

He IS doing a lot of bleeding, with the insane amount of aspirin he's takeing,

so he's probably got a bleeding ulcer

that makes your stool look like black coffe grounds.

Mingo's avatar

Maybe that's why he smells so bad. When I worked in critical care we hated the GI bleeds because they stunk up the unit.

I love the MAGA morons warning about Mamdani given they support a convicted felon, rapist and likely pedophile. Yes, please tell us how dangerous he and Bernie Sanders are to your children knowing you'd whore out your own children for a chance to shake Cankles'rotting hand.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Because Bernie is threatening them with universal healthcare. The horror.

Leu2500's avatar

Bernie backed Mamdani & swore him in as mayor at the formal inauguration.

MzNicky in East Jesus, TN's avatar

Yes, because Bernie will force all children into transgendery.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Oh, they say that about all Democrats. They used that to beat Sherrod Brown in 2024 alone with threatening that a trans woman would rape your daughter in a public restroom, when in fact it would probably be a MAGA "pastor" doing that.

arne link's avatar

I thought that all the kids had already been transed at school during lunch period? Is that wrong?

Mark Slattery's avatar

As a teacher, I can tell you indoctrination occurs during homeroom and surgeries are performed by the lunch ladies but only on Sloppy Joe Day.

If 325mg of aspirin is better, wouldn't 650mg be twice as good? Hell why not throw in some Plavix and warfarin to get that blood from forming those pesky clots. Think of it as STP for the circulatory system. I for one am pleased that Trump is doing his own research and following his own medical advice. Gonna be a hell of a year.

Joe Witkowski's avatar

He needs more medical advice from RFK Jr

Jayme Wolworth's avatar

So Trump had a CT Angiogram and not an MRI? That checks out. They were looking to see how much damage he's done to his heart with all the stimulants that he's taken and all the Big Macs that he's eaten. I said months ago (when he was falling asleep constantly) that the doctors must have told him he needed to stop with the uppers unless he wanted to die (damn doctors) and that's why he falls asleep all the time now.

Most likely he still takes them when he needs to "perform" later than 6 oclock at night, can't dance to YMCA when your not pumped up on Adderall now can ya.

I'm not convinced that his hand problem comes from IV's either. You would think they could use a vein farther up his arm to give him IV drugs and stop all the controversy about his rotten hand. It's gonna be a mystery because we will never be told the truth from this administration about anything.

Happy New Year

I wouldn't be surprised if he had a cardiac calcium CT scan, which is essentially a quick way to check one's arteries if there is no evidence of heart issues. I had one last fall at age 68 to establish a baseline (all clear). However, neither Medicare nor my secondary insurance paid for it, as I have no evidence of heart/artery issues. Yeah, idiot insurance companies, it's called preventative care to ensure I DON'T develop heart/artery issues and then die since women rarely have chest pains when their hearts go wonky.

"we’re either being lied to now, or were lied to then. I’m not sure which is the better scenario."

Well, no need to ponder it - I'm pretty sure NEITHER thing is true.

2Cats2Furious's avatar

Honestly, I think he had a brain scan to track his dementia and they’re leaving that part out.

SeekingReason's avatar

And then he forgets why he had the scan and thinks he had another “genius” test by medical staff. 😂

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

A top-tier physician who sloppily confuses an MRI with a CT scan is taking too much aspirin. Or maybe Trump is getting his doctors from the same agency who sends him his lawyers.
