three years ago today, I was in the White House. glad I got to see it before Donny fucked it all to shit

http://smirkingchimp.com/images/wh-me.jpg

Kathleen Weber's avatar

Thank God that Trump has not touched any part of the original White House. The wall that was knocked down was part of the East Wing, the addition built by Teddy Roosevelt around 1900. The East Wing houses the offices of the First Lady, just as the West Wing houses the offices of the President. I knew that there would be demolition involved when Trump announced that the First Lady's offices would be moved during the construction process.

BTW, we're gonna blow up the damn ballroom

skangirl's avatar

Imagine when we blow it up! It will be a giant gold-colored glitter bomb. We need drones and satellites to catch all the action. (I'll add that to my short list of "reasons to live." So far, it's: Outlive him; and now the vision of a glitter bomb.)

A.J. Madison's avatar

No need for pyrotechnics. Though as a symbolic gesture, the next Dem administration should blow something of Dump's up. It will be a long campaign, but I am now very sure we will overcome Twumpy and the MAGAs. Even MAGA has shrunk down to the psychotic hard core extremists. And once we've replaced this shit government, and like Nixon, We Will Erase Him. Restore the Rose Garden, tear down his shitly ballroom, restore a democratic (small d) government. Will it take decades to restore all that he destroyed in just his first year. But we won't stop until it's all gone. And the first elected Repub who sighs about "the good MAGA days" will be unemployed so fast, his head will spin.

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

Maybe it's time for the Republican Party to go the way of the Whigs. I have this hunch that even Abe Lincoln would approve.

Robert Eckert's avatar

Conan O'Brian joke: if Abraham Lincoln were alive today he would be:

a) appalled at the current direction of the Republican party,

b) a tireless campaigner for human rights, or

c) desperately clawing at the inside of his coffin

Susanna J. Sturgis's avatar

At the very, very least he'd be paying attention to the Constitution and how the "Republicans" let it be shredded. "Desperately clawing at the inside of his coffin" sounds about right.

john augustine's avatar

I doubt dems will have the stamina to blow it up but we will see

skangirl's avatar

But we know the best people. Some of them know how to blow up shit!

Zija Pulp's avatar

Right. All we have to do is find someone missing a few fingers.

Barbara Baldwin's avatar

It will be like when the judges hit that golden buzzer for a singer they like and gold glitter rains down. 😆

arne link's avatar

I fear that the original building will also be attacked Who will stop him?

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

Not a soul can, nor will make any attempt to stop his insanity Arne!

Ole Anderson's avatar

All it would take would be 4 RepubliCON Senators and 3 Congress critters to defect and put some brake action on all this BullShit.

7 people could turn this whole shit show around.

So frustrating.

Carol Jacobson's avatar

There aren’t 7 republicans who care more about the country than they do about their own chances of keeping their Cush job with all the benefits that go with it. There isn’t a real patriot in the Republican Party.

Diane J's avatar

It's likely the Epstein files are being held by Chunky Cheeto to blackmail more than 7 Republicans into not stopping him.

Tully's avatar

I've got a feeling there's even a couple of SC Justices in those files.

Steve in SoCal's avatar

They're terrified of being "retributioned"

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

You’re right of course Ole, but that quiver, searching for a spine to crawl up in this GOP won’t be finding one soon!!

Bonnie Council's avatar

It already has been. If he’s tarted up the Oval Office like he has with the whole world watching, imagine what he’s done behind closed doors. Case in point: the Lincoln Bedroom, which attack he bragged about a few days ago.

Sheila D's avatar

I agree--wait for it!

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

The transnational criminal syndicate has taken over America, our billionaire overlords own us! We’re denizens of a place where there are no laws, nor penalties for their crimes and corruption… colour me disgusted!

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

The private companies who donated $5 million each on average will own the Ballroom: "Google, R.J. Reynolds, Booz Allen Hamilton, Lockheed Martin, Palantir and NextEra Energy have donated, and so have firms in the tech, manufacturing, banking and health industries, sources told CBS News." This has nothing to do with improving federal property for the benefit of the public. It's a monument to a coup.

Joan Diehl's avatar

Sharon, you are exactly correct. “It’s a monument to a coup”. And the weasels have plans to move in permanently. DJT, his family and their felonious allies now own the United States of America. And the dumbass, racist MAGA christian nationalists presented it to him on a gold plated, tarnished platter.

Tully's avatar

They don't own it yet. I'm not willing to concede to that.

Ole Anderson's avatar

Great way to put it.

I look forward to its demolition once sanity returns.

Steve in SoCal's avatar

Which one will get naming rights? 🤔

Brenda Doherty's avatar

This is a good list of corporations to begin our economic shutdown. Apple and Amazon are likely add ons.

Diane J's avatar

I'm disgusted at their attempts to take over but I'm not about to let the bastards own me- WE THE PEOPLE should and can control this country as long as we're willing to fight forr

for it. We've been doing it intermittently since the Revolutionary War, have we become a nation of cowards now?

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

Hardly a nation of poltroons Diane, a nation of serfs…where the billionaire class is about to find out how much anger and disgust has been percolating since the treasonous Reagan was elected!

Zija Pulp's avatar

When do we strike and for how long? Start with one day and then add a few more, or start with a week?

Diane J's avatar

Obviously you never saw or parti ipated in a union strike. You just quit working, keep protesting alone or with others until either an agreement or compromise is reached.

It lasts as long as newded.

Patrick Daniels aka Cromulent1's avatar

No time like the present Zika…

A personal ban on products of the corporations that Trump grifted, is a statement!

Randy Nerbas's avatar

Not cowards. Comfortable. Very comfortable in your situations and until folks get very uncomfortable, they'll kinda wait it out. The question is gonna be a matter of timing. Will they get very uncomfortable before it's too late?

Ole Anderson's avatar

It’s ‘in your face’ all the time with this revenge machine. May he fall far and fast. Which I still pray will happen with such rapidity that it leaves both sides gasping

HI2thDoc's avatar

Right there with you, pal

Mingo's avatar

I was sickened by the destruction to the "peoples house". A wise man once said "everything Trump touches dies". Look on the bright side, he's destroyed the wing for the First Lady. Now she should be relegated to the Rose Garden Club, aka Parking Lot Club as an attendant. She can relive her former days doing "favors" for rich clients.

Tully's avatar

She hasn't been living there this go-around anyway. She'll just have to share Kegbreath's make-up room when she's required to show up for a party.

Kathleen Weber's avatar

No Trump didn't consult the board that was supposed to approve these things.

shee-rah's avatar

Dicktators never have to get permission. They just do whatever the f**k they want.

Robert Eckert's avatar

The Metro police should arrest the workers. They should know better than to commit crimes at Trump's request.

Sheila D's avatar

He needed to get approval from the National Parks Service and Congress to make these changes--he gave them the finger--'cause he knew no one could stop him!

I guess the rubberstamp R Senators & Reps are making it all possible :/

Chet Brandt's avatar

I don’t think LDFF knows where the Slovenian “wife” is half the time.

DebJS's avatar

The way he's been hitting on "very beautiful women" lately, openly and publicly, seems like he considers himself to be untethered to his third wife. Probably too old for him anyway.

John DesMarteau's avatar

Regardless of whatever the SCOTUS6 say, and if there’s any justice some of them need to go to jail, so they can whine from there, Trump will have to bear the cost to restore the WH and Rose Garden to what it was before he and what’s her name screwed it up.

I read a story from a guy who got to visit the White House and was given the privilege of staying overnight in the Lincoln Bedroom. He just could not bring himself to sleep in that bed, so he curled up on the couch. In the morning he asked if that furniture was really from Lincoln's day and was told, oh yes.

"So Lincoln himself slept in that bed?"

"He found it too short for him so he usually slept on the couch."

Barbara Baldwin's avatar

Like the time I had to travel for work and packed all my suit jackets but somehow left all the matching skirts at home. That was an interesting sartorial week. 😆

Was it a coincidence that Congress is MIA when the demolition began? I THINK NOT. Let's sue President Diarrhea into the next fucking century! I'm beyond rage at the moment, I can barely type. It's the People's House, not his. He's only renting it while he and "his family" are there. That's IT. We must vote in every local, state, and federal election to get these MF repugnicans out of power. My new health plan is to outlive these evil fucks.

You're right, Stranger, all this destruction is very deliberate, with 6 ways to compound damage with every step. I think there's something in the timing of all the AI video releases, some psychology where real things can be dismissed as easily as AI. And, out of date & out of context images being released..even with them being called out & debunked, it underscores the never-ending "fake news" claim, & tells people they can't believe their own eyes & judgment. It's warfare against the people of the U.S. on every level.

the symbolism of “Trump destroying the White House for a overpriced luxury vanity project, during a government shut down, days after a historically-large mass demonstration against his regime called “No Kings”’ would be rightly viewed as laying it on a little thick if it was in a work of fiction

- @faineg.bsky.social

kdsherpa's avatar

A reporter on MSNBC said that the timing isn't coincidental.

George in Atlanta's avatar

This much is clear.

He is swinging his little mushroom peen around, trying to assert his authoritiii! But here's the thing: it's *intended* to make us sick and make us feel helpless. It's not working, though. He knows it. Congress knows it. His entire cabinet knows it. He engages in petty vandalism while his flying monkeys make the talk show circuit screeching about how we're all Antifa Terrorists Who Hate America. That's all they got. They're panicking. People do stupid things when they panic.

A peaceful mass demonstration shows two things: 1) the people are disciplined enough to avoid the violence 2) the massive scale of the people who are thoroughly disgusted and want to see the regime removed now. It's like a little old lady in a dark alley calmly opening up her trench coat to reveal a sawed-off shotgun. In their tiny reptilian minds, their threat assessment capability can put 1 and 2 together and extrapolate out what a bridge-too-far provocation could result in.

On Saturday, we achieved two-thirds of the magical "3.5%" needed to oust an authoritarian regime (I work with numbers, so I'm a little skeptical about how hard-and-fast this 'rule' is). The pain is ramping up, they are squealing like stuck pigs and thrashing around trying to generate more and more provocations and distractions to throw us off. Little noted fact: the regime is losing assistant chiefs of staff and other key flunkies at an acceleration rate. People who know stuff we don't.

I'm waiting for THE THING. That THING may never come, it usually doesn't since history tends to be banal at the time. It could be some third-rate 7th-grade dropout ordering the seizure of civilian weapons, or a panicked and untrained ICE goon opening fire at 20 rounds per second on a crowd of protesters. It is *very* hard to maintain discipline enough to push just far enough but not over a line, and impossible if your operatives understand neither restraint nor subtlety.

It's like bankruptcy, slowly... slowly..,. and then all at once. (Apologies to Hemingway).

Ole Anderson's avatar

Trump doesn't own the White House. We, the people, own the White House. He is merely a temporary resident. And how did that extra $50 million slip in? When he first started jabbering about a ballroom, he said the price was $200 million. Now it's $250 million. He should be impeached, convicted, and imprisoned for his many crimes against the American people, including this abominable desecration of a historic landmark.

kdsherpa's avatar

It'll go up to a billion, without a doubt.

I think he wants one on the land Florida wants to donate for his "presidential library".

Excuse me while I puke.

Well up until now, the wrecking ball Trump was using on our country was metaphorical (which certainly was horrific). But now it’s quite literal. How in the fuck can this asshole make the unilateral decision to destroy America’s house? Our HOA board has more rules than Congress and SCITUS put together.

No doubt! I need permission to install a fence!

We need permission to change our screen door.

Will people please take a hard look at the demolished East Wing and finally get it through your heads that this is NOT TEMPORARY. Everyone living in La-La land who believes the next vote will make anything go back the way it was, do you get the picture now? The Trump damage is permanent.

Yep. He’s never leaving. He’s trying to recreate DC in his own image.

Everything of value hollowed out to make room for tacky ego stuffing.

The Project 2025 plutocrats from the perversely-named Heritage Foundation also want to monumentalize their obscene wealth and power. This is their legacy.

He's leaving, one way or the other.😡😡

I completely concur with your assessment. I hope that I am wrong, but do think the next vote will not happen or the outcome will not be honoured.

I don’t know but I suspect it will make January 6 look tame. He has his own armed militia now and most of the sane people who were in charge of voting have been fired or left in fury and disgust.

Kim Steeves's avatar

Also Dominion voting machines have been sold to a Republican. So trust level of the machines now?

Charles Austin's avatar

Vote on a hand marked paper ballot. I request one every time I vote. Never vote on a machine.

If the Supreme Court allows him to send troops to American cities, we can kiss the midterms goodbye.

It looks like it's been bombed, which was probably King Shitheads original plan.

When the regime is dead, the next POTUS must fix the Oval Office, demolish the vanity ballroom and rebuild the proper East Wing and demolish the proposed "Arc de Trump" whenever it is inevitably built.
