Under the Constitution, the Office of the President has NO role on elections: none , zero, zip, nada, no way. And in.the instant case, his actions were those of a disappointed office-seeker, NOT anything official

.there were NO OBJECTIONS TO OTHER RACE RESULTS.

Ya wanna see chaos? SCROTUSjust destabilized our democracy.

If I recall correctly, either Chutkan or the DC Circuit (or maybe both) already said that deciding/overturning the election results is not within a president's official duties. So they should be able, since they aren't Cannon, to take one week, reprise the earlier ruling, and say, "Let's proceed. I'm open on August 5."

Expand full comment
Dee Whitman's avatar

Judge Chutkan had already told scump's team that it could have 81 days to prepare its case; she can't now deny them that time. So wven if she / the DC Circuit say tomorrow that the trial is on, it couldn't begin before 9-21-24, which is a Saturday, so 9-23-24 -- and that start date might be prohibited bc it's so close to the election.

Everything about this sucks. Every person who has ever voted for a GOP sucks and is culpable, bc even earlier GOP actions, from 1981 on, are what got us here. I am enraged and depressed.

There are no rules that say a trial cannot proceed if it’s too close to an election-that’s some kind of DOJ way of doing things because, you know, it wouldn’t be fair-right? In light of the way Donny’s lawyers & the Supreme Court kept pushing this trial out, I think we should be having the trial on Election Day if we have to. And indict the rest of the scum that helped Donny or at least have a grand jury hear the case against them.

Expand full comment
Dee Whitman's avatar

I agree with you, and I appreciate your clarification ("prohibited" was a poor choice on my part). Fwiw, I think that no Dem judge, or probably Dem judge, or appointed-by-Dem judge will hold one of scump's trials so close to the election -- in part bc rational people understand that it could be prejudicial and rational ppl like to play fair; in part bc the howls of outrage from everyone of the right would be deafening (and the Gun-Toters would do who knows what); and bc scump's lawyers would object all the way to the SC, whose corrupt majority would rule in his favor.

And as you note, ALL of this is happening bc of scump's longstanding love affair with delay tactics. I think he should have to pay the price for that -- but will he?

Oh, such grimness. Time to start drinking (it's 5pm somewhere). Wishing you well.

There is a fear factor for any Democrats or Never Trumpers, even more than the rest of us, who have been very public in bashing him. He just posted something about Cheney being a traitor. So I do understand. But, fear causes the autonomous response of fight or flight. They are all in the flight mode right now but they have to realize that there is no where to run. We have to fight!

It’s understandable and not unreasonable. Though I’m not panicking, I am concerned. That being said, calling people “spineless” because they’re concerned is just rude. Just sayin.

That "spineless Democrats" reference was referring to elected officials. And it also came from a historian who predicted 9 of the last 10 elections. That's up for debate since the one he got wrong was 2000. I think that the voters are smarter than elected officials and don't realize it's more difficult to win over voters with a new candidate than show that he had a bad night because he was exhausted and sick and his aides spent 6 days bombarding him with statistics and talking points, preparing for a "rational" Trump. And that doesn't exist. Democrats want perfect candidates, Republicans settle for much less. They should be listening to people, not polls from anonymous strangers that we really don't know about.

I bet the #SupremeSix wipe their asses with our Constitution when they go to the bathroom and laugh at us the whole time. In the past 2-3 days of SCOTUS decisions, they’ve destroyed us - our govt, our climate, our regulations mandating corps not pollute our air and water on their way to raping our land and fucking most of us out out of everything. I hate them. Hatred isn’t enough for what they’ve done…

It is absolutely clear that His Imperial Asswholeness will not go on trial for Jan 6 before the Nov election.

Now, Judge Chutkan has to figure out which of Trump's acts were official, and after that he has the right to appeal her decision before trial. Since the supremes are not getting back together until October 10, it's all off until it really doesn't matter anymore.

aaaaggggghhhhhhh!!!!!

Judge Chutkan can rule these charges unofficial and quickly move on to the trial. Then, let the appeals begin, but incarcerated while on appeal. I can't see any way this is not going to blow up into riots one side or the other, might as well toss the nugger into jail ASAP.

Trump is gleefully claiming they declared him immune but like always the moron knows nothing about a damn thing and he doesn’t know there are receipts. Events require permits through the National Park Service and the Capitol Police in order to provide safety and security. The permit was in the name of One Nation Under God, not the White House. Therefore, NOT an official presidential event. And since the permit only was for The Ellipse, his telling the group to march to the Capitol was a violation to begin with and his doing. He is not immune.

Our SCOTUS is the worst, most corrupt and unhinged court we've ever seen. It's appalling. It's infuriating and scary. On another subject, WHY isn't the lame-stream media showing clips of TRump babbling on about stupid shit?!! I suspect it's because they want Trump elected so they'll have a constant news source for 4 years. Gawd help us out if he gets elected. I'm still voting for President Biden, because he's done a great job in the last three plus years and I can't even begin to imagine what kind of hellscape we will be living in if TRump ever sees the Oval Office again. Let's do this! PLEASE!!

Kamala: vice.president@whitehouse.gov
