"Trump threatens to occupy Iran: "President Trump tells Fox News he spoke with Iranian officials overnight and said, 'You close the strait and you won't have a country.' He went on to tell these officials, 'You won't even make it back to your f**king country ... we'll take over the rest of the country.'"
I have been focusing on the Ukraine story which has improved and is turning in their favor. I wish that we had the MOU of a peace deal for them too.
Iran is Russia's ally and as they win so does Russia. Of course, with Trump's attention being elsewhere and him not bothering and demoralizing Ukraine as he is wont to do with absolutely everyone, they have been able to prevail. I am sure I am not the only one who thinks that loser Trump and his clown cast of peace brokers Kushner and Witkoff are better off not being involved with any deal made for Ukraine. Let us hope that Ukraine knows it too.
All the MOU is, is a Memorandum of Understanding. It's really not worth the paper it's written on. It's for 60 days. What Ukraine needs is a ceasefire.
I read and see the Substack’s Ukraine posts and a few others on the net… from what I read Russia is in trouble, their citizens angered by the loss of lives, and the high costs of living with another bloody war, like we are here Linda. I remain hopeful , Ukraine finally triumphs with their drone technology.
Linda - YES! Because Zelenskyy has a functioning brain, whereas dementodonny and his psychophants have nothing but a bowl of porridgy-grift in their otherwise empty skulls.
Witkoff and Kushner are very poorly qualified to deal in international affairs. Negotiating ending a war of all things. This actually is important.
Sad state when our president is so unreliable and unpredictable that he stays behind. Only to get on his stupid keyboard sending shit threatening the very negotiations the USA's Kushner and Witkoff are sitting in on. Nice.
Meanwhile the Iranian team has psychologists with them and nuclear physicists so that they know how to deal with the behavior of Trump as well as the ignoramuses in front of them, and they know nuclear policy which it does not sound like Kushner and Witkoff do. It is a clown car of representation all the time with Trump. The hardest thing about having Trump as president is realizing that my country is filled with really stupid people who are easily manipulated by bad people.
Weirdly, as someone who lived through the Nixon years, one of the worst things I find about the Trump regime is it makes Nixon look not so evil. Nixon had demons, but he fundamentally respected the foundations of the country. He also did some good things--created the EPA; opened trade with what had been our fearsome enemy, China. He had skills and was educated and used some of those to actual function as a President. He just had Shakespearean flaws.
Trump on the other hand is a gutter reptile. He has anti-Christ flaws.
W was a tool of the machine that gave us Nixon and Reagan. Billionaires who needed a friendly face to stand in front of them while they destroyed the nominal democracy
His flaws are the system’s flaws. Trump is a symptom, not a cause. He was elevated by a complicit media and smugly complicit opposition. He was abetted by a sophisticated intelligence operation that virally spread disinformation and continues to erode any belief in this system as a whole. He has always been a vile, cheap, dumb asshole. A grifter bereft of any human value beyond a vulgar version of charisma. For whatever reason, newspapers would usually sell more copies when they put him in their pages. That continued during his first term, when subscriptions to the Gray Lady and the Washington Post trebled, something that influenced their decisions to back him. He received a billion dollars in free media on top of everything else.
Nixon rose on his dubious merits, and did his time in the purgatory of what John Nance Garner called “a bucked of warm piss,” AKA the vice presidency. He was an intelligent and ruthless opportunist. Had he been given the same setup he would have taken the same advantage. He did not resign because of conscience, he resigned to avoid the shame of impeachment and removal. He’d been caught on tape.
Our system has failed us. Nine justices and the electoral college have been proven to be broken parts of a broken mechanism. The founding fathers were slaveowners who didn’t object to taxation itself, only the fact they weren’t the ones doing the collecting.
I hope the greed, incompetence, and psychopathy (esp. the latter) doesn't undo the planet before it gets them specifically. I am not a professional, but Trump seems very near a psychopathic collapse. And no one around him is willing to confront him. Lousy parasites are just hanging on until the host rots away.
Nixon wanted power, but not necessarily money. And I’d say he wanted the power to realize his particular vision of how things “should be”. He respected (his own version of!) the American way, but he wasn’t a pathological liar (just the regular political kind of liar). He had somewhat normal relations with other people (he didn’t regard all other people solely in terms of how he could use them) and was a decorated WW II veteran. Who was president during the start up of the Vietnam Nam war, and ended the draft.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, together with their allies in the current war, declare upon the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding an immediate and permanent end to the war on all fronts, including Lebanon, and undertake that from now on they will not launch any hostile action against each other, and will refrain from the threat or use of force against each other. The final agreement will confirm the provisions of this Article and the remaining Articles."
Threats are all he has. He's pathetic. He's like a baby, starting a war with Georgia Meloni over ...nothing really, a stupid, babyish comment about her "begging" for a photo. Why even go there, except he has to build up his own fragile ego and imagine everyone is always "begging" him for proximity?
Basically agree with Anastasia P. To me it's just another version of the same old script with him. He doesn't have the smahts or character or anything else it takes to be original or creative enough to produce anything different from the old tired mean ugly record playing over and over in his head. I'm just waiting for circumstances to give home the hook.
What gorgeous tributes, thank you for sharing them with us. I can't imagine how much it must hurt to try to carve out a life after your partner leaves the planet. What a beautiful soul you got to share your life with. ❤️
Let's check in with the Italian PM and verify if Donnie Demento actually spoke to the Iranian officials.
Or, if someone could give us a quick view inside the Iranian Situation Room, we could just see for ourselves if they're rolling on the floor in gales of laughter.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for sharing the most important part of your life with us. The video was very moving and the displayed photos were selected with great care. Such a great loss for you, Katie, Kathy and all of the people who also loved her. It looks like she packed a great deal into the life she lived. Thank you again.
Totally beautiful, I was tearing up over and over. The tributes from daughter Katie and bff Kathy were truly moving. And love all the photos - many of which Jeff has shared with us but several "new" ones too. 💙
Thank you for sharing your Claudia with us. The pictures and tribute give a sense of her as being the things that you have told us about her. Loving to be in nature, and loving her friends and family. A life well lived. I am so glad you have your daughter and granddaughter through which Claudia lives on.
I'm speechless. The beauty of today's column is realizing how many people Claudia touched. She lives on in her daughter and her friends and colleagues. So meaningful. Thank you for sharing.
There are many truly weird local delicacies in Europe. I would place a modest bet on there being poop cheese somewhere. Probably only a whiff of fecal enhancement.
Oh, Jeff, I absolutely loved reading these eulogies—especially the one from your daughter. Your family obviously shares a gift for writing. Everyone should have at least one Claudia in their life. Not only did she give you a lifetime of laughs and joyful memories, but she left you with a beautiful, brilliant daughter. Happy Father’s Day to you, Jeff, and to all of the amazing dads out there.
Such beautiful tributes Jeff. I lost the love of my life about eight years ago now after being together for 37 years, and the memories of our joy keep me going. Sending you light and appreciation.
I'm usually a day behind now due to a schedule change and when I was reading the week in stupid I had a thought that I don't even know if I can even read funny posts about the world anymore. Then we have another all Claudia post and though sad, it gives me faith in life. I had to pause the video at 2 minutes though because the sense of loss was too much. How you've allowed us to know her, and you...I feel like I've lost a family member too. Thank you for sharing this beauty with us.
thanks again for this Jeff. it makes me want to look around and slow down my life a little bit and make sure that I appreciate my wife and my health and the love in my life to the fullest.
Katie wins also with the joke about you hearing about how great you are at your funeral.
What an amazing woman. Thank you for sharing her story this way. Please keep the photos coming as long as you would like. Her spirit shines through in each one and it makes me smile.
I've lived in Italy for 11 years and my politically savvy Italian friends here assure me that Meloni is every bit the anti-imligrant, anti-lbtg, racist and fascist that Trump is ...she just didn't expect him to treat her with the same rudeness and disregard that he treats everyone else.
But Italians are serious about even small acts of courtesy, and deliberate rudeness is "maleducato" = badly educated, and not to be borne.
Right wing nationalists can't seem to understand that dealing with another nationalist does not facilitate much in the way of cooperation between the respective countries, by definition. Even Meloni has to know, along with the other (non-fascist) European leaders, that trump's brand of me-me-me fascism is not beneficial to their nations. His obvious fealty to Putin should make that abundantly clear.
Hi Jeff…these lovely eulogies have me sitting in my kitchen, tears rolling down my cheeks, my morning coffee getting cold on a beautiful , peaceful Wisconsin morning…embracing Katy’s, Kathy’s and your own loving memories of your…and now forever our…Claudia. She will live in all of our hearts now forever, even if, like me, we were never lucky to know her in life,,,thank you all for sharing her with us♥️
in other news, things are apparently going swimmingly with Donny's sketch of a concept of a framework for a peace plan

Today’s post was amazing! Thanks for sharing some of the life and love you had with Claudia!
Yes, thank you, Jeff. Their eulogies brought tears to my eyes, as did your beautiful eulogy.
Bluster, bluster, bluster. It's all he has. Unfortunately, the Iranians — and our adversaries worldwide — know it.
and yet the informed ppl around - do nothing.
naw. they are making money off their insider information.

Edited to correct my grammar for better clarity.

I would only add that FORTUNATELY the Iranians know it. So does everyone else.
I kind of wonder what Nixon would have done had he had a stacked Senate, Congress, and Supreme Court that would not hold him accountable.
He probably would have pulled much the same kind of fascist shit but he would have done it a lot better.
We should be grateful for their greed and incompetence because that will be their undoing
Weirdly, as someone who lived through the Nixon years, one of the worst things I find about the Trump regime is it makes Nixon look not so evil. Trump on the other hand is a gutter reptile. He has anti-Christ flaws.
He even makes W look "not so evil," although I wish W had discovered his passion for painting earlier, like the early 90s, before he entered politics.
W was a tool of the machine that gave us Nixon and Reagan. Billionaires who needed a friendly face to stand in front of them while they destroyed the nominal democracy

I’d forgotten John Nance Garner’s famous quote! Today of course, that can be much less true.
Gutter reptile libel!! Agree completely on the anti-Christ flaws.
Professionals agree with you...
No kidding! Great assessment.
Idk we had WAY more shame & a sense of propriety back then… and our brains weren’t social media 24/7 internet / phone mush yet….
Oops forgot “attention-span challenged”… (and Nixon had Woodward / Bernstein… we have - Jesse Watters / Hannity / Rogan?!
Good grief
It would've been very very different because Nixon was smart, experienced and knowledgable about government, unlike Trump, but it's hard to say how.
He would have cemented himself and his cronies into power for decades, likely.
Nixon wanted power, but not necessarily money. And I’d say he wanted the power to realize his particular vision of how things “should be”. That didn't take long--threats are a violation of the MOU. Grape jerb Donald 2.0!

If our life’s worth is measured by how much we are loved then your wife was worth a fortune. Thank you for sharing her, Jeff.

I am not crying. Y'all the ones that crying.
Thanks for sharing Jeff. And thank Kathy and Katie for us too.
Yeah, I'm not crying... just reflecting all of you alls tears.

I’m crying
Me neither!
I'm speechless. The beauty of today's column is realizing how many people Claudia touched. She lives on in her daughter and her friends and colleagues. So meaningful. Thank you for sharing.
And .... THANK YOU ITALY. 👏👏👏👏
And what comes out of assholes? 💩💩💩💩💩🪠🪠🪠🪠🪠🪠
(Only in Italy there's probably some specialty cheese that involves goat shit and costs $15 a pound.)
I love Italy with Milan and Sicily being the exceptions Kathleen, but don’t believe I’ve ever run across any cacare blended cheese there!
There are many truly weird local delicacies in Europe. I would place a modest bet on there being poop cheese somewhere. Probably only a whiff of fecal enhancement.

Katie wins also with the joke about you hearing about how great you are at your funeral.
He raves and he rants
While crapping his pants
He makes general threats
"I'll bomb you with jets!"
His concept of a plan
For peace with Iran?
He doesn't know what he seeks
Wait another two weeks
He will never confess
That this whole stupid mess
Was so ill conceived
With nothing achieved
But to forestall a jury
Operation Epstein Fury
I absolutely loved this poem!!!! Great wording and truest thoughts.
In two fucking weeks he will have no recollection he ever threatened this.
And he assumes we have such short attention spans as he does. Guess again asshole!
👏👏👏
What an amazing woman. Thank you for sharing her story this way. Please keep the photos coming as long as you would like. Her spirit shines through in each one and it makes me smile.
