So fucking tired of the sandbaggers. If he walked on water, they would say it reinforces doubt about his swimming skills.

Biden last night: "The only thing age does is creates a little bit of wisdom if you pay attention." Biden is the first president in my lifetime where I actually want 4 more years of him.

Anita Smibert's avatar

Yes. He's the only one I have seen who completely understands how to make the economy work for everyone. He deserves the opportunity to finish his work. Not one reporter asked about his domestic platform. And the last one asked a question about Ukraine that he had already answered.

Kathleen Weber's avatar

I see foreign policy and his ability to work with Congress as his two greatest strengths. I heard Obama say that Biden always discussed the impact of every issue on ordinary Americans during meetings during the Obama administration.

Karla's avatar

That’s the thing.. he has so much knowledge and experience that even when he isn’t at peak performance, he can do the job. He also surrounds himself with capable people which is huge.

Linda Weide's avatar

I agree, and see how many things he has started that we need to continue and deepen.

bruce somers's avatar

At 62 years old, I'd like to think the ole brain mush is working correctly, before I open my mouth.

Susan Linehan's avatar

And will you believe in four years that you are "same person you were four years ago?" I definitely hope you won't, because the only thing that doesn't change in 4 years is an inanimate object, including trump. Wisdom grows even as the knees creak.

I get so SICK of idiots

Declan's avatar

Grandpa Beffudlepants 😅....thats almost me and what I've got to look forward to.

Susan Linehan's avatar

The only president I wanted four more years from but didn't vote for was Jimmy Carter, who announced his concession to Reagan BEFORE THE WEST COAST POLLS CLOSED. He was, of course, right to concede, but that speech said to me "your vote doesn't count." (which of course it didn't, but you didn't have to SAY so.) So just before 8PM I voted for some third party candidate, no idea now who it was.

David A Pitock's avatar

Yes it has been a long time ⌛️

Karen Livolsi's avatar

I watched on CBS. I wished I could’ve reached through my screen and punch Nora O’Donnell in her big, fat smug face! With her gleefully announcing NOW Democrats are concerned about the President’s ability to serve another term. 14 Democrats out of what 213? Hardly a movement.

NBC needs to be dismantled as a menace to society and stuffed into the sack reserved for lying shitbags. The press toed the line just barely maintaining a smidgen of decorum for the President of the United States.

Joe Biden made few and barely worth mentioning gaffes. His answers were accurate, complete, articulate and as honest as he could be. As Biden left the stage, I put my Xanax bottle unopened, back on the shelf, and congratulated myself for never losing faith in President Biden. This isn’t the end, even if it was, Dems have several options which are quite well liked and also most likely to beat CFDT. (I like this reference).

I almost fell off my chair when I saw the NYT proclaimed Trump unfit for office. Too little too late for sure, but it’s the first time in a very long time The Times actually had their shit wired tight with finally stating the obvious.

Now it’s CFDT’s turn.

Karla's avatar

Was that NYT thing recent? I bet they’re losing subscribers, as they should. Agree that it’s too little, too late.

Carolyn O'Daly's avatar

Maybe they got a lot of feedback about George (dead to me) Clooney's editorial.

Linda Fairchild's avatar

They are losing subscribers by the tens of thousands. As they should. Thankfully, we have Jeff Tiedrich and a community of Substackers who can actually read and write.

Lora Torgessen's avatar

Was published two days ago.

It's the reporters that write up the 'news' which is published daily. The editors write 'opinion' pieces, that may people gloss over.

Thus was an, ditorial, or 'opinion' piece that was compiled my the editorial board so, it's not 'news'.

That said, it's still about time!

David A Pitock's avatar

Sounds like NYT is covering its own ass and I thought it was more like 8 dems that are waffling.

I wish one of the “biggies” would have a front page, above the fold deep dive on the felon and Epstein. Guess I won’t hold my breath though.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

They'll have thirty seven "above the fold" criticisms, and one positive editorial. It is said they have an entire floor dedicated to slagging President Biden.

"So The New York Times has apparently devoted half a floor in its Eighth Avenue headquarters to a search for bad news about Biden, and then they reserve a space nearly every day above the fold on the front page for whatever grain of grim garbage the Biden hunters have managed to come up with. They’re probably working on a story on how Biden is losing the pro-choice vote as we speak, while pointing out the wild success of Trump’s “move to the middle” on abortion with “centrist” voters.

If you’re getting off the subway anywhere near Eighth Avenue and 42nd Street, hold your nose. There’s something fishy at the New York Times."

Perfect metaphor. Awesome.

Susan Niemann's avatar

Thanks for these video clips...I have to go now and deal with the naysayers from my Midwestern hometown. JFC. I saw most of the press conference and I thought he was fine. He certainly knows his shit and he's doing GOOD things for this country. BTW: Sharkey McBatterybrain? 😂😂😂

IT'S FRIDAY, People. Try to have a good weekend! ✌️

Susan Kemp's avatar

He’s incredibly knowledgeable about foreign policy and, from what I’ve read, is mentoring VP Harris. His depth and breadth of knowledge was on full display last night. He’s not a great speaker in a news conference, or debate, setting, but he has energy, enthusiasm, and empathy when dealing with the public either one-on-one or in a rally setting, which I think the SOTU was.

Both Bill Clinton and Barack Obama were/are fantastically able campaigners. Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden, not so much. That doesn’t make them inept at governing. It’s a different skill set. I think it’s tragic that we didn’t have a Hillary Clinton presidency and the misogynistic haters ushered in the disastrous trump administration. It would be even more tragic to have a Project 2025-fueled second term for the most ignorant ex-president in history.

Rick Calegari's avatar

Biden really kicked some serious ass on foreign policy and did very well overall which also included some humor.

The only thing Emperor Anus Lips knows or gives a shit about policy across the globe is what his buddies like Putin and Orban are telling him. To have the brain dead mango malignancy even attempt to answer any of those questions would've been nothing but a cluster fuck of word salad and avoiding every subject. Last night really showed who we need to continue to support and who once and for all needs to finally get the hell out of town and our lives. Have a wonderful weekend everyone.

Anita Smibert's avatar

I fail to see the logic of these brainless peckerheads telling him to step aside. With less than 4 months to go, they want to stick in a rookie who will have to run with Biden’s agenda and Biden’s accomplishments with Biden’s money.

Carolyn O'Daly's avatar

The only one who could run with Biden's money is Kamala.

Anita Smibert's avatar

Yes and the defectors also don't want her as a candidate. So with 116 days they want to throw in a rookie. Donald Trump has been running his campaign for 604 days. The new team would have to start from scratch on everything. It's political suicide.

Carol C's avatar

PBS Newshour interviewed guy who said Trump’s campaign is designed specifically to defeat Biden. They would have to come up with plan B for another opponent. Scary people working for Trump including Chris Civita who Swiftboated John Kerry. And Suzy (Styles) who turned Florida red.

Carol C's avatar

Biden’s humor and warmth might save us all. He can smile a real smile. Trump can show his teeth in a smile-like pose, but it is not a smile.

Eileen's avatar

You go, Susan. As JOEL wrote here, let’s make that our rallying cry.

Back to Jeff: “engorged dung beetles” I lost it. Dung beetles follow elephants and roll up their shit into neat little balls: “And yet the elephant's waste products are a source of sustenance for the Dung Beetle. Dung beetles collect up the elephant dung into a ball and then roll it to a destination where they bury it. They then climb into the ball of dung with their mate, reproduce and then the dung beetle lavae are born inside.”The dung beetle is such a perfect metaphor for the press that takes and multiplies the Republicans’ (elephant mascot) talking points for them and ignores the heinous threat that a Trump presidency would inflict on the world. Unbelievable.

Susan Niemann's avatar

Eileen...I'll never think about a dung beetle in the same way. 😂 This is great! 👏👏👏

Rick Calegari's avatar

Would love to hear about dung beetles taking up residence at Mar a Lardo complete with their product.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

They'd have to fight the bedbugs for it.

Kathleen Weber's avatar

Try to tell me my house is dirty!

Sharon C Storm's avatar

I knew basically what dug beetles did, but your explanation is very informative. Thanks, and you are correct, that was perfect!

Declan's avatar

Fascinating...and funnier than....😆🤣

Carol's avatar

Yes - PLEASE media, ask Trump those same questions! The public deserves to hear!

SeekingReason's avatar

We demand trump give foreign policy details in front of press/monitors that WE pick. Keith Olbermann, Stephen Colbert, Randi Rhodes, Amy Goodman, Rick Wilson, Jeff Tiedrich, Justin Rosario, Heather Cox Richardson etc

Sharon C Storm's avatar

Yes, always Randy Rainbow!

shee-rah's avatar

And Randy would have a new hilarious video posted on YouTube the next day.

Saundra Parker's avatar

Yes, please - I would pay money to watch IQ 45 attempt to answer the same or similar questions asked by our guys.

AmericanHistoryGeek's avatar

Not Keith either. Too wishywashy right now. But definitely let’s get Heather asking the tough questions! She wouldn’t cave like the cnn mannequins.

Anita Smibert's avatar

Not Stephen Colbert. He's a defector.

Megan Ross's avatar

That's really disappointing to hear! I thought Stephen Colbert was smarter than that. 😞

SeekingReason's avatar

Really? What did he say…is he rooting for replacement of Biden. Disappointing, he does well with the comedy touch.

Anita Smibert's avatar

Seth Meyers as well. And Jon Stewart . Rob Reiner, Stephen King, Michael Moore, George Clooney. Just disgusting.

Gail's avatar

Well, they all have to kowtow to their network bosses to some extent. I too have been disappointed at their monologues and "A Closer Look" this week.

Anita Smibert's avatar

The networks want deregulation. Zaslav announced in March that Warner Brothers Discovery was looking for mergers and acquisitions. A few days ago he said that they want Biden out because of his antitrust stance. The next day CNN announced they were laying off 100 people to start a digital platform. They want to create huge monopolies to control every aspect of our media and entertainment. Biden won't let them "do what we want".

Aleksandra Wolska's avatar

Yea. Colbert. Too bad. Smart and funny go together. He lost his smarts. He is no longer funny to me.

Tama2U's avatar

Let’s add Joanne Carducci to the pool

Linda McFee's avatar

I would grab some popcorn and enjoy that shitshow. Note to self - empty bladder first or prepare to pee myself laughing.

PeggyStuart's avatar

Here you go. People who actually deal with the President AND, presumably, actually know other old people, think he's up to the job. The media are pissing off (pardon my French––is was Macron's influence) a LOT of retired people who think it's OK to have a career past 80 if you feel like it. We don't all drool and wear diapers, and if we did but were otherwise capable, we should be able to still contribute to society in whatever capacity we can!

Sharon C Storm's avatar

I’m another octogenarian, older than our President, I only drool if someone is cooking something delicious.

I think 4 more years of a Biden presidency would be wonderful for the country, and particularly for those who are living paycheck to paycheck. The Social safety net needs rebuilding. I believe Joe will do it.

PeggyStuart's avatar

LOL! But you're right. I depend on my Social Security to get by. Even though we have investment funds to live off of, it wouldn't be enough.

Sharon C Storm's avatar

Social Security is my sole source of income, and my investments were all wiped out by the Bush recession in 2008. Yes, please vote blue.

PeggyStuart's avatar

We took a hit, too, but we spent 5 years living in Indonesia, and the expat bonus gave us a great nest egg...until Hubs got forced into early retirement after we came back. We're so much better off than we would have been though. Good luck! I hope you're managing well.

Sharon C Storm's avatar

I doing better now than I was. I’ve managed to find a senior affordable apartment on a beautiful riverbank in an elegant mansion . It’s amazing, I’m so fortunate to live here.

SeekingReason's avatar

Sharon, if we get a Blue Congress…the progress Biden can make would be off the charts good!

Sharon C Storm's avatar

Absolutely! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Lynn Van Haren's avatar

Certainly more likely than Republicans continuing it. If they get a majority & tRump, they will def get rid of Social Security & Medicare

Lynn Van Haren's avatar

CFDT both drools & wears diapers & hasn’t even hit 80 yet 😃

PeggyStuart's avatar

Well, I haven't seen any proof of that yet, but he's clearly in worse shape for his age than many, especially the President. (The real one.)

Declan's avatar

Biden could talk about senior issues more and be an educational source that elevates skills of seniors. Cuz right now MAGA doesn't respect senior citizens and probably is the next group to be targeted.

PeggyStuart's avatar

Maybe he thinks it would look as if he had a vested interest. I don't know, but you make a good point.

Tama2U's avatar

Biden smoked the hour and the one gaffe I totally understood. I call my kids my grandkids name interchangeably because I’m thinking of them at the same time. We all do it regardless of age. BFD. My first impression was that of a statesman in command of the intricate facts of both foreign and domestic affairs. I’m frankly relieved and bolstered. Kudos to the press for focusing on world events and NATO rather than the cluster petty politics they have in large part created. Credit when due..

DonP's avatar

I challenge anyone, of any age, who has not heard their own mother or father call them by some other sibling's name when they were mad at you as a kid, or were pointing you out while talking rapidly.

Mine used to do it all the time. Heck, my mom once called me by the dog's name when she was mad at me.

Megan Ross's avatar

Right?! Both my mom and dad went through all the kids names before they finally got to mine! 🤣

Jodi Richard's avatar

Sigh… just last week I was trying to name my little sister, said my two daughters’ names and finally settled on “the person who just left the room” as my final answer. My mom lost it, which was nice to hear her laugh as we were all in the hospital after my dad had a full rework of his heart.

Patricia Gomes's avatar

“Whatever your name is” was my fall back when I was on a roll.

Nancy Potter's avatar

Yeah, I was actually calling your brother, but you probably did something wrong too!

DonP's avatar

"YOU! <finger points directly at you> YOU know who I'm talking to!!"

Maggie&Lefty's avatar

I remember standing and looking straight at my mom when I was about 6 or 8 and her going right down the whole list of my siblings before she finally said my name. I felt a little guilty for awhile but it was worth the chuckle and she got over it pretty quickly. Life’s a kick in the pants!

Kristy Kanen's avatar

Not even our whole names sometimes, my Mom would get flustered & say parts

" Kri , Pat, Lou, Lee ! " 😁

Sharon C Storm's avatar

Mine was “Ho-Cat-Col-Rik. Sometimes even Duchess, our GSD make the list.

SeekingReason's avatar

AmericanHistoryGeek's avatar

It’s a running joke with my family! I’ve done the whole “roll call” trying to figure out the right name for years. Not a reason to quit on our President. Vote 💙🌊

Gail's avatar

Lynn Van Haren's avatar

Gail's avatar

These Talking Heads on TV mix up words and names all the time!

Susan Keefer's avatar

Loved his response to Peter Alexander who was saying that Trump was making fun of him: “Listen to him.” 😂

Linda McFee's avatar

And the Dark Brandon jab about Donald is too busy filling out his golf score before he even plays the first hole.

SeekingReason's avatar

I have a phone case with President Joe Cool in his shades saying, Will you shut up man! I lve that kind of perfect response from Biden.

Declan's avatar

'Will you shut up man'! was the equivalent of Reagans 'Well....there you go again'! Joe should have used that when D lied....thats all he had to say....there ya go...another lie"!

No press on the FELON meeting with a dangerous right wing leader, Viktor Orbán, at his FL home. Why can a CONVICTED FELON meet with a dangerous right wing foreign leader!? WHY? President Biden is busy doing his job while the orange FASCIST FELON meets with a foreign FASCIST!

Hello PRESS! Story here!

Well, we don't technically have a dispute with Hungary, do we? Although we know that Orban is an intermediary for another foreign government. I saw it mentioned briefly on the news as just something that happened. Nothing to see here, folks...

Ann Anderson's avatar

Thank you, Jeff. Thank you for standing by the best president in my lifetime. (I'm aware that Trump voters say that about him. I'm also aware that they're mistaken.) The press can't stop hocking this made-up issue because stirring shit is the business they're in. And may I add FUCK GEORGE CLOONEY. He could have sent his oped to Joe directly. He could have spoken it aloud because Joe probably takes his calls. But no, he had to go to the fucking New York Times. He Susan Sarandoned himself right out of my life. But never mind. I have a good feeling that this avoidable shit storm will settle down and Joe will be our candidate.

Nancy Potter's avatar

Aleksandra Wolska's avatar

Hurray! Hurra! Hurray! This column has made my day. That's the way. Keeping sane. Head above the water of deranged noise and lizard-brain activations, towards clarity of purpose -- deep breath and here we go!

Darrell Smith's avatar

I wish that everyone would get over the debate. Do you know who had the disaster? CNN and their so-called moderators did. Trump doesn't know how to debate. He spewed a constant stream of outright lies and complete fabrications. All Joe could do was present his side of the issues, which he did. When it got to the "Will you shut up man" part, Joe could only say "Everything you say is a lie" and "You have the morals of an alley cat". Joe spoke the truth. The moderators didn't moderate at all. They could not contain the Trump Bulldozer of Bullshit.

Trump has lied so much in his life that: 1. Media and many people take what he says as truth or relevance. 2. Too many have bought into his scam so they have a financial interest in his winning. 3. America's enemies have the same kind of interest in seeing him elected and the destruction of America.

Trump lost it long ago. He could have been raised by decent people to be a philanthropist. Fat chance he had. My hope is that all Americans will see reality and trust the Democrats. They aren't perfect. But in my 72 years of life, the American people always suffered when a Republican was in the White House. People were able to breath and move forward and upward a little when the Democrats were in there.

Barack Obama and Joe Biden, best presidents in my lifetime, and hey, who's the last president who had a balanced budget?,Bill Clinton.

EFS's avatar

Biden has never spoken perfectly, but he knows what he is doing. Focusing on his speech impediment, and how managing that affects his speech, is a form of bullying. Something Republicans and the media excel at.

Lorraine Parish's avatar

I'm Ridin' with Biden.

The media/press always amplifies negativity, and I am fucking sick of it.

The magats are a much smaller pack of idiots than they are made out to be,

I could go on but I'm not.

After the Dem's trifecta win, we should go after the goddamn press.

Kathy H's avatar

Yes. This time we need to follow through on the work beyond an election.

It's what jackals & hyenas do, if there wasn't anything to seize on, magnify, & distort, they just entirely fabricate something. The press has forgotten their fucking place. Their job is to credibly inform us with integrity, not pander to corporate influence. Their bosses have entirely lost the plot & that shit has to be brought down, we have made a big error in tolerating being lied to.

bruce somers's avatar

That's a slippery slope, but what you're offering is opinions and entertainment, you don't need press credentials, maybe you should have a stand-up act,or social media feed, instead of press credentials.

When I go through Mother Jones Instagram and their dangerous ridiculous articles on “Biden should step down” every comment (and there are 100’s and 100’s of them all from different real people) is that MJ needs to STFU and we’re voting for Biden. This is a bullshit media created crisis. We’re voting a ticket and an administration that is pro-Democracy the other side is a neo-christian fascist cult following a demented sociopath. WTF!

Megan Ross's avatar

While I'm phone banking for Biden, the vast majority of people I talk to all over the country, including swing states, are overwhelmingly supporting Biden and voting for him. It keeps me sane talking to actual voters and not listening to the lame-stream media talking heads.👍

I just can’t for the life of me understand how trump is allowed to meet with a foreign adversary. Is this a violation of the Logan Act or not? Why does he get away with every god damn thing. It’s exasperating.

And on another note: one man is merely expected to remember Person, Woman, Man, Camera, TV, and the other man is expected to respond to intricate questions about foreign policy for almost an hour, without a gaffe, while being bullied about his age. Seems fair. Again…exasperating!

Teri's avatar

As others have said, Joe Biden's recall yesterday of complicated, multi-faceted questions was so impressive. I would have had to jot down notes to recall the 2nd & 3rd questions, even in my 20's thru today. The depth of Joe's understanding of policies, alliances and how they affect unrelated X, Y & Z. #RidenWithBiden2024
