fun fact: I was going to include this bluesky post in the Tom Homan section of today's write-up, but then decided that the 'can't unsee it' factor was off the charts.

You know the only reason why he picked Homan like all the rest of the creeps, is because he looks the part, and is in fact a criminal thug.

That matters to the orange occupier of the PEOPLE'S HOUSE! He always picks the most despicable ones so as to deflect from his own culpability.

He stated that he likes to hang out with losers. He likes that low bar they set, and yet he manages to find a depth below it.

again, there's so much great No Kings content out there, I could probably spend the whole week writing about it

michellefromchicago's avatar

That would encourage all the rest of us and you, as well. Win-win!!

devourerofpancakes's avatar

My local newspaper decided to put a big picture on the front page of two people of color shouting to illustrate their No Kings coverage. Considering the local demographics that was A Choice. They had a few other smaller pictures inside and an article about the protest in MN but not much else about it.

DrBDH's avatar

Meanwhile, the NYT poo-pooed the protests for being too white.

Nancy Braus's avatar

So many people of color, especially immigrants, are rightfully fearful of being part of any protest. Creeps working for DHS can film these events and use facial recognition. If there is trouble, these will be the people who catch the blame. We are standing out for our immigrant, refugee, and African American sisters and brothers.

devourerofpancakes's avatar

NYTimes will never embrace protests.

Mary Greenwald's avatar

Chicago Tribune buried coverage inside- just like last time. Bunch of Trump Republicans.

devourerofpancakes's avatar

Grrrr. Reminds me of the anti-Iraq war protests (I am old). We predicted how it would go more or less perfectly, but we were dismissed or ignored by the war cheering MSM.

William Burke's avatar

Analogous to the army putting ads on Reddit featuring African-American men as cooks.

PTW's avatar

My local conservative-leaning rag buried any coverage to the 8th page. The photo montage they featured were mostly of people in costumes (T. rexes, witches, frogs, unicorns, hippos, pigs)---I assume to mock rally-goers are unserious goofballs.

Included in the "coverage" of Saturday was an equally long article about TWO ARRESTS (the horror!). It was portrayed as a part of the main rally, but turns out the arrests were two people causing a bit of trouble at the gate of ICE detention facility in town. Not part of the protest festivities at the park, about seven miles away.

That would be awesome!

How in the fuck is Trump allowed to take a wrecking ball to the People’s House without a vote from Congress? Our HOA won’t even let us change the color of our door without approval. This is beyond insane!

Dana Jae Labrecque's avatar

Stephanie, he’s taking a wrecking ball to the entire United States and the globe. No one is stopping him. People are trying in the courts and yes, they’re winning lots of cases, but there is no enforcement mechanism when he owns all the law-enforcement. Nowhere is safe from this wretched evil.

Don’t let it overcome us. Live our best lives and resist at the same time.

Stephanie Lajeskie's avatar

I just can’t believe that the dumbest people on the planet were able to pull this off. Maybe they’re not as stupid as we thought. Just evil.

Lucius's avatar

Hanlon's razor (don't attribute to malice what can more easily explained by stupidity) doesn't apply anymore.

I think the better version would be Trump's razor: "don't attribute to stupidity what can be more easily explained by malice."

devourerofpancakes's avatar

Stupidity, greed, and cowardice are quite the triumvirate.

Rick Walters's avatar

I often think of Verbal Kint’s explanation of Keyser Söze’s success in The Usual Suspects: “He realized you didn’t need guns, or men, or money… you just needed the will to do what the other guy wouldn’t,” (or pretty close to that.) I don’t think most of the rich and powerful are the smartest people in any room they find themselves. Instead, they know the cheat code: if you act without scruples or humanity or a thought to the consequences of your actions, nothing will slow you down.

Ole Anderson's avatar

So true and so sad, Rick

Well said

Stephen Brady's avatar

It is going to take a whole raft of Constitutional Amendments to fix this. We need to move to something approaching a parliamentary system so a vote of no confidence can expel and extirpate this kind of travesty.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Yes yes, we get that. But on a more specific level, why is he allowed to tear down buildings and destroy historical infrastructure? It's got to be illegal.

rlritt's avatar

And he doesn't even own it. I hope when he's out of there they charge him damages to the property.

SPW's avatar

My question for the MAGA fools still out there is how much money do they think George Soros has? Surely after all the many times he’s supposed to have paid the many millions of us who protest, even he would eventually run out of money. After all , Soros isn’t fElon. Come to think about it, all this would mean MAGA nuts would have to think and that they cannot do.

Maui Wahine's avatar

Your last sentence explains it all.

rlritt's avatar

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

I hope they also bulldoze everything — and send him the bill.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Besides undoing the serious damage to our laws and our economy, the next president has to prioritize restoring the White House. EVERYTHING that Trump did should be eradicated, and it should be done publicly.

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Publicly and with great ceremony — even with a major rally, perhaps!

rlritt's avatar

He should to pay for any damages he caused.

My MAGA brother told me that there is no war and the prices are definitely going to go down. What kind of idiot believes this and why oh why am I related to this moron?

Anastasia Pantsios's avatar

Exactly my question. It seems to me what he is doing to property that doesn't belong to him is wildly illegal.

Nancy Braus's avatar

Congress is spineless- with 25 or 30 exceptions, including about 3 Republicans- thank you Thomas Massie- there is no will to defy the ever more insane and dictatorial whims of the shit-in-chief. Every Republican must be voted out of office. We have to start over with political parties.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

Indeed. There are conservatives with whom I might disagree on policy but can respect (e.g., Adam Kinzinger). But there is no longer a Republican Party. It's just the MAGAt cult of personality.

rlritt's avatar

You are 100% right. Any of the reasonable Republicans in office have shown how easy it is for them to forget about the laws and the people and swear loyalty to Trump.

Daniel M Kimmel's avatar

That's why I take those polls showing Trump's overwhelming approval rating among *Republicans* with a grain of salt. The ones who had principles have mostly left the party.

Befuddled diaper-filling Norma Desmond stares at this toy ballroom like a kid who’s smashed his train set and killed his sister

It's the scene from Downfall where Hitler mumbles to Speer about great it is that the Red Army is going to knock down all the buildings for him so he can build Germania JUST LIKE THE MODEL. Meanwhile, the bunker shakes from the weight of Soviet bombs and children fire rockets at Soviet tanks.

Hitler started with nothing. Trump inherited everything. Any so-called success he has was entirely due to others. Hitler's twisted vision attracted the greatest military and legal minds of the century, and he came within a hair of conquering the world in five years. Had he not declared war on the US and Russia at the same time, he very well might have done it.

Donald Trump is the same pathetic archetype, but much dumber, tackier, and incompetent. Every so-called success was either handed to him, bailed out for him, or quietly finished by other people while he ran to the cameras and slapped his name on it like a gold‑plated parasite. The people he attracts into his sphere are even dumber and less competent than he is, and far more cruel and venal.

Inherited money, inherited connections, inherited scaffolding of institutions which he strip-mines for attention and graft. He takes credit for projects and jobs that were planned and funded years before he waddled onto the scene, and still brags like he laid every brick himself. The visionary.

But now his dementia is so bad that every time he opens his mouth it's Brad Pitt yelling WHAT'S IN THE BOX, knowing that it's bad and dead and worse than he imagines.

He has bred an endless swarm of knockoff ghouls, grifters, and would‑be little Trumps orbiting him, each somehow more vicious, more incompetent, and more shameless than the last, all clawing for a slice of the wreckage while they torch whatever still works and then congratulate themselves for “making it great.”

Hitler had the grace to off himself in his bunker. Yeah, he debated sacrificing everyone in Germany to prove his greatness (as did Hirohito and, later, Fidel Castro) but in the end he shot himself (after poisoning and shooting Blondi, which Kristi would approve),

Trump waddled into a decent economy and an unstable world and made everything so much worse so fast it showed how fucked the system is. We see it now beyond a doubt. Fixing it will be a lifetime of work for everyone. I choose to believe it's possible.

Trump will die on a global holiday because THE DAY HE DIES WILL BE CELEBRATED AROUND THE WORLD. What a party.

And think of the ratings for the war crimes trials!

Linda McCaughey's avatar

My favorite protest sign:

"Can we just fast-forward to the part where he shoots himself in the bunker?"

Lin Talbot-Koehl's avatar

I agree w/ ALL of that....

EXCEPT the depiction of Hirohito. My husband's uncle was head of the American Guard at the Emperor's Palace after the war (growing up in Seattle w/ Nisai children as his friends, he was VERY fluent in Japanese). Hirohito & Skip became friends for life.

Hirohito was NOT behind the war. The Japanese MILITARY planned it all, & Hirohito & his family were INSTRUCTED to either go along w/ them, or DIE. Being a mild-mannered, bookish family man underneath all the trappings....what choice did he have? He was never comfortable w/ the trappings of Royalty....he'd have much rather been a biologist, out in the wilderness studying plants.

The Japanese military used to say that, once Japan defeated the US, Hirohito was going to ride his beloved white horse down Pennsylvania Ave, & move into the WH. My husband's cousin Richard (who was born & grew up in the Palace), has a picture of himself atop Hirohito's regally kitted-out white horse, because Hirohito thought it would be a nice memory for him to have when he grew up.

Hirohito was the one who ended the tradition of the Emperor being a god that his subjects weren't even allowed to LOOK at. After the war, he made a point of touring the country, speaking to the people, wearing a simple dark suit, bowing & tipping his hat to THEM. (Lots of videos online.)

Hirohito was a VICTIM of the Japanese military.
