I hate it when I miss nuance. from Josh Marshall:

"Biggest part of crooked Adams deal which is only barely being noted is that the charges aren't really dropped (not in the ordinary sense of the word). They're put on hold with the letter explicitly saying they'll be considered again after November. So Adams has ten months to perform for his freedom."

Not quite. I think Adams asked Trump for help. He's looking at prison time. This way, he gets Donny to bail him out and now he can delude himself into believing he has a chance to win another term as mayor. He's the idiot here. Trump will throw him under the bus.

Adams is Black, turd is being selectively racist. Save Adams from prison? Possible further career? What's THAT final cost be? See Hershall Walker, who lost in a bid for a seat in Congress. Now is Turd's Ambassador to The Bahamas. What's THAT gonna cost Walker some day?

What are you talking about? Adams' race is not the issue. Adams wants to stay out of prison. Period. He thinks he can win reelection even though everybody hates him.

I've said it before - Donnie isn't Hitler (he doesn't have the brains, or the ideals. If you asked him what his "ideals" are he'd tell you about an ideal Big Mac. . .) Who Donnie is, is Hindenburg - a doddering, right wing old fool who is the epitome of what the Right Wing voters want - and is easily ( oh, HOW easily!) manipulated by his handlers. MAGA went on and on about how Joe wasn't in charge - do they really think Donnie is?

Sadly, there is no mechanism in place for NYC voters to recall or impeach Mayor Adams. He would have to be removed from office by Governor Hochul. She probably won't but I'm going to email her the suggestion. And do it again tomorrow. Nobody in NYC would miss Adams.

The city council has authority to remove him.

The "suspension" of Adams' charges muddies the waters in regards the city council's legal standing to start removal. It's also a completely untried and awkward process complicated by a number of factors, including that several city council members are likely candidates to run against an Adams reelection bid. Personally, I think he's toast on that count -- nobody hates Trump like New Yorkers -- but there's still the next 10 months to consider. Hochul could kick him to the curb more quickly. Yes, she'd face pushback from upstaters who love Trump but the same upstaters hate NYC as much, if not more, than they love Trump.

Across the street from the first one in a wealthy white suburb that she's from. Mayor of Buffalo is a corrupt piece of shit too. Yes. Authoritarians who pass a certain threshold of popularity, like trump with his 77 million, really exist on a "Cult of Personality" (cue the band Living Color). In trump's case, as Jeff says, it really is a weirdly unique one-off, centered almost entirely on his name-recognition. Many, many of these 77 million aren't going to recognize ANY other name in the MAGA orbit outside of that other celebrity, Elon Musk. These voters are not exactly the brightest among us.

With backing from Elon and Thiel and Curtis Yarvin, JD believes he can erase the "Freedom" meme from 300 million American brains. He sold out to the billionaires who dream of an America devoid of human rights and personal freedom. An America ruled with the Iron Heel. "Democracy is Dead."

One of the reasons for all the little villages, so farmers didn't have to travel so far to do their civic duty. I'm really perplexed how these White Christian Crusaders think they are going to make the traditional denominations fold. Oh right, demonize Missionaries and aid programs, TAX THEM. Make denominations that don't go along with the Revised Trump New Testament where Judas takes charge w/ the 11 to turn the tables over in the Temple and takes a % of the money changers haul. TAX THEM. Subsidize the churches that draw in militants for the "Army of God". Get pastors to bless their weapons. Yep, State Church. Fun and thrills. Wait till they Tax the Catholic church and take on the Pope. Doesn't the Vatican have an army?

Compulsory church attendance will indeed be coming. And anyone who is not an evangelical Christian will be denied benefits, employment, housing, and so on. They want women out of the work force and the universities, and intend to repeal the 19th Amendment and so deny women the right to vote. They would like to repeal the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments as well. The Confederacy has returned to power.

Our allies will never trust us again. There is no reason for them to trust us. Just as there is no reason for us to trust that things will improve here. The Supreme Court made it clear that Donald Trump is untouchable. And it's obvious what he wants - to dismantle every part of government, break every law, impose his will on every person and organization, take money from the working poor and middle class and give it to the rich, and singlehandedly bring about the destruction of the United States, so his name will always be remembered. Just because he can. And he will. Who can stop him? The military will enforce his will. They have been spoonfed his propaganda through FOX on every military base. He will ignore any legal restraints that lower courts attempt to put on him because the Supreme Court will back him every time. His supporters are unaware of the truth by being exposed only to rightwing media that adore him or fear him. Even the mainstream media fear and obey him. Again, back to the asteroid being our only hope - annihilation of the planet quickly would be less painful than want's happening now.

And now this gang! Looks like Pete Hegseth was "fondling the grape" again!

'Help me out': Pete Hegseth flubs motto of the United States in speech to troops

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth slurred his words while trying to recall the nation's motto — E pluribus unum — to U.S. troops.

During a rant in Stuttgart, Germany, on Tuesday Hegseth spoke about President Donald Trump's executive order ending government diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices.

"Back to the basics," Hegseth said. "It's pretty simple principles and it's, at the Pentagon so far, it was driving that culture change, which I know has led to a lot of changes in a short period of time."

"And I have a great deal of respect for the manner in which our uniformed class has recognized the executive orders of new directors and said, hey, this is what we owe back to you," he continued. "But I also recognize that in your formations, in your families, in your communities, that they lead to a lot of change or uncertainty."

"And I just want to put a stop or emphasize that when it comes to the things you've seen, like reversing the DEI, things like that, that to me, again, is about getting back to basics."

Hegseth vowed to "treat every single person, regardless of their background or their gender or where they came from or the color of their skin, the exact same."

"[The military is] the forerunner of racial integration in this country," he insisted. "That's the message that we want coming out of the changes that are made."

"E pluris — E — help me out," the defense secretary said, turning to the crowd for the motto. "E pluribus unum. I need a drink of water. Out of many, one. E pluribus unum."
