they’re going to make a lot of noise and hold a lot of show trials. but what can they actually do? let’s take a look.

can they cut spending for the current year?

they can yell all they want but fuck no they can’t. that’s not the way it works. that money has already been voted on and budgeted. they can scream about the IRS and the FBI and whatever all they want but they can’t do shit.

can they pass all kinds of crazy legislation?

they can and they will. but know that the Senate is where all that crazy legislation will go to die

can they stop the January 6 investigation?

no. the House January 6 Committee finished its work on January 1st and released most of their documents to the DOJ and to the public. cat’s already out of the bag. and the current Congress can’t defund the DOJ for the current fiscal year.

can they send Hunter Biden and Dr. Fauci to prison?

no, but they are going to hold multiple investigations and make Fauci’s and Biden’s lives miserable and cause them to spend six-figure sums on lawyers. and they are going to make criminal referrals based on trumped-up and imaginary charges. but once those referrals land in the hands of the DOJ, they’ll go nowhere. it’s just going to be a huge waste of everyone’s time.

note: Hunter Biden is currently under investigation by the DOJ and has been since 2019. it’s likely that he could face indictment on tax evasion charges. the wingnuts will have a field day over that, but any such indictment would not be the product of any congressional investigation.

can they force the FBI to turn over documents?

I hope they try. I’d love to watch the FBI tell shouty half-dressed degenerate Jim Jordan to go fuck himself.

can they impeach Joe Biden?

oh fuck yes they can and you know they’re going to. probably more than once. for what? it doesn’t matter for what. they’re just out for spite and revenge. but remember, Joe Biden isn’t going anywhere. he’ll never be convicted in the Democratic-controlled Senate.

can they shut down the government?

absolutely they can and they almost certainly will. the current fiscal year expires on October 1, 2023. if there’s no budget in place by then, the government shuts down. this is where the fuckery comes in. this is where House Republicans can demand cuts to Social Security and Medicare. it’s anyone’s guess how successful they’ll be. but keep this in mind: government shutdowns are very unpopular with voters and every time Republicans have shut the government down, it’s blown right the fuck up in their big stupid faces.

can they fuck with the debt ceiling and default on debts?

technically, they can’t, because Sec 4 of 14th Amendment forbids any default on the nation’s debts. but they can shout and threaten and spook the banks, who will respond by spiking interest rates.

can they fight inflation and lower the deficit?
