I should start sharing my outtakes.

"who talks like this — the towns, the villages? does Donny imagine he’s living in 18-century Bavaria?" is a line that originally ran right below Donny's 'enemy within' remark.

I love it, but I took it out because it fucked with the flow of the piece

Jayme Wolworth's avatar

Speaking of Villages - The Villages Dem Party is having a "get out and vote" event today and the parking lots are full - and that's hard to do with golf carts! Victor Shi posted on Xitter that there are thousands of carts. My Aunt and Uncle are there and say it's wild! GO BLUE FLORIDA!

arne link's avatar

Awesome news. I thought The Villages were solid red. Maybe they realized that the Nazis were coming for their social security and Medicare benefits. 'Bout time.

Jayme Wolworth's avatar

My aunt moved there from California and was surprised to find a very active dem community. They are still outnumbered but there was a huge cart parade yesterday and there are a lot more Dems now than when she moved there 8 years ago. The demographic is becoming more liberal than decades ago.

Beth Moss Mahar's avatar

Maybe that's what Trump meant when he said the evil dems are invading the towns, the villages"! You never know how his 2 brain cells work.

Cat Cafe's avatar

omg Beth, I think you're absolutely right! He is always only talking about his own tiny self and things that affect himself.

Nan B's avatar

Villages had 400+ golf carts for Kamala

Michael M's avatar

I wanna see a golf car standoff, maybe a golf car smash-up derby between the Dems and the redhats. Watch the redhats tip over in their golf carts under the weight of their Trump flags.

They used to be. The times, they are a'changing!

Ooh I need to go find that on IG somewhere—thanks!

Also there was video of hundreds of Harris/Walz supporters walking through raggedy ass old St Augustine yesterday! Past all the junk stores selling ultra magat gear, it was glorious!!

Rebecca Elliott's avatar

I mailed my ballot off early this morning! YES, I VOTED...blue up and down the ticket. LOL, several positions only had Republicans running (mostly judicial positions), and I glaringly left those blank!

Deborah L Ovall's avatar

Early voted in Ohio on the 9th, blue all the way down and yes to Issue 1, and I'm so much calmer now! Even voted myself to pay more taxes for our FD and EMS, it felt so good! I also left all the single candidate Repuglicans blank. Fuck yeah voting!

Rebecca Elliott's avatar

I just wish that someone would take note of how many "Republican only" positions are left blank.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

May the deity of their choice bless them. They are brave as hell given the greedy MAGAt developer that owns the place.

Xitter.

Pronounced "shitter," right?

I just got a chuckle. I was thinking the same thing. "The towns the villages"! Maybe from an old Christmas carol? DT's unconscious is a thing of wonder.

DEAD PERSON: I don't want to go on the cart!

CUSTOMER: Oh, don't be such a baby.

CART MASTER: I can't take him.

DEAD PERSON: I feel fine!

CUSTOMER: Well, do us a favor.

CART MASTER: I can't.

The flow is the polish. . . . The finish has to be perfect.

Doc Blase''s avatar

"Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good."

-B. Obama

Kathleen Weber's avatar

Flow is a basic concept of writing. You can't tell a craftsman to do less than he's capable of doing. Do you tell your surgeon not to be careful? We read Jeff because he's funny and because he's a fine literary craftsman. It is obvious that he is funny—his literary craft comes in the clarity and smooth delivery.

As for the proverb, it is way older than Obama. I assume you know that Voltaire lived in the 18th century.

Google: The phrase "Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good" is commonly attributed to French philosopher Voltaire, who originally said "Le mieux est l'ennemi du bien" which translates to "The best is the enemy of the good" in French; essentially meaning that striving for perfection can prevent you from taking action and achieving something good.

Doc Blase''s avatar

Thanks for the lecture.

Kathleen Weber's avatar

If you understood writing, you'd be the one delivering it.

I also love it. He’s such a fucking asshole. I’m so afraid we will get him again. She is sinking and he is rising and she needs to attack him for his fascism and his threats in plain language. He is a FASCIST. But maybe the American populace has been so pounded and lied to and gaslighted for so long that now a majority wants a fascist and Project 2025 out of exhaustion. I can’t believe what is happening. He is called out on NOTHING. He is a convicted felon, and he is talking about radical left “criminals”? My panic rises on the daily.

PJ Schuster's avatar

I’m getting really upset, angry that the Harris/Walz campaign is spending no time & money to address those really egregious lies he tells about her.

I realize they can’t waste too much time on that bc he tells so many, but at least do the ones that really turn people against her.

My younger sister says she could never vote for Kamala bc she’s a communist. The example she gave was that video clip that shows her, probably back when she was AG, saying that “Yes, we will come in your house & make sure you are storing your guns safely.” I know that’s not something that would happen, I have no idea who she’s speaking to in the vid, maybe a friend or relative?, but to the conservative gun lovers, those are fighting words.

My sister texted “If she comes in MY house, she’s getting shot.” It was like she took it as if a scenario like that could truly happen.

I wish they would make an ad explaining that video & also the one where a woman talks about her daughter, who has sickle cell disease, had missed a lot of school due to that.

The woman says she notified the school about her daughter’s chronic condition & yet she ended up being arrested & charged, jailed. Things like these are being widely circulated & they strike a deep chord of anger.

I want to see the campaign fight back with the truth.

Rick Calegari's avatar

Next time you talk your sister, you may want to remind her that Trump's buddy Putin started with the KGB back in 1975. With Putin's desire to see the US pull out of NATO and with Trump being the stooge who would consider such an insane move, nothing screams communism louder than this crap.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

About that case:

"She lived in Orange County, which is a fairly conservative, "law and order" type of county. The district attorney there was up for reelection, and he did a big truancy sweep under this law, which Kamala Harris had fought for when she was the D.A. of San Francisco and oversaw its implementation when she was attorney general. There was a big sweep, and one of the parents arrested that morning and perp-walked in front of some cameras was Cheree Peoples.

Big picture, [Peoples's case] was one of the most extreme examples of how this law was used. More broadly, what the law did was create a more standardized way for local law enforcement officials to get involved with making sure kids go to school every day. And so very few parents were arrested and perp walked in this really punitive and splashy way. But what did happen to a lot of families is that they were ushered into a system that asked parents: Why can't why can't you get your act together? Why can't you send your kids to school?...

"I thought it was really interesting to look at [Harris's] involvement in this issue, because she didn't invent the idea of punishing parents when their kids miss school. California already had a law on its books. Her innovation was to build a really standardized way for local district attorneys to get involved in pressuring parents to make sure their kids go to school. And a lot of education advocates were happy that she brought attention to the issue, because they say attention is actually the number one way we solve truancy. They think it's really important to call people's attention to the fact that, Hey, it adds up when your kids miss school. What Harris also intended to do was to build a system where the school district officials, teachers and parents could all sit down and talk through the problems: Why isn't your kid coming to school? What are the resources that we could give you to help make sure that your child goes to school every day? And what she sort of layered on top of that was, You will get a series of increasingly scary warnings from the district attorney if this problem doesn't get solved. And that's what people really put their finger on as what they disliked about this program: As the [absenteeism] issue continues, the blame increasingly turns toward the parents. The message becomes: We're giving you everything. Why can't you make this work? So when Kamala Harris is spinning up this idea in San Francisco, who supported it, and who was opposed to it?...

I think she zeroed in on this for a couple of reasons. When she was the San Francisco district attorney, she was learning things about who were the city's homicide victims and who was committing homicides. And in both cases, she found that a lot of them were high school dropouts. And that's when she started to think about truancy, because missing a lot of school is linked to dropping out of school.

The way she described why she wanted to get involved was, "We need to do things differently." But I also think she knew that, at the time in the mid-2000s, there wasn't really a political downside to saying, "These parents are not meeting their responsibilities, it's causing problems for society at large, and we should crack down on them for the good of the children."

The law passed with pretty broad support...After we reported on Cheree's case, Harris talked about regretting that some district attorneys had used this law, which she had fought for with good intentions, to crack down really hard on and to criminalize the parents. She has talked a lot about how her law was intended to give schools the tools to make sure parents work with them to solve these problems.

I really wish President Biden would use his presidential immunity powers to arrest these assholes, throw them in jail and charge Donnie Diaperload with inciting violence. Fk that guy.

CAM from 🇨🇦's avatar

I was about to say the same thing. Why can’t the FBI under the leadership of Biden put an end to this moron for using hate speech to incite violence. Arrest TMF, and put him in jail until his trial. He is a serious threat to the rule of law and I very much fear the aftermath of the election whether he wins or loses. Read Joyce Vance’s latest substack talking about good old General Flynn. That in itself sent shivers down my spine. The time to deal with him is now, not on Nov 5 or 6th.

Jayme Wolworth's avatar

It's Garlands FBI - maybe that's why they haven't done shit about it.

Beth Moss Mahar's avatar

Yeah I read Joyce's article and then watched the video. Flynn was very careful not to mention the tribunals and executions, but the bit at the end was chilling, as was the crowd when they cheered for "executions". And although probably short of the definition of "incitement" the mere fact that when the audience member mentioned execution and the crowd cheered, that Flynn didn't immediately say "Whoa now, let's not go there" or words to that effect, made my blood run cold.

CAM from 🇨🇦's avatar

I’m glad that you were able to get through it. It’s incomprehensible to me that this former general was not stripped of his pension for fomenting this type of vitriol.

Time to shut him up before it’s way too late.

Robert Eckert's avatar

That's surrendering to terrorism. No, we cannot refrain from doing what is right because evil people might attack.

Kathy H's avatar

Yup, Michael Moore, for one, is calling for Biden to exercise immunity in other matters. Trumps lack of civilty is intolerable & a clear danger. I understand the concern about legality being called into question, that legal preceded hasn't been established because no one has ever so blatantly trashed all of principles of fair play. But, the line has been crossed so badly for so long, there is no way locking that POS up is "election interference", fuck him & the horse he rode in on. We have to back our Leadership in doing what is necessary, lock him up & shut this shit down. This isn't who we are & we have to stop fucking around. It's past time for these assholes to find out once & for all. We have to stand behind our leadership to do that.

Nancy Beck's avatar

Yes, but I'm hoping that Biden is waiting until after the election. The wackos would pick up their assault rifles if he does anything before the election. After Nov 5 - presidential immunity, baby!

funnyhaha's avatar

He needs to wait until after the election to keep the cultists from coming out in droves to vote for the felon out of rage. He's a smart guy, and he's not going to do anything to motivate the mouth-breathing sister-fuckers to get off their cousins and go vote.

arne link's avatar

Wow. Awesome insults. Well done.

Karen Livolsi's avatar

I’m hoping. If we have a path to stop this insanity we must use it. Waiting after the election is wise. Then Biden will know for sure he’s using the newly given powers to the President to truly save our democracy. I’ve listened to both sides. The Evangelicals are hell bent on forcing their religious beliefs on all of us through government policies and control. You can fuck that shit right there.

Next come the MAGA’s angry white men who think they’re losing their legacy and right to lord themselves over their wives and families and are mad no women want them. AKA-white trash and billionaire white trash. I’m not worried about Harris winning, she will. I’m worried about the aftermath.

Immediately revoking CFDT and warrants for every single election or former official involved with January 6th 2021 is imminent.

James Starr's avatar

exactly what i was thinking...

Patricia Williamson's avatar

And what if Donnie wins the election? What can Biden do then? Nothing.

bruce somers's avatar

Diaper Donnie has never won anything by the popular vote, and I don't believe he's going to win anything now,but president Biden still has authority until Jan 2025,and still has some options.

James Starr's avatar

yes indeed...but after the election....We dont want his cult to destroy our voting locations and prevent the election from happening...it would become an even bigger mess to sort out.

Nancy Potter's avatar

Although maybe some National Guard strategically deployed on election day near places where they know Trump cultists are planning to threaten election workers and voters should be considered.

arne link's avatar

Absolutely. The National Guard must be put on alert in all the crazy states. The sad and worrisome thing is that they are probably Trumpers so who knows how that will go?

Mr. Smith's avatar

I would bet more than half of the National Guard members are MAGA. If shit gets real, MAGAs may cleave off and join their neo confederate buddies. It would be reminiscent of the confederate Corps of Cadets splitting from West Point during the early days of the American Civil War.

James Starr's avatar

yes, we the people are thinking like that, seems rational and logical. Now if the government can just think like that, we might have a chance for a sane election

Timid, weak and beaten down older 'moderate' Dems have caused this situation....the MAGA neither respects nor fears Democrats

Kathy H's avatar

I agree that erring on the side of civilty & diplomacy had been used against us..all the way back to Nixon being pardoned. We have to fix loopholes that are being exploited, there's never been such blatant abuse of our social contracts. I think Biden tried to maintain the dignity of the office. But, it is SO good to see Harris exercising her skill & experience as a Prosecutor. I think she's doing a damn good job of holding dignity while calling out the bullshit.

HI2thDoc's avatar

James Olmsted's avatar

I have a similar wish. We have all learned not to disbelieve or ignore the hateful, violent threats that Donald Trump spews out daily. He really means them and does everything in his power to carry them out. Trump is dangerous. He will be most dangerous if he loses the presidential election. He has told us there will be violence. When that violence comes we will need Joe Biden to exercise his authority as commander in chief of the most powerful military in the world to stop it. Biden should not be timid in protecting the peaceful transition of power should Trump try to use violence to stop Kamala Harris from being sworn in as president. After all, thanks to Trump's Supreme Court, Joe Biden will have immunity from prosecution for any action he takes to protect our democracy, its institutions, the peaceful transition of power, and the next president of the United States, Kamala Harris.

Patricia Gomes's avatar

I’m wondering how long it will take the “Supremes “ to change their tune and revoke the immunity when Kamala is elected.

They will drop tRump the Idiot like a hot rock due to “medical concerns.” Vance is younger, has just as few scruples and would be more dangerous as POTUS.

You’re right, Hannah…they are very small and impossible to see by the naked eye.

Well, a lot of Canadians are watching, me included.

Mary Hall's avatar

In my next life I'm going to be Canadian.

Steve Kelly's avatar

Not just Canadians. I know a distinguished German who feels the same.

CAM from 🇨🇦's avatar

French people from France feel the same way. 2 of my grandkids live in France, dual citizens, and when you mention trump they make a 🤮 gesture. Not a pretty gesture, you’ll agree, but it certainly describes how some of us feel. A lot of your allies know full well the wrath that he will bring to our nations if we don’t toe his line.

Dave Drell's avatar

We used to be a decent place… but we still love you guys… excuse me, while I move my AR-15 over while i smooch ya!

Rhoda Ozen's avatar

Believe me they are! My ex lives in lstanbul and they’re openly mocking him and we get tossed in with TFG . Germany and France , too.

I speak to him twice a week .

Susan Kemp's avatar

Our allies are definitely horrified but even worse, they’re trying to figure out how to go forward without the US if that pos is elected. Trump wants to get us out of NATO which would have Putin laughing with glee at how his investment in him paid off so magnificently. My heart is breaking. I’m holding out hope that the polls are underestimating Harris/Walz support.

Joanne Filipo's avatar

I agree with both of you, as I’ve felt the same way for the last nine years. But at my age, I can’t give up on the optimism I’ve always felt, that we are better than this. My hope is that we obliterate him at the polls in November. And we can all sit by and watch him go to court and EVENTUALLY jail!

According to Wisconsin Dems…our state is at a RAZOR THIN outcome right now. Negative ads are being shown continuously on Harris, Walz, Baldwin…I’m sick to my stomach that these fucking idiots are THISCLOSE to destroying democracy. Pray for a fucking landslide for Harris, et. al.

Megan Ross's avatar

Harris needs to respond by flooding the airwaves with the plethora of negative press about her opponent! It's insanity...

Jayme Wolworth's avatar

That's what I've been harping on lately. Where are all the HE'S A 34 COUNT FELON - HE'S AN ADJUDICATED SEXUAL ASSAULTER - HE STOLE 1,000'S OF CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS - HE INTERFERED IN AN ELECTION - HE LIED ABOUT THE 2020 ELECTION

She sure has plenty of ammo and I'm beginning to think there's a Trump supporter that does her ads. She needs to fight fight fight back!

Though I heard from.my mail carrier friend in Milwaukee that there's a blizzard of propaganda from their side & a lot less from ours.

OTOH maybe H/W internals show Milwaukee as a lock so they don't need to spend. $ there?

OTOH Hillary took Wiscon for granted.

OTOH H/W has a billion dollars to spend...

I already voted, so excuse me while I induce a coma until Nov 6th.

Thom Hartmann said the oligarchs have $10B that they are going to start spending on Shitler's behalf. Prepare for the onslaught.

Nary a believer in little fairies in the sky Tess, but I hear you loud and clear, living a stone’s throw from Sconie and Iowa!!

Ilene Fischer's avatar

What an asshole. Biden should respond by arresting these guys and sending the national guard. This story needs to be on MSM

Cheryl Fleming's avatar

Agreed. Why doesn't he do just that? TODAY?

Dave Drell's avatar

You know- they pussy foot around, like Garland, and then the Militia will go into hiding.

Megan Ross's avatar

Exactly what I just wrote!

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

The governor of NC is certainly worthless. No action, no order for the rabid rubes to stand down. Typical.

Betsy L's avatar

The governor of NC, Roy Cooper, is a Democrat and I'm quite sure he's all over this. He's been an excellent governor, hamstrung by a veto-proof state legislature.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

It turns out that the threat was from a lone individual although WAPO had issued a report Sunday about truckloads of armed militia threatening to go "owl-shooting on FEMA workers." Associated Press: "Gov. Roy Cooper’s staff said in a statement Monday that his office was aware of “reports of threats to response workers on the ground,” as well as “significant misinformation online.” Cooper directed state law enforcement officials to work with local authorities to identify “the specific threats and rumors.”

Robert Eckert's avatar

The guy is in custody now

James Starr's avatar

exactly where is the NC national guard?

Runfastandwin's avatar

GOD DAMN THEM ALL. Garland could've stopped this YEARS ago but nooooo that evil Republican had to stand down. Biden's worst mistake he ever made was hiring that worthless lump of coal.

Cheryl Fleming's avatar

And Biden has admitted as much. Says he regrets this appointment. I bet he does. We all do.

Kay-El's avatar

1. Lol, my son in law and I were commenting yesterday that Lord McFries was wearing blackface.

2. NC is now what’s known as a Category WTF tornado, a vicious cyclone of a disaster, people trying to help, armed goons interfering, the help not getting to those that need it, those that need it complaining there is no help.

P123Sunny's avatar

Why not AT LEAST fine politicians who LIE outright? FINE THEM.

The armed militia going after FEMA workers is one of the best reasons that Jesus changed his middle name to FUCKING. Jesus Christ on a fucking cracker. And all MSNBC can report on is how tight the race is. Over and over they just repeat that it's close "within the margin of error" and telling us where the 2 candidates are traveling to today. They claim Harris' popularity has dropped "5 points in new poll" and that she's "struggling to hold on to Latino vote".

I think I may need someone to talk me down from the ledge. I just want to scream!!

Susan Niemann's avatar

"His middle name to FUCKING"... 🤣🤣🤣 Thats brilliant. And I want to scream too.

MzNicky in East Jesus, TN's avatar

MSM are squarely to blame for a lot of this clusterfuck. The Harris-Walz campaign has to fight back against them AND MAGA. WTF are they doing?

Marie Martin's avatar

Harris is fighting back. She’s setting up her own press junkets, punching up where she can be heard. Howard Stern, Call Me Daddy (or whatever it is), Colbert, The View, and more. These are the places people live now. A lot of the voters she needs onboard, do not go for traditional MSM for their “news”. If they’d stop asking stupid questions and writing up lying or shaded answers, she might reconsider. Might.

Mary Hall's avatar

For the last ten years I have been saying that when the autopsy is done on the Great American Experiment, the MSM will be found as the cause of death.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Well, Tim Walz is sharing his recipes with us. I mean, he was in the military for over 20 years and taught/coached fucking high school students. Get that killer game face on, Tim!

Kathleen Weber's avatar

💩💩💩I finally realized it— stories about polls in the MSM are nothing but click bait. They might as well have underage girls in bikinis waving the so-called poll results.🦨🦨🦨

Dave Drell's avatar

As polls seem to indicate that former president Donald Trump has momentum in some swing states with 24 days remaining until the Nov. 5 presidential election, Democratic strategist Simon Rosenberg says: Don’t buy it.

About a month ago, Rosenberg predicted that a slew of polls by Republican organizations would flood the zone, showing Trump leading — and, like clockwork, it has happened.

They lie about everything - including

“poll” results.

Beth Moss Mahar's avatar

I SOOO hope you're right.

Marie Martin's avatar

Let’s say Kamala ends up with 53% and he ends up with 47%. That’s a more than decent winning spread. But guess what, with a 3% margin of error statement to play with, it’s legit to hawk that he and she are close. That’s how I think they are doing it. That metric leaves lots of room for media to say “no, we weren’t exaggerating … it’s all within the 3% margin of error rule”.

Deb Martina's avatar

Drumpf is all but done. Too bad wingnut is there. I hope he can't be the nominee...

The news today in your article is chilling. Appreciate the humorous take but the fact is, we are really in trouble if FEMA workers are being threatened and the gqp is threatening another attack on the voting process and certifying the elections.

The whole evangelical movement is the most frightening of all as they spew out of each side of their mouths.

I don't believe the polls but I also don't trust the electoral process anymore (not that I ever did, but this is straight out alarming).

I appreciate you helping us substackers get through until this nightmare is over in a few weeks.

Marie Martin's avatar

Ray and Bob’s Militia are going to act real different when governors call on their national guard services to stop that crap.

Lisa K. Obrien's avatar

These insane, now everyday occurrences strain credulity, however I find myself still surprised at what these numbnuts get up to. I honestly can’t understand the mindset of somebody who thinks it’s not just ok, but their DUTY to threaten strangers with weapons.

No offense to those living in red states, but I am so grateful that I don’t have to. I would have been burned at the stake years ago.

MzNicky in East Jesus, TN's avatar

Pretty sure that’s what the Kremlin-esque Tennessee legislature has on its agenda.

Mingo's avatar

That color Spackle he uses is burnt umber. I suspect his dementia is getting worse because of the way he sees himself in the mirror. He doesn't see anything but his eyes, nose and mouth. I personally would like to color his face, especially his mouth with steel gray duct tape.
