today in Shit That Happened While I Was Busy Writing This Shit—

this fucking psycho, ugh. he's really going to go through with it, isn't he

https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116363336033995961

"A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!"

Diana Hembree's avatar

God, why won't these cowards 25th him? My husband is from Iran and he hasn't been able to sleep for weeks; he can't reach his family; we are governed by monsters and psychopaths.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

You're asking why Vance and the sycophants and buffoons in the Cabinet won't invoke the 25th? Really? They've already made it clear their oath is to Trump and not the Constitution.

Diana Hembree's avatar

Really, Daniel. this is your response to me? It was a rhetorical question; I am beside myself with grief and fury, and you write this. Of course I know their oath is to Trump.

Lois Henry's avatar

Daniel meant no harm I’m sure. We’re all half crazed under this administration. Your husband and others with loved ones in Iran have it so much worse. I get that. My heartfelt apologies to you and to him for anyone who adds to your pain inadvertently or worse, intentionally. We all stumble through this life together.

Leigh Hamilton's avatar

I'm not so sure Daniel meant no harm. Yes, we're all half crazed, but I don't think it takes much to have compassion for someone whose family is being threatened with annihilation.

KP Johnson Austin, TX's avatar

I'm thinking that Daniel meant no harm. He didn't express concern for Diana's family, but he did state the truth: Congress is neutered and loyal to an insane dictator....nothing is going to change. We're screwed.

Diana Hembree's avatar

Thank you, Lois.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

If you knew that, why are you wondering why they're not invoking the 25th? I'm tired of people posting that it's the solution to everything when it CLEARLY is going nowhere.

Diana Hembree's avatar

It's all about you, isn't it?

George in Atlanta's avatar

Diana, I'm very sorry about your family. I've know several people from Iran. They call themselves "Persians" rather than Iranians, which they find somewhat distasteful. Energetic, educated, smart as hell. And proud, for good reason. Trump knows none of this, and he represents his constituency, who know nothing.

Miles Taylor wrote a pretty thorough piece on "The 25th vs what else can be done". In a nutshell, he points out that the 25th is used as a shorthand for the idea of an institutional response to nullify Trump. And that the institutions have failed. He sees the only solution to be political. I agree with that, but not with his faith in what happens in November. I'm fairly certain we won't 'make it' to November, not for the cartoon versions of reality where ballot boxes are stormed and stuffed by ICE thugs, but because Trump will keep being Trump. His logic is, when something fails, do it harder again. It's already out of his hands, but he is going to invoke or execute something that will be a whole new level. And that ratchet will keep escalating up. There's a long time until November, what happens then, if anything, is uncertain.

Leigh Hamilton's avatar

No, it isn't about Daniel at all - he's mansplaining. I'm so sorry for you and your family. It is unconscionable what might happen to them along with tens, hundreds of thousands of Iranian innocents.

But (and I'm not usually naive) I think trump is going to find a way to back out of this to save face.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

No, not in the slightest. I'm just tired of people pretending the 25th amendment is the solution to the current horrorshow. It's not.

kdsherpa's avatar

As Charlie Brown would say, Good grief. He meant no harm. His comments are always on target, even though he missed the ball on this one. Let it go.

Leigh Hamilton's avatar

Why does that irritate you so? I understood she was asking a rhetorical question; it wasn't obscure. And by the way, we're ALL tired of ALL of this, so what would you suggest we do, Daniel?

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Get involved in one or more campaigns to elect Democrats in November. You can contribute, make phone calls, write postcards. None of these are the silver bullet we all want, but at least you will be able to feel you're doing something.

Eva's avatar

JD is too busy stroking Orbán and threatening nuclear war to worry about the 25th amendment.

If they launch a nuke, it’s over for all of us

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Sadly true. At least it's looking bad for Orban.

LindaSRW's avatar

I so agree, Daniel.

Pat Ebervein's avatar

I’d love to see the day they are all incarcerated - hopefully a life sentence in one of their oh-so-special detainment facilities.

I, for one, will never forget or forgive any of them! None of this had to happen in the first place! MAGA is a Moron death cult, lead by the biggest Moron of them all!

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

I'm more nuanced. I will not shame Trump *voters* who have seen the light. They were stupid, but we need their votes (or their NOT voting for MAGAts).

I will NOT forgive those officials, elected or appointed, who enabled him.

Diana, God help your inlaws! Years ago, I worked with a very nice woman who had emigrated from Iran. Like all who make the difficult decision to leave their homes, they came for a better life. I've worked with many immigrants over the years, and the courage they show is humbling. I cried when my daughter moved one state away; I can't imagine leaving for another continent!

Dawn Sweredoski's avatar

Any sane person, any person with empathy, any person, no matter their race, religion, or country, is not sleeping well. There are so many of us who feel helpless and hopeless that no one in power to stop this madman and his administration is coming forward.

Frank Nuts's avatar

I feel for your husband Diana. Our regime ( it’s not an administration

Frank Nuts's avatar

Sorry, I keep hitting the send button when I’m trying to edit my fat thumb’s mistakes.

So, as I was saying Diana, I feel for your husband. The Persians do not deserve our regime. When our regime administers anything besides war and hate then I may start calling them an administration. Till then, we are nothing more than a blood thirsty war regime like Russia. Our secretary of war, aka “the nut cracker”, has been saying the quiet part out loud. He thinks he’s John Wayne in the middle of a bunch of blood thirsty Indians who murdered his chihuahua and he’s going to rain fury down upon them. Where did this weekend Fox News clown reject get his credentials anyway? From watching the 3 Stooges on Saturdays? I’d say he’s qualified to wear a white hood and carry a burning cross ( that will hopefully light his white hoodie on fire)

I had a Persian friend when I went to U.C. Davis in the fall of 73. I helped him with his English for his studies and he cooked me Persian food. It was delicious. He informed me that the people there referred to themselves as Persians and most people don’t realize that who call them Iranians.

We, the USA caused this whole mess back in 53 when our oligarchs (the oil guys et al) used their private army, the CIA, to overthrow their leader and install the Shah regime who would allow our oligarchs to steal their oil. My friend, Bahram ( I probably spelled that wrong), said we practically had CIA agents on every corner. They stood out like a sore thumb. The citizens there overthrew their Shah and religious fanatics came to power the rest is history. My friend said the people were becoming more and more westernized — they were wearing modern clothes and listening to modern music etc. We destroyed all that. I often wonder what happened to my friend after he returned to Iran. I hope he wasn’t killed in the revolution but I fear that may have happened. If I knew his last name I have long since forgotten it. Hell, I can’t even remember how to spell his first name.

Anyway the Persians are a peaceful loving people — the war mongering religious fanatics not so much; but, then again, check out our warmongering Christian nationalist fanatics— we’re much much worse. We out right stole the Native American’s land, slaughtered their people, forced Christianity upon them, decimated them with our diseases and then, after all that, thought they should thank us.

We abducted people from Africa, made them slaves and had the audacity to claim we were doing God’s work. If that’s the case the God’s an evil SOB.

Long story short, tell your husband I feel for him and his family. He and his family didn’t ask for nor did they deserve this. I wish I could stop it for him and them.

We are not an evil people and neither are the Persians. But we have done, and are currently doing, evil things thanks to the jokers we put in power. The Israelis have their own evil person in power: Bibi Netanyahoo, who is also a convicted felon, like Trump, who is also prosecuting this criminal war to stay out of jail ( for some reason they can’t just put him in jail — they have to wait till he stops criming it up — go figure).

Hopefully there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. It’s pretty dark right now.

Elizabeth M. (Massachusetts)'s avatar

Diana, I share your anguished outrage. I think there are only three possible reasons that remain, today, for why the Republicans have not removed this monster idiot psychopath. 1. They like T's base are full Trump cult members blinded by adoration of Trump-Jesus, or 2. They are religious cult members who have drunk so much fundamentalist Bible-literalist revenge Koolaid that they are on the "Let's hasten Armageddon and the Day of Judgment" loony train with Pete Hegseth, or 3. If they still have enough functioning rational neurons to be privately revolted and aghast, they are desperate to delay their own accountability for enabling this shit show, as long as they can.

TL;DR: 1. They think everything's great because they're Trump cultists or Judgment&Rapture cultists, or 2. They're terrified of being tried and sent to jail themselves for enabling the shit show.

Nancy's avatar

I am so sorry for the stress your family is feeling. I feel like nobody is going to stop him--not Congress, not the generals, certainly not his Cabinet. And there's vance, off in Hungary, praising orban the way cabinet member praise trump. It's sickening. That those who could have stopped trump let it get this far is maddening. I feel so bad for your husband and his family.

Suel J's avatar

I'm so sorry.

Marian Vitale's avatar

Elizabeth Cronise McLaughlin did a segment on YouTube yesterday about what's actually involved in invoking the 25th amendment. Even if Vance and the Cabinet decided to do it, there are numerous steps (including one where TFG can say, "Nah, I'm fine!") and it takes a very long time AND you need 2/3 of Congress to agree to it. Won't happen. She said impeachment is a tiny bit more feasible but still need 2/3 of the Senate to remove him.

Elizabeth M. (Massachusetts)'s avatar

Yes. Only Trump's own failing health would end his regime before his term is up. Do everything you can, everybody, to elect Democrats in November. Ignore Trump's noise about rigging or taking over the vote. He's trying to persuade people there's no point in voting, which will only work if we let it. Write voter postcards or letters with Vote Forward, Activate America, Field Team Six, or any of the grassroots organizations working to elect Democrats. If you can afford to, donate to campaigns. Talk to your friends, especially in red or purple states. We need massive Democratic turnout in November.

Marian Vitale's avatar

We at Democrats Abroad (I live in Amsterdam) are also doing a lot to make sure that Americans living outside the US get registered in their appropriate state and do so NOW, before any shenanigans with the SAVE Act happens. There are millions of us and we vote!

I agree. And we are on the wrong side of every military action he has taken. I weep for Ukraine. And the Venezuelan fishermen blown out of the water. The war crime of blowing up people in a rescue craft. The war crimes he is committing every day. I have lost faith in Congress - I am now wishing for the Hague to step in. These are international Crimes Against Humanity.

Lucius's avatar

Unfortunately there's a law on the books that pre-authorizes military intervention if an American is tried at the Hague. Trump would absolutely launch nukes at Europe if he got the chance. Putin wants NATO gone after all.

If and when Democrats manage to retake the government, then we can and should start express shipping Republicans off to the Hague along with some pre-built gallows to save them time and effort. Until then* though…

*If we retake the government and if the Democrats in charge don't pull another Merrick Garland…

I hope Jake Tapper is sent to the front, followed by GOP House and Senate leadership. Miss Lindsey will surely volunteer to lead the gang. So much winning …winning like you’ve never seen…

Bob's avatar

Frank Nuts's avatar

Mike Hammer's avatar

Miselle's avatar

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

The hatred toward Tapper is utterly ridiculous. HE'S not the enemy. Some people act like he's Sean Hannity or Jesse Watters. Nothing could be further from the truth.

P123Sunny's avatar

But he’s in charge of documenting ‘Presidential Mental Fitness’ ppl were saying. Yeah right

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

No, he wrote a book about Biden. Biden was a good president whose presidency ended badly because he wrongfully thought he should run for re-election. Reporting this does not make Tapper the enemy. His job is reporting, not propagandizing (or covering up) for one side.

P123Sunny's avatar

I was referring to Tappers interview on his book tour saying ‘HE SHOULD HAVE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT BIDEN EARLIER’… Biden never fell asleep in a major meeting (or on tv). Tired of the false equivalencies tbh

P123Sunny's avatar

Where’s the exhaustive documentation re: the present Occupant, Jake?

Cathy Rady's avatar

sane washing Trump counts as propaganda

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Yes, and Tapper is not doing that, no matter how many people here claim otherwise. The NY Times and WaPo, on the other hand, have a lot to answer for.

john augustine's avatar

Where’s tapper now? Crickets!

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Nonsense. He explicitly said Trump is calling for war crimes in his notorious Easter post. And he didn't "sanewash" it either.

Kristy Kanen's avatar

I don't like you.

Barbara Vasile's avatar

In that case, where is Tapper’s new book documenting the utterly disqualifying and dangerous deterioration of Trump’s sanity? What is he waiting for?

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Where is YOUR book on the subject? Really, do you know what a ridiculous response that is? Books don't magically appear. Non-fiction books involve research and interviews, often after the fact. Tapper's book on Biden came out in 2025, NOT 2024.

Barbara Vasile's avatar

I am an attorney, not an author. And it is not as though Trump’s deterioration has been a sudden thing. It has been glaringly obvious since at least the start of his second term. Therefore, my response was not ridiculous.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

It was. You apparently have no idea about how books are written and published. If someone had a contract NOW to do such a book, it's unlikely it would be out before the midterm elections.

Dr J's Sanity Space's avatar

Why are you so defensive of Jake? Asking Barbara about her writing a book is just ridiculous - Tapper puts himself out as a reporter & author. MSM including Tapper has been obvious in hitting Biden & sanewashing the current prez 💯.

Kristy Kanen's avatar

BLOCKED .for being an arrogant thread hogger.

john augustine's avatar

He’s still a FPOS

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Why? Because he hurt your feelings? He's a damn good reporter. And Biden -- who was a good president -- should NOT have run for re-election.

john augustine's avatar

As I said tapper is a pos and now crickets about the rotting delusional sleepy don

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

You know who else is a POS? Chuck Schumer. Isn't he a Senate leader for the Democrats? And Hakeem Jeffries -- go ahead, boys, just say it to Trump: "What the fuck is wrong with you?"

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

And as I said, he's doing hard hitting reporting about the Trump maladministration, including that Trump is openly declaring his intention to commit war crimes.

Polly Sears's avatar

I agree, there are bigger fish to fry, as my grandfather used to say.

Gently, Jack Jones's avatar

I don’t hate Tapper, he is just another mediocre journalist who I generally ignore.

Suzeebee's avatar

This is all horrifying and sickening and I am desperately hoping he TACOs. But also awful, I believe his insane rantings about how civilians want to be bombed may have a chilling purpose. He wants to show us how true patriots are willing to suffer and sacrifice their lives for their country. This twisted logic means we as Americans will likely be asked (demanded) to suffer economically at the very least “for the greater good of the Homeland” during and after wartime. It will be unpatriotic to object. We must be prepared in advance and we must take control of Congress.

SethTriggs's avatar

This barking mad lunatic wants to become one of history's biggest mass murderers. Just absolutely horrifying, and millions of Americans support America's Pilonidal Cyst in this mission.

Miselle's avatar

Jeff, assuming we aren't all exterminated tonight, might you be willing to start a GoFundMe to award the first journalist who takes up your challenge? It's a real shame that our society now seems to be entirely transactionally based--that's to the dipwad--but there it is.

I bet plenty of readers would contribute to it!

Anyone else agree?

Robert Eckert's avatar

Croesus, legendarily rich king of Lydia and inventor of coinage, asked the Oracle at Delphi if he should attack the Medes, then controlling Iran (Persia was still a Mede vassal state then). The Oracle said that if he did, a great empire would be destroyed, so he did. The oracle neglected to clarify which empire would be destroyed.

Stephen Brady's avatar

I think he will dust off those nukes he is just aching to use…

Leigh Hamilton's avatar

Honestly, I think he's setting up a TACO scenario. If I were to translate this message into what he really means it would be this:

"I've made the most heinous, unconscionable threat possible that makes me look like the scariest, strongest person in the world, so that tomorrow, when I announce that Iran has capitulated, I'll still be the hero."

It will all be a lie of course, and no bombings will stop on either side, but it will get Trump out of having to destroy the nation of Iran.

The alternative is unthinkable.

Joyce's avatar

If he's not worked himself up to having the fun of using nuclear weapons (or rather, worked up to it by Kegseth, Nosferatu, and Three Shirts, as well as assorted Rapturists), I think he'll TACO by claiming that Iran has agreed to his peace terms and so he has to wait.....two weeks.....before killing everyone. And all of his fans in the voter base and Congress and Cabinet will eagerly believe him and fawn over his Big Scariness.

Let's all scream and holler

"Fuck all the way off, you old crone!!"

Claudia Classon's avatar

He is going to drop a bomb on them. The bomb. And who is going to stop him?

michellefromchicago's avatar

I think his own greed might stop him; at least that’s what I will be praying. Nuclear fallout would contaminate the entire Middle East. That would royally screw up the Middle Eastern oil industry, which would royally screw up the economy of the entire world – – and a whole lot of Trump‘s investments. It also would screw up the plans of Trump and Kushner to build all kinds of grandiose real estate developments in the Middle East. So, for once, Trump’s greed might work in our favor.

arne link's avatar

I believe that you are correct. He will not screw up Kushner's investments because it might hurt his one true love - Ivanka. However, he is batshit crazy so who knows what will happen?

Lois Henry's avatar

He doesn’t make connections like that. Cause and effect are not something he understands.

PollyP's avatar

He definitely doesn't understand nuclear fallout. "Nuke the hurricane."

michellefromchicago's avatar

True. But he also is a true greed monster. When he is down to his last brain cell, that cell will be consumed by thoughts of money...

Lois Henry's avatar

Actually, my money is on his last thought being about how his hair looks.

Sue Martin's avatar

My thoughts as well, Lois. And if, by sheer chance, he ever does understand, he won't give a rat's ass. He's going to kill us all...

Mary Greenwald's avatar

Taco Trump will back down with some lie that Iran has agreed to Trump's "plan".

devourerofpancakes's avatar

Trump's mind is gone, Hegseth is too screwed up to listen to his own generals, and the WH is full of Christian nationalists. Will greed save us? I hope so.

Claudia Classon's avatar

He doesn’t care about the rest of the world. I don’t think he even cares about his children. The only thing that might stop him is the possibility of hurting his investments. I sure hope someone is going to make him see that.

Please God 🙏

I just wanted to remind you he wanted to nuke a hurricane in term 1. I live in FL. So much “winning” here. DeSatan, Scott, rumpf. Just delightful.

Mr Mild - BlueVotingBastard💙's avatar

If he drops a nuclear bomb on Iran, Israel is going to find out very quickly which Middle Eastern nation has done the best job of hiding their own nuclear program. Or has gotten one from N. Korea. Or China.

Robert Eckert's avatar

Conventional bombing of power and desalination plants will result in retaliatory strikes in kind against the Gulf states, rendering some of the emirates uninhabitable at the current population levels.

Dana Jae Labrecque's avatar

My thoughts exactly. He’s been itching to drop a nuclear bomb since his first term, fucking demon.

Sharon Hudnall's avatar

Military leadership is the last line of sane defense against Trump by refusing to follow illegal orders. Instead, they're resigning or suffering termination. They should stand as a united front against the U.S. committing war crimes. But no.

Cathy Schmidt's avatar

Perhaps the astronauts will be the only ones left to tell the tale.

Lisa Bieber's avatar

Maybe they're going to live on Leon's secret moon base?

Claudia Classon's avatar

Oh, damn. You may be right. I think I saw that movie, too. Not good.

J Hardy Carroll's avatar

How did this dementor jump from “lol autopen discourse” to “the president is live-posting whether an entire civilization gets to exist tonight” while his favorite drunk war porn host is on Fox doing keg stands on the Book of Revelation?

eff’s right that Trump is a burst trash bag of pathologies, but at this point the trash bag has the nuclear codes, a blood boy, and a direct line to every boozy end-times cosplayer in conservative media, and they’re all egging each other on like it’s WrestleMania instead of the fucking world.

Hegseth’s sweating bourbon and rapture fantasies on camera while Trump pops out of whatever boutique hemoglobin swap he just got to announce that the Iranians “want” to be bombed for their own good, which is exactly the sentence you’d expect from a guy who has never seen another human being as anything but a prop or a hole.

And the Epstein files are not evaporating, like a reminder from the universe that no matter how many flags these people wrap themselves in, the connective tissue of this whole class is trafficking, blackmail, and a shared understanding that other people’s bodies are disposable.

Once you accept that, Trump musing about erasing a civilization and Hegseth’s foursquare crush on Armageddon stop reading as outliers and start looking like the house style.

The worst part is how normal it all feels now: kids at the Egg Roll get conscripted into the autopen-as-herald-of-weakness bit, astronauts can’t get far enough away to escape the Wayne Gretzky word salad, and the press corps still mostly treats this as “color” instead of standing up and asking the only real question left, which is: what the fuck is wrong with you people, and why are we letting you anywhere near sharp objects, much less the end of the world?

The story about the rescue of the pilot does not ring true. The plane crash caused him great injury yet he was found 100 miles from the crash site?

arne link's avatar

Guess he race-walked away from the actual crash site? We've gone full circle back to "people walking around without legs", I guess.

DuduLovesBubu's avatar

He teleported. The coordinates were off. He was hoping for the Waffle House.

You have officially won today!

Bat shit bonkers... and we're all paying the price. Damn it.

I'd make another call to my MAGA Senators, but I figure whats the point...

I was practically screaming at them over the phone on Sunday.

If we live to see tomorrow, nice knowin' you all. 🙄

J Glaspie's avatar

I screamed at them this morning. They still need to be told that they are responsible for this mess.

Suel J's avatar

Been writing, calling ..crickets

Miselle's avatar

Please call anyway!
